Mac code and BT Infinity

When I enquired about Bt Infinity,I was told that I needed a mac code from my previous supplier virgin (adsl not cable).I obtained this and passed it onto BT.The next day after going live on BT Infinty I contacted virgin to see if my mac code had been used and was told it had not and that I would have to phone back and cancel with virgin and pay a £24 disconnection fee.I then contacted BT by phone and was told that I would have to pay this anyway.Any advice on this matter would be very helpful.
A blast from the past is refreshing.

Interestingly for moves from Virgin Cable to BT there is no current formal system and Ofcom gives it as an example of what they call Cease and Provide where currently the consumer must do the leg work and sort out both ends themselves.
The OP is moving from Virgin National not Virgin Cable.
There is no disconnection charge providing you are no longer in contract and whoever told you there would be is wrong.

  • BT and Mac Code

Hi  a friend of mine changed their isp to BT == went throught he usual things -- got mac code -- passed it to BT -- was conected on the correct date to BT == they noticed that they were still being charged by their old isp so rang them only to be told that when the new isp uses the mac code and they get connetced that cancels the old isp account -- the old isp looked into the account and found that BT had taken over the line but never used the mac code therefore the old isp account was still active -- alas they got the old account cancelled.
I myself recently changed to bt but my account with the old isp was automatically cancelled when i was switched on with BT.
May i add that these two accounts (mine and a friends) were with the same old isp -- and changed over to BT on the same date == both accounts were set up at the same time -- good job they checked their old account

  • Re: Invalid MAC Code?

I am having the same problem (switching my broadband from o2 to BT and being issued an invalid mac code) and i am getting nowhere fast.  My broadband with o2 worked very well for well over a year.  The wireless router was good enough to let me son play his xbox live in his room and for various mobile phones to get internet connections.  Then without warning o2 did an upgrade and my router stopped working.  I was sent what they called a better router - it wasn't.  Kept disconnecting and there was no signal throughout the house.  I complained and they sent me a second better version and again the same problems.
I then decided to move to BT who assured me there router was much better.  And so the nightmare began.
o2 issued a mac code for the broadband and BT said it was invalid because there was something incomptable.
Went back to o2 and they insisted mac code was valid.
Returned to BT and again I was advised that mac code was invalid.
Back to o2 then BT then o2 then Bt then o2 then BT etc... etc..
Decided to contact Ofcom and they advised me the responsibility lay with o2 and that I should ask to speak to a manger.  I did try however getting to a manger seems to be almost impossible.  I was promised by o2 that they would send me another mac code and the advisor did admit they were having technical difficulties!!!
    Still waiting ........

    Hi,
I have had what I beleive to be a similar problem with my present ISP Talk Talk, I wish to move to BT Infinity and having placed the order, was asked to request a Mac Code from TT which they duly provided.
This is where the fun begins !!
Promptly fed the Mac Code into the required online form - not recognised ! tried again and again - same result ! .
Contacted BT help and they explained that I would need to be on BT Broad Band before I could upgrade to Fibre,to which I accepted that may be the case.I then mentioned about the problematic Mac Code to which the CSrep took down the code and said he would then ring me on my mobile the following day with regard to instructions about Fibre Optics order and mac code problem. This he did but unfortunately the same problem with the mac code occurred.
So am now in the dilemma of being in between two ISPs albeit still connected to TT I would like to have been in a more positive situation with BT

  • Requesting MAC code

BT ending Digital Vault was the last straw - I'm off to Plusnet, saving nearly £400 a year!  Unfortunately, when I clicked on the link on BT's own website requesting my MAC code, I received an email saying I would have to pay them £30 for the privilege since, apparently, I hadn't used Ofcom's guidelines.  In effect, saying that BT did not follow them either, or why did they have the link on their website?  They also offered me a cheaper deal which, considering I was on what I thought was the cheapest option, did puzzle me somewhat.  However, I declined their "kind" offer, wondering why I wasn't on this cheap rate to start with.  Considering my BB speed is less than 4MB, paying £58 a month for it does not seem quite right!  Anyone any advice on how to stop them charging me the £30 before I send them an abusive email calling them a shower of robbing b@st@rds?

  • Old isp refuse to give mac code

Having issues with broadband connection for 3weeks every time they put order through for broadband it gets cancelled been told its bt retail servers and somerhing to do with mac code have been in touch with talktalk and they wont give me mac code. I fed up of waiting and am wondering if it is better if i had a whole nee number and start again.level 2 team said to me to have the broadband hard ceased and then reprovide broadband but get told it wont work but it hasnt been tried yet. Keep getting told it will be on on certain days but its not happening just keep getting fobbed off all the time. Is there anything in here tht can be done to get my broadband in quicker.

you are entiltled to get your MAC code and it should be issued in 5 working days according to OFCOM  get TT MAC here http://www.getamaccode.co.uk/talktalk_mac_code/index.php
if however you have previously received a MAC code and it is still valid the your provider can refuse to give you the MAC code until it expires

If your serial number is listed as being valid at http://www.adobe.com/ then I would recommend obtaining a fresh copy of the installation files.  You can find details on how to locate your serial number at Find your serial number quickly - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/find-serial-number.html.
To download a fresh copy of the installation files please see Download CS6 products.

Thanks. Where could I possibly look for a firewall rule. I knowingly did not creat any. My system has internet coming to a Modem which then is connected to a wireless router. I have computers connecting to the router through cable as well as wireless. One of these computers has been our  mailserver using Mercury and Pegasus and that computer has a static IP address. The Mac Mini also has been assigned a different srtatic IP address. I have only set up user account, none of them an email account as I initially expect them to receive only internal mails. Is it necessary that I must set up an email id for each user while setting up the user account. My server id is server.local. So would the email id for local users be [email protected]?

  • Photoshop Elements 13 and Premiere, Mac , Purchased and says invalid codes??

Hi, I just purchased the bundle for PSE13 and Premiere and when I went to download it there was no option for the mac, it just talks about 64 bit etc, so i downloaded the trial versions for mac and went to put in my purchased codes and  both applications say that I have invalid codes. Would I have purchased the wrong bundle by accident?
Also I tried chat and it says no one is available now, are they offline for a few days over the Christmas period?
    Thanks

  • HT5628 i was installing windows 8 on mac by boot camp and after i put the windows code and choose the partition i formatted the boot camp sector it said windows can not install on this sector because it is gpt

Reinstalling Mavericks depends on several factors:
if you erased your recovery partition
what OS originally came on your Mac.
I'll assume you don't have a backup available that you made before your mishap,  because you didn't mention it.
That's really the take home message here: have a backup!
If you still have your recovery partition:
boot into the recovery partition (command R at restart)
use the recovery partition to reinstall Mavericks. see: OS X: About OS X Recovery
if you do not still have your recovery partition, then it depends on whether your Mac originally came with installer disks or not.
If it originally came with installer disks, you would boot from the installer disks, erase your HD, and then reinstall the OS that is on the installer disks, and then upgrade as necessary until you get to Mavericks.
If your mac did not originally come with installer disks, but you managed to erase your recovery partition, then you can try to boot into internet recovery (option-command-R at restart), and use internet recovery to erase your HD and reinstall the OS that originally came with your computer, and then upgrade to Mavericks if you need to. See: Hands on with Mountain Lion's OS X Recovery and Internet Recovery | Macworld
(the reference refers to ML but it applies just as well to Mavericks).

  • Contact number to clear debt and acquire MAC code

    Hi,
I was late paying the bill for my phone/broadband package (I am no longer tied into a contract) and my service has now been suspended.
Is there a free phone number I can call and speak to someone in the UK to settle my account and immediately acquire a MAC code to migrate my broadband (and phone) to another provider unless of course BT can provide a cheaper package?
I definitely want to speak to someone in the UK rather than trying to make myself understood by a foreign call centre and not getting anywhere...
    Thanks!

you could try the online chat for bill payment - link at top of board

  • Do I need a MAC code???

    Hi,
A gentleman from BT called to my home yesterday and gave me info on BT Infinity and said he could do all the work for me to change back to BT from SKy (I am within the 31days cancellation period) although I said I would like to send the letter to sky recorded delivery, which i did.
My 31 days notice would be up until the 24th March and so I am very eager to make sure eveything is in order but unfortunately I wasn't given a copy of the paperwork with references etc.
Do I need to contact Sky for a MAC code or will they email me it automatically when they receieve the letter asking for my phone and broadband service to be cancelled?
I really wanna get it all sorted before my 31 days are up.

    Hi there,
If I were you, I would ring Sky and ask for your MAC code. They should be able to give it to you there and then, over the phone. This was the case when I migrated in from my previous ISP (Be).
    I hope this info helps.
