Mac Book Pro (2012) tion not booting after installing boot camp
On Sunday I installed windows 8.1 on a partition that I made using boot camp assistant. It worked fine after I installed windows yestarday. Today when I turned on Mac Book Pro and booted it up from the OSX Mavricks partition it turns on but after I hear the start tone, I see the apple logo, a progress bar and then a couple seconds later I see the spining gears and then my computer shuts off. I tried booting the computer up from the windows partition and that worker fine. I tried booting it up from the mac OSX parttion and same thing again. I tried pressing Comand R on start up to go to disk utility so I could verify the Machintosh HD disk. It said that it needed to be repaired but when I went to go repair it I get an error message saying " Disk Utility Cannot repair this disk... back up your files." Next I try going in to single user mode and I type /fsck -y this does not work either. I tried booting into safe mode but that did not work. What should I do next?
Hello Jack Ryen,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
From your post I see that your Mac will not start up in OS X, and the result of you verifying the disk indicates you need to back up your files and reformat. As Disk Utility states, the next step for this issue is to backup and if possible reformat the drive.
Important: If Disk Utility is unable to repair the internal drive, you should back up your important data immediately and if possible, reformat the drive. Consider bringing the Mac to a Genius at an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for further diagnosis. Be sure to ask that, if the drive needs reformatting or replacing, they contact you about escalating your case to a special data recovery service. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail store, you can make a reservation (available in some countries only).

All my Photos disappeared after I saved a photo to Iphoto from an email from my wife. I am running Mountain lion on Mac book pro 2012, help. What did I do wrong?
Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

Mac book pro mid 2009 shuts down after a few hour of use and then is very difficult to reboot. Sometimes I have to wait hours, sometimes I have to repeatedly press the power button and then it will slowly start a little longer each press untill it completely boots. It has done this three times know. Each time I was watching a video.
Try running the Apple Hardware Test - sounds as if you've hardware issues.

Two questions, does resetting my Mac Book Pro late 2008 speed up after resetting? Also, do i need to get rid of my WLAN router to make my AIR PORT time capsule work?
Am grateful for any answers...its a 15,4"...
Will soon buy a new one, is battery better on 13 than 15 "?
Have a great day...If you mean restoring OS X, that won't necessarily have any effect on speed.
Not enough free space on the startup disk can slow your Mac down.
Click your Apple menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info > Storage
Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space.

No need for the WLAN router with AirPort Time Capsule. -
I have a new movie rental in my iTunes account on my Mac Book Pro but does not show up on Apple TV. All my other purchased movies are in there OK. Any suggestions?
It won't show up on your Apple TV until it is fully downloaded into iTunes on your computer, have you done this.

I have an 2007 mac book pro that does not have a place for HDMI cable. Can you please tell which converter I need?
You will need something such as this:
http://www.amazon.com/A-Sonic-HDMI-HD15-Male-Cable/dp/B001OLCHJ6
Ciao.
Note that this will only transmit video. If you need sound, the audio output port will have to be tapped.

I keep getting the error message "Restore Windows" When I click an icon on the desktop on my Mac Book Pro, it is not reaponding.
While holding down the option key, select "Go>Library" from the Finder. Navigate to the Preferences folder and you'll find "com.apple.finder.plist". Delete that file and restart.
Good luck,

I just downloaded a new version of OS7 to my iphone and when I try to sync with my mac book pro it will not finish and just spins around at the last step. anyone help?
It was telling you that you needed Mac OS 10.6.8 or later, not itunes 10.6.8
Syncing with iTunes on a Mac or PC requires:
Mac: OS X v10.6.8 or later"

Both the letters and numbers on my mac book pro (2009) are not working correctly, but the caplocks key still lights up,the delete key is like a back key,the o key is enter, etc. I think I must of pressed a button but I cannot find numlock or the action to fix it back to normal.
Need Help PleaseTry this. Open one of your files. The window that contains your picture is named at the top. Command click on the name and you'll see the entire path starting with its name and then moving to the folder, the folder it is contained in, etc all the way to down to the hard drive volume name. This should tell you where to find the folder.

I downloaded Mountain Lion on my Mac Book Pro but when I go to install it, it says "OS X cannot be installed on Lion." Any advice?
Right-Click the "Install OS X Mountain Lion" installer under /Applications and select Show Package Contents and drill down through the folders; Contents/SharedSupport. Drag the InstallESD.dmg file to your desktop. Grab an 8GB USB stick as the file is 4.35GB's and might not fit on a 4GB USB stick. Then mount the DMG by double-clicking it and stick your 8GB USB stick in and that will mount then you can use Disk Utility to restore the DMG to the 8GB USB stick. Then shutdown and reboot while holding the Option key and select the USB drive. See if that will let you install Mountain Lion.
One more thing, you have to format the USB Stick first and ensure it's set to GUID mode (under Partition tab Options button) or it won't boot.

I have a Late 2011 Mac Book Pro 17" and I want to install a Samsung 840 EV 2.5 1TB. What accessories if any do I need? I want to place my order once with all that is needed to install this equipment.
No you don't. All currently available commercial hard drives and SSDs have the same SATA connectors in the exact same place.
As to being plug and play that is up to interpretation. The drive will plug into the cable but then you have to partition and format the drive for the Mac OS X operating system and then install OS X on it or restore from a Time Machine backup or Clone from your original drive to the SSD. Those things aren't necessarily Plug & Play. Not hard, just time consuming. Some more than the others. -
before installing osx mavericks, do i have to create a back up of all the stuff that i have on my mac book pro or can i just click install and everything stays without getting deleted.
Never Ever do anything with an operating System without backing up first.
While it is usual for a new OS to install with no loss of data, the time you do it without first backing up will most likely be the time that you wish you had backed up.
In all of the updates and upgrades Apple distributes there is a recommendation to backup your data before installing.
The easiest option is to get an external hdd if you do not already have one, plug it into the mac and follow the prompts to use the drive for Time Machine. Note that any data existing on the external hdd will be erased so use a new one or one that you are confident is ok to erase without a disaster ensuing.
Also ensure that System Preferences -> Energy Saver has been set so the Computer Sleep is Never so that the backup will not be interrupted if this is the first backup or it is a long time since the last backup was done. -
My mac book pro has three updates ready to install. When I select all three of them and click install it shows them downloading, the computer restarts, and when the computer turns back on and I go to updates again they are still there to install. Help
Best to install them one at a time, re-booting between each one.
