Mac Book Pro (mid 2010) keeps restarting...

This has been a reaccuring issue. So, let me start from the top:
Back in August, I paid $30 for the Mountain Lion update. Everything went smoothly, up until the computer kept crashing and restarting. I opted to restart the whole system, clear the hard drive and reinstall Snow Leopard (as suggested by an Apple rep). So, back in Snow Leopard, everything is dandy.
Come the Mavericks update, I'm very hesitant to update. So, I wait a month to update to the latest version.
Last week, I opted to update my Mac to mavericks and that's when the restart/crash syndrome came back in full effect. Basically, the screen cuts to black and an error pops up in several languages telling me there was a problem and to press any button to restart.
Last Saturday, I took it to the Apple Store. They ran diagnostics at the Genius Bar, and it came up with NO issues. I decided it was best to send it off for repairs in case anything would be missed.
Today, I picked up my Mac Book Pro. They showed me the issues and defective parts it had (Brack Top Case Front-Cables) and they replaced the bad hard drive.
Fair enough.
Now, a good 30 minutes in to using my Mac Book Pro, it crashes yet again.
I'm starting to think that this is a major software issue. Maybe it is incompatible with the graphics card. I don't even know. But it's frustrating. I would go back to Snow Leopard but man, I really want to play Starbound.
Anyone have suggestions? I don't think Apple will be able to help me much at all because everything that was apparently wrong with my computer has been fixed. The defective parts are replaced...

In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post any other kind of diagnostic report, such as a hang report.

  • Mountain lion and the problem it causes. How can I watch my Mac book pro mid 2010 on my TV passing through an amplifier for 5.1 sound?

    Hi guys,
before Mountain Lion came out, I had my Mac Book Pro mid 2010, nicely connected to my DENON AVR-1912 amplifier through HDMI. The Amplifier would send the signal to the TV and manage the Audio as well.
Since Mountain Lion came out, I could not anymore use my iWires HDMI cable to connect my MacBookPro to the amplifier, as my Mac would not recognize anymore my amplifier as a TV and therefore would not give me the display option that it used to give me with Lion. Result- I can not adjust the signal that goes through the HDMI cable and the signal is not recognised by the amplifier and then  transmitted onto the tv. NO SIGNAL
So I went to the apple store and was told I could use the Apple tv 3rd Gen to do that. So I bought it, and went back home. After having installed and realised that it didn't worked as well,  I've called the Apple customer Service. They told me thta unfortunately, since I have a Mac Book Pro bought in mid 2010, I can not benefit from the mirroring function (Come on an i7 processor is absolutely good enough to do that). I asked if I could upgrade my Mac to a machine able to do that as I need this functionality. I was told I can't. I have to buy an other machine and sell mines through their recycle program....
So I returned my apple TV 3rd Generation, and decided to buy a VeeBeam HD. This product says that I can easily stream from a Macbook Pro with an i7 and 4Gb of ram to my TV. However, when the Veebeam arrived today, I tried to install it... and it didn't work, why? Because Apple has changed some "protocols" and does not allow anymore third party companis to produce products that stream data from Apple products to a TV.
So... my dear Apple, how am I meant to watch what I've got on my laptop (movies, music and stuff) on my TV going through my Amplifier now? It really seems I can not go by cable (the cable Apple sells- iWires), I can not use the Apple TV3rd Gen, and I can not use third party products.
    IS this normal to you?

  • Mac Book Pro (Mid 2010) is no longer recognized the external monitor since Lion update.

Mac Book Pro (Mid 2010) is no longer recognized the external monitor sinceLion update. On Mac OSX 10.6, I had no problems.
Mac screen is just blue, as if he switches. But then there is no further signal.
    What can I do?

Bump- I have the same issue.  Screen slowly dims for no observable reason until I rearrange to point it more directly at light source.  Odd thing is that the light in the room does not change.  So scren will be fine for hours while I am working and at some point just slowly dim until I rearrange.  Any information helpful.

To repair any hardware damage would require opening the phone up.
Software, put the handset into DFU mode and try that, it's a basic operating system on the phone that does nothing other than process the firmware upgrade request

are mac book pros mid 2010 capable of upgrading to mountain lion?

    Yes.
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99.
If you sign into the App Store and try to purchase Mountain Lion but the App Store says your computer is not compatible then you may still be able to upgrade to Lion per the following information.
    A. Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.
    B. Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • Mac Pro Mid 2010 keeps restarting after installing OSX Mavericks

    Hello,
my Mac Pro Mid 2010 started quitting and restarting after installing the Mavericks OSX. I was thinking about wiping out the drive and reinstalling OS X Mountain Lion but thought I should see if anyone else is experiencing these issues before going that route.
It just intermittently restarts and it tries to restart multiple times before it will actually start up again. It's not issuing a crash report. It just quits out and restarts. It started doing this just at initial startup. It now will quit and restart at any given time and it will take multiple times attempting to start before it actually starts up. I've even had to shut it down because it would going through that startup sequence without starting. No perceivable pattern as to why this is occurring. No specific programs that it occurs in. The only thing I know for certain is that it started happening after installing Mavericks OSX – OSX Mountain Lion was fine. I also made sure to unistall Mountain Lion before installing Mavericks with those potential issues of trying to install one operating system over another. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Specs for Mac Pro Mid 2010:

    - OS X 10.9.2

    Hello Linc,
I followed your instructions. I have information for the BOOT_TIME and for SYSTEM DIAGNOSTICS sections. I've included all within one post with heading separators between the two sections. I wasn't sure if you needed this posted as two separate posts or not. If this isn't correct, please let me know and I'll do again. Hopefully I didn't pull too much content for the BOOT_TIME section. I was trying to search for enough diverse content that would clearly represent what might be occurring. It was also challenging to choose content for the BOOT_TIME section though because there was no time-stamped content close to the time of BOOT_TIME time stamp. The last time I restarted my system was hours before I attempted your exercise. And, I haven't experienced "crashing"  more than it just automatically restarts in the middle of things. I wonder if that's why there were no .crash reports? There was only a list of .panic reports so that's what I provided. Thanks for your help Linc.

  • Mac book pro mid 2010 crashes on easy tasks

Please, this is crazy! I am so f**king angry right now!
It is the 10th time today that this f**king machine crashes because of a simple task like opening a folder in a finder window or just now, sending an e-mail.
This is stupi and has to stop!
Many other user experiencing similar issues and even hardware replacements haven’t stopped this.
The Genius’es say it is the Nvidia graphics card and it crashes while switching from one to another card.
But why than is Photoshop working, watching Videos on YouTube and the machine breaks down on easy tasks like opening a folder from a finder window.
Several time it has crashed while clicking on the Reply or Send button in Mail.
I am running the latest OS X 10.9.2 on an MacBook Pro 15" mid 2010, 2.66 GHz i7, NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 512 MB

    11th time today!

  • Can I install a SATA SSD on my Mac Book Pro mid 2010 Model 7,1? OWC recommends a SATA 2 SSD to get get 3Gb/s transfer rate.

I have a mid 2010 MBP Model 7,1 and I would like to swap out the HDD for a SSD.  I was looking at replacing it with a Samsung EVO 840 (500Gb) SATA 3 SSD with 6Gb/s transfer rate.  But OWC recommends a SATA 2 with 3Gb/s transfer rate.  OWC recommends the SATA 2 because  my system will allow 3GB/s whereas with the SATA3 it will restrict it to 1Gb/s.

I was looking at the Corsair website and found a couple rams they
recommend. They both use 1.35V which I believe is the same voltage as my
current 2x2G Ram.  I have a local computer parts vendor that carries the
Corsair Rams for my MBP 13" but the voltage is listed at 1.5V.  Would they
still be compatible with my system?
    Thanks for your help,

  • My Mac book pro mid 2010 is incredibly slow! Even after refurbishing.

My Mac book runs very sluggishly, I have replaced the hard drive, 1TB 5400, doubled the ram, 8GB and performed a fresh install of snow leopard and I'm still getting the beach ball all the time. The boot time is well over a minute. Any ideas would be really appreciated.

Do you still have the install discs from your original 2009 computer? It comes with two discs, the applications and the OS X install disc. You need the applications disc that has the installer. I used those on mine, then manually upgraded the 9.0 to 9.1, then 9.3.2.
    9.1 update http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1322
    9.3.2 update http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1562
Some people lost their discs in the past, and have ventured to talk to the Apple store. May be worth trying if you cannot find the discs. No guarantee of help though.

I have to restart the computer several times because the mouse will lock up. I don't know if any of these issues are related.i am running OS X 10.8.4. Need help. Thanks

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
You can also try resetting the SMC which may help with some of your problems.
