Mac Book Start Issue

My Mac Book no longer turns on, all I get is a blue screen and a folder appears on the screen with a question mark in it. Any ideas?

Try booting from your install disk by holding the C key down. Then when you get to the screen with a menu bar open Disk Utility and use it to repair permissions.
Your hard drive may have failed. You could also boot from your install disk while holding the D key down and run diagnostics on your MacBook.

My Mac Book Pro will no longer power up. What is the likely problem?

    Hello there Radar47,
If your MacBook Pro is still not turning on, I would recommend you use the troubleshooting information in the following article to help isolate and hopefully resolve the issue here, named:
Troubleshooting: My computer won't turn on
If your computer won't turn on, try each of these steps:
Verify you have a good connection from your Mac to the wall outlet by confirming the power cord and adapter if present are securely connected and plugged in. To check if the wall outlet is working, plug in a lamp or other electrical device.
If the wall outlet is working and you continue to have no power try another power cord or adapter if available. If it works you may need a replacement cord or adapter.
Note: See Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters for further troubleshooting with MagSafe adapters.
Disconnect all accessories that are plugged in to the computer, such as a printer, hub, or other mobile device.
If your Mac supports user-installable memory, solid state drive, or hard drive, and you recently installed any of these, make sure they are installed correctly and are compatible with your computer. If possible, reinstall the original memory or drive into the computer to find out if the behavior persists afterwards.

If you are still unable to start up your computer after trying each of these steps, visit an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for further diagnosis. • Mac book starts to boot, then turns off

I have Mac Book Pro (13", Yr2011) which will not boot.    It has a 1TB HD which has been partitioned for Mt Lion (primary) and Snow Leopard.  The computer has worked fine in this configuration.    For about 6 wks, the computer was not used and apparently the battery charge depleted to zero.    When an attempt was made to use the computer with battery only, the screen was just light gray with a circular wait icon.    After several minutes with no change, the battery was noted to be discharged.   A charger was connected, but there was no change in the screen.   The computer was then turned off and left to fully charge.   On first attempt to turn on, the computer did come to life.   However, when attempting to Update software, it displayed No Internect connection - even though it was connected by ethernet.     The computer was power cycled, however the screen then again only showed light gray with wait icon.    Now when attempting to boot, the screen shows light gray, circular wait icon & horizontal bar graph indicating something is loading.   After about several minutes, the bar graph fills & disappears, however, the screen remains light gray with wait icon - indefinitely.    On a few attempts, the computer and screen simply turned off after about 30secs.
If I hold the Option key while powering on, then the Mac does boot ok to Snow Leopard.   Apparently, the Mt Lion side of the HD was corrupted during the low battery boot appempt.   The last time I backup MtLion was several months ago, so if I prefer not to reformat and reload from scratch.
Since the Mac did boot up once, I'm wondering if there is a way to recover without having to reformat and start again.
    Don

Tough without the Install disc, but some things to try...
Does it boot to Single User Mode, CMD+s keys at bootup, if so try...
    /sbin/fsck -fy
Repeat until it shows no errors fixed.
(Space between fsck AND -fy important).

  • Mac book pro issue?

I've had issues with my Mac book pro that is about 3-4 years old. When I have ap age open and am scrolling down it wants to all on it's own go to the previous page when i have never clicked the back button. The other thing is I may have a couple of pages open and all of a suden one page will have this colored light thta is a round circle almost showing like it is loading the page and it sometimes freezes up. I always making sure my computer is up to date as far as software updates go but still has been acting up. I did once see on this computer it has like a virus blocker which is in the off position but I thought that apples can't get virus correct?? I'm just lost I don't know it can or does it have a virus or what.
Can someone please tell me what can I do to get these little weird qurks to stop happening??
    Thanks
    Chris

if i go to the top left hand corner and click the apple and go to system Preference ten I click on security it will say firewall on or off so I assume this is what protects the computer??
I know it's werid as ****, when i have a window up and I am scrolling up and down the page with the bar to the right of the page all of a sudden it is like some clicked the back button to go to the prvious page and I have never even clicked it.
The other thing is like when I click safari to load the page my curser instead of having the little arrow it will be a round abject with different colors likes it is trying to load the page but the page is wanting to freeze up and the curser doesn't move as freely as it normally should. Seems like this is getting worse seeing this. I don't know if this is do to the internet connection maybe??
    Thanks

  • Hello... mac book warranty issue

    Hello,
I'm not sure whether i'm posting in the right page... hoping to get a response. I'd purchased a mac book pro 4 months ago in UAE. I reside in UAE as well. I got the 1 year international warranty with it but did not take the local warranty. My laptop has got damaged. I went to the apple care store and they told me my laptop is not under warranty. I'm assuming they are looking for a local warranty which i don't have. But my question is can they not fix my laptop under the international warranty that i have or will it only work if my laptop was damaged in any other country and had to be fixed there?
    Thank you.

I would return to the store with your warranty documentation. No one here can speak for Apple as we are users just like you.

  • Mac book starts up well, but without screen

    HI guys!
today i restarted my Macbook pro-Lion, after starting up, i have no screen, even no gray screen or nothing els. However, my keyboard works; lightening, sound control or other keys are working properly. I can control the volume, and also control of keyboard lightening is available. when i close my Laptop, it will be hibernated without any problem, but i can See nothing on my screen! (Notice that gray screen at start up DOESN'T appear)
I tried following steps, but without any result:
    COmmand+option+P+R
    SHift+control+option
    d

The symptoms suggest that your MBP has an issue with the GPU, display or display connection. If you have an external  monitor to connect to your MBP and it works properly, then it is the display or the connection to the display that is faulty.  If the monitor is also black, then it is the GPU that is the problem.
Foe a definitive analysis, an appointment at an Apple store genius bar is a good option.  The evaluation will be FREE.
    Ciao.

  • Mac Book Pro Issues

    w,Hey there!
This is pretty Random, Im hoping someone can help me.
My mac is abouuutttt 3 years old... its had a good long life and up until 2 weeks ago was working perfectly.
My charger died about 2 weeks ago, I ordered one online and it arrived all good. Ever since I've plugged it back in my computer has sooooooo many issues that its never had before. First thing is its now saying the battery needs replacing. Now, i totally get that its old, i used to work in an apple store and have always been really really good about not leaving it plugged in etc so it doesn't die, before my charger broke it was getting at least 4-6 hours charge still. Now its barely making 2, and once i get to about 30% it just turns off. Not runs out of battery the computer just turns itself off. Because i can then go and turn it back on without plugging it in.
The second issue is that the date keeps going back to january 1994. It has NEVER done this before charger died, not once. Now every single time my computer turns back on i have to  try and change the date and time back to today, Which is all well and good but System Preferences doesn't seem to want to open any more either... now i figure this is something to do with the date/time being all screwy but NO IDEA how to get it to stop doing this.
The third problem is the mouse pad thingie (can't remember what its called... Trackpad?) doesn't seem to click either.
As i said i get that its an old computer, But all ways been well looked after as i used to work for mac and as i said the day the charger stopped working is when i had all these issues. Can someone please help? Thank you!

Sooo If i just get the battery replaced then all the other issues will stop. Including the time date thing?

  • Mac book starts up but is really really slow!

Takes forever to start and is basically unusable?

I still need to know what OS X version it's running. It's printed under the big X icon in About This Mac. If you can't get it to respond please restart your Mac in "Safe Mode":
Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
You must disable FileVault before you can start your Mac in Safe Mode.
Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
Merely starting your Mac in Safe Mode is not intended to resolve the problem, it's to observe its performance without certain additional components.
To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.

  • Ical iphone & mac book pro issues

    Hi there,
I'm running a iPhone 4S with iOS 7.1.2 and Macbook Pro with Mavericks. I recently had to do a full restore on my phone and since then I'm having trouble syncing events between the two devices on iCal. I moved time zones recently too so that might be part of the issue. I changed the time zone to the correct one in iCloud and on my Macbook itself as well on the iPhone though for the last two I'm not sure if there are special iCal settings relating to that. I kept noticing a one hour difference between events on my phone and Mac so I experimented a bit with the time zone support category in iCal advanced settings on my Mac and on my iPhone but now it seems like if I post a new event on my Mac it simply appears as a blank new event on my phone and at the wrong time. If I post an event on my iPhone it will appear at the correct time on my Mac. I'm also noticing some of my events on my Mac stating the time zone while others are not. I scanned the forums but didn't find a solution yet so I hope these details help and that it's a quick fix. I'm not sure if I have to connect my iPhone to my Mac via USB and change some setting in iTunes. Help would be much appreciated! Thanks

I have no idea but for some reason it now seems to be fine. I didn't change anything at all so I'm not sure about the solution or what the problem was in the first place.

  • Mac book start up failure

when the mac comes on it loads as normal then just stays on the white background with the apple sign and the spinning icon?

Brownie, I would first try a safe boot. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564
If that doesn't solve it them I would restart to your recovery partition by holding Command-R at startup and running Disk Utility to repair the drive.

  • Mac Book starts but screen is black

It is fully charged, it turns on but I can't see anything cause screen is black, any advise? Thanks

Is it a pre-unibody MBP from late 2007 to early 2008? If so, it might have this problem:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377?viewlocale=en_US
If so, it will be repaired at no cost to you. Apple has a special test they run to diagnose this problem, so be sure to have it run.
    Good luck!
