Mac book pro turned off by itself
Hi, my mac book pro turned off by itself when I try to open iphoto or VLC and it restart automatically.
OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.5
Have you tried a SMC Reset?

Mac book pro,
Turns off and goes under protection, sometimes without any specific motivation, but most of the time when an External monitor is pluged-in.
I use it when I work with final cut pro, and this problem it's becoming huge and changing my workplans....
It can turns off also 10 times in two hours.
In many forums I read that the CPU temp could be the problem, but I've checked it and It's always around 62°-68°....
In some others they say that the new RAM could be the problem too.
Is anybody able to help me? (Underneath you can check the Panic Report and my mac informations)
Thank you so much.
Antonio

Hello,
My Mac Book Pro turns off without reason. It hypernates. At first I thought it was the battery but It is not that. It says it has 2:30 left, but to turn it on I need to plug in the adapter. It does that for 2 days now.
Thank you in advance,
ChrystallaThe battery has an integrated microchip that acts as a "fuel gauge." Calibration resets this gauge, which allows the OS to better determine times to charge and discharge the battery. Calibration should be done approximately every two months. Failure to do so for a long period of time can result in the microchip "fuel gauge" in the battery losing the ability to accurately determine the remaining charge, and it will report that there is more charge in the battery than is actually present. As a result, the computer will not initiate Safe Sleep at the proper time, and instead undergo a hard shut down, one of the main causes of hard drive directory damage.

It suddenly stops working and turns off without my will !! after that turns on and sometimes freezes with the white screen with apple logo!! I run hardware test and it found no. 4/mem4/40000000jgpa.:oxbd644c10 and 4/mem4/40000000jgpa.:1c7688cc !! It;s a big problem and I am going to get at least a new one..I can't take it this repaired .I paid about 3400 usd and i am extremely dissapointed!!
With the right approach, you may still be able to have your MacBook Pro designated as Dead On Arrival (DOA). Otherwise, consider doing some basic repair steps as listed below. From my previous post:
Repairing Permissions and/or Resetting the Power Management Unit (PMU) is known to resolve certain anomalies or conditions, and may help with your symptom. Neither process will compromise or harm anything with your Mac so it’s worth a shot.
Repair Permissions:
Go to: Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility
Select: your Hard Drive
Select: the First Aid tab
Select: Repair Permissions
Resetting the Power Management Unit (PMU)
If the computer is on, turn it off.
Disconnect the AC Adapter and remove the computer's battery.
Press and hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then release the button.
Reconnect the battery and AC Adapter.
Press the Power button to restart the computer.

WHY DOES MY MAC BOOK PRO SHUT OFF ON ME? SO FAR THE INFO I GOT 4 IT IS A MAC OS X VERSION 10.7.3 THE PROCESSOR IS 2.4 GHZ INTEL CORE 2 DUO MEMORY IS 2 GB 667MHZ DDR2 SDRAM I DON'T KNOW HOW OLD IT IS BECAUSE I BOUGHT IT USED SORRY I HOPE THIS HELPS THANK YOU
Sounds to me like you may have gotten a machine with hardware issues, but it's hard to say. It will shut down if it gets too hot, but that's not a normal occurrence. I have never seen a MacBook Pro shut down due to heat, even after lengthy 3D gaming sessions where the fans are running fast and the bottom of the machine is unpleasant to touch.
First thing I would try to do is reset the SMC. If that doesn't help, erase the hard drive and reinstall the system from scratch, which you should always do with a used machine anyway.
If a fresh system doesn't help, you'll need to get it checked out by Apple.
Edit: Oh, and sig is absolutely right... please don't post in all caps! It's very irritating. -
I have been noticed that several times a week at the same time (0.00 h) my mac book pro turn on alone. What Can I do to fix this issue ? Thanks in advance
Open system preferences and go to the Energy Saver section then click on the Schedule button, bottom right hand side of that window, and see if you have "Start up or wake" option checked.

Not much to work with here...
How about more info so a diagnosis and help can be formulated? Mac model (size), RAM, OS version, age, battery status? What are you doing when it happens? How often? And if you want to be really abundant, pertinent logfiles? -
Mac Book Pro switches off when you open Safari!
Hi people.
I am new Mac Book Pro user, have had it for a few months now and all is good, however I have an issue and that is that everytime I open safari and open a new tab the machine switches off! To turn it back on I need to wait for 30 seconds or so and then power it on. An error report is shown upon login and it happens again when safari opens.
Any ideas??Take it to an Apple store or AASP.

OS X 10.9.2 Mavericks
Behavior of power button is changed.
If the power button is tapped and held for 1second, the computer goes to sleep.
Hold the power button for 5 seconds or more, the Mac shuts down.

JoseHi ..
The startup disk may need repairing ...
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utillities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If DU reports errors, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you should be able to acces the built in utilities in OS X Recovery
Make sure to back up all important files first before using OS X Recovery.
Make sure there's enough free storage space ...
Control click the MacintoshHD icon on your desktop or open the Finder, control click startup disk icon then click Get Info.
You'll see Available and Capacity. Make sure there's at least 15% available disk space. -
Mac book Pro shutting down by itself
More than once when I have closed the lid to my mac book pro it shut itself down and rebooted for no reason. All I would have open is firefox or safari and when I get back I get the log in window asking for my password. I have it set to never go to sleep so I have no idea what is causing it to do this.
I have it set to never go to sleep
The Energy Saver preference pane settings only apply to time with the lid open. Regardless, it will go to sleep when you close the lid, unless you have deactivated that via Terminal commands or 3rd party hacks.
and when I get back I get the log in window asking for my password
Are you sure it reboots? If you close the lid, go away, then come back and it asks for your login password, maybe in System Preferences > Security the require password to wake from sleep is checked... -
