Mac Book Pro fans

I have a two month old MacBook Pro and lately I've been having strange fan issues.  I'm not doing anything and the fans ramp up to over 5000 rpm's and don't shut down.  Sometimes they'll ramp down if I put the computer in sleep.  Goes on for a long time.  Then I started to hear a sound like a dog panting...seriously!  Took it in and while the sound was noted, it stopped, and they could not get the fans to act up.  Ran tons of movies and high usage stuff and the fans acted normal.  Well, here I am again..nothing open but this site and the fans are up over 5500 and have been for 20 minutes.  Any ideas?  Thanks

i suggest you have a fan control program and mandatorily set it to a low value.
Hi ch,
I recommend not doing that. Heat kills computer electronics. That's what the fans are for. As the sensors sense higher temperatures, the fans are supposed to increase speed to keep things cool. Keeping them at low speed will allow the computer to overheat = not good.
One thing I have heard of that makes sense (if you feel the need to change something and install a fan control app) is to set a higher minimum speed, say 3000RPM or so, low enough so you cannot hear it, but higher than the normal "idle" speed. This should keep the innards cooler longer, thereby preventing the fans from speeding up to audible levels for a longer time, but still allowing them to as needed. Note: I (and many others) have never had to use a fan control app, as my MBP regulates itself like it's supposed to, increasing speeds as it needs to, then decreasing as things cool down.

  • Mac Book Pro fan constantly running

For a couple of days the fan of my (15" late 2011) MacBook Pro has been constantly running and the Mac has become sluggish. The CPU temperature is 156 °F. It seems that the problem would be caused by "coreservicesd" process taking a huge percentage (57%) of the Mac RAM.
What is wrong? Restarting the Mac does not help. Thank you.
I am running OS X 10.9.3 with 8 Go. RAM and 500 Go. HD

  • Cost of replacing a fan in a mac book pro

HOw much does it cost to have the fan in 15 inch mac book pro replaced

The last time I had my fans replaced (2011) the cost of each fan was $17. Labor was about $34 for a total cost of $68. But I had both fans replaced. This was on a 2006 MacBook Pro so your prices may be different.

  • HT4543 How do you know if the fan is working on the mac book pro

How can you tell if your fan is working on your mac book pro?  I cannot hear mine running and can't feel any air coming out. A couple of weeks ago, my battery literally exploded out of the case,  Is this an item that can be self serviced or does it require a trip to the Apple repair store?

Macbook pro fan usually has really LOW noise, and it is not really strong, so you might not feel the air.
Fans are used to cool the CPU and GPU, not batteries.
But if you need to replace fans or batteries, take it to the store. Make reservations to save time.

my mac book pro will not start, i hear the fan sometimes but nothing else

What is the exact model of your Macbook Pro?

  • Mac Book Pro heating up and fans working continuously

    Hi,
This is my second Mac Book Pro, the first one "died" because of heating issues and only after an overhaul from the Mac Store, it worked again, but never the same, so I went to the Mac Store to get another one.
I purchased this one on March 2009 and three days ago it started heating up and using the fans constantly, consuming my battery very fast and making the annoying noise these little fans make. Not to mention the heat above the function keys is way beyond normal (normal: not burning your fingers when touching it for a couple of seconds).
Having had a bad heating experience with a previous Mac, I am freaking out now. Any advice on what should I look at before going to a Mac Store?
I don't use any games or very sophisticated software, basically Office, Firefox and iTunes with movies and everything included.
Here are some of my Mac's specs.
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 6 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz

Well it looks like there's a printer driver that is monopolizing your CPU. Do you have a Lexmark printer that you use? If so, here's a few things to try:
Download the latest print drivers for Lexmark and install them:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL901
Open Print & Fax in System Preferences and delete your Lexmark printer. Then hit the "+" symbol and add the printer back. That will let it install the new drivers.
If that doesn't work, check out the response by "Pitch64" near the bottom of this thread:

    many thanks Carl.

You must boot from another drive in order to erase the system drive.
Try starting up with Snow Leopard DVD inserted and C depress. That should get you booted from the DVD. Then start Disk Utitlity from DVD and erase the disk then you should be able to install Snow Leopard.
Remember that everything will be removed from the disk when you erase it and install Snow Leopard so backup first.

  • Is normal in the mac book pro with the retina make fan noise al the time ?

Is normal that the new macbook pro with retina make fan noise all the time?

    Hi everyone.
I just bought an mac book pro retina , 15 inches , 2 GHz, Core i7, 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3. I'm a programmer , so, I really don't give to the mac book an exhaustive use, so the performance of the machine is good for me. But recently , I discovery some kind of issue : a noise fan when I reproduce a video from Internet, in full screen mode.
I download the iStatus Menus program for mac, to has a complete dashboard of the situation , and I got this :
    1) When recently start the mac book, the statistics are
All in order, the revolutions of the fan are OK, no fan noise at all.
But , just opened a video in full screen , a few seconds after opened start it, the machine increase the temperature from (normal) 40° to 98° (so high), and the statistics change dramatically , as follow :
As you can see, the fan revolution increase 3x , from  2000 to 6000 . The use of Google Helper increase over 200% . And obviously the noise fan make me crazy,
I've only seen this "issue" on that scenario, ( internet video full screen reproduction ). That's not happen , even when many applications are open.
Should I worry about this ?,  or, this is a normal behaviour on the machine ?.
I'll appreciate any advice or answer.
    Kindly regards.

Hello, I'm pretty sure my fan on my 2009 mac book pro has stopped running. Would this cause the computer to slow down and take for ever to boot up and show the color wheel every time I select an application ? how involved to replace fan ? cost ?
    thanks

Not directly, but if the CPU overheats because of incompatible software, that would cause slowdowns. Do not allow the computer to run if the fan is not working unless you wish to fry your motherboard. Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.
