I installed Mountain Lion OS on my Mac Book Pro and now WORD for Mac and Fluenz Spanish program do not work. How do I reinstall original OS and scrap ML?
    Thanks

My previous answer still stands: Restore from your backup taken before you upgaded to Mountain Lion. For example, a Time Machine backup, a Carbon Copy Cloner clone, or a commercial backup service. Not the disk that came with your computer (which is how I read "OS back up disk").
If you reinstall the original OS from the disk that came with your computer, it will wipe out everything on your computer. (The installer won't install an older OS over a newer one, so you'll have to wipe the disk first.) Then you'll need to restore your data from your backup and reinstall applications like Word.

  • Can you use a 2007 Mac book pro as a monitor for a current Mac mini?

Is it possible to use a 2007 Mac book pro as a monitor for a current Mac mini?

Use a product such as ScreenRecycler over a network. All of these products require a standalone monitor to set up.

  • Mac book pro verses iMac(intel)for streaming video

Mac book pro verses iMac (intel) for streaming video (skpying) which one would you recommend?

Neither one is particularly advantageous. Streaming video will take a considerable amount of power, meaning you'll probably want to keep a MBP's power adapter connected.

  • Some one has blocked Safari on my Mac Air for 'security reasons'

Someone has blocked  Safari on my Mac air " for security"  temporarily the same message came up on my iPhone 6 Plus but is now gone. Need to remove the block from my computer

    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Problems
If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide, remove adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac, and AdwareMedic. If you require anti-virus protection Thomas Reed recommends using ClamXAV. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for this recommendation.) You might consider adding this Safari extensions: Adblock Plus 1.8.9.
Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.
The following comes from user stevejobsfan0123. I have made minor changes to adapt to this presentation.
Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
    Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
    Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.

  • New mac air for old mac air.

Hi. i bought a mac air last month and now i see that new mac air is coming out in the market. so can i exchange my mac air for new mac air?? what is apple exchange policy/?? help me please.

    Hey Everyone,
So today I went to the Apple Store to return my late 2010 model MBA, that was purchased on July, 2nd 2011, to buy the new MBA. It was very easy, and everyone that was involved was very kind. All I had to do was bring my receipt & the original packaging and they took it without any questions being asked. I was also able to upgrade to the 13" model with 4GB memory and 128GB flash storage (for a fee). So to answer the original question, through my own experience you should be able to return & exchange your MBA to the newer model if it was purchased within 30 days, good luck!

  • I am 13 but going into high school next year and possibly an elite boarding school that is 9 hours away from my town. I need to get a mac air for school purposes. How can convince my parents to let me get one?

My house has always had macs and my parents don't like pcs. I don't either. They are slow and so far behind from macs.  So i am going into high schoo next year and parents don't let me on the computer without asking and have them all password protected. I did have my own ibook g4 but it broke randomly. My mom says i will isolate myself from too much scree time and get depressed but i love macs and i would like to work in an apple store someday but i'm not even allowed to buy my own ipod touch with my own money. But my mom has an new imac, ipad and  iphone and ipod and all of this has been gifts to her. But i really need a computer for school. I have written lists of good reasons not like i want it but good ones and asked nicely but my mom just says because and thats the only reason i need to know. and by the way she is a teacher so she thinks technogly is evil. How can i get the mac air??

I really do not want to enter a family discussion about what you should or should not have.  If the MBA is to support your school work then you need to present your arguments on that point.  If there is a concern about using a Mac when the school supports PCs then point out a Mac can also use Windows on a BootCamp partition so it is fully compatible with both systems.

  • Trade in Mac air for iPad air

will apple store accept trade in of Mac air 13 (mid-2011) for iPad air?

Only if you purchased the Air from an Apple store 14 days ago or less.  Since you have a 2011 MBA, that is not going to be the case so you will have to sell the MBA.
    Ciao.

  • MacBook Pro or MacBook Air for 6th Former.. HELP

    Hi, thanks for reading this.
I understand this is a constant discussion on most forums however everyone has different requirements and I'd like to know people's opinions according to my personal situation.
I'm 16 and have been saving for a macbook since I got a job, and I've got to the stage now where I can buy the macbook (yay!!).
I'm going to sixth form in September studying science, maths and history (so nothing intense!), but in my spare time I write music and I'm interested in running Logic Pro X (looks amazing!!) as well as possibly Aperture for some light photo editing, but the main uses will be Pages and safari.
The MacBook Pro looks great, and is really upgradable and I like how you feel as if you're getting more for the money as there's a whole lot more aluminium and the specs are considerably better (bar the SSD). I'd upgrade the RAM to 8GB too.
However the Air has impressive battery life and is stunning as well as having an ssd in built, however it has a (somewhat) piddly processor that I fear could struggle with running 12 or 16 tracks in Logic Pro with effects and safari/emails running too. However I know the pro would manage easy and it would be possible to put in an ssd with 8gb of ram and it would be a demon.
So I'd like to hear people's opinions really - for months I've had my eye set on the air and now I'm going more towards pro bit I'm still undecided. I work in an electronics store where we sell MacBooks so I know my stuff about them to some extent, however the down side to this is that i would have to buy the stock machines and not the made to order ones from apple - i just wanted to hear other people's experiences with the products and hear people's recommendations.
    I'd really appreciate your replies,
    Thanks in advance :-)!
    Lewis.

100% Mac Book Pro - You can swap out the DVD drive and put an SSD in there as well as the traditional HDD, so you have the best of both worlds, i.e. good storage capacity and a quick drive for OSX and Apps to live on.
However, in the real world, i don't think you would really benefit majorily with an SSD when the expense is considered.
They are quick, boot times are quick, apps open quicker etc.  but chances are any sample libraries you have etc. will be on the standard HDD so within an app you may not see a huge performance increase.
The great thing about the macbook (If you're not aware) is closing the lid, opening it and everything is ready to go again in seconds -  So for me startup times etc. have never been an issue, so i'm yet to even try considering an SSD personally.
i5 is great, but the i7 really is much better, it has 4 cores as opposed to the 2 core i5's and software like Logic will make use of those cores.  If you're running a lot of plugins it will excel.  But, trust me, the amount of plug-ins it can handle may well exceed your requirements that an i5 would more than be capable of.  It's very hard to advise without know what plugins may be used in the future!
As an idea, i could quite happily run 20-30 tracks on my i5 loaded up with effects and instruments, it runs hot, but that's because Apple in their wisdom decide to make everything as thin as possible, thus reducing ventilation.   However, i've ran on various different macbooks like this for years now and not one problem, they are very well designed.
Most of my projects hit around 15 tracks, and by that i mean 15 distinct tracks and it's more than comfortable.
Sure, if you start spreading your percussion/drums into their own seperate tracks you can already add 5-6 on tracks on that list, and you can have additional tracks running from the same instrument plugins, and start getting into 30's and 40's which it will run fine with too.
If you think, for the majority, you will be using Logic's built in instruments (Which are great for composing) they are very efficient.
Something else to consider is that on the 13" MBP Logic's interface feels a bit tight, like you haven't got enough room to work within.  So if you're running from the laptops internal screen seriously consider the 15".  On reflection i wish i got the i7 in a 15" now.  But, my 13" supplements my other machines so i would miss how portable it is, it's ideal for work.
If you like the 13" form factor then it's easy to put it out to an external monitor too, you may need to if you're mixing.  You need that screen space, and the resolution can go beyond 1920x1080 if monitor supports it.
Also, from experience, Aperture is a real resource hog - Even the lightest of work on that can push your resources as it's none destructive, i.e. it's rendering any changes in realtime.  So Would also go Macbook Pro for that reason too.
Just one more thing to add, i've ran 20+ tracks on Core2Duo 2.4ghz machines, any modern machine from the apple line-up has plenty of grunt for most people, but as AOS said, the Air really wasn't intended to be used with 'pro' applications.  It must run incredibly hot if put under load!

  • MacBook Pro vs MacBook Air for online college?

I'm starting grad school in another month or so (MA in Education and a k-8 teaching credential). The entire program will be ONLINE with WGU (Western Governors University). I'd love to buy and use just a MacBook Air, but I wonder whether it will be sufficient for an online program? My other option is a MacBook Pro.
    Any thoughts?

    define sufficient
If you plan on much/ larger video editing then get the Pro.
I own both, and love both,... prefer the Air a bit more for portability, however that is purely subjective.
The NEW macbook Pro and Air are extremely close in form factor
The newest macbook Pro is essentially a larger macbook Air with Retina display and options for speed in increasing prices up to an independent graphics and quad core processor.
both Air and new Pro now have PCIe SSD and permanent RAM.
The Air is the lightweight portable form factor, fast to boot and shut down, but with longer battery life than any of the macbook pro in 13"
Now the new macbook Pro and macbook Air are extremely close in form factor and nature.
    both have 802ac wifi
both have permanent RAM, no superdrive
both are slim profiles and SSD
The only real differences now are (in the most expensive Pros) faster processors and quadcore processors and top end model autonomous graphics, also HDMI output on the new macbook Pros!. ....and of course the retina display
both are now "very good for travel"
DETAILED bench tests between the new AIR and the new PRO here:
    http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013/11/how-to-choose-13-inch-macbook-air-vs-13-i nch-retina-macbook-pro/2/
Other than features the form factor of the Air and Pro are VERY close now,....so now its merely a matter of features and price more than anything.
You need an external HD regardless of what you get for backups etc.   Drop into an Apple store and handle both and make your choice based on features, such as Retina or non-retina, .... both at a distance now look like the same computer.
The Pro weighs more, ....but nowhere near what it used to just a month ago on the older macbook Pros
The NEW macbook Pro is a different creature entirely than the older macbook Pro, .....the new Pro is thicker than the Air, but id frankly call the NEWEST Pro a "macbook Air with Retina display" , or
Maybe a “macbook Air PRO with Retina display”
Instead of Air vs. Pro now,.....its really a smooth transition from Air to pro without comparing say, 2 different creatures, now its like contrasting a horse from a race horse (rough analogy)
Either one in 8gig of RAM (preferably)... the 4gig upgrade costs very little,  the I7 you will notice only 15% faster on heavy applications over the I5, and NOTHING on most APPS.....I5 has longer battery life.
As you see below, the non-Retina 13" AIR is 82% of the Macbook with Retina display in resolution
there is no magical number of pixels per inch that automatically equates to Retina quality.
    http://www.cultofmac.com/168509/why-you-might-be-disappointed-by-the-resolution- of-those-new-retina-display-macs-feature/
A huge internal SSD isnt a game changer for anything, you need an external HD anyway
what you WONT READ on Apple.com etc. is that the larger SSD  are much faster due to SSD density
"The 512GB Samsung SSD found in our 13-inch model offers roughly a 400MB/s increase in write speeds over the 128GB SanDisk/Marvell SSD"

  • MacBook Pro or MacBook Air for college

    Hi guys!
So this is the typical college question from a mac lover, do I get the air or the pro?  Currently my major is undeclared, but I'm looking into engineering.  At the moment I don't do a lot of work with video and photography, but I am hoping to get more into that stuff although it wouldn't be like getting a major or a minor in it.  More like just fiddling around.  I usually watch a lot of DVDs and I have a fairly large music library.  I'm hoping to just use netflix and get rid of some old music next year but chances are that won't happen.
Currently I have just the regular old MacBook circa 2010.  I like it, although it is soooooo slow now like it literally takes 10 minutes to open up safari for the first time after shutting it down, not the mention the screen has started to go awry (which is all my fault, don't step on your macs because it does not end well).  I justt need an upgrade for next year.
I like that the air is light and has a super good battery, however I don't know if I like how slow it is.  I like the pro because its faster, comes in a 15" and is just all around more powerful, however I don't like the battery life quite so much and I don't know if the size would be the much of a big deal.  If anyone wants to suggest the 11" air, I'm just bonn stop you right here because that is not happening.
I'm kinda leaning toward the air, but every time I go to purchase it something inside me asks if that what I really want.
Alright so what are everybody's thought! Thank you!

I recommend you a Macbook Pro (preferably maxed out in the specs). I'm studying Mechanical Engineering and so far it has worked marvels for me. The Macbook pro is a little heavier than the MBA, however i feel that what you should really look for is performance and not merely things like weight (specially if its so little difference). As for the battery, I don't know in your college, but in my we have ALL around the campus TONS of power outlets, so that shouldn't matter. So yeah.. between MacBook Pro and MacBook aire definitively Macbook Pro
