Mac compatibility with 'Novell Groupwise' PC network

Hi all
I'm currently working on a PC, but my company is 'looking into' buying me and my colleague Macs (We're the Graphic Designers for a large organisation).
I've worked on Macs for 15+ years. However, the company uses 'Novell Groupwise' for all its e-mails and network stuff.
They are very nervous about Macs, and wouldn't want one on the network, which would make sending/receiving e-mails and printing to network printers next to impossible!
We could use a USB printer, but we also have large format stuff, which is network only.
Does anyone have any experience of using a Mac on a Novell network?
I'd welcome any information, as I would like to be able to have some definitive stuff to go to the bosses with to try to convince them that Macs aren't poisonous and likely to infect the rest of the system!

Hi Mikey.
First: sorry for my bad english
After years i work with a MacMini in a PC Network organisation.
Our mail server is a Novell Groupwise 7.x.
I have 3 choices:
1. Groupwise client 7.0.3 (a Java client similar to PC Client).
2. Groupwise web Access (web client)
3. PC Groupwise client in a virtual machine with VMWare or Parallel.
My MacMini is a 1gb machine and my light solution is 2.
Unlikely GWclient doesn't support notifications.
I'm in network and smb connection works well.
So.. i support our graphics minds all in mac.
In august is my first birthday with mac at work
Hope this can help you.
Beppe

  • UCCX with Novell GroupWise

    Hi,
I use integration UCCX with Novell GroupWise. All the abilities has working good. But sometimes, when i send e-mail to customer, I have double mails...
    Why is this happening?
    Thanks
    Sergei

    Hi Gergely,
    UCCS Version 8.5.1 SU1
    UCCX Premium ( not UCCE)
Unfortunately, I do not know what it is a problem. When i send email (answer) to a customer, it is duplicated. But it happen sometimes, about 7 out of 10 sendings. First, I thought that the problem is WAN, because of EMAIL Server and UCCX are in deferent cities, perhaps it is problem in network.
Last week, I used other EMAIL Server in the same city as UCCX (LAN), but that problem happened again

My HP 2355 won't show up in AirPrint? I have it plugged in via USB and set it up on my Mac mini with the airport express network. Any advice?

Unless your HP printer is an AirPrint-ready device, just connecting it to the USB port of the AirPort Express base station will not make it so.
On the other hand, connecting a non-AirPrint printer to the base station's USB port it can be shared out by the base station's print server. Please see the following Apple Support article for details.

  • EP 6.0 SP2 integration with Novell Groupwise

    Hi,
I am trying to integrate novell groupwise (email system) with EP 6.0 Collaboration Launch pad.  So user can get all the functionality of CLP.  Rightnow EP6 support only lotus and MS exchange server (out of the box).  Seems we need to write some email transport, using KM java API.  Please send me some how to guides or step-by-step info or some sample code.   It would be very helpful.
    Thanks
    Regards
    gana

I have got very good experiences with Groupwise connectivity with the SAP Portal over KM Transport APIs.
    Is your question still relevant?

  • Mac compatibility with Autodesk

    Hello,
As an architecture student, I'm working with programs such as Autodesk Autocad en Autodesk 3D Studio Max. Since my knowledge of these programs is fairly okay, I'm not thinking of switching to other programs. Now I'm planning to buy a Mac Book Pro and I was wondering what about the compatibility with Mac? I know Bootcamp and I know Parallels, and I know these are solutions to run the software on your Mac, but what about the performance? Similar to Pc or faster/slower?
And does anybody know if there is a Mac version of Autocad or 3DS in the pipeline?
    Thanks in advance
ps im not sure this is the correct place to post, so excuse me if i'm wrong

Autodesk does not provide either AutoCAD or 3dsMax anymore. It's AutoCAD Mac version was an R. edition (primary to 2000) and from what I've just looked upon 3dMax v.9 is only Windows based. So, in order to have full compatibility-and save yourself the heavy burden of purchasing again-you'll have to run through BootCamp (or Parallels). The only report I've seen on this is here (and I think it's very good news):http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=500994

  • Setting up Mail with novell groupwise

I'm trying to set up an account in Mail and I'm getting confused on how to do it. There's just so much stuff out there and they're telling me differnt things. My school used Novell Groupwise. Does anybody know how to set it up?!

I have set up Growl with Leopard, have opened the mail feature in the Extras folder, have tweaked the mail preferences, and yet it still doesn't work. Any ideas?

  • Synching itouch with novell groupwise

Our university uses Novell groupwise email. We are contemplating purchasing itouch for our nursing students but wonder about whether we will be able to use groupwise. any advice?

I have set up my Novell Groupwise account at two separate Universities (I study at one, work at the other) and both work fine with the Touch mail program - no need to use the web interface. You may need some help from your IT department to get port numbers or server addresses but the Touch does auto-detect quite well.
To sync calendars and things, you will need to have outlook installed on your computer and set up to access your Groupwise server - easy enough - as the Touch syncs with Outlook. Interesting thing is that you don't have to every USE Outlook, just make sure it is set up to access data from your GroupWise account.
I wish Apple would include direct GroupWise conduit!

  • Java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError with Novell GroupWise WebAccess Version 6.5

Before I upgraded to Tiger (10.4.4) yesterday from Panther (10.3.9) & the latest version of Safari (I did not write down the exact version as I wiped out my hard drive when upgrading), the Novell GroupWise WebAccess version 6.5 was working perfectly fine.
However, since the upgrade & using Safari 2.0.3 (417.8), I am getting the following error message after submitting my loginID and password.
    500 java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError java.lang.Exception
Novell Servlet Gateway v2.00 Feb 2000
    If I use Netscape 7.2 (Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.2) Gecko/20040804 Netscape/7.2), this site works fine.
Both Safari and Netscape has out of the box setting, and both have Java/Javascript enabled.
    Both have Java 1.3.1 Plug-ins
    Any advice?

Never mind. I found the solution myself...
The language preference for the OS had to be set to English for this page to work in Safari.

  • Mac compatability with Win2003 Network?

I wonder if someone can help me. We've got a Windows 2003 server at school. From a PC you 'log on' from a rather ugly front end and end up (very slowly) with your own folders & desktop, etc. When you're finished you click on 'start'... etc.
We have a few Macs but all I've been able to do is set up some shortcuts in the dock so that pupils can log on to their own folders on the server from within the current OS X user. For some reason the SMB login window has text in it that needs deleting and there is always the danger that someone daft will click "remember password". And then forget to 'eject' their folder when they've finished.
Without wanting to make OS X as ugly and unfriendly as XP, is there a way of getting OS X to provide a login window like the PCs do (without manually creating a user for every pupil on every Mac)? Can Mac OS X's login window refer to a list held on the 2003Server?

Hi Ash435, I'd recomend putting your macs on your network 'binding to your domain'if you have a look at the docs here
    http://www.wazmac.com/wazza/networking/basicsharing/networkintegration.html
it should be relatively simple. The only gotcha maybe the the security signing settings on the server which will need to be changed to
Digitally Sign Client Communication (Always) Disabled
Digitally Sign Client Communication (When Possible) Enabled
Digitally Sign Server Communication (Always) Disabled
Digitally Sign Server Communication (When Possible)
    Cheers

  • G4 mac compatability with Airport Express?

I'm still a bit of a ******* when it comes to my AX (and thanks to the 2 people who answered my other question regarding it)
In this case, I have a software dillemma - my Powerbook G4 says that it is not sufficiently updated to connect to my AX. The Airport Assitant Utility helps with "Graphite and Snow", but not my AX.
Where can I update the Assistant for my Powerbook G4 laptop, or is that even possible? - so that it will (hopefully) work with my AX?
    Powerbook G4 12-inch   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Intel Mac Mini 1.5GHz Core Solo 1GB RAM Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Duane,
I have a similar problem and am wondering how my situation works with your statement of 2wire not working with AX.
Posted: Jul 2, 2007 10:01 AM in response to: bleedingrose19
The AX can not be used to wirelessly extend the wireless network of a 2Wire portal. The 2Wire is not compatible with Apple's WDS.
My original set up worked great with the AX. DSL modem (NON-wireless), to router, to Airport Base (original type) to AX. The old modem and router started dropping everything so I upgraded to a 2wire wireless modem through my DSL provided.
I have my 2wire working and my Airport working but can't get the AX to work.
I've reset the AX time and time again so that it doesn't remember a thing. I want to use the AX as a booster to another part of the house so I can work on my laptop there and my husband can use it with an ethernet wire to his PC like we use to be able to do.
Here is how I have it set up now on a WEP password.
    Plugged into this router is:
    733 MHz PowerPC G4 running OSX 10.3.9
    Airport Extreme (1st edition)
HP 6MP laser printer that connects to a Asante box (needs appletalk)
Airport Extreme has a USB Printer attached to it
Airport Express that is a booster and is also used by a non-wireless PC laptop for internet access using a blue cable
PowerBook and an iBook using the wireless set up. Both running OSX 10.3.9

  • Intel MAC Compatibility with 3560/Other Catalyst Switches

Some of our users recently reported problems with their new Intel based Macintosh computers when we upgraded from old Extreme Summits to Catalyst 3560 series switches. They report sluggish response from the network. We have checked the ports for negotiation issues and errors and do not find any. Suspect the Intel Mac; but wanted to find out if anyone else is experiencing the same or has suggestions. Thanks.

    Hello,
to my understanding MAC issues should not be the cause of your issues. Either the Ethernet frame is standard compliant, then there should not be an issue with Catalyst switches and no port errors. Or the Ethernet frames or MAC in use is non standard then the switch would report an error.
Network response times depend on many things and negotiation might be the first thing to check - as you did. I would still recommend fixed settings for port speed and especially duplex. Just to avoid also intermittend problems (f.e. between PC reboots).
Have you also checked for MTU and TCP window size settings? What else did change when you upgraded to the 3560s? Did you also check Router and switch ports for duplex and speed settings?
Hope this helps! Please rate all posts.
    regards, Martin

  • G4 Power Mac compatibility with new monitor

Have a G4 Power Mac with dual 1.25 processors and a Radeon 9000 Pro graphics card. What limits on flat panel monitors does this system have? 22", 24" or resolution?

What monitors work with a given graphics card is limited by the resolution the card will support. Size of the screen, as such, is irrelevant. The Radeon 9000 I believe supports up to 1920 by 1200 pixels via ADC or DVI and up to 2048 by 1536 via VGA (through a VGA extractor).

  • Office Mac Compatibility With Lion

I'm trying to decide iWork vs Office for school and I have decided I need Office so the file will look the same for someone else. I was wondering if Office supported autosave and other lion features.
Also I was wondering if anyone thinks iWork will work for me.

Office for Mac does not yet support Autosaave & Versions,
iWork will work but get used to saving then exporting the document to a format compatible with MS Office.
Open Office will also open and save MS Office documents and is free.
