Mac book pro won't start after latest osx update

Just keeps re-booting showing progress bar. After recent java/iTunes update the Mac book pro restarted and wouldn't shut down. So I powered it down. Anybody that could tell me how to roll back to latest successful startup?
Thanks

  • The Sims Game won't start after latest OSX update?

    Hello
Ive tried so many things but my problem just don't get fixed!
Yesterday I updated my MacBook Air with the new OSX 10.8.4 Update, since then my Sims 3 is not working no more!
I tried a lot of things from the view that Sims was the Problem, but since this Problem accured just after I updated my Mac System, I figured it has to do something with the new Apple Update!
When I start my Sims all I see is a Black Screen, It wont react unless I end with cmd/esc.
I tried a lot of things and it just won't help anything.
I reinstalled the Sims and it just doesnt show any process.
I would be so glad, if sb. could help me and know why my Sims Game is acting up so much, since the new Mac OSX update.
Maybe the Sims and the new Update is not compatible with each other?
Somebody help me please! Thank you very much!!!

Boot into the Safe Mode and try to open it.
Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application unistaller. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • My Mac Book Pro wouldn't start after memory update

I updated my 27" Imac memory up to 16 GB, so I was encouraged to do the same with my Mac Book Pro after watching the video and instructions. However My Mac Book Pro wouldn't start afterwards. It is driving me crazy. Please if someone can help me on this. Thanks

I was trying to install Corsair 8GB (2x 4GB) 1333mhz PC3-10666 204-pin DDR3 SODIMM Laptop Memory Kit CMSO8GX3M2A1333C9; and now I realized that I made a mistake because this Mid 2010 Mac Book Pro uses 1066mhz PC3 8500 instead, so should that be the problem of compatibility? I should guess so, although in my HP Elite I have 800Mhz ddr2 where the bus works at 640 mhz ddr2.
The rest is the same being 204 pin memory cards, etc.
I made this mistake because ordered at the same time this memory along with memory cards for my new 27" iMac, which works at 1333Mhz.
Thankyou again, I will check on if cards are sitting well and if they are PC3 8500 1066 Mhz....

  • ITunes won't open after latest OSX update

AFter latest OSX update iTunes won't open.  Reinstalled iTunes.  Reinstalled OSX update.  When I click on icon in applications or in finder nothing happens.

This is what worked for me and others--original post found on this thread: Yosemite slow opening and cannot open itunes
This solved my question by Linc Davis.......
According to multiple reports on this site, Apple Support has given the following instructions to others who had a similar problem. I can't confirm that this procedure works or that it's necessary, but it won't leave you any worse off than you are now.
    First, back up all data.
Select the iTunes icon in the Applications folder and open the Info window. Click the padlock icon in the lower right corner to unlock the settings.
In the Sharing & Permissions section, change the Privilege setting for each Name in the list to Read & Write. Close the window. If the settings aren't visible, click the disclosure triangle on the left so that it points down.
You should now be able to drag the iTunes application to the Trash and empty. Your iTunes data won't be affected.
Click the iTunes link at the top of this page, download the installer package and run it.
If iTunes still doesn't launch, or if you can't complete the procedure, reinstall the OS.

  • Mac Book Pro won't restart after GPU Panic

I have a 2010 Mac Book Pro with a known issue of GPU Panics, especially following Mavericks installation.
Have been limping along with band aid solutions until I can get a new computer, but today, following a panic, the laptop won't restart.
I press the start button, get the usual startup sound, get gray screen with Apple logo, gray spinning pinwheel for about 2 minutes, and the screen goes totally black. Machine still seems to be on, makes quiet noise.
Any ideas on how I can get it to restart?

    Katharine,
since you currently have Mavericks installed, you can try this: boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Does it reach the login screen now? (Your screen going totally black is probably due to the GPU problem.)

  • Mac Book Pro won't start from hard drive when turned on

I have a new 15 in Mac Book Pro with 10.8.1. When I turn it on it always boots to the disk utilities rather than my harddrive. I select my startup disk and reboot. It starts fine. But when I shut it off the same sequence repeats. I have verified my drive and selected the hard drive as my startup disk.

  • Mac Pro Won't Start After Installing Security Update Tonight

I just installed the latest security update for Lion on my Mac Pro via software update. The update seemed to install fine. I was about to start work when all of a sudden the system rebooted on its own. Now it just continues to reboot because it can't complete the boot up.
I tried resetting PRAM and SMC, but this didn't help.
I tried booting up from CD using an old SNL disk. I was able to get to disk tools once. I checked my startup volume and disk tools said the volumes is fine. I was checking permissions when once again the system rebooted on its own.
I tried starting up in safe mode, but it only gets so far into the boot process before it reboots.
I tried starting in verbose mode, and noticed several SMC related errors (this is why I tried to reset the SMC). No joy.
If I leave the system sit a few minutes, it gets further into the boot process, but still won't boot completely.
    Any suggestions?

  • Mac Book Pro won't start

My mac won't start. Even when I start with option and click recovery hd a grey screen with apple logo comes and nothing else. I started in single user mode and checked that disk is ok. Still not starting up. It happened after sudden slowing down of mac

Then your drive is OK, but you no longer have a partitioned volume. Do this:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
    1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

  • Mac Book Pro won't start up.

My friend's Macbook pro (probably 2011) hasn't been used for a month. When he turned it on, it got stuck on the gray screen with the logo and spinning wheel. I have tried doing all of the solutions that relate to this problem except for re dowloading the OS, which I can't do because the disk reader is broken.
It has been on the start up screen for more than an hour and does not seem to be doing anything
also, after force-shutting it down...when I restart it, there is a loading bar that dissappears after about 5 seconds. It doesn't fill up.
there is nothing attatched to it, so there shouldn't be any problem with the peripherals.
When running the safeboot, it says that there is a runtime corruption. I refuse to take the computer to the applestore because it is past the two year warrantee....

The fact the DVD drive is broken says there are greater problems.  Bring it in for service.
