Mac book pro HDMI port to TV
I have a retina display mac book pro and ive just plugged in my hdmi cable to my tv and nothing shows on my tv
any ideas?
You are not necessarily doing anything wrong. The TV is probably connected in Extended Desktop mode, which means it is opened as an extension of your Mac monitor, not a mirror of it. If you would like to continue using your TV as an expansion of your Mac desktop, then it's working correctly: The reason you don't see anything on the TV part of your desktop, is because you haven't put anything over there yet. Drag the documents over to that monitor.
But if you want to show the same documents you have on your Mac, you need to switch it to Mirrored mode in the Displays menu bar icon (if present) or in the Displays system preference.
You should explore the Displays system preference to see options for handling multiple monitors. For example, if your TV is to the right of your Mac, you probably want to use the multiple monitor icons in Displays to tell your Mac how your monitors are arranged in real life. That way, when you drag a spreadsheet off the right edge of your Mac screen, it will enter the left edge of your TV screen.

Problem connecting Samsung Galaxy SII to Mac book Pro
Hello. I have issue with connecting Samsung Galaxy SII to Mac book Pro Late 2011! When i connect phone to Mac via usb, phone makes sound but nothing happens. Even if i open Transfet tool. Problem is not in Phone or wire as on another computers like my MinMac it works fine. Also on Windows side all is ok. Mac book Pro USB ports also are ok as it finds and open my iPhone5! Is there possibility that there is some faults with USB drivers in Mac book Pro! How can i reset or restart usb drivers if fault is there! What else you can suggest to try?

I plugged it in to my MB Pro and followed the very small writing that came in the package and got both audio and video going. You need to change the audio settings from within System Preferences on your Mac to select your TV as the audio output.
My concern is the data latency - do you experience a delay between moving your mouse on the MBPro and the TV displaying the movement? It is only a fraction of a second, but certainly enough to be annoying, especially in a cable as expensive as the iWire. -
I have mid 2009 Mac Book Pro running 10.9.1. The hdmi mini port no longer supports sound on the Sony TV. This is apparently a change. It no longer shows as an option in system preferences/sound.Any ideas?
The 2009's didn't support sound on HDMI. That came in 2010. Are you sure it ever worked?

Thanks Community! I solved the problem. In fact it was not a problem but lack of understanding. These guys at Apple are way ahead in thir thinking. I will try to explain as short as I can.
In Lion, ihe Prefferences/Display show only two choices: 6-7 steps of resolution and some color tab. No two screens, no two display to overlap, nothing for us to do. "That was the problem"! Everything is automatic.
When I connected the HDMI cable to the Miniport into a T-bolt slot, the TV screen showed the "spiral galaxy" how Zyriab is calling it. In fact he gave me the best clue. That shows the connection is good. But where is the Mac Book image?
You have to drag it to the right out of the Mac Book display area, and "voila!" it will continue on the TV screen. The same with the mouse pointer, push it out ofthe Mac Book display area and you see it on the TV sreen. Good image, you can keep the max resolution, etc. The sound is still on the Book's speakers. I have to figure that out.

I need to do live streaming with a Mac Book Pro 2011, using a new model of Sony HD camcorder (http://store.sony.co...ber=HDRAX2000/H) ..this camcorder model does not have firewire out/input ..it comes only with a component video output, USB, HDMI and composite A/V video output..
I wonder how can I plug this camcorder to the firewire port of my laptop? Browsing on internet I found that Grass Valley Company produces this converter http://www.amazon.co...=A17MC6HOH9AVE6 ..but I am not sure -not even after checking the amazon reviews- if this device will send the video signal through firewire to my laptop, in order to live streaming properly? ..anyone in this forum could help me please?
ThanxI can't broadcast with the built in iSight webcam... how would I zoom in or zoom out? or how would I pan? I've seem people doing it walking with their laptops but that's not an option for me... there's nothing wrong with my USB ports but that's neither an option to stream video because as far as I know through USB you can't connect video in apple operating systems ..you can for sure plug any video cam or photo camera through usb but as a drive to transfer data not as a live video camera... is by firewire an old interface developed by apple that you can connect all sorts of cameras to apple computers... unfortunately my new sony HDR-AX2000 camcorder doesn't have firewire output...

I retract my previous "No." If you can live with limited performance (slow refresh/choppy action video/no gaming) on the second external monitor, you could use a USB video adapter and a DVI-HDMI adapter to connect it to a USB port on your computer.

Just a note about the system information that appears below your post: iOS 4.3.3 does not run on Macs, only on iPods, iPads and iPhones. When you're posting about your MBP, it would be more useful to those responding to know which version of Mac OS X you're running. I received my TV channels by the internet. My TV box has the capability to "record" movie as a hard disk, but my provider doesn't allow to create a backup on a DVD or external support.
To do so, I'm looking for an acquisition tool (HW + SW) that I can connect by HDMI from my TV Box to my "future" Mac book pro. Does any one of you have already find this type of tool ?
I saw on the new IMAC 27" that the DVI port support also the Input mode, how does it works ?

AlainI have the exact same issue (I beleive you're from France with one of those IPTV services...).
I found the BlackMagic HDMI input card (http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/) which is pretty cheap and does allow you to connect your set-top box via HDMI, hence capturing the video stream in 720p or 1080i.
The only issue is that you need a PCI express slot, ie a MacPro. Like you, I only have a MacBook and a MacMini, so we need an external gear... Any idea? -
So I have a Mac Book Pro with a bootcamp Windows 8. I dual monitor on the Mac side with my Mid 2011 iMac through my mini display port via thunder bolt cable. In my perfect world, I would be able to switch to the Windows side and have the iMac mirror or extend my windows display for my gaming pleasure, etc. I'm not sure if it's just a simple driver or that it cannot be done. i bought a mini DVI to HDMI convertor and a HDMI to VGA cable to connect my mac book pro to a tv but it doesn't work any one can help.
I would suggest looking into a Thunderbolt to HDMI connector. In this case, you may be able to use the TV as an external monitor. For this option, please confirm through additional research. I have not tested it personally.
You can also use an Apple TV, which connects with HDMI. In this case, you can use Airplay Mirroring. Not all Macs support Airplay Mirroring, so you need to check first. I have a Mid-2011 27" iMac, and it supports Airplay Mirroring. I don't use it often because my TV is in another room, but I just tried it and it worked.
