Mac Classic II Screen Flickers Then Restart

Can anybody please help me what this means??
Second hand computer, that I bought today but not expecting much from.
Also the previous owner has tried to delete the HD off the desktop, and now it's just a standard file icon, any way it change it back to the HD icon??

Could possibly be a bad solder joint on or near the analogue board.
Please note that all work inside a compact Macintosh computer is dangerous (high voltage!) and must be carried out by someone with expert knowledge.

You could perhaps try to rebuild the Desktop (hold down the two keys Command=Apple and Option=Alt during the startup sequence).
Otherwise, a free System 7.0.1 is available for download from Apple (e.g., the British version here). The Disk Tools floppy (Apple HD SC Setup) can (normally) be used to reformat the hard disk (all information will be lost). You could then install a fresh operating system.

  • Mac Pro 3,1 - freezes, shows strange pixels on screen and then restarts

My Mac Pro 3,1 sometimes freezes and shows strange pixelated objects on the screen and then restarts by itself. Is this a hardware issue or a software issue?
I'm running OS X Mavericks on it and everything is up to date. I have a lot of saved professional audio work on it that needs to be done and I can't afford to get a new Mac Pro. Any please help me out! Thanks a lot.

Yes, there was a kernel panic today again.

  • My iPhone would just randomly give me a blue screen and then restart--did that a bunch of times between Tuesday and last night. As of last night, it WILL NOT come back on. iTunes says it's in recovery mode....what does all of this mean???

Tuesday night I was texting a friend and when I went to open her message, my screen went blue and restarted. I just wrote it off as weird and went on about my business. Later that night, I tried to turn on my phone and it would not turn on. I plugged it up, held down the power button, and pressed the home button all numerous times. I looked online and it said to do a "hard reset" by holding down the power and home button at the same time--my phone then came on. Throughout Wednesday, it would give me a blue screen and restart--nothing major just really annoying. I took it to the local Verizon store where I bought the phone from and he said that it was some type of hardware defect and I was still under my year warranty so I could get a new one for free--the free phone won't be here until tomorrow, Saturday. I took it home and it didn't give me any trouble for a couple of hours. The next day it was cooperating and then I left town for a little while and it acted up (blue screen and then restarting) a few times. When I got home, it acted up again and so I restarted the phone and it was working fine. A few minutes later, I tried to check my messages and the phone was off again. No matter what I do, my phone will not come back to life. It had at least 45% battery last time I looked at it. I decided to plug the phone up to my computer and see what it did--my computer recognizes that there is a phone hooked to it and it says that it's in "recovery mode". It also said that if I'm having issues with my phone, that I need to reset the phone via iTunes. I guess the questions that arise are
    1. Why is my phone doing this?
    2. If I reset my phone, will it go back to working again? I ask that because I don't want Verizon to charge me $300 when they send me the replacement phone and I won't need it (assuming that the phone decides to work once it's been reset).
    3. What type of hardware defect is this that is causing this issue, not only with my iPhone 5S but others as well?
    4. Shouldn't people be notifying Apple and letting them know that they need to fix this issue?
    5. Should I report this issue to Apple even though I didn't buy the phone directly from them, but through Verizon?
Any help that anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated! This whole situation has me stressed out and seriously confused.

    Hi, beth.lau.gr.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand you have been experiencing issues with your iPhone restarting and showing you a blue screen.  I wont be able to give you an exact answer as to why this is happening.  However, this is the most relevant troubleshooting article for this issue.  This article also provides options to reach out to us via phone for additional assistance.

  • Screen flickers then gets darker on top.

I have an early 2008 20"Imac, and I also have the 10.8.  Hmm, I wonder if that is the problem, I thought it was my invertor board.    No warranty on this either.
My screen flickers then the top stays a litter darker.

Have you read for possible solutions over in the "More Like This" thread over here?----------------------->

  • Screen flickering then goes dark.. :(

When I open my laptop, the screen flickers for less than a second and then goes dark. If I open and close it quite a few times, occasionally the screen will work, for hours at a time. If you shine a flashlight on it, you can see the dim desktop, so I know the computer is running. It is a mid 2010 macbook pro.
I have tried rebooting and resetting the laptop.., but the problem is persistent and its been weeks since i am facing it..
Have already had my logicboard replaced few months back... and now this....
Please help me.... as it is no longer under APP , i am worried how much its gonna be charged..
For a fault that i have read is very common with many people who bought their laptop during this year....
Any suggestion or ay kind of help will be great..

Before you do costly repairs on an old Mac compare it to the cost of a new MacBook Air. Apple recently dropped the prices on the MacBook Airs by $100. Best Buy has been offering additional discounts on the Air. Prices start around $850.

  • IBook screen flickered then went black

    Hi.
I have a 12" white opaque iBook (running OS 10.2...it was a hand me down, 700 mhz as I recall. Model is A1005) whose screen began to flicker, then went black. It wouldn't restart. After the usual panicking, I tried to restart with Disk Warrior (which was never installed onto that computer)
Next attempt to fix was to start in safe mode. Nothing changed.
I zapped the PRAM and then the screen came back. I backed up whatever I thought I didn't already have backed up. Feeling quite happy, I treated myself to some baked goods, then I shut it down.
Next day, I got only a black screen and then had to force quit by holding the power button down.
I tried 3 times to zap the PRAM, and still have only a black sceen.
Any ideas on what to do besides using the previously happy iBook as a coaster?
    Thanks for any help!

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.

It also sounds like it is possible that it may be having logic board problems. Enough Dual USB G3 iBooks suffered from the logic board problem that Apple began the iBook Logic Board Repair Extension Program in January of 2004. Do the symptoms look familiar? After leaving it sit overnight, does squeezing the case to the left of the trackpad allow you to start up and work for a bit as long as you keep the pressure on it there? If so, you may want to consider trying the shim fix suggested by John Sawyer here in the Apple Discussions iBook G3 (Dual USB) Forum:
[Y]ou can often fix this yourself by removing the iBook's bottom housing, and placing a shim of any sort, about 1mm to 1.5mm thick, onto the raised square on the bottom shield. I use a Scotch mounting square--you can get them in hardware stores and many grocery stores. When you reinstall the bottom case, it will press against this shim, which will press against the graphics chip, and may allow the chip to come into better contact with the logic board.

  • Screen flickering, then solid grey

Ugh, hopefully someone can help.  My 2012 IMac running 10.9.3 all of a sudden today, screen began to flicker like crazy.  I then turned it off, tried again and for a few minutes worked as it should.  Then, screen flickered again and then solid grey.  Turned off again and it repeated the cycle.  I do not have applecare so am hopeful it's something basic.  Any ideas. thoughts?  Thank you

I would start troubleshooting by going to Apple's Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup article located at:
Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup
Follow the steps methodically and if the machine still will not work correctly after going through each and every steop then the last step says to take it into your local Apple Store or AASP.

  • IPhone 4 screen flickering then turning off and when i try to turn it back on it either works or I get a white or purple screen. When i turn it off it doesn't turn back one

Ok so this started around a week ago. I got home one afternoon put my phone down went back to it and pressed the home button and it seemed that it turned itself off so I tried turning back on, didn't work so I hooked it up to my laptop tried turning it on again it came on but I got a WHITE screen. So after that I decided to leave it for a bit I went to it after it started working fine...until 4 days later. I was on instagram and all of a sudden the screen starts flickering like crazy and then it turned itself off, I did what i did last time and just left it for a bit it came back on working fine. And then about 2 days ago I was listening to music and the screen froze then started flickering (getting quite annoyed at this stage) and then turned off, this time I tried turning it back on straight away only this time it worked. And that brings us to this morning, i was on facebook and about 5 minutes later it starts flickering and freezing once again and then turned itself off. So i hooked it up to my laptop I then got it to turn on for like 6 seconds then the screen started to dim and turned off. That brings us up to now about 10 minutes ago i tried turning it on, it turned on but I got a PURPLE screen and it just stayed like that until i turned it off. Does anybody have any idea what is going on? I think its the screen itself but i'm probably wrong. All help is appreciated.

I am also having the same problem.. Its too much annoying and its unfortunate nobody at apple support has anyclue of what is happening?
... This is happening almost most of the time keeping my phone down most of the times.

  • Screen flickered, then went black (faint windows can still be seen)

i was just working on my powerbook and my screen flickered on and off and turned black. the best way to describe this is like what a lightbulb does right before it blows out. what is wrong?! i am trying to type this as fast as i can before it starts doing it again. is my LCD frying?

Might be bad Power Management Unit settings - following instructions to reset PMU.
Otherwise, there are 3 likely hardware related causes:
    1. Failing LCD Display backlight - needs replacement
    2. Broken/Intermittent ribbon connection - needs soldering and/or replacement
    3. Failing LCD backlight Inverter - needs soldering and/or repalcement
For all 3 of these screen would require service for technician....call Apple if you have warranty.

  • Mac Classic Jittery Screen

I was given a Classic in a trade (gave my gameboys away), and it has a jittery screen. It's floppy drive breaks disks, but that's another story (of which i can easily fix from the superdrive out of my Beige G3).
When I turn the Classic on, it's screen is very dim, then it brightens up when the happy mac comes on the screen. But, the screen is bouncing horizontally, and when i do put in a single sided floppy disk (the only type it will read), the screen literally expands horizontally, and shrinks vertically..
    http://blackevilweredragon.spymac.com/jittery.mov
    When cold it's much worse.

Your high voltage is unstable or the deflection circuitry is going out.
Inside any CRT, 10,000 to 40,000 Volts is generated to boil electrons off the electrode in the back and send them screaming toward the opposite charge on a metal "mask" near the front of the tube. They hit the phosphor coating near the front and make it glow.
Since this is a beam of electrons, you can "steer" that beam by applying electrostatic charges to Vertical deflection plates and Horizontal deflection plates in the neck of the tube to "sweep" the beam in a deterministic pattern across the face of the tube. Those voltages are around 200 Volts.
The stuff that drives the deflection is starting to fail, or the voltage is not steady.

  • T60 - Screen flickers then turns off

I'm having a repeated issue with a T60 - the screen will flicker for an hour or two occasionally, with what looks like windows showing VERY briefly, midway down the screen and to the right. Then the screen goes black. The harddrive continues, the lights are still on, and if I have music or a game running, the sound continues. Only the screen goes out. I have to turn it off using the power button, and it restarts just fine. This happens maybe twice a day with HEAVY usage (10-12 hours a day).
Any help would be greaty appreciated!

    Welcome to the forum, smithd8!
Reddish/pinkish hue is a dead giveaway for a failing backlight. If your laptop is still under warranty, send it in for a LCD replacement.
    Hope this helps.

  • Screen flickers then stops on reboot

I have a Lenovo Windows 7 PC. It has an AMD Radeon HD 6370D display adapter that is up to date. Ever since I bought the Lenovo, about 2 years ago, the screen randomly starts to flicker so that it is basically unreadable. If I restart the system, the flicker goes away. It may be fine for a couple of weeks or a few hours until it begins to flicker again. Then I restart again and the flicker goes away. Does anyone know what is causing this problem and how to fix it? The connection with my monitor is fine, and, since it fixes itself on restart, I assume it is a software problem, but my driver is up to date, unless a video card hardware problem can also be alleviated temporarily by a restart. Any help would be greatly appreciate.

Does nobody have an answer to this problem?

  • Well the screen on my Macbook has become well unusable and well the screen flickers then freezes and i cannot move the mouse unless i hold the screen i suspect something is loose in the screen which connects it to the hard drive and keyboard

i find this to be very annoying and i am suspecting i will have to take my Macie to get repaired i was just wondering is anyone else has any similar problems i find this very annoying and i am not all too sure how it has begun to happen due to the fact that i have NEVER dropped or done anything to harm my macie and well i do not understand why this is happening i mostly use my computer while sitting at a desk so i do not understand but oh well i am rambling on please if anyone has had a similar problem do share.

If your screen is flickering, you might have a hardware issue there. I would take Macie to the doctor and have her checked out.

  • IPhone start up screen flickers then shuts off

I've tried holding down the home and sleep button down for ten seconds, no luck. Even restored my iphone but yet the screen just does not turn on!! Help?!?
My iPhone can connect to itunes and I can hear alarms going off and I get the occasional vibrate but nothing else is happening???

    The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
Restart..  Reset..  Restore from Backup..  Restore as New...
Try a Reset of the Phone... You will Not Lose Any Data...
Turn the Phone Off... ( if it isn’t already )
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
The Apple logo will Appear and then Disappear...
    Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds...
    Release the Buttons...
    Turn the Phone On...
If that does not help... See Here:

  • After updating to iOS 7, iPod touch 5th gen randomly partially blue screened and then restarted.

I was using my iPod touch 5th generation to listen to a podcast through the podcast app and searching the ebay app for some stuff and three quarters of the screen turned blue and part of the top of the blue part showed alternating colours of between what was on the screen and blue. Then my iPod restarted (and took a long time at that) and then it was just as if my iPod had restarted. Please help. This is first and only time that this has happened and nothing else was open on my iPod.

    Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
