Mac book pro automatically shuts down

I bought a mac book pro last december 2012, yet i already experienced problems with my mac last january 2013. Twice it failed to open after i had it in sleep. Charger indicated no light. Twice i also had it taken in for service, in both occasions they are able to open it after several hours and days of service. During the last diagnosis, they said that they did a thorough check and it all passed. Please note that when i had it in sleep, its charge is more than 50 percent. For the third time this week, it automatically shuts down and does not open and no light in the charger also. What could be the problem? Its already the third time this happens and its really getting too tedious to have the similar problem yet the service provider said there seems to be no problem but i cant use it continuously- could i already request for replacement? Thanks.

Problem is you have a faulty Mac computer. You need to take it back in with documentation, like a movie, of the problems you are having.
Basically all Apple does is run a software test on the hardware, if it passes that test they say "Everything is Fine" even though you are having numerous problems. Without proper documentation of the problem or problems you are having you will get NO help from Apple.

Thanks for the response Grant.  I had both set to "never" and the power connected.  I did however find while searching the forum page, an answer already given to another enquiry.  The security/general tab.  I had it checked, now unchecked am hoping it will solve my problem.  Thanks again, Cebustu.

Help I tried opening my Mac book pro after shutting it down but it won't open and all I get is a grey screen and a mo Jong mouse but nothin else so can u help me ??

    Hey HJA96,
Thanks for the question. I understand that your MacBook Pro is booting to a gray screen. The following article addresses this symptom, and provides relevant troubleshooting information:
Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570
    Some of the steps included:
    - Disconnect, test peripheral devices and network cables
    - Perform a Safe Boot
    - Reset the NVRAM / PRAM
    - Start from your Mac OS X Install disc; use Disk Utility
    - Check your cables and power source
    - Remove third-party RAM and internal hardware
    - Perform an Archive and Install installation of Mac OS X
    - Perform an Erase and Install installation of Mac OS X as a last resort
(See article for full information on all of the above)
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • My mail won't quit and now my mac book will not shut down or restart ANY IDEAS

MY MAIL WONT OPEN AND IT WILL NOT QUIT SO NOW MY MAC BOOK PRO IS STUCK IT WONT REBOOT OR SHUT DOWN ANY IDEAS

    Check this location:
    ~/Library/Mail/Bundles
If  anything in there place them in
    a folder named "Bundles Disabled"
    (create one).
    Try quitting Mail.
If it quits OK then something in that folder
    is causing problems.
    Thanks   ...   Ken

  • Mac Book Pro wont shut

The clasp that keeps my mac book pro closed when I'm not using it has suddenly stopped working. I can't get it to stay shut now. Does anybody know what causes this and whether it is covered by the one year warranty or if it can be fixed simply?
    Thanks for your time.

how long have you had the notebook?
i had the problem with the left clasp not coming down, but this was on delivery. Having only one clasp will eventually lead to the lid becoming bowed over time. I would get it seen to asap. not sure if its covered, it should be tho as its a manufacturing defect, and don't let them tell you otherwise. One clasp will lead to bowing. see picture enclosed:

What you should do next depends on the circumstances. For example:
If you installed the keylogger yourself and then forgot about it, remove it according to the developer's instructions. If you want to keep it, check for an update or refer to the developer for support.
If you're under 18 years old, and the keylogger was installed by a parent or guardian, talk it over within the family.
If you're an adult, and the keylogger was installed on your personal computer without your permission, then the computer may be evidence of a crime or a civil wrong. Consider the legal implications before you do anything. Assume that everything you've done with the computer is known to the party who installed the keylogger.
If the computer was issued to you by a school or employer, then you should check with the IT staff that the keylogger is authorized. Don't use the machine for personal business. If the keylogger interferes with your work, the IT staff will have to solve the problem.
In the event that the computer was tampered with by an unknown party, and you just want to clean it up, see below.
The only way you can be sure that the computer is not compromised is to erase at least the startup volume and restore it to something like the status quo ante. The easiest approach is to recover the entire system from a backup that predates the attack. Obviously, that's only practical if you know when the attack took place, and it was recent, and you have such a backup. You will lose all changes to data, such as email, that were made after the time of the snapshot. Some of those changes can be restored from a later backup.
If you don't know when the attack happened, or if it was too long ago for a complete rollback to be feasible, then you should erase and install OS X. If you don't already have at least two complete, independent backups of all data, then you must make them first. One backup is not enough to be safe.
When you restart after the installation, you'll be prompted to go through the initial setup process for a new computer. That’s when you transfer the data from a backup in Setup Assistant.
Select only users in the Setup Assistant dialog—not Applications, Other files and folders, or Computer & Network Settings. Don't transfer the Guest account, if it was enabled.
Reinstall third-party software from original media or fresh downloads—not from a backup, which may be contaminated.
Unless you were the target of an improbably sophisticated attack, this procedure will leave you with a clean system. If you have reason to think that you were the target of a sophisticated attack, then you need expert help.
That being done, change all Internet passwords and check all financial accounts for unauthorized transactions. Do this  after the system has been secured, not before.

  • MacBook Pro automatically shutting down

My Macbook Pro (2010) keeps automatically shutting down almost every time I put the screen down.  WHAT CAN I DO??

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Post the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message. When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • My MAC book air keeps shutting down alone, what could I do?

since yesterday my mac book air keep shuting down alone with full battery, why is that? what could I do? Im working on my thesis so I really need my computer.

If this is a new Macbook Air - return it and ask for a replacement. You seem to be having this issue (the one which I described) which is still ongoing and occurring with new Machines. Apple has (in the US) a <14 day return policy do not let it expire. Especially if it occurs while plugged into mains power.
If it is not a new machine one other sometime/part-time cure is an SMC reset or a PRAM/NVRAM reset.
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
There is also a Facebook Page about the problem

My Mac Book (NOT PRO) get hot and shuts down

Open Activity Monitor to ALL PROCESSES and % CPU to display values from high to low.
Download and install iStat Menus or Bresink Temperature Monitor:

When your Macbook gets hot, post images of Activity monitor and a temperature display (before it shuts down).
    Run an Apple Hardware Test:
You may have to use the #2 installation disc.

  • Why does my mac book air just shut down when working

When using my mac book air it just shuts down. I usually need to tap several keys to restart.  Any help?

If you mean that it just shuts off without any warning, then this might help:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Otherwise it needs to be fixed.

  • My Mac Book Does not shut down

I got a top of the line MacBook in March 2011, paid some $3000. It has had a problem from the beginning and unfortunately the dealer convinced me at the time it was a random happening so i did not return it immediately. But it is really intolerable.
When i try to turn it off, if i have used any programs, it goes to the blue screen but then the circle thing can be going forever and it never completely turns off and it heats up, even if i have quit all programs and nothing but the finder is running. I have to force shut off by pressing five buttons at the same time, including on/off button. It is irritating. At first i thought it was just an inconvenience at shut down, but increasingly the fan is working full time and so loudly all the time and when it does this i know it will not shut down. Shutting applications does not fix it. I have to turn it off, and go through the routine of forcing shut down. When using several applications i think it is slow for a macbook and apps go into loops of non-responding. For a mac with 8GB of memory, an i7 processor, it is not good enough. I am increasingly thinking that all the problems are linked. After 15 months of denial i have had enough of it.
I have used macs since the 1990s and i am more than fed up with the number of lemons i have had from Apple. I just did not want to believe that this is another one. Just not good enough. SInce 2011 i have bought 8 ipods for presents, an ipad and this macbook. Lemons made me go away from macs but i came back.
    Anyone having similar problems?

Just as an experiment, try resetting the SMC (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964).
If that doesn't work, maybe someone else can come up with something. Did you buy AppleCare? I would have insisted on a fix during the first year of warranty, but if you bought AppleCare, you can always make an appointment at a Genius Bar and take it in (even if you don't have AppleCare, take it in - they won't charge you to diagnose the problem - just to fix it).

  • Mac book pro automatically start to recovery

I pushed in and held down the power button and then restarted the computer and it automatically went to the recovery options it will not start up normally please help

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
