Mac Book won't restart
I was using my mac book when all of a sudden a screen came on and it said I needed to reboot my mac book. After holding the power button to cut off the macbook. I hit it again and the light came on and the cd drive made some noise but that was it. The screen didn't power on and it never made the start up noise. The battery is charged and I tried taking it out and putting it back in again but still same thing. I tired plugging it to the adapter and resetting the SCM and PRAM.... nothing. Please help I need my mac book for work!!!
Put your hard drive from the MacBook in an external case and move the files to the newer MacBook. Then erase the drive and install your OS again.
Here's a cheap SATA external hard drive case on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Vantec-NexStar-2-5-Inch-External-Enclosure/dp/B002JQNXZC/r ef=pd_cp_pc_0

Thunderbolt Bus:I have exactly the same problem. The computer keeps restarting, with exactly the same Kernel Panic. I also tried that application to toggle the graphic cards, no difference. The only difference is that this was rare in Mavericks. In Yosemite it's 2 or 3 times a day.
Sometimes is crashes right after restarting. I'm looking at the desktop as it appears, and it crashes again in front of me. It's ridiculous. I never saw anything like this, not even in a Windows machine (and I used them for 20+ years).
So that means we have a defunct machine? Apple allows this to happen? We have a faulty machine and we have no option but to live with the constant crashes, or go back to OSX Lion? That's ridiculous!
Can't Apple just make a software update to deal with this?? I don't want to go back to the stone age!

Why does my Mac Book pro keep restarting
why does my Mac Book pro keep restarting and how can it be fixed
It would be nice if you could include a kernel panic log to verify that your problem is...
Mid-2010 15" MacBook Pros - the bad NVIDIA GPU
If you're having frequent kernel panics with your 15" mid-2010, or intermittent screen problems, the problem is, more than likely, the faulty NVIDIA GPU found in a number of those machines.
Here's just a sample of a kernel panic log that points to the faulty NVIDIA card:
Kernel Extensions in backtrace (with dependencies):
com.apple.GeForce(6.4.0)@0x82ac4000->0x82b7afff
dependency: com.apple.NVDAResman(6.4.0)@0x834a0000
dependency: com.apple.iokit.IONDRVSupport(2.2.1)@0x82fd3000
dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.6.5)@0x7a802000
dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(2.2.1)@0x8301b000
com.apple.nvidia.nv50hal(6.4.0)@0x83c05000->0x84019fff
dependency: com.apple.NVDAResman(6.4.0)@0x834a0000
com.apple.NVDAResman(6.4.0)@0x834a0000->0x8378dfff
dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.6.5)@0x7a802000
dependency: com.apple.iokit.IONDRVSupport(2.2.1)@0x82fd3000
dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(2.2.1)@0x8301b000
Here's the "official" Apple take on the issue - but the very real kernel panics need not be preceded by 'Intermittent black screen or loss of video'... in fact, you might not experience any video problems at all. Although video problems can certainly be a portent of things to come…
So what can you do? Print out a copy of your kernel panic and a copy of the Knowledge Base article and take them, along with your machine, to your local Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. The unfortunate thing is that many people have passed the “three years from date of purchase” now and Apple is not honoring the free logic board replacement for many users. Some dealers seem to be making some exceptions for those past the three year mark, but don’t count on it…
Good luck,

Mac pro won't restart after replacing backplane
Mac pro won't restart after replacing backplane. I tried resetting PRAM, no luck. The grey screen with apple logo and spinning wheel shows up and the wheel continues to spin.
What did you modify 'under the hood'?

My 5 year old Mac book won't turn on. It seems to be holding a charge. In the past 3 months I've replaced the power source, battery, & had a full diagnostic run on it.
Tanks dominic23, do you think that the dead battery can affect the macbook performance? I do alot of video work, and since the battery died i cannot do a smooth preview of my videos in premiere cs6, seems like a memory problem but it worked fine before the battery issue.

Changed from DSL to cable modem. Now Mac book pro won't connect to wifi - Time Machine?
One Mac ok, other not. Help? Thanks. We have been using an existing Time Machine for wifi. Cable modem replaced DSL router and was hooked up to Time Machine. What's odd is that 3 computers and iPad2 are connecting to home wifi just fine, using exact same network and password as before. My Mac book pro and an older iPad are not. IPhones are also connecting to home wifi just fine. I managed to get my Mac book pro hooked one time by copying ip address from a Mac that was working (entered manually) then turning that one off. That's not what I need.
The error message is "no ip address". -
My Mac book pro makes start up noise, then goes to apple screen and thinking icon but won't go any further! Help
Well first order of buisness to make yourself a Snow Leopard Recovery Drive (or Lion) and get your files off the machine.
Then once you do that you can choose one of the restore options, like a simple overwrite of OS X, or a erase and install.
You can also perform some disk repairs, but you should concentrate on getting your files off first, everything else can be replaced but that.

We have a late 2008 Mac Pro that won't restart from the Apple menu, nor are we able to reset the PRAM with the keyboard. The computer will almost shut down, but hang right at the end, making the DVD drives click on and off.
We have tried the following to remedy the situation:
Run Disk Warrior, repair permissions, tried two other keyboards, start from a different system drive, start and restart from a new user account, disconnect each DVD burner separately, disconnect both DVD drives simultaneously, re-install (archive and install) the 10.5, install 10.5 on a fresh hard drive that has been zeroed out with Disk Utility.
We have removed and reseated all the RAM.
We have also unplugged the all cables and hard drives and removed the battery for 20 minutes to try to reset the PRAM.
We've used another Mac Pro and Target Disk Mode to run Disk Warrior on all the drives.
Other weirdness: the option key won't work on start-up.
The computer will shut down normally and start normally, but won't Restart from the Apple Menu.
2 x 2.66 Dual Core Xeon
16 GB RAM
4 - 500 GB Seagate Barracuda drives
High Point RocketRAID 2322 SATA RAID - disconnected for the time being.
I'm struggling to think of other things to try and uneasy about using the machine until it works properly.
Thanks,
DavidHi, I have the same problem.
Ever sonce day 1 when I first restarted the mac It did not work. The mac pro was delivered with 3 GB of ram. (2x512 and 2x1GB apple ceriefied).
So My question. Would it be able to restart when I pair the rams up?
I also purchased 4x2GB) OWC ram.
Curently the setup on the risers is:
A) 2x512MB | 2x2GB
B) 2x1GB | 2x2GB
(667MHz)
What would be the idael setup for it (lot of Final cut studio work)?
I would realy like to get this problem fixed since installing programs on mac is very annoying when they ask to restart the mac and give no option to shutdown manually.
I could not return it then because I needed it a few days after to start a documentery project (MP arrived 3 months late after the first fell down of a truck or somthing during shipping.
Thanx in advance for you response

IPad, iPhone, and Mac book won't connect to wifi
My ipad (6.1.3), my Mac book (10.6.8), and my iPhone 4(6.1.3) won't connect to home wifi even though all of them did on Sunday night (2 days ago). I have tried forgetting network and reconnecting but didn't work. I have tried to reset network settings on my devices but didn't work. The only thing that works so far is rebooting the router but that's feasible or fair to the other people (who are not apple users) in the house. Everyone else's laptops, tablets, phones, and play station can connect and stay connected. All of my devices can see the network but connection times out. Please help!
Hey CompeauC,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities! I can definitely understand the frustration, and there are some troubleshooting steps that don't necessarily necessitate rebooting the router. I found a couple of articles that should be able to assist you in resolving the issue, one for your Mac and the other for your two iOS devices:
Troubleshooting Wi-Fi issues in OS X Lion and Mac OS X v10.6

iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections

My mac book won't connect to any networks.
My mac book 7,1 won't connect to any networks (wireless connection) . It says "ALERT NO INTERNET CONNECTION" . The configuration IPv4 is on: Using DHCP. So, I don't understand why it's telling me this, and how i can fix it.
What do the Apple OS X network diagnostics report:
> System Preferences > Network > Assist Me... > Diagnostics ...
about your network connection?
Do the networking problems here also effect connections via a wired network?
Have you tried a different wireless network? Does connecting at a library, café or Apple store work?
I'm going to assume that you're not running OS X Server 10.6 on this MacBook — that would be unusual — and that you're probably running the client version of OS X 10.6, and are here in this forum because you saw the 10.6 in the forum title. If I'm wrong here, there can potentially be other triggers for the network outage. OS X Server management is rather different from whe OS X that Apple installs on a MacBook. -
Mac book won't go past the start up screen.
So my mac book pro will not go past the loading screen where you see the apple symbol and the rotating gear thing. is there anything i can do to fix this or restart my OS?
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570 For the part that it says to startup by your disc and run disk utility, if you're running 10.7 or 10.8 you'll actually bootup holding down Command and R on startup. Hope this helps

Mac Book won't recognize new drive
I have a Mac Pro 2.66 with 5 gig of RAM. I just purchased a 500 gig SATA 3 Seagate Barracuda from Newegg. When I install it my Mac Pro won't start at all. I get the "no" sign. I followed the directions and I checked the specifications and I thought this would work. I have plugged it in to ports 2. 3. and 4 with the same results. What am I doing wrong.
thanks
joedokesSo your regular boot drive is in bay 1, and you have tried the new one in 2 3 and 4?
Does it still boot up OK if you take the new drive out altogether or has something gone sick on your boot drive?
One of the standard things for hardware changes is resetting the PRAM, (restart holding apple, alt, P and R keys, hold keys down till after the third chime) but I have never had to do that when putting a new hard drive in. I would try this but wonder if the new drive is faulty. -
My Mac book is stuck on the start loading screen
You have a serious problem with that drive. You could try running DiskWarrior on it, but if that doesn't work, you will need to reformat the drive. I hope you had it backed up!
