Mac Book Pro 17" (Early 2008) totally Death

Dear MacBook pro community,
I have a MacBook pro 17" Early 2008 and wihout any warning the machine turned to blank screen and has no video or startup diagnostic was able to run....I have trying all suggestions to have at least a diagnostic but nothing worked... :-(  it looks like the board failed... Do you know anithing about it??
Thanks for your comments!
Best Regards,
Nelson

Not seen anyting like it no.
You should be able to extract the hard drive, using a 00 phillips micro screwdriver (magnetic preferred) a plastic compartmentalized container for all the screws to go back in the same order.
Then hook it up to a IDE/SATA to USB powered external adpater and use another Mac or PC (with MacDrive installed) to access your files.
Take the machine in to Apple if your under AppleCare, it likely won't be coming back.

I upgraded to a 250GB Samsung SSD 840 EVO drive, install was fine using IOS 10.6.8 but using Logic Express PinWheel of death
would appear loading tunes, taking ages to load with 16GB RAM? and loading tracks from a Firewire Drive which uses less processor.
I goto Samsung and get the latest Firmware and create an image and burn it to CD and run it from a Command line. The Pin Wheel continues,
I upgrade to Maverick in an attempt Apple would know about Samsung's top of the range SSD drives? perhaps not. I have even more issues since the upgrade,
Itunes unresponsive, missing Apps like Ableton Live 8, more loading Pin Wheel issues.

The router might be bad or incompatible, but let's be optimistic.
On System Preferences, go to Network/Advanced/PPP. Only two items should be checked: Connect Automatically When Needed and Disconnect when switching user accounts. Uncheck everything else. Now, click Okay on the end of the page. The next time you're online, you shouldn't be disconnected.
If you still get disconnected like before, we might be dealing with a router issue - which can get rather complicated.

I need a link to buy online battery for Mac Book Pro 15" late 2008. Can't find this battery in the Apple Store...Battery: Model No. A1281 10.8 V 50 Wh.

The only place that you can get an Apple battery is from Apple.  All of the counterfeiter's will claim that they have an OEM battery for the simple reason so that they can fool you in purchasing from them.
At least from OWC you know exactly what you will be purchasing and they have a one year warranty.  I have purchased two from them, one for my 2006 MBP and one for my 2010 MBP.
    Ciao.

  • Does the Mac Book Pro 17" (early 2011) come with a restart CD?

Does the Mac Book Pro 17" Osx lion (early 2011) come with a start up CD. Trying to install Windows 7 and it ask to install the CD that came with the Mac Book Pro, but my box did not come with a CD?
    Thank you in advance.

Actually the Late 2011's came with the horrible OS X Lion 10.7 and a ability to install OS X on a blank drive by holding the command option and r keys down on a wired Ethernet/Internet connection. (Internet Recovery)
The command r held at boot is for Recovery HD, which is on a partition on the boot drive, which yours is obviously blank.
Once you get Lion on it, and get to AppStore, you can upgrade to worst OS X Mountian Lion 10.8 from there or redownload it by loggin in with your AppleID.
There is a way to shoehorn OS X 10.6 onto that machine (fastest and runs older PPC software) if your interested.

Anybody there can help me urgently .?....I have tried repeatedly to switch off and then switch on the power button , but to no avail .... I really don't know what is going on ? So far , it never give this type of problem.
Thanks for anybody who can help me in this .

    1. Your MacBook Pro does not run iOS 6 system. iOS is for iPhone, iPad devices. From the Finder menu select the Apple>About This Mac should give you the operating system you are running. So now what happens when you push the power button?

You'll only be abe to repair permissions on the partition where your operating system is installed. For instance the disk on which I have Lion installed is name MacJoseph so that is the only disk I can repair permission on unless I boot from an install DVD. To do a clean install see these instructions. It's not difficult at all. This article may explain more about a clean install. To re-download the Lion installer open your App store application, at the top of the App store where it say's 'Purchased' hold down the option key while clicking on 'purchased.' This will open your purchases and allow you to download Lion. When the installer finishes downloading quit the installer and it will be in your applications folder. Hope this helps.

  • Mac Book Pro with Yosemite run clearly slower than Mavericks

    HI
I come from other thread about problems whit wifi connection with Yosemite. The great Linc David solved the problem and that has meant thoroughly clean the Mac
I have a Mac Book Pro 13", early 2011 (!only four years¡) with 8 GB of RAM (the maximum), 2,7 GHz Intel Core i7 processor and whit Yosemite everything it´s significantly slower that with Mavericks: open a word, do a screening...even when typing fast some first characters don´t appear.
My conclusion it´s clear the max OS that you can install in one Mac Book Pro 13", early 2011,(like me) it´s Maverick. Yosemite clearly slows the mac.
If someone can convince me otherwise I would be very grateful, because I did not backup before installing the Yosemite. And i don´t know how go back. Here you have the Entrecheck report:
    Thanks in advance

In fact many Mac forums talk about change the hard disk mechanical to other of solid state as solution for MacBook Pro.

  • Weird startup with Mac Book Pro

Have had a new Mac Book Pro since March, 2008. Worked fine until this evening. When I started it up, it showed the icon of a hard drive and nothing else for a bit. I clicked and it continued with the installation. I don't recall having seen that before on installation. I have OS 10.5.4, 2.4 GHz and keep other software updates current (nothing other than a word processor is extra than what came on the machine). That concerned me so I ran disk utilities - it took forever to even begin to go through the procedure. Mail also seemed to get hung up and I wasn't even able to force quit. Eventually, it seemed to "catch up" and mail worked fine. This concerns me - I couldn't find a similar problem
Thanks for any suggestions you can offer.
    Pat

Do you mean you had run an update and it restarted to finish installing the update? Or do you mean that it didn't want to boot up until you selected the drive? If the latter, it could be that it simply lost the startup drive preference. Go to System Preferences->Startup Disk and make sure your regular boot drive is selected.
And yes, running repair permissions takes a LONG time to check the database until it finally starts actually doing the repairs, especially compared to the way things worked in Tiger. As long as it actually finished you should be fine.

i just need this to print with my hp printer the mac book pro is early 2011 the hp was printing with win 7 sp1    professional   it woked great which toshiba 505 870 edition any ideas thanks not all that savy with mac book pro set up with the tobisha just plugged the printer in and it worked mac is a different beast.thanks for any help.

    Welcome to the forums @ogdad22342
I read through your post, and if I understand correctly, you cannot print to your Officejet 8600 Plus, from your Mac running Mavericks. If this is the issue you are experiencing, I have a few steps in mind that should help.
First things first. Make sure you can successfully make copies from the front of the printer. This tests the hardware to make sure the printer is in good working order before any software troubleshooting.
    Follow these steps in order:
Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system
    Repair disk permissions
    Restart the Mac
Click this link and download and install the Full Driver here: HP Officejet Pro 8600 series Full Feature Software and Drivers
In addition, download this driver: HP Printer Drivers v3.0 for OS X
I hope this helps, let me know what happens

I recently reformatted my early 2008 mac book pro and every thing went great with the new installation but, I noticed that keychain is not asking me to store passwords or auto filling them either. Is there a setting that I am missing.

This same scenario was repeating last 2 day, always while the laptop was off/in-sleep.
Now no the 3th day, I noticed the battery is drain out. Now it is fully recharged, but the Laptop want to power on.
After powering on, the Led indicator is glowing like (half-intensity) and noting happens. The screen is blank.
Can someone advise me, what to do?
    Some notes:
    ================
-The device is MAC Book Pro early 2008
-The battery is New, used for about 3 weeks, without problems
-I tried and alternative (old, original) battery, but it is the same. Which makes me think the problem isn`t in battery.
-It happened right after the Yosemite update.
-While sleep it was very hot
    -LED indicator behaves strange
Thank you for any advice or tip.

Sorry for the spelling I am dyslex.....
    I had this happen to.
For some unknown resin my 2.5Ghz MacBook Pro overheated and witch killed it.  Requires a new Logic Board.
    Resions for this diagnoses:
    1) The laptop was running  Sarfia in Yosemite before before I closed the lid.
    2) I did not take note that when I had put the laptop down it had not gone to sleep.
    3) When after 3 hours shopping, I picked the laptop up it was VERY! hot on the bottom (much hotter than it has ever been) (and it was not the battery)
    4) Before I got it turned off by pressing the power button the fans where running but not fast.
    5) I let it cool down before trying to turn it back on.
    6) I tried all the reset operations
    7) The disk drives (HDD and Optical) spin up and did the diags.
    What I don't know is:
    1) Why did not the thearmail shutdown not kick in?
    2) Why when I picked it up and it was clearly VERY HOT! the fans where not running fast?
    3) If the OS was doing something (update while asleep)?
    4) If the OS was doing something how and why did it stop the fans spinning fast to keep the laptop cool.
Sadley I now have to shell out for a new Logic Board.
