Mac book pro hd upgrade
I am looking to upgrade the hard drive on my 2010 13" mac book pro any suggestions for good brands? Also about how much will this cost?
One thing you have to check before purchasing is the drive height. All these drives are generically called 2.5" Mobile HDDs and the width and depth are standard (70x100 mm). However, they can differ in height and this may be a problem in our low profile computers. My 15" MBP came with a Hitachi HTS727575A9E362 which has a height of 9.5 mm, but some other brands are 12.5 mm and may not fit.
Also note there are two drive speeds available, 5400 and 7200 RPM. The faster drives do give a noticeably better performance and are not that much more expensive. However, the largest capacity drives with 1 TB capacity, may not be available with the faster speed.
And if you have money to burn, there's always the Solid State Device (SSD) option, but they do not go all the way to 640GB or more yet.

How much ram will a late 2011 mac book pro 17inch upgrade?
These are the specs for my Macbook Pro
MacBook Pro
17-inch, Late 2011
Processor 2,4 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

My Macbook Pro contains 2 memory slots, each of which accepts
a 1333 MHz DDR3 memory module.
i want to upgrade to the maximum the RAM i have. I want to know what kind of RAM card could I get someone in this community to reccomend.
thank you very muchOne reason I favor OWC is that if you call them up and tell them that their RAM is malfunctioning, replacements are sent out that day, not when they get the bad RAM from you. There are a couple of forum colleagues who use Corsair RAM with no problems. Macs seem to be very selective about RAM and some brands simply do not work properly in Macs. OWC and Crucial have good track records, hence the recommendations.
I often grin when someone complains about an inexpensive or bargain part does not perform well in a Mac. When one pays a premium price for a computer, I would think that quality should come before price for any add-ons or modifications. It is like purchasing a Ferrari and then using regular gas.
If your replacement Corsair RAM is working, you should be just fine. One bad experience should not condemn a manufacturer or vendor.

Do apple provide mac book pro RAM upgrades?
It currently has 2gb of ram and I would like to give it 4gb or more. I got this mac in late 2008
Yes, Apple sells RAM upgrades -- for two to three times as much as anyone else does. Upgrading the RAM in your machine is a snap, and instructions are in your MBP user guide. Buy the RAM online and install it yourself. Here's one good place to buy, and a link to the right RAM for a late-2008 unibody MBP:

My late 2008 mac book pro runs slow and freezes
Hi, there! I have a late 2008 mac book pro and few months ago I upgraded the operating system from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. Since then my mac book often freezes, it is much slower than it was with Snow Leopard and the most annoying thing of all, is the almost inevidable freezing of the toolbar (where language selection, date, clock and other useful tools are located)
I was wondering if someone has experienced similar issues with his Mac Book Pro when upgraded to OSX Mountain Lion and if someone knows if and how this issue can be resolved?
Thank you.I have the same problem. Up until 2 days ago my MacBook Pro was running fine, then suddenly things started going wrong. I am using mac os x 10.6.7 as well. Does this have something to do with any firmware updates.
Any help/ suggestions welcome. -
I am running mountain lion os 10.8.5 on mac book pro mid 2012 build. If I upgrade to Mavericks will MS Office programs still work? There does not appear to be an updated version of MS Office for Mac past 2011 that I bought last year and am using now. Thoughts? Suggestions?
Thanks.Office 2008 and 2011 will run on Mavericks, but you may not be able to get the installer for it at this time.

I have been trying import VHS video into iMovie via a Hollywood Dazzle bridge. I have been successful doing this in the past, but now it is not working. I have a mac book pro, 10.9.1, (mavericks), iMovie 10.0.2. Everything in iMovie looks like it is working. It reads "recording" in the upper left hand corner of the pane while the video is playing. When I stop the process to check on my clip it says that the file is empty. The only thing that has changed since I did it successfully is that I upgraded to mavericks from whatever I had previously. My system is about one year old. Any suggestions?
Hey, Clinton,
Thanks for your help! I was able to go to iMovie 9.0.9 and import video. I was still curious as to why it didn't work in version 10.0.2, so I contacted Apple tech support. They were't sure at first as to why it wouldn't work, so they had me delete iMovie 10.0.2 and then re-install it just to see if something had gone wrong when it upgraded. That didn't change anything. In the end, they determined that 10.0.2 doesn't support the Hollywood Dazzle DV bridge. But I have a workaround path from them that I will share so that it's possible to import to 9.0.9, then move it to 10.0.2.
1. Open iMovie 9 (finder/applications/iMovie 9.0.9
2. Import from Dazzle Bridge to iMovie 9, note which event you are importing the clips into
3. Close iMovie 9
4. Open iMovie 10 (probably in the dock)
5. File/Import Media...navigate to home(this was my name, on the left side of iMovie, under Favorites)/Movies/iMovie events. Find the event folder that contains your Dazzle clips (tip-try sorting by date modified to look at recent events.)
6. Select the clips and import. Click the blue "Import Selected" button on the bottom right.
You may get a message that some files cannot be imported. Click continue import. It's a little glitchy. It imports your clip, and also makes a copy of it, too. On the copy, the audio is normal, but the video is choppy. In any case, you would delete the copy, anyway.
Hope this additional information helps somebody else. Thanks again, Clinton for helping me! -
We have 3 user profiles on mac book pro. want to upgrade to lion but want to be sure that all users are backed up to ext hard drive via Time Machine. When I go into Time Machine - I cant find anywhere my user account (1 of the 3) - loads of photos and documents. For other user accounts - if i go to open a folder i cant ''no permission'' is the message. All I want to be sure of is that there is a back up and for these 2 reasons I am far from sure.

Be sure they're not excluded in Time Machine Preferences > Options.
Also, if iPhoto is open while a backup is running, Time Machine may not be able to back up the changes in the iPhoto Library. It will "catch up" the next time, if it can.
For other user accounts - if i go to open a folder i cant ''no permission'' is the message. All I want to be sure of is that there is a back up and for these 2 reasons I am far from sure.
That's correct; one user, even an Admin user, doesn't normally have access to another user's files. You should see the same behavior if you try to look at their data on your Mac.
Log on as the other users (or have them do it) to see their backups. -
as soon as I upgraded to the new itunes, when clicking on the icon in the dock I noticed the icon bounced up and down once but itunes never opened up. Tried it latter in the day and it still would not open. My operating system is 10.6.8and I have the current apple updates installed up to this date today. the funny thing is I waited on the itunes update, and then decided to go ahaead and upgrade and soon as I did, well you know what happened. If I could ask a second question, what if I just went back to the original software version when I bought this computer, would I have less problems. I tried this earlier because of problems with flash and my nikon software needed the apple upgrades to work (they no longer make the older version). BUt when I worked it on the original software everything worked great (no nikon) but I could not see the videos on youtube, and other internet content on various sites. So my question is, if I decide to cut and run back to my old home, how could I solve the the flash problem or could I just get an earlier version of flash? My mac book pro I beleive came with 10.6.4, or what ever they had about three years ago around November. But this itunes thing is really bothering me and if I can fix this then I will avoid any further iupgrades even if someone puts a gun to my head. Just kidding. Thank you again for your help
My MBP (15", early 2009 model, 8GB RAM, 1TB internal drive) showed in Software Update as not needing any other updates, and I downloaded from Apple's site directly and installed iTunes 11.1.5 rather than doing it via Software Update (I've had some glitches with the 'direct' install from SU in the past, so I manually download updates from Apple's support website instead).
Hoping Apple will figure out what's wrong with this version under 10.6.8... -

Photoshop 5.1 does not open up after upgrading to Yosemite on a 2009 mac book pro
Adobe Photoshop 5.1 does not work after installing upgrade Yosemite. I have a mac book Pro - 2009
Have seen CS3 (I have) mentioned as working with Maverick/Yosemite
Current Photoshop is creative cloud - you do not have to purchase all elements - instead of lump sum, Adobe charges a monthly license fee - the software resides on your mac - and the mac has to check in once a month to keep the license going - updates are part of the deal.
CS6 apparently is still available if you want to pay the lump sum for an upgrade. -
CAN I UPGRADE MY MAC BOOK PRO WITH LATEST MAC
I brought a mac book pro in augest 2010 from apple store. Is there any possibility to upgrade my mac book with latest configuration offered by apple? My mac book pro in is very good condition as it is when i brought it. Please let me know regrading this...
Thanking youApple will not normally buy back old Macs. They do offer a recycling program with the store. Inquire at your local store. This is a user to user forum, so no one here can answer for Apple directly, except with what we have experienced as users.

I just bought a Mac Book Pro and the Appstore show one upgrade of iPhoto (9.2.1). I started a section with my Apple ID (the account that I have I use to iTunes) but when I try to update it says that there are upgrades available for other accounts and that I have to upgrade using the account that I used to buy iPhoto. What do I have to do to upgrade iPhoto?
Dear Katty,
Thank you very much for your answer! I have 2 Apple ID, and I have tried both of them and the problem continues. I founf several peolpe with the same problem in apple communities foruns and that really seems that there is some problem. I addded the links for 2 of those discussions.

Hello,
I have a Mac Book Pro, Mid 2010, and I would like to upgrade my internal hard drive. Is there all the things I need to proform this operation from just using materials bought from Amazon. Can anyone provide me a list of tools and hard drives (500GB or more, internal, dont care if it is SSD or HD) I needed to proform this operation from just buying the things from Amazon (that uses amazon prime, for shipping)?
Also, can the Genius Bar at apple store proform this operation? Is it free? Do they provide the tools and I bring in the hard drive? And, can they sell the hard drives and use their own tools so I can just walk in the store and let them proform the upgrade (i doubt that option is free)? Thanks!
