Mac cannot connect to Canon MF4800 Printer

I recently purchased a 13" MacBook Pro and attempted to print on a Canon MF4800 printer.  The Mac recognizes the wireless printer and then printing progress is saying printer not responding. The below is the details on the printer.

The queue information is corrrect for the v10.1.0 driver, so not sure what is causing your symptom.
To rule out a network issue, I suggest you connect the MF48xx to the USB port on the MBPro, create a new print queue and see if this prints. If it has the same result then at least it rules out it being a network issue and something to do with the UFR2 driver.
For this new MBPro, did you migrate data from another Mac? And was this previous Mac printing okay to the same MF48xx series via the wireless network?

  • Windows Cannot Connect to Canon MP530 Printer via AEBSn

OK, here's my setup, and my problem:
    1. Mac mini, Windows Vista PC, Windows XP PC all connected to an AEBSn via Ethernet.
    2. Bonjour for Windows installed on both PCs.
    3. Ministack w/built-in powered USB2.0 Hub & Internal HDD connected to AEBSn's USB port.
    3. External HDD in USB 2.0 enclosure attached to Ministack via USB port.
    4. Canon MP530 Printer connected to Ministack via USB port.
I can read and write to the Minstack's internal HDD and the other External HDD from any computer on the network, no problem. I can print to the printer from the Macintosh. But I CANNOT print from the Windows PC.
I can, allegedly, see the printer from the Windows machines and add it via Bonjour. I have also tried to add it via the method listed at iFelix's website (i.e. adding a printer by creating a new TCP/IP printer port). But nothing works.
Here is what happens: everything "appears" to work and the printer shows up on the Windows machines and in fact quite often once it is set up I can print a test page. However, once I try to use the machine later on, after the initial set-up it never works, this has happened now over about 15-20 cycles of installing, uninstalling, and re-installing the printer.
What I notice happens by looking at the Windows printer queue when i send a document to the printer in Windows is the following:
    1. Sometimes the print dialog will simply say something like "Checking printer status" and just freeze there and nothing prints.
    2. Sometimes it will add the document to the queue and then immediately delete it and nothing prints.
    3. Quite often it will simply say something like "Printer is not responding" or "Printer is offline" and the print job just sits in the queue and nothing prints.
    4. Sometimes, and I am not joking, the document will print out minutes later, inexplicably, once ten minutes later after the computer was turned off!
This is maddening and I would love a solution, even if that solution is ditch the Canon and buy "insert printer name" or "known working printer", because at this point I just need to print from the network with some consistency. I can print from any computer if the Canon is directly connected, but that is a horrible process of plugging and unplugging USB cables, and this is SUPPOSED to work.
Also, I would note that I am not adverse to using a switch with the printer, and would prefer an auto switch if anyone knows one that is know to work with PCs and Mac. I would prefer one that did not take an Ethernet port (like the new Belkin one) as I need all three of them for wired connections.
Any help greatly appreciated as I have been battling this problem for many days now with no help, and the Apple Geniuses at my local store could not provide a solution or even recommend a printer that was known to work with Windows via the AEBSn.

    Thanks, Arimaris!
    Appreciate the response!
Your first link should be: http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/8013.html
That is the link for the compatibility list for the NEWER AEBSn, the one you provided is for the older base station. I've seen this list before and the problem is that most of the printers are older there, and hard to find, and there is no certainty that if you do buy that older printer it will workk as the disclaimer on the article reads: "Please also note that due to changes in firmware and software upgrades some printers which are in this list may no longer in fact be compatible."
I would love to see an OFFICIAL lost from Apple about which printers are KNOWN to work with the AEBSn via USB, but I am thinking they might not do that so as not to anger their partners who cannot seem to make their printers function properly via Windows.
I've also tried the method mentioned in your second link, many times, and it does not work for me, either consistently or reliably. I've gotten the printer to work that way (creating a new printer port via TCP/IP w/ AEBS IP addy) maybe once or twice, usually right after I set it up, and then immediately after the test print, or after a restart, it stops working. I've also had it not work after set-up. I've also experienced the "It doesn't work, walk away, and then it prints 15 mins later" syndrome, with this approach. Also, it is a pain to later delete this new TCP/IP port and try again.
Something has got to give, someone has got to know the answer to this problem. I valiantly tried to get answers from the "experts" and "geniuses" at MacWorld this month, to no avail. Sorry you are experiencing the same, I feel your pain.

I keep getting the following message when opening my email....mac cannot connect to iCloud because of a problem with my iCloud account.

I have another kind of message. I am connected perfectly to iCloud but receive this every hour or so : "This Mac cannot connect to iCloud due to a problem with "address mail" of said account.
    But :
    1. I AM connected
    2. When I open i Cloud prefs it asks me to type my iCloud details (email address and password), then it says iCloud is in fac ALREADY open.
    3. When reading troubleshoot doc Carolyne linked to, I read this :
Close and reopen iCloud preferences before attempting to sign in to iCloud again.
If that does not resolve the issue, check your email folder and Junk folder for a verification email sent from Apple.
If there is no verification email in your email folder or Junk folder, click the Resend Verification Email button in iCloud preferences.
    My comments :
    - How can I close iCloud ? Document doesn't say. By clicking the "—" sign in iCloud prefs ???

  • Mac cannot connect to HP Printer

Just upgraded to Mountain Lion and Upgraded my HP Deskjet 3054.  Up until that time, my wireless network was working fine.  When trying to make the connection between my Mac and the printer, the message is telling me there is a problem, that the "device" cannot be located.  I noted that the IP address and other wireless information appearing on my Mac does not match up with the IP address of my MAC (which works wirelessly) nor does it match the information on the Configuration Page I printed from the printer.  During my visit to the Apple store, just to check the connection, we were able to wirelessly transmit via my Mac and the printer, but when I got it home, the "device cannot be located.  What could be the problem?

This reply is almost 2 years late and is about OS X Mavericks connecting to the wireless HP DeskJet 3054. However, I see a lot of people on the forums having this problem and few have posted a solution.
I, too, was not able to use the wireless connection for A Very Long Time and could not figure out why. The other day, I swapped out my AirPort Time Capsule for a new one. Inside the printed instructions, were instructions to set up your wireless printer and attach it to the AirPort Time Capsule.
The old logic was to attach a printer to the laptop or a particular computer.
The new Apple logic is to attach the wireless printer to your local network's wireless router.
The latter sentence is the key to attaching your wireless printer to your laptop using wireless...it has to be attached via the wireless network, not directly to your laptop or computer.
You can read the steps here: OS X: Connecting a Wi-Fi printer to your Wi-Fi network
These are the instructions (from the above link) I followed to attach my wireless HP DeskJet 3054 (now 3 years old) to my new MBP August 2014 w/Mavericks OSX:
If you have a Apple AirPort base station or AirPort Time Capsule:
Open AirPort Utility v6.2 or later (located in /Applications/Utilities). Tip: Install the latest version of AirPort Utility if you haven't already.
Click the AirPort device icon in AirPort Utility and enter the base station password if prompted.
From the Base Station menu, choose Add WPS Printer...
There are two types of WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) connections: First Attempt and PIN. Choose the one that your printer supports. Consult the documentation that came with the printer if you aren't sure.
If your printer supports the First Attempt connection method:
In AirPort Utility, select the First attempt option then click Continue.
Push the WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) button on the printer. You should see the MAC Address of the printer appear in the AirPort Utility, click Done.
If your printer supports the PIN connection method:
In AirPort Utility select the PIN option, then click Continue.
Enter the PIN number that is either hard-coded in the printer or displayed on the control panel of the printer.
If you are using a third-party Wi-Fi router: Consult the documentation that came with the router of contact the vendor for support.
You can see the Airport Time Capsule documentation here for setting up a wireless printer. The wireless printer set up steps are on pp. 14-15.
I don't know what to tell you if you are using a non-Apple wireless router, but you may be able to follow similar steps/similar logic to attach your wireless printer to your non-Apple wireless router, and thus to your laptop or computer via the local network.

  • Upgraded to OS X 10.9 and Cannot connect to Canon Imagrunner 3245i

I upgraded from OS X 10.7 to 10.9 and now I cannot connect to the networked Canon Imagerunner 3245i in my office. I've looked on Canon's website and can't find a new driver, website says there isn't one.
This happened before when I upgraded system software, but I've had this set up so long I can't remember what I did to make it work in the first place.
    What should I do?

    Red4Robin wrote:
I didn't see a place to click on the page you linked to.
You have to check the box under Downloads so that a red Downloads link appears as shown below.
A couple of other things to note.
After you install the UFR2 v10.2.0 driver, to add the printer you must use IP > LPD for the protocol.
And the iR3245 does not support Bonjour so it will not appear in the Default view of the Add printer window. So you must enter the IP address of the iR3245.
Good luck and reply if you get stuck.

  • [Solved]Cannot connect to Windows Share printer over network.

I've loaded the lp module, but I don't know if I need to load the USB or Parallel ports modules, or both or neither, since this is a network print.
My organization has provided some basic instructions for Mac users. Working off of those, I have a setup with the device URI reading
    DeviceURI smb://ksong8:(password)@ucmprint.ucmerced.edu/ucmglobal?waitjob=false
For some reason, the printer reports that it cannot connect to the CIFS share, even though it should be configured correctly.
Even more curiously, I'm able to connect to the share manually with
    smbclient //ucmprint.ucmerced.edu/ucmglobal -U ksong8
    and then entering my password.
Am I missing something terribly obvious here? I have a sample of logs in debug mode, but they looked okay to me (as well as very verbose), so I won't put them here. I have attached my /etc/cups/printers.conf.

    Solved.
As it turns out, either CUPS or Samba does not like having special characters in the password inside of /etc/cups/printers.conf. They should be replaced with "%" and the appropriate ASCII hex code for the symbol.

I have been having trouble connecting to my wireless printer and removed printer from system preferences thinking I could reinstall easily enough, however my computer does not recognise/identify my printer when I try to add a new printer.
I then noticed that my Mac was running really hot to touch and is sometimes slow, is this a serious problem, i no long have technical support or service cover.  Any recommendation as to what type of places I should go to get it serviced?  Apple only?
