  • Mid 2010 mac book pro crashing too many times!!!

HELP! I'm basically fed up with my mac book pro crashing so many times in a day. I'm not doing anything tedious, just basic web surfing and music and some microsoft word/excel. I've read that someone recommended to run EtreCheck and paste the result here so anyone that knows how to read them can help me figure out what's happening!
    Problem description:
My Mac book pro have been crashing lately. I’ve max out my RAM to 8gb. And the frequency seems to increased to few times in a day. I’ve uninstalled a software that I suspect to be causing the problem but it didn’t help.

    Hello Terrychelle,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
If the issue is to do with Safari, then you may need to reset it.

My Mac book pro won't charge. But the connector is plugged in and shows that its charging but it says it has 0% but if I unplug it it will shut off. It's been like this all day but I didn't notice till I turned it on.

It's either a power adapter issue (not likely) or (more likely) a power supply problem on your MBP. Take the machine into your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them diagnose the problem.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

My Mac book pro keeps saying "connection time out occurred" I have a 2011 pro with all the latest updates. It keeps doing it and it really annoys me! Please help!

Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried, until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
Restart the router. Many problems are solved that way.
    Step 2
Change the name of the wireless network, if applicable, to eliminate any characters other than letters and digits. You do that on your router via its web page, if it's not an Apple device, or via AirPort Utility, if it is an Apple device.
    Step 3
    From the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Network
Click the Assist me button and select Assistant. Follow the prompts.
    Step 4
    Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Enter the name of your wireless network in the search box. You should have one or more "AirPort network password" items with that name. Make a note of the name and password, then delete all the items. Quit Keychain Access. Turn Wi-Fi off and then back on. Reconnect to the network.
    Step 5
You may need to change other settings on the router. See the guidelines linked below:
Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    Potential sources of interference
    Step 6
Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.

  • How long should the Mac Book pro hold its charge???

How long should the Mac Book pro hold a  battery charge??

For a single use or how long will the battery last until it needs to be replaced?  For single use, it depends on what you are doing when using you mac.  I find that when using mine I get about 6-6 1/2 hours just using it to browse the internet before I need to recharge it.  If it is one of the newer Macbook Pros that claim to have a 7 hour battery life, It can last up to 5 years.  See this article on notebook batteries to get the most out of your battery: http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html.  Hope this helps

  • Mac Book Pro Service Battery Options

    Hi, I have a Mac Book Pro 5,5 mid 2009 13'.
The battery status shows up as "service battery". Can anyone tell me what are my options and also if I don't do anything, what are the consequences.
    Here is my battery's info.
    Thanks,
    Macs for the Win.

    Hi Macs for the Win,
If you are seeing a "Service Battery" status on your MacBook Pro, you may find the information outlined in the following article helpful:
Service Battery: The battery isn’t functioning normally, and you may or may not notice a change in its behavior or the amount of charge it holds. Take your computer in for service. You can continue to use your battery before it’s checked without harming your computer.

  • Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro (K920) battery charging time

    Hello everyone,
I wonder, if anyone could help me, please.
I'm experiencing an interesting issue related to battery charging procedure of brand-new Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro (K920).
The thing is, the first two battery charging procedures took about let say 2 hours 40 minutes both.
But the third battery charging procedure took about 3 hours and 10 minutes exactly!, which I consider to be rather strange, mostly because of web reviews of this smartphone, where 2 hours and 30 minutes typical charging time is described.
I understand the fact that brand-new battery has to be initially "formatted" and it's capacity is therefore gradually increasing after few battery charging attempts.
Needles to say, after that third battery charging procedure, the battery life has been also significantly improved. I use genuine Lenovo charger which comes with the phone in the box. The only thing, which I changed since first two battery charging procedures, was turning ON "Core efficiency" in the Lenovo Battery Manager.
Could it be the reason of such extended battery charging time or is it perfectly normal bacause of gradually improving capacity for brand-new battery? Could it be defective battery? Has anyone of the owners the same experience or what is yours typical battery charging time using in-box charger?
Thanks in advance for any advice, suggestion, explanation.
    Martin

  • Mac book pro is not charging fully. any USB i use is disengaged by the computer as 'it uses to much power'. Can anyone help me please

My Mac book Pro seems to have a power problem. I have used a telstra prepaid USB for 18 months as broadband. It has been great.
    Yesterday, I downloaded Mozilla Firefox.
Sometimes later, I got a message that the USB ( telstra broadband toogle) had been disabled because it was drawing too much power from the computer and could cause damage.
I trashed Mozilla to see if that would fix the problem - it didn't.
I tried a second USB and got the same message.
I notice that the power % to my computer is slowly dimishing, even though I have the computer plugged in.
Looks like I have a reasonable problem.
Can anyone tell me how to sort out the problem please?

  • Mac book pro retina battery

There has been talk about the MacBook pro retinas battery being glued on, and the replacement costing more. I also read somewhere that if I want to replace it, then apple will have to replace the entire logic board or something? My question is that if my MacBook pro retinas battery is ex
Experiencing problems, and if it is still within the one year warranty time, then if I bring the notebook in to replace the battery, will apple charge me, or no?

If MBP is still in warranty Apple will not charge for the replacement
Additional 2 year AppleCare Extended Warranty is a must for the sake of peace of mind.
    Best.

  • Mac Book Pro Retina Battery Issue

I bought the new MBPR just over a month ago and have since found that the battery doesn't last all that well. This is especially so when running a few things at once - most of which are very low CPU usage ie excel, mail, safari. My battery time remaining seems to jump up and down from 6:30 remaining down to about 3:00 at the jump of a hat and it's getting annoying as I've found I take my power cable everywhere with me and half the point of getting a laptop is to have the function of several hours os usability no worries running off the battery. Web browsing only, prolongs battery significantly but as soon as I start to do something/anything else it dimishes badly.
Would updating to Mountain Lion help this or is it just a feable excuse to prolong real "support" help?
What does reseting the SMC actually do, is this worth doing and will I loose data? I've done the sleep, restart and shutdown sequence but didn't seem to acheive a great deal.
I run bluetooth for my mouse and wifi for internet.
I've recently taken to playing Diablo 3 and this absolutely destroys my battery life and it literally lasts for under an hour on the battery if I'm playing this - very very frustrating. And if I play any music whilst on battery it drops very very quickly also.
At times the metal above the keyboard and underneath at the same point can get very hot to the point it can become extremely uncomfortable to sit the laptop in my lap.
Having just posted the above my time left went from 6:30hrs down to 3:45hrs and is now slowly climbing back up as I type.... posting the above seems a bit over the top for draining battery life, anyone agree??
I run currently with 50% brightness and about the same on keyboard brightness and have just turned off auto brightness as read that this can help - though annoying that I have to turn off this function and would like ot run with it on as I enjoy it's feature.
Any help would be appreciated - helps hints or tips - I'd love to be able to play Diablo 3 for longer off the battery as an hour doesn't really sit well with me coming from the latest and greatest Mac.
    Thanks!

You should also ask this in the MacBook Pro forum. This is the forum for the white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

  • Mac Book Pro 17" battery

Anyone else experiencing a bulging battery? Yup, the thing is about to explode... it's coming apart. I bought my first generation MacBook Pro 17" just over a year ago. About 2 months ago the optical drive stopped working. So I took it to an independent computer service man, as Apple wouldn't look at it as my warranty had expired. He discovered that the drive was warped......Last week, my track pad became stiff and wouldn't function properly. When I took out the battery to have a look.... The battery has a huge bulge in it and it's starting to come apart from the seems. Basically, the battery has warped the entire casing of the computer. Again Apple... when you spend $3500 you expect quality and service! So my next move is simple. Either Apple sorts all this out or I'm heading down to the biggest Apple stores nearest me and will spend a good part of the day showing potential customers my battery. Beware potential customers!

This gets even better! So Apple are willing to replace my battery free of charge, no problems. Of course they will... cause it's bloody obvious and doesn't look good at all for them. Imagine if potential customers saw this battery!
The optical drive... well that's another issue of course. Not as obvious and hidden inside the machine and it's malfunction could be blamed on anything of course...
I don't know if I mentioned it in my first post, but I had an independent service guy look at my optical drive weeks ago, whom found that it stopped working because it was warped. But because this guy isn't an 'Authorized' Apple service man, they won't take his word for it and replace the drive. So I take it to my Authorized Apple service guy, whom without even opening the casing says there is no way the bulging battery, excessive heat and warped casing has anything to do with the defective optical drive. He says it could be anything. He refuses to open the casing to have a look as it's apparently a long tidious task, that if it's not covered by Apple, it will cost him in labor time. He then also says, he's looked at thousands of these computers and doesn't need to open it to know for certain. Hmmmm, the man must have x-ray vision. Sounds more like...save Apple on paying out and God knows what he gets in return....These Apple guys are way too chummy for my liking. Something that's always sent a red flag up for me. But anyway....little does he know, I watched the independent service guy whip it out in 5 minutes. A very easy straight forward task.
So I get home and find that the authorized guy has told Apple his diagnosis without even looking at it, that they won't replace it. So I call Apple's customer service yet again and simply ask whom they'd trust... the guy who looks under the hood or the guy that doesn't???? They say they just take the word of the authorized guy.... LOL. What a bunch of idiots... But at least I have the option of a second opinion, from another authorized service guy. Problem is... as far as I know he's the only guy local to me. So time traveling and quite a bit of money will be spent on getting this looked at again. At the moment Apple have been trying to call the local service guy to me, to see if he'll look 'under the hood' at least....
Question is... do I trust a guy who's diagnosis comes from looking at the computer from the outside only? Authorized or not... Ahhh, no. My confidence is blown there.
The guy is an idiot, little does he know the computer was purchased through the University here, who holds a large account with this computer store, where the authorized guy works out of... Not a good move really. Specially over a drive that costs $179 and $40 to fit. Although, Apple 'authorized' service charge $500 for the exact same drive and process.
Again, beware of these guys, they pretend to care but there is a lot more going on then the 'I'm on your side, wanting to help saga's!!!
    To be continued...
