Just bought a Mac Book Pro with the updated 500GB Solid State Drive.
This information does not appear in the Apple Menu - About This Mac. Is there a way to find this info on the computer.

Did you click on the More Info button?
in the Hardware list, did you try clicking on Serial-ATA?

I had an issue where I had to wipe my mac as well. What you have to do to format the hard drive and reinstall is this:
Restart the computer while holding down the option key. Choose the recovery disc. Find the main hard disc and hit format. Then you can reinstall Lion via the internet, it takes a while though, my computer took 5 hours or so.
For your first question, if you got the family version of office, I believe you have 3 computers you can authorize it on. If you are not sure, look it up in the apple store.
For the second: Time machine would probably be your best option, but I would reccomend restoring from a backup before you were having problems, and restore that one (put new files you need on another external or a digital-online storeage site such as dropbox.) To restore a backup, restart your computer and hold command+R and select "Restore from Time Machine Backup" (for more information go here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427 )
I don't believe tere is anything else you need to do, but I am new to macs, so I may not be the best source, but this is what I have found/have had to do.

Hot is normal for the charger but very hot is not. If it were mine It could be that your MBP is drawing too much current. I would take it to the Apple Store and have it checked out.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
If the machine is a MacBook and you get a black screen without a cursor, you might be able to log in by closing the lid for about a minute, then opening it.
If the login screen doesn't respond to clicks, make sure you're physically clicking rather than tapping a trackpad or Magic Mouse to click. Also try to make sure that there is not a wireless input device nearby that may be stuck in the mouse-down state.
Failing the above, continue.
The easiest way by far to recover is to restore the startup volume from a backup that predates the issue. If you can't do that or don't want to, the following shortcut works sometimes. There's no assurance that it will work in your case. It's only suitable for advanced users. I can't offer instructions any more detailed than those below.
Back up all data if you haven’t already done so. There are ways to back up, even if you can’t log in. Ask for guidance if you need it. Do not attempt this procedure unless you have a current backup of all data.
Briefly, you need to rename the following folder:
/Library/Preferences
If you already know how to do that, you can skip the rest of this message. Do it, and try again to log in.
Step 1
Start up in single-user mode by holding down the key combination command-S at the startup chime. If you’re using an external USB keyboard, it must be plugged directly into a built-in port on the Mac, not into a hub. Release the keys when you see a black screen with scrolling white text. In this mode, there’s no graphical interface; just a command line. Initially, you can’t make any changes to files.
Step 2
When the text stops scrolling, and you see a line ending in a pound sign (“#”), type the following command:
mount -uw /
You must type the command exactly as given, with no mistakes.
Press the return key.
Step 3
Enter the following command:
mv /L*/Preferences /Library/Preferences.old
Again, you must get it exactly right.
Step 4
Enter the command:
exit
Press return. The text will start scrolling again, and then the system will restart. Try again to log in. If successful, you can experiment with restoring some of the contents of the Preferences folder from a backup, or if necessary, from the renamed folder Preferences.old, although you may have trouble with permissions if you do the latter. Otherwise, just recreate all system-wide settings and delete Preferences.old by dragging it to the Trash.

My Mac book pro shows this grey distorted screen during startup. Any ideas?

Looks like the above for a few minutes but then will go to the login screen like normal and work perfectly.

Click on it once, and your first choice is "About this Mac."
Select that, and what version operating system does it say you are running?

I need to talk to someone about changing all of my accounts. A iCloud account was opened not by me and I lost 17 years of contacts. I have slowly gotten them back. My files from my Mac Book were taken and are gone. It has cost me about 60,000 dollars in business since November which has effected my staff as well. Many personal ireplacable memories of my childrens Photos were taken, Business, designs and accounting and personalFiles you name it gone or corrupted. My main PC including 4 external hard drives, then the Mac Book, My Iphones,itouch. Ipad were next and then my Mac Book pro. This is very humbling and heart felt. those who work with me have very strong beliefs, it was an internal doing or I should say someone gained or was allowed access to my home and equipment. I travel and tour and am gone quite a bit. This was and is the most difficult thing that has happened to me in a long time. In truth business and work will and can be rectified that not the point. It's how and what has been done which is the most damaging very personal almost vidictive but I will stop there. I feel so violated and saddened at the same time. I am hoping to contact someone through Apple or even an outside source to see if my files can be recouped and how to go about doing these changes all at once without all of the emails back and forth to approve changes in accounts what a pain. I want to change all accounts associated with apple. Apple ID and Pass words, I tunes ID and Pass word you name it.When I leave for work now days I have to take all of my equipment or lock things in the safe. I have an alarm system that is very good in additons to, animals still with the animals inside the motion detectors are off and in reality the damage has been done . I now this sounds crazy but I have proof of my back up files not all of them plus you can see in my documents all of my business accounts which are in orderof complition and dates are empty. My email accounts were also hacked and thru that individuals were able to change at will. When you have over 20 years of an association and relationships they know everything about someone. I do not want to press charges but I am to that point I need to bring in someone to investigate and I really do not know whom to even call. I have won awards for my work and my designs and information being taken has hurt more than words can express. I am currently out of town doing this late at night. I have changed my banking you name it. I need to have access to my computers to work but the stress of these constant changes and invasion of privacy are beyond expression. I plug in any of my usb drives and they are empty or my computers do not recognize them. I plug in my usb connector from my HP 8100 Printer with Blue tooth capabilities and it pops up and an external E drive for downloading just like an external drive. My printer acepts every imaginable portable disk on the market . Many of my usb drives are gone or have been corrupted. I have this darn air drop that goes on all the time. My computers I turn off and then they are on when I get up. I can go on and on. I live in the bay area and I am asking for help in trying to stop all of this. I will call Apple next but I wanted to put it out on this forum with the hopes of some response or input. I have all of my new and very minimal recovered information now on a web-based server which I know is safe the pass words and set up were done very discreetly (one can only hope). I apologize in advance for laying this out there like this. I am just so frustrated and because of the POSSIBLE implications makes it even harder In which I truly want to be proven wrong. I have never written or thought that I would be doing this as it is. If anything I hope some good comes out of this for someone. Bluetooth is a powerful tool this much I know now. Providing specifics on all the ways to do this will take more time than I am willing to spend here these days. You can do some of this with Home Sharing. You can transfer the entire library from one computer to another, If you do that you can delete what you don't want from the transferred library.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder. If you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there. (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)
You do not want to use a new AppleID. Change the AppleID on the new phone to the old ID. Purchases made with one AppleID cannot be transferred to a different one and it will be a royal pain to manage two Apple IDs.
Change iTunes Store account on an iOS device - Log out of your current account with Settings.app > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores on iOS 6) > tap on your AppleID. Log in with a different account. Note, turning on automatic downloads or re-download past purchases may tie the device to that account for 90 days - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627 https://discussions.apple.com/message/18484935 - "In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account") When you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again."

How to register mac book pro to my wife

We purchased a 13 in mac book pro about three months ago and everything was set up in my name and to my accounts. Well the wife loves it so much that she tool it and I got a new 15 inch. She would like to register the 13 in to herself and I was wounderin if there is a way to do this myself or do I need to get some help to do this. Any help would be great.

Never had to do this but your pest bet, IMHO, is to wipe the drive and reinstall with her as the main users and all admin rights.
But it seems funny that if she is logged on using her own account, and that account has admin rights, that your name is coming up when she is trying to do very simple things like add address to her contact list.

Mac Book Pro 2010: dramatically dropped in performance.

I purchased my Mac book pro about 6 months ago and recently it has dropped dramatically in performance.
Here is a list of issues I’m having:
- Takes ages to start up
- Lags when typing
- Lags when watching videos
- programmes keep crashing: Photoshop, After Effects, word
- When screen saver is on the screen flickers
- When video clip is playing the screen flickers
- Mouse sticks and freezes
- Brightness dimmer randomly changes
- Screen turns back on when brightness is turned off
- Windows through boot camp runs even slower.
And recently I have discovered in my activity monitor that quite a lot of my processes randomly jumps from 0.4 CPU usage to about 20.0. This happens to several processes like dashboard even though I have nothing on there.
My laptop stats are:
2.53 GHz Intel Core i5
4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
500GB hard drive

I would start by repairing disk permissions in Disk Utility. If you still have bad performance after that, do a PRAM reset (hold down CMD-OPT-P-R while Mac boots up). If you still have trouble after that, download a free program called Onyx and use it to rebuild your system caches. There's a very good chance this will fix your issues.

Click on the  in the top left corner, then About This Mac. The version number will be listed right under OS X.
If it is something like 10.8.3 or 10.8.4 (anything starting with 10.8.x), you can click Software Update to download 10.8.5 for free.

3 week old Mac Book Pro Slow

I bought my mac book pro about 3 weeks ago and it started off brilliantly. everything was amazingly fast. Now 3 weeks later it is so slow. i havent download much stuff on to it, it takes forever to load up pages in safari and any videos i try to watch is impossible without it stopping all the time (even if the buffer bar is complete)

Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them. Disk Utility's Disk Repair is not perfect and may not find or repair all directory issues. A stronger utility may be required to finish the job.
After that Repair Permissions.
No need to report Permissions errors....we all get them.
