Mac Book pro not booting up?

hello, I have my macbok pro 2.2 ghz and i am running leopard 10.5.2 i have a HP laserJet 3300 Printer, so i found that the mac does not come built in with the drivers for this so i inserted the HP LaserJet 3300 CD into my computer i installed it and was prompted to reboot so i rebooted my mac turned on fine but now i am at the stage where the screen is white, there is a grey apple in the middle of the screen and the little grey "loading thing" rotating. And ive been here for 45 Minutes i have tried performing a force-shutdown and then turning it on again and i have had no luck. I would really appreciate it if somebody could help me out.

I am sorry to hear of the issue. First, disconnect the printer..
Eject the disc also if still in the drive.. You can do this by booting up and hold the trackpad button (mouse button) till it ejects.. Try your restart then. Now the disk repair from the install disk/ disk utility / may work too. Try safe mode.. Start holding down the shift. It may be a start up item with the HP software..
You don't want to install with the disc that they gave with the printer, You NEED to go to HP website and see if they have the correct drivers for Leopard and your model. And best of luck with that. Not sure if they do yet. Hope that helps.

  • Mac Book Pro on boot up, the apple sign will appear with the spinning wheel.  After some time, a grey screen wil appear with a movable mouse, but will not boot up.  Help!

Mac Book Pro on boot up, the apple sign will appear with the spinning wheel.  After a period of time the screen will turn grey, but the mouse will still operate, but not boot up.

If it was purchased brand new then it's running a version of Lion, so to reinstall Lion:
Reinstalling Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.

  • I have a mac book pro with Boot Camp that also runs windows.  I upgraded to Lion and somehow it crashes the mac side peridoically.  I am told I need to "clean" it and reinstall lion using the recovery drive.  will that delete the windows partition too??

I have a mac book pro with Boot Camp that also runs windows.  I upgraded to Lion and now the mac side crashes/freezes periodically, especially iphoto.  I am told by the genius' that I probably need to "clean" it and reinstall lion using the "recovery drive" which resets everything back to default and reinstalls the lion operating system.  My question is will this also delete the "windows" partition drive and all that data too.  If so that will be a huge pain in the ___ to back up and reinstall boot camp and windows. I want to shoot the lion.

There is no system like Acronis for the Mac platform. You can try using the buiilt in Disk Utility to create an Image of the complete Mac drive but I have found that this does not work very well as on tryiing to restore it gives errors sometimes.
You can use SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to create a bootable Clone of your system partition. But that is only for the System partition and not the complete drive.
If you use Boot Camp to install Windows on your Mac neither of those two programs will clone the Windows side.
Neither will Disk utility as Mac's can not create or write to a NTFS partition. So some other program is need for that.

  • Replaced Optical Drive now Mac book will not boot up

I bought a second hand Mac Book Pro A1150 model.  It did not have an optical drive so I bought one, installed it and now my Mac Book will not boot up.  When I take the drive out the Mac Book boots up fine.  I was told that the optical drive although used was tested and work when it was shipped out.  I'm a little new to Macs but not new to working on computers.  Is it common for a possible defective optical drive to casue a Mac Book pr to not boot up or does this sound like an issue with the optical drive cable, or possibly the logic board?

That is true.  I cannot think of any way to test the Optical Drive without swapping it into a known correctly operating MBP.
A thought which probably may not be an issue.  When I installed an Optical Drive in my old (2006) MBP, I remember seeing in the instruction manual an item called a grounding pad (which looked like a tiny steel brillo pad with out soap) which was missing in mine.  The MBP worked and I essentially ignored it.  Perhaps that may not be case with your situation.
My thoughts are that the Optical Drive is malfunctioning and the cause of your problem.  Perhaps you should consider getting a new replacement from OWC.  But that entails a $100 risk with no guarantees of success.
    Ciao.

  • Why does my mac book pro not show in 1080p on my flat screen

why does my mac book pro not show in 1080p on my flat screen. My mac bookpro always showed in 1080p on a Sanyo Plasma screen. Now when I connect mac book pro I get a blank screen. It will display in 720 but not 1080p. Also will show in 1080i but pictures flicker.

    davenug,
given how much we currently know about your MacBook Pro, why do you think that we would know the reason? Please help us to help you by providing relevant information about your MacBook Pro — which model is it? Which version of OS X is installed on it? Is its battery fully charged? Is its AC charger working properly? &c.

  • Boot Camp Mac Book Pro Can Boot to Win 8.1 but not Mavericks

My Mac Book Pro Mavericks partition is damaged and I cannot boot to it, I can boot to Windows 8.1 without any issues.    Disk repair did not fix the problem, any suggestions?   I also tried using Migration Assistant to from my iMac to the Mac Book pro, had no luck there either, since Migration assistant being run on the iMac could not find another Mac.

You can upgrade to Windows 8.1 for free. Just open the Windows Store in Windows 8 and you will see an option to download Windows 8.1 update. The update may take several hours.

  • I am in mavericks disk utility recovery mode as my mac book will not boot up & stays only on the grey apple screen. When I verify the disk I get open error5 :input /output error on Syst stuck on 1 minute pouring out over 50 error messages & still counting

I am in Mavericks disk utility recovery mode as my mac book pro will not boot up & stays on the Apple grey screen . When I verify disk permissions I get
Open error 5:"input/ output error" on syst with over 50 of this messages & still counting . Disk Utility says 1 minute
But this has been going on for over 10 mins .
I can not verify disk or repair disk .
I have tried to reinstall mavericks operating system but it says my hard drive is locked which is very strange .
Does anyone know what is going on here ?
My system looks like it has been totally corrupted . Thanks Andrew

Could be. The "lock" isn't actually looking for a password.
WARNING: This will completely erase the ENTIRE hard drive.
What you would need to do is boot to recovery > disk utility > select the MAIN drive on the left side > partition > change partition layout from CURRENT to 1 PARTITION > ensure on the right side it says Format : Mac OSX Extended (Journaled) then push APPLY.
Then if it will allow us, close the windows until you see the 4 options popup again and select "Reinstall Mac OS X" select the Mac HD and you should be good to go!

  • My mac book pro wont boot up

i turned my mac book pro off, and now it wont boot. i try reinstalling os but it wont let me.its showing it in the disk utilty, now it wont let me install.it says mac os x cannout startup from this disk. What do i do?

I can't help you until you answer the questions I asked. If you want to reinstall Snow Leopard then follow these instructions:
    Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
    1.  Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.

  • Wifi On Mac Book Pro Not Connecting

The wifi I am about to lose my mind! The wifi  on my mac book pro will not connect to my home router. I had this problem when I moved in (2 months ago) and the solution would be to unplug the router and the cable modem and plug them back in a few minuets later. However, that fix is no longer working. My network has a password protected option and one without a password. I can connect to the password protected option fine. However, after a period of time that ranges from a few seconds to a few minuets I will get a pop up that says "connection time out has occurred" and I will no longer have internet connection. I have to go back to the wifi icon on the top tool bar and reselect the network. This happens non-stop. When I try to connect to the other password-protected network I will enter my password and it says connection time out has occurred and will not connect. If I enter the wrong password it just says invalid password. EVERYTHING else I own works on the network. My roku, ipod, ipad, kindle, galaxy 4, my roomate's iPhone, and both my roomates' laptops (neither are macs). It is not a matter of there  being too much traffic on the network (like Apple suggested) because I have disconnected literally everything else just to see if it would work and it still did not. My internet works fine when I am on my college campus, but when I go other places like Starbucks or the air port I do notice that my internet is substantially slower then the people sitting next to me.
So I called Apple because I bought the extended apple care. They went through their long list of troubleshooting...it all failed...so naturally they concluded that it must be the router that’s causing the problems.
Its not the router. Everythign else works on the network. There is post after post on here about the same exact thing happening to literally hundreds of other people. It is a brand new router. And at my last apartment wifi was included in the rent (so it was the apartment's router not one I bought) and the same problem still occurred (Apple has record of this because I called them then too). At my old apartment I resorted to just plugging it in the wall with an Ethernet cord but unfortunately, that is not an option at my new house.
Apple said that I can bring it in and have them look at it but it’s obviously going to work there and I really do not have time to drive all the way there for them to just tell me that since it works there it must be router's fault when I know its not.
Has anyone had any luck in dealing with Apple and Apple Care in regards to this issue

It would help us to know which model computer you have, which OS version you're using, how much RAM (if applicable), etc. You can have this info displayed on the bottom of every post by completing your system profile and filling in the information asked for.
This will help in providing you with the correct troubleshooting solutions.  The more info about your computer you include, the easier it is to help you.
If you do not know the model of your Mac, you can check under Apple Menu/About This Mac -  which is located in the upper left hand corner of your Finder.

  • Mac book pro not going to sleep

mac book pro when put to sleep, the monitor turns off, but the light does not indicate sleep mode, I can hear the motor running and it is warm, indicating it is not sleeping.  It is an early 08 mac book pro, running Lion, completely updated.
Anyone aware of this issue?  Apprectiate any insight.
    Thanks
    JT

Are you **** closing the lid to put it tp sleep? It might be operating in clamshell mode for some reason. Try the drop down menu for the Apple and click sleep, or option, command ,eject.
You can check your login items under accounts, and get rid of all those, by highlighting and using the - sign, it could also be a bluetooth item tha is keeping your mac from sleeping, a phone headset, mouse, etc. If it is a blurtooth yhing turn off blurtoth till you need it.

  • Mac Book Pro not working replaced logic board

    Hi all,
My Mac Book Pro died on me about 2 weeks ago. I was using it like I normally do and then suddenly an error message came up on the screen and a white transparent screen came from the top of the screen to the bottom. Then it shut off. After that we tried resetting the PRAM and tried booting it from a Snow Leopard disk. The machine won't chime. It does spin a disk in the drive though, but there is no video either.
I brought it in to an apple store and they said it was the logic board. I purchased a new logic board , installed it and the symptoms are the same. Does anyone know what the problem could be?
    -Steve

I purchased a new logic board , installed it
Make sure you installed it correctly no loose cables, etc.

My Mac Book Pro is not connecting to y wireless modem. It keeps saying it is timed ot. Also the sound is not playing well. Sounds distotes at times and low in volume. Mac Book 2009. 15in

Software Update only works for incremental updates.. not necessarily upgrades.  MacOS Version 10.x.y where  x = major upgrade and y = incrementenal update
MacOS v10.5.8 is Leopard and v10.6.7 is Snow Leopard. You first must buy Snow Leopard v10.6 for $29 single use or $79 Family use upgrade price, and then run Software Update to get to the current update revision level which is 10.6.7.
