Mac book pro mail gmail outgoing offline
suddenly i could not longer send email messages through apple mail account (my gmail account is linked). can receive messages, but out going messages sit in the out box. i can send messages with my gmail account if i go in through the web browser. i checked my mail account and it says that outgoing gmail is offline. how did this happen and how do i fix it?
This happens often with Mac Mail.app. The only suggestion I have is switch to any other mail program available for OS X, there are several. Mail.app in my opinion is the worst mail clients ever.

Mac Book Pro mail vs Powerbook mail
I have a new Mac Book Pro C2D and mail was apparently working fine, but I've noticed more and more that I'm not receiving some emails.
I have my old Powerbook running next to it and all the email are being received on the Powerbook, but the C2D is being selective on which emails it receives.
They are set up exactly the same????
Any ideas.I'm using .Mac (which seems to be the problem account) and Gmail, which is delivered into my Mac Mail account (usually duplicating the same email twice)?

I have a 3 month old MacBook Pro that has developed in the last 3 days a strange problem within Mac Mail app. When I send or reply to a email message it shows up in the email thread or sent messages folder as a COMPLETELY different email to an entirely different address. The incorrect messages/addressees that appear are from emails sent several years ago. It appears that my emails are being received normally to the recipients (what I actually sent is received, instead of what is appearing to me as what I sent), but as the thread continues or new messages are exchanged the thread is meaningless and garbled.

Gmail and Mac Mail on Mac Book Pro OS Lion
I have a Gmail account
I have set this up on my Mac Book Pro in Mail
E-mails come in to Mail, I then archive the ones I want to save and then I attempt to delete them from the inbox and the sent box
The inbox then refills all the emails from Gmail
When I look online at my gmail account, it shows all the same e-mails but with "IMAP Deleted" next to it
How can I set it up, so that if I delete the emails on the Mac, they are deleted online and do not continue to refresh and repopulate?

AndrewMy question too! I don't see the need to archive messages I want to delete. If want to archive, I should be able to archive them to a folder, which mail apparently does not do like Gmail. I much prefer archiving them to specific folders/labels instead of All Mail. I've never even liked All Mail so I keep it hidden so I can forget it is there.
If I want to delete, it is because I want them Gone, to the trash to disappear for good.
And, I want what I do in mail or on my iPhone to be reflected in my Gmail account and visa-versa. But how?
I only use Mail because I want my gmail emails backed up somewhere in case my account disappears or I am permanently locked out suddenly, like has happened to some people. If I can't get it to work smoothly, after the countless hours I've already spent playing with it trying to figure it out, I will end up just dumping Mail I'm afraid. I'd like to keep using it though because there are some things I do like about it.

Okay, so I am NOT the most tech-savvy girl so please excuse me if I'm sounding really stupid... I have a mac book pro (2 years old). I like to download podcasts on my iphone and I guess they then sync via iTunes cos they appear on my mac book pro as well. BUT recently one pattern making podcast (I'm a student fashion designer), has shown up in my gmail menu under RSS feeds, I'm not sure how long it's been there but I clicked on it a few days ago and since then my gmail is totally stuffed! When I say stuffed I mean: the whole of my gmail on MBP is frozen with the spinning beach ball of death on the open patternmaking podcast/RSS feed window I tried to open- although there is no images or anything it's just frozen before it downloaded anything. I can force quit and then use the rest of my MBP fairly ok, although it does seem slower- and I didn't have time to deal with it as I've had to write a 5000 word essay to be handed in tomorrow so I just completed that & now I can deal with it since that's all done. But if I open mail back up its still frozen on that RSS podcast thing I opened and while it's opened my ENTIRE computer is affected- it just lags (HUGELY) as in safari won't load properly, when I try to open file/edit/tools or anything on the top bar menu it takes like 10 minutes to pop down n then 5 minutes to acknowledge my command. I've just turned my MBP off right now to write this on my iphone I turned it off by pressing the power button for 10 seconds.
I desperately need this mac for uni as I study online and the $11000 programs I bought only work on mac.(as in the software that enables you to do the course is sent to you based on your type of computer) I'm terrified. Can someone please help me? In laymans terms lol I don't care if I lose ALL my emails as I have them on my iPad & iPhones so no biggy ill do whatever I have to just to fix this issue.

Go to Safari menu > Preferences > RSS and uncheck all the boxes, Check for updates: Never, Mark articles as read: After clicking them, Remove articles: after one day, and Remove now. See if that does the trick. -

Drag the com.apple.mail folder to the Desktop
Scroll to Mail folder.
Select the V2 > MailData folder.
Delete any files in MailData with envelope in the name. (should be 3)
Log out under the Apple in the Menu bar.
Log in
When you open Mail it will re-index your files.

Select the Finder in the Dock. Under Go in the Menu bar > hold down the Option key and you’ll see the Library. -
Safari, mail and app store won't open (mac book pro, lion)

my brother can't open safari, mail or the mac app store on his mac book pro running ios lion.
until yesterday he had no problems but today it doesn't work.
when he tries to open one of these programms they jump around at the dashboard infinitely.
his internet connection works, he can use skype and the itunes store without a problem.
what can he do to fix this?You might want to re-post this in the MacBook Pro Discussions. PowerBooks (there's no such thing as a PowerBook Pro!) can't run OSX 10.6 or 10.7.
However while we're here, without any personal knowledge of this issue, I would suggest that if you haven't done it already the first thing to try would be to
repair permissions. -
I have a mac book pro. Yesterday the mail app failed to open. I have tried to open it from the dock and the application folder but nothing happens. Does anyone have any suggestions to get it to work?
You don't need iDVD unless you are going to make DVDs. If you are just trying to share files, iDVD won't help you at all.
What you want to do is in iMovie, choose File/Share/File, and export that way. It creates an .mp4 file that should be readable on Macs or Windows.
You could also File/Share/YouTube if you don't mind posting them to YouTube, because of course YouTube videos are watchable by any Mac or Windows computer made in the last 10 years. -
How do set up your hotmail account on a mac book pro properly? I have it set up so I get mail but on my hotmail account I have lot of separate folders to save messages in(for example :- bank, skyp, work, Facebook, apple, ect...). They don't show up on my mac. I also have an iPhone and iPad, there is no issue here when I set those up. I automatically got my separate folders. Anybody have any idea or encountered the same problem?

Hotmail on a Mac is POP3 only, you will only get the basic folders (inbox, sent, trash etc) and it will not sync with other devices.

You have to add another email address on one of the two devices that you can use as the "You can be reached for FaceTime at" contact address and then remove/uncheck the Apple ID email address as the contact address on that device. The way you are currently setup is like to trying to call yourself on your on phone - from your own phone.
Using the iPad as the example go to Settings>FaceTime>You can be reached for FaceTime at>Add another email address. Then add a working email address in the next window. Apple will verify the email. Go to the inbox of that email account, read and respond to Apple's email in order to complete the verification process.
Go back to Settings>FaceTime>Uncheck the Apple ID email address and make sure that the new email address is checked/selected (you will see it being verified again) and that new email address will be your contact address for the iPad. -

my mac book pro would connect automatically to my wireless network in ny. then I went to vermont with my computer and connected to my wireless network there. when I got back to ny I changed it back to my wireless connection here but it wont stay connected. each time i go on mail it asks me to join a network. it hink i did all the right steps but it wont stay joined.

If you're running OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and take the remedial steps suggested in the summary that appears, if any. The program also generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.

If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. Continue if you find that Wi-Fi is faster with Bluetooth disabled.
From that same menu, select Open Bluetooth Preferences. If the box labeled Discoverable is checked, uncheck it. Click the Advanced button, and in the sheet that opens, uncheck the top three boxes, if any are checked. Click OK. Enable Bluetooth and test again.

My 3G unlocked iPhone is not syncing mail or contacts from my mac book pro, using Lion. I am able to get a calendars and music, only. I get the message that I need to reset the password which I have done 3x's on the phone and on the Apple server.
Good to know that, but what can I do to get the mail and contacts downloaded from Icloud onto my Iphone? I am told that the password needs to be reset and I have erased and reset it 3x's already? Should I Restore All Settings or Restore Network Settings or will that result in a situation where I have to have it re-unlocked again? GRACIAS!
