Mac Book Pro ejecting Leopard Disk!

I'm not sure whats going on. I have a Mac Book Pro Core Duo 2. When I put the leopard disk in, after about 1 minute, it ejects and does nothing. My other mac book pro installed fine. My friends iBook also recognizes it. What's up?

You're not going to believe this, but I had the same problem this weekend on my MB 2GHz (white), and found this answer on another board: insert disk and turn the machine upside down. Hold it that way until the familiar sound of the disk read completing is heard, then set it down back upright. I know it sounds bizarre, but it worked for me, after I had run disk util and every other goddam geeky thing on the disk to try and fix it.

A PowerPC G4 or G5 can't be upgraded past 10.5.8. If you're trying to install an application and not a newer Mac OS X version, check its system requirements and use the original disk or download.

Connect the HDD to your MBP.  Open Disk Utility>Erase and drag the HDD icon inrt the Name field.  The format should be Mac OS Extended (Journaled).  Click on the Erase button.
Then try the clone process again.  You may use Disk Utility>Restore or a third party cloning application such as Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper.

I could not find a MF-4430 at the Canon site. Are you sure the model is correct? They have a MF4450. The Mac drivers are here:
    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/imageclass _series/imageclass_mf4450#DriversAndSoftware
If you are sure you have a MF4430, look around the canon site for the drivers.

  • Macbook Pro ejects Leopard disk

I just went down to my local Apple store and bought Leopard. But when I put the DVD in the drive, it spins it for a few minutes and then ejects it. The DVD never mounts. I have a DVD-R with Unbuntu Fiesty Fawn that I then tried to mount. No problem. It mounts and I can open files from the drive.
So I started up the Ubuntu desktop. It mounts the Leopard disk just fine. So it seems that the drive works (and it reads DVDs, since I've seen other posts where a superdrive reads either CDs or DVDs, but not both). And the install DVD can mount on another computer.
    Any ideas?

Same issues with Leopard disc my macbook pro was repeatedly ejecting the disc-- very frustrating and weird... I read some stuff here and elsewhere, tried turning the laptop on it's side and upside down with no results. As I explored more I found that it was ejecting ANY install dvd-- CS3 and my EyeTv install disc ejected as well. Long Story Short I found something called Disctop Pro a freeware widgety type thing that installs a preference panel -- all it really does in reality is create a large image of a dvd on your screen when you load a disc... OK I'm not sure WHY or HOW>> but it fixed my issue- Installing Leopard now as i type this... CS3 disc loaded normally and hopefully I will have none of these issues with Leopard upgrade HOPE this helps someone out... and thanks to developers of disctop pro that they accidently fixed my problem.

  • My mac book keeps ejecting my disk

how can i stop my mac bok from ejecting disk?

Often cleaning the DVD lens will make it functional.  Use a DVD lens cleaning disk.
Occasionally using a different brand of disk will solve the issue.  Verbatim seems to be the best in that regard.
    Ciao.

hallo, i will be buying a mac book pro17 inch but i had a couple questions first...
from what i understand about hard drives, my best option is the 160 gb with 7200 rpms.. i believe that faster is better than bigger in this case...and i should get an external drive to store other data and keep the start up disk as free as possible...is all this more or less correct?

  • I am using a mac book pro with Leopard OS. when I switch my laptop on it flashes a grey folder with a question mark on a grey screen, after the chime. I have tried all the things mentioned in another discussion. none of those have helped. HELP! im scared.

what must i do? im a student and dont have backup for my work. Im in desperate need of a solution where i wont lose my work from my desktop.

You need to purchase Leopard if you don't have the DVD and reinstall OS X:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • Where can I buy an old Mac Book Pro with Leopard?

Hi, my old MBP died a couple of days ago, and I rushed to get a new one, as I needed to finish some projects. I discovered I can´t run Final Cut Studio 3 and none of my Adobe Creative Suite CS3 on it. Which means I am still stuck, in Germany, unable to work, and with an OS that´s totally useless to me.
I tried to figure out the best way to get Leopard on this machine, but it seems quite a challenge, and I am just thinking to take it back to the shop. Where would I be able to get an older one, new, possibly not refurbished?

Any refurbished, early 2011 MacBook Pro, sold by Apple, can have Snow Leopard installed on it. There's a good chance these will ship with Lion preinstalled, but if you can get the model specific install & applications disks from Apple, you can install Snow Leopard on any of these computers. You can only get these disks from AppleCare. But, if you want a recent MacBook Pro, and want Snow Leopard, other than used, this is a good choice.

  • Migrating Powerbook to Mac Book Pro - Firewire  & Leopard questions

    1) I have a clone (CCClone) of the PB hard disk. Can I connect this to the MBP instead of the PB started in target mode for migrating my data, preferences etc? (The PB is reluctant to restart, so I avoid it as much as possible).
    2) The PB is still on Tiger (10.4.9). Will there be an issue copying across preferences, mail, address book etc data? Should I first upgrade the PB to Leopard? If so, can I use the Leopard installation DVD that will come with the new machine?
    Thanks.

That's OK. I hope you get it sorted. I mounted my Firewire backup disk on the new MBP, let it run the migration assistant, and it stalled - complaining that it could not copy some file. I created my userid myself and dragged over, folder by folder, the contents of my old account. I was selective in, for example, preferences and application support stuff, 'cos there were a lot of relics of applications that had been tried and discarded.
The only thing I had no success with - I probably missed a file somewhere - was my network locations. Mail worked a charm - on all six mail accounts. I haven't got PGP mail going yet, but I think the new version isn't ready. Safari still provides my name and password on login pages. No Address Book issues at all. iCal didn't pick up the calendars I had brought over, so I dropped them on it one at a time and that is now OK.
After 3 days I think I have it pretty well under control, with only half-a-dozen things left on the migration todo list.

  • My mac book pro start up disk is full how do I fix this ?

My start up disk is full what do I do to fix this?

    Remove files.
Get an external drive and off load the files you want to keep but archive. Then delete those files from your Mac. You should try to keep at least 15% free space on your hard drive least you will trash it. Without your being specific with more details that's as general as it gets.

Yes, look in your Finder's sidebar under Shared, you should see the TC there. Connect to it using whatever password you set up when you first configured the TC, and then you can move files into the shared volume.
Don't forget that only one copy of a file is not a backup, so ideally you would have a second copy of your files somewhere else.
