Mac Book Pro Price Drop

Who thinks that when the 17" mac book pro comes out, the curent 15.4" will go down in price. I know that no one really knows, but what do you think?
If it is now $2299 (Canadian Dollars), what would you guess it would come down to?
Personally I don't thaink that it will come down considering that it came out at the same price as the 15" powerbook. but then again, the 17" powerbook came down from about $4000 to $3000.
Any Ideas?

I so far have had a terrible experience with Apple products. I switched from PCs to Macs. Even my Powerbook had a whine. Customer service is ridiculous. When I wanted to upgrade the hard drive, I had a horrid experience. No one knew how to get it done. Apple store guys here didn't even know that could be done. Let me not get started telling you about how arrogant these Apple folks are.
Upgrading anything is such a pain. Apple certainly doesn't believe in their customers' abilities or they know their products are not robust enough. You have to spend so much on getting upgrades done from these Apple techs who are supposed to be good at what they do. The Apple tech at Compusa where I took my Powerbook to, installed my hard drive and couldn't put it back well. The RAM was not properly put back, screws were switched all over. Oooff! Let me just stop before I get too annoyed and start cursing.

  • Mac Book Pro Casing

My Mac Book Pro was dropped at my 1 year olds birthday party. I told the guy who dropped it, no problem, I'll get it fixed. Thought it would be a few hundred bucks. Took it to the Apple Store. It's a Level 4 issue, $1,100. The laptop still works, but the casing around the display is cracked and it won't close properly or stay open. It either folds onto itself (like it would if it closed properly) or opens 180 degrees and lays flat. I have it hooked up to a monitor, but would like to find a cheaper way to get it fixed or find someone who would buy it for a decent price. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,

Thank you. Homeowners policy has a deductible higher than the cost of the repair through Apple. AppleCare doesn't cover accidental damage and AMEX doesn't either. And they shouldn't. It was "accidental".
The info is helpful, although I didn't see where the casing surrounding the display was able to be removed. I'm sure it can be, just didn't see it on that link.
The tech at the Apple Store said it was pretty easy to replace the casing, but the fact that the lap top was dropped, they need to do all sorts of testing to make sure there's nothing else wrong. When I told him I've been using this for 2 months with no issues, that didn't make a difference. They're covering their A$$'s, I get it, but seems crazy to spend $1,100 to repair a 2 year old lap top that's working properly. If you prop the display up on something, it's fine or like I said, connected to a monitor, keyboard and mouse.
    Anyway, thanks for the response,

  • Is $500 a good price for a 2007 15 inch Mac book pro?

Hi guys, first post so go easy on me!
I'm just curious if $500 is a good price for the 2007 Mac book pro. He tells me it is running Lion, it also includes a magic mouse. I just want to make sure I'm not walking into a bad deal.
    Thank you for your help!

"I just sent a message to the guy asking for those details. When I find out, I'll post here."
So some guy advertises a MacBook Pro 2007 with no information and you don't ask for details up front?

  • Since the price for mac book pro is much expensive than others for the same configuration, give me some reasons that why choose mac book pro?

I like Apple for both iPhone and iPad and I consider to buy a Mac book Pro recently. However, I haven't used mac book before. I have a alienware which is pretty good and I am much comfortable with it. I compared 2 laptops and I found for the same price, the configuration of alienware is much better than Mac book Pro.So why I need to buy the Mac book pro for a higher price? Don't tell me because it is Apple, tell me some details! For those of you who are familiar with mac book pro and loved apple deeply, please convince me!

I guess that really depends on what you would use it for, and how you use a computer.  Alienware is geared for gaming and intense graphics displays, but a MBP is designed for general to hardcore users, and in my opinion, for multimedia purposes.  One positive thing about Apple is that it works well with Apple hardware and software, and that it is user-friendly.  Sony is like this too, that it works well with with Sony products, but my experience with Sony is not as user-friendly.
For me, if I were into Windows based gaming I would go with Alienware.  If I wanted and used Windows based software and wanted a quality and long-lasting laptop, I would get a Sony.  (There was a study on laptops in 2010, founded that Sony laptops outlasted the other brands (HP and Acer were at the bottom).)
Apple is more well-rounded and functions smoother compare to PCs.  So, no pun intended, it's all apples and oranges.
If you are deciding which OS, you should based your decision on your needs, wants and functionality, and maybe long-term budget.
So for example, I'm not a computer gaming (that's what console gaming is for me).  I like to compose music with my guitar and keyboard, like editing home videos, I'm an newsletter editor for my non-profit and HOA, I do statistics, I surf the web and stream media, and I do photography as a hobby.  So for initial cost, ease of operations, quality, longevity, and total long-term cost, the MBP was my choice.  I had considered Dell, Sony and Alienware.  To me, Sony and Alienware was like buying a Cadillac, and Dell like a Buick.  So I decided on a Lincoln.  Apple best fit my lifestyle and long-term budgeting for computers.
FYI...Why I suggest long-term budgeting?  Is because over the last decade, I've been through three desktops and four laptops.  The Sony laptop outlasted them all with seven years, with only one hardware problem (two if you count the end).  The worst ones are tied between HP and Compaq.  Over the years my friends with Macs averaged seven to eight years of usage, so I estimated, I could have spent about the same or less by about $2,000 by buying two Macs: depending on configuration and models.
So there's my personal experience and opinion, of course.  I currently have a Linux (for testing), Windows (wife uses it for gaming), and MBP at home.

  • I dropped my mac book pro and the screen now has black and coloured lines in the corner. what is it and how can i fix it?

I dropped my mac book pro and the screen has now got a black rectangle and pink and green lines down it. What is it and how do i fix it?

Sounds like the display got damaged. Connect an external display and see if that's OK. If that's OK then the display is probably damaged. You can try reseating the LVDS connector but if that doesn't help the connections on the display body are very difficult to get to. Apple would just replace the entire display and that's what I would do as well.

  • Mac Book Pro 2010: dramatically dropped in performance.

    Hi,
I purchased my Mac book pro about 6 months ago and recently it has dropped dramatically in performance.
Here is a list of issues I’m having:
    - Takes ages to start up
    - Lags when typing
    - Lags when watching videos
    - programmes keep crashing: Photoshop, After Effects, word
    - When screen saver is on the screen flickers
    - When video clip is playing the screen flickers
    - Mouse sticks and freezes
    - Brightness dimmer randomly changes
    - Screen turns back on when brightness is turned off
    - Windows through boot camp runs even slower.
And recently I have discovered in my activity monitor that quite a lot of my processes randomly jumps from 0.4 CPU usage to about 20.0. This happens to several processes like dashboard even though I have nothing on there.
    My laptop stats are:
    2.53 GHz Intel Core i5
    4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    500GB hard drive
Any help will be extremely appreciated, Thank you!

I would start by repairing disk permissions in Disk Utility. If you still have bad performance after that, do a PRAM reset (hold down CMD-OPT-P-R while Mac boots up). If you still have trouble after that, download a free program called Onyx and use it to rebuild your system caches. There's a very good chance this will fix your issues.

  • When editing 1080p video in photoshop the frame rate is significantly dropping, I do have mac book pro 2.8Ghz 16GB Ram. Any reason why?

I am trying to edit video from my DSLR and when the footage is downloaded, just converting it to smart object causes dropping frame rate; not saying with couple of adjustment layers. I bought the highest spec mac book pro laptop and was told it should cope perfectly. Any advise?

  • 'Optical out' audio drop out on Mac Book Pro

    This is driving me INSANE!
First of all I'll give you my mac book pro details:
    Mid/late 2010 MBP 2.66 i7 with 8GB RAM, on snow leopard 10.6.8
Here's the problem. Basically, my audio keeps dropping out. Upon a bit of research I can see the output device is switching from 'internal speakers - built in' to 'digital out - optical digital-out port'. I didn't even know my mac book pro had an optical digital output, as it doesn't appear there is one. However there's a red light that goes off and on, or sometimes flashes, more or less in unison with the drop outs and the switching of the output device. This also shows as when I try to adjust the volume, it doesn't let me and shows the sign with a line through it, as if I was using an external soundcard. It is incredibly frustrating as I can't do simple things such as watch a youtube video or play music on itunes.
Sometimes if I go from not using my mac, e.g. over night, then open it up and play itunes it will be fine. However when I open safari and start browsing or playing things via youtube the problem does seem to get worst. It also seems to cause my mac to freeze up a bit, I'm guessing as it's trying to switch devices.
I don't really know what to do, searching online hasn't really yielded anything useful.
    Thanks, Christian.

    Nobody ?

  • I have a late 2008 Mac Book Pro and would like to upgrade to 8G, any suggestions on a brand?  I can only find Ramjet or Cruical for the upgrade and there is a $30 difference in price.

I ahve a late 2008 Mac Book Pro and would like to upgrade the memory to 8g.  I can only find 2 options Crucial and Ramjet.  There is a $40 difference in the cost.  Does anyone know if one is better than the other?

I have gotten my RAM from either Crucial or Macsales. They are both excellent.

  • This may qualify as inept problem of the year. Opened a tube of crazy glue about two feet away from open mac book pro and it exploded about two drop of glue on my screen. What to do?

This may qualify as inept problem of the year. Opened tube of crazy glue with a pin down the nozzle and the interior pressure squirted two tiny shots of glue onto screen. I was two or so feet away from Mac Book Pro. Tried to remove them quickly but of course that only left behind two smudges. Any ideas?

Take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.  Will be cheaper than paying for a new screen if you scratch or tear it using a razor blade.

  • Help with purchasing new Mac Book Pro- 2014 release vs. 2013?

OK, so my 15" 2008 Mac Book Pro is on its last gasp--didn't help when I dropped it while open (I can now see into its innards though it's still working...sort of).
I'm not a technophile (mainly use my laptop for writing--my profession--and eBay business) so my sister told me to make sure that I had at least 8 GB and a fast processing speed. Retina display not necessary (her graphic artists friends hate it apparently) so that would lower the price; however it seems that there are two releases: Oct 2013 and July 2014.  Read up on the latest release but not sure how much is necessary for to have...or care about.
Can you all weigh in and tell me (a) how important it is to have "the latest and greatest" and (b) how necessary is Retina display and (c) which would YOU purchase if you had my budget constraints.  Thanks!
Anyway, I've narrowed down my choices of MacBook Pro purchases to what was within my budget: $1300 including tax.  I wanted a 15" but it was too much $$$$, plus I can just use an external monitor.
Both are available at Apple. Both come with 1 year and 3-year extended warranties and both have the standard software installed, including Pages.
One more thing....Wondering if having Flash Storage is important?  Only refurbished one (see below) has it.
Prices for both end up being almost the same--around $1250 out the door, including tax.
OPTION #1  NEW LAPTOP. July 2014 Release   NON RETINA DISPLAY
2.5GHz Dual-core Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz
    4GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM — 2x2GB - NOTE: I WOULD HAVE THIS UPGRADED TO 8 MG
    500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
    SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
Backlit Keyboard (English) & User's Guide
    Accessory Kit
OPTION #2   REFURBISHED  -Oct. 14 Release - RETINA DISPLAY
13.3-inch (diagonal) Retina display; 2560-by-1600 resolution at 227 pixels per inch
    8GB of 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
    256GB Flash Storage1
    720p FaceTime HD camera
    Intel Iris Graphics

Hmm... I'm not really sure where you found a July 2014 release without a retina display. I think it might be the old version because that laptop was last updated in 2012 (to my understanding. Also, your sister is kind of wrong, if you want a computer that will work well for everyday things, 4gb of ram is just fine. I have a three year old MacBook Air with 4gb of ram and do things in Photoshop, Illustrator, Pixelmator, FCP, etc. all the time running OS X Yosemite and it runs like brand new. However, if you want to future proof it, you might want 8gb so it can always run the latest OSes.
Flash Storage is amazingly fast compared to a Hard Drive. It also has no moving parts, therefore is much more durable, and much more likely to survive a drop than a Hard Drive (which would seem to be useful in your situation).
Also, I don't know why your sister's friends would hate the Retina display. Many people love it because it gives them the ability to edit pixel by pixel with perfect accuracy.
I would go for the Retina display. It has better specs for the same price so why not? Not to mention that it's much faster and will likely receive updates much longer than the new MacBook Pro without Retina display.
    I hope I helped.

  • Bought my Mac book pro 18 hours ago!!!!!

    Hi guys
Got my Mac Book Pro last night just before they closed - then this morning noticed that my 2Ghz model has been upgraded to a 2.16GHz!!!!!
    What should I do?

there's no restock fee witn in 14 days or purchase. if you ordered 2.0 and its replaced by 2.16 (as the default for that model) and has NOT shipped yet they will auto up it to the replacement model - they did ti with my 1.83 ordered on the 10th, swapped for a 2.0 since it was replaced and hadn't shipped yet. Call to make sure, just in case.
was there only a price drop on the 1.83(now 2.0 model) or all dropped slightly? If there is they will credit the change also. Apple wont ship a model that was discontinued, it will be pushed to the replacement if order is open (not shipped, but placed).
I just got off with them from calling me to inform me of the price change on my mbp and the swap for a 2.0.
