  • Konica Minolta 2590MF Scanner Mac Compatible Software?

I bought this nice, new printer/fax/scanner combo for $350, including shipping, and it really does print beautifully. I've even gotten the fax working to my satisfaction. The scanner is another matter. Vuescan and Silverfast(?) don't have this item on their supported list. I opened Image Capture on my iMac, and it even allows me to chose my printer's name, but it doesn't respond thereafter to any commands, and the scanner commands on it's board don't go past allowing me to choose Scan to PC, but then won't proceed when you hit the Select [the action to Scan to PC] command. I think it will give a high quality scan if it would work with my computer...
It's rather disingenuous of Konica Minolta to plaster Mac OSX pictures on their box and on all the advertising for this product, when only the printer portion of the multifunction machine is Mac-compatible. Their own booklets [the ones you see only after you buy the product and download them] indicate that you should take it upon yourself to go and find a Twain-based software that is compatible with their machine...what kind of manufacturer's advice is that?
I went to the SANE site, but they were so techie, I couldn't comprehend the lengthy instructions about what to definitely not to contact them about [under any circumstances]...I'm not completely new to this, but not a programmer, either... Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks for that. I am going to check it out.
After hours of fooling around with Image Capture and clicking options and restarting stuff, I am now successfully using Image Capture. The main item was choosing the scanner at a different level and clicking on a Twain option and a few other things I did to the scanner.
The scan quality for photos is astonishing for the money I paid for this machine. Image Capture has a lot of limitations, no doubt, but it works at a passable level, although I am definitely going to see if SANE will be better. We have a lot of old photos I want to digitize.
I really wanted this machine to work, so it's great to find a work-around (haven't we mac users always been about that?, and more than one.

  • Mac Compatible Windows Office software

    Dear All,
I've just installed my Mac compatible Windows Office software but there is this pop up that says that an 'unexpected error has taken place at the Windows Library Frame'. I wonder what it is. Does anyone have the same experience, or could anyone enlighten and help on this?
    Thanks!
    McIdiot

I had the same experience and I HATE these people who tell you its not a mac problem! IF they don't know and have no experience, why bother answering, huh?!
Wow... that's a lot of unnecessary anger you've got built up there.
Templeton Peck is correct... as usual.
Apple Discussions is NOT a support forum for Microsoft products, and provided the proper direction to the user so they would receive the best possible assistance.
I see you are fairly new here, so perhaps I can offer some advice for you.
Try not to HATE the experienced volunteers here, as you yourself may need help from someone in the future.

You've posted in the forum for Apple's defunct productivity suite 'Appleworks'. Ironically, this might have been suitable for you, but as it's no longer sold or supported by Apple, and won't run at all on Lion or Mountain Lion, it would be a bad choice even if you could find a copy.
What you need is a database program. While there are several available for Mac, there are really only two practical contenders, both made by FileMaker.
Bento is a simple and easy to use database; it has a variety of templates and you can set up fields as required; however it is limited, and also very week on printable reports or configurable layouts.
Filemaker Pro is pretty well the industry standard - you can do just about anything with it, but its expensive, and has a steep learning curve.
Both are available in trial form, so you could play about and see whether either is suitable - Bento would probably be OK, and isn't expensive.
This article is written from the point of view of someone transferring from AppleWorks, but even so it might contain useful information for you:

  • Want to Buy Camcorder that has Mac Compatible Software

I am in the market for a Camcorder in the $300 - $400 price range. I would like to find one that has Mac compatible software. All the ones that I have checked on Amazon, etc. are only PC compatible.
Are there any Mac compatible Camcorders available in my price range?
    Thanks,
    Jim

Most consumer camcorders will work with iMovie, which comes preinstalled on your Mac. You don't need any special software to capture/ingest the footage.

  • Does anyone know of mac-compatible sales territory mapping software?

does anyone know of mac-compatible sales territory mapping software? I'd like to try a free-trial before purchasing

Though this question has been outdated, I figured it might be helpful for other users that are looking for the samething. ClueTrust is a great option for sales territory mapping. If you are looking for sales territory mapping software that helps generate leads at the same time, try Badger Maps. We are currently offering a 7-day-trial for all users. The software is compatible for all tablets and mobile devices including ipad and iphone.

I am new to Mac. I am in need of a good client database software. The program I was using is not compatible with the Mac. I have found some that say they are Mac compatible but you need to install Windows or another type of software. I have had several people tell me not to install Windows on my Mac. Anyone have any suggestions. Help

  • How do I port my Windows Word, Excel, and Powerpoint files to the MAC?  What software is needed on the MAC to use them?  Thanks.

How do I port my Windows Word, Excel, and Powerpoint files to the MAC?  What software is needed on the MAC to use them?  Thanks.

You can certainly use iWork, though I hesitate to recommend it to a seasoned Windows user simply because it would add another level of the unfamiliar with which you would have to gain familiarity. The iWork applications are certainly very competent and in most respects both easy to use and surprisingly powerful. They are not 100% compatible however, though that typically manifests itself in document formatting issues rather than anything more significant.
I have never attempted to import emails from a Windows system into MacOS - other than in Outlook connected to an Exchange server, thus not really an issue at all. I doubt that the Mail app in MacOS can import directly, but of course you could always set the account(s) up on the Mac and then forward emails you want to keep from the PC. Not elegant, but it works. Virtually any Windows document or file, whichever application created it, can be opened or converted for use on a Mac, and using both systems on my desk each day I rarely see any issues switching stuff from one machine to the other. You may stumble over one or two issues, but likely not significant.
In switching platforms there will be some inevitable issues, not so much with being able to import your stuff because there's usually a workaround or a utility that can help, but just with getting familiar with the platform and the differences between Windows and MacOS that can obscure their similarities. From time to time the support community here hears from a user who has found the migration very problematic and regrets it, but for the most part the phrase 'I should have done this years ago...' is rather more prevalent!

  • How do I install my LG Super Multi BLADE Mac compatible external drive without the install disc?

I can't find my install disc! How do I install my LG Super Multi BLADE Mac compatible external drive without the install disc?

You don't have installer discs with that model. What do you need to do? USB and Thunderbolt external drives do not require any special software. If you need to partition and format them, then use Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.

  • Pc & mac compatible wireless ethernet lacie mini drive how to format?

ok, I have a ethernet drive connected to my wireless modem/router. My pc laptop sees it no problem, but my macbook pro won't. I know it's because the lacie drive is NTFS formatted, but I can't for the life of me work out how to reformat it to FAT32. Any ideas? Any lacie forums out there I can ask? Ta.

I have two ethernet drives connected to my router.
There isn't a hope of even communicating with them on the Mac because there's no Mac compatible software available to do it.
I've no intention of dabbling with them because I might lose the data. Time Capsule appears to be a solution to this one.

  • What video / animation software do I need for making a photos mouth move?

I would like to create a video of my son singing to an music track. I want to use a digital photo of him that I have and I want to make his mouth move in the photo as if he is singing the song. I would like it to look as real as possible. I am having trouble finding the right software to use. Does anyone have a suggestion? Will Apple Final Cut do this? Motion?

You can try to use anime studio for mac ($49.99), and it will use your sons image as a 2D.
But the quality will be more like a south park style and might not looks real.
I use Toon Boom Studio ($399), there was Toon Boom Express version ($49.99) last year, but now the developer stop developing that version.
for real result, maybe you should consider 3d animation or flash animation software instead of 2d software.
    Good Luck.
    Mike

GifConverter and Pixelmator are in the (Mac) App Store and work well.

  • I need a Mac compatible photo scanner

Does anyone know a good scanner that is Mac compatible that I can scan old photos and have them come out good so I can store them in IPhoto. I can't seem to find one that isn't for Windows or a PC. I would really like to preserve my old photos in my computer.

    Hi,
I just got the HP G4050 last week. It's scans Pics, 35mm slides and negatives. I have scanned 166 35mm slides and have imported them into iPhoto. So far It's words great. The only thing is that you need to download the MAC Leopard software from the HP site, and they don't tell you that in the instructions that come with the scanner.

  • Is there a Mac-compatible wireless print server?

This is a variation on a theme many have touched upon. I want to have my Airport Extreme wirelessly connected to two printers (B&W laser, and color inkjet) currently connected by USB cables, stretched to 16' limit. Printers can't be moved conveniently to a closer position. I bought a $100 NetGear wireless print server WGSP606 (two USB ports) at CompUSA yesterday after staff there said it would work with Macs. Alas, it doesn't. The printers are not wireless models; the wireless print server supposedly (if Mac-compatible) would effectively make them wireless. From the various posts I get impression that an Airport Express might work, but could it serve two printers? Anyone know of a Mac-compatible wireless print server? Or have a workaround suggestion? Any help much appreciated.

I'd say if the print server supports standard printing protocols, then OS X will work with it. But there are issues you should learn about.
The network comm protocols you see in Printer Setup Utility are part of the CUPS system. Very few (only Brother so far) non-postscript printer drivers work correctly with the CUPS system. The manufacturers have provided OS 9-style drivers that have USB comm written into the driver, limiting you to USB use only. Postscript printers don't have this issue because they don't need a driver, just a PPD. Apple tried to get around this issue by including Gimp-Print open source CUPS drivers, but the models supported are limited. So, the first issue is - is a CUPS driver available?
Protocol setup on OS X is the next issue. For Windows, there is autosetup software for nearly every print server sold new. We don't have that software on OS X, so we need to enter the correct info into Printer Setup. The IP > IPP and IP > LPD protocols require a print-server-specific queue name together with IP address to route data to the printer. Because of the Windows autosetup software, help desk people at Netgear may not even know this basic info. But nearly all print servers correctly support the standards and the device queue name can be found in the print server manual.
The advantage of Airport Express and Extreme as print servers is that Apple uses the airport/Bonjour software to redirect USB output from the computer to the USB on the Express/Extreme. Kind of avoids the printer driver issue but also takes away some standard IP protocols (only HP jetdirect is supported for non-Bonjour printers).
Sorry for the mini-lecture. Hope this helps.
(Airport Express/Extreme is only for one printer)

  • Mac Compatible External DVD Burner Not Compatible?

I just recently bought the New Samsung Slim External DVD Writer SE-S084. It does not respond at all. It gives me no desktop icon when I plug it in via USB(which is it's only power source).
It claims on the box that it is MAC Compatible, OS requirement for MAC is version 10.4.6 Tiger. I'm updated to 10.4.11 so shouldn't be a problem there. In my search I came across somebody who had the same issue with the same Samsung product, and with a firmware update recommended by another poster, their problem was resolved. Everything worked fine.
Both of my EFI and SMC firmware is updated. Could it be I have to reinstall the firmware?
I also tried to use PatchBurn with no avail. Do I need PatchBurn?
I am so lost. Can anyone help me with this? It seems like a simple solution has to be out there, I just can't find it on my own.
    Thanks!

I am a little bit miffed at the fact that you have a newer Macbook and you have a problem with the Optical drive. Did you restart the computer and select OSX instead of Windows, then open Safari and then go to Samsung's web site, and support then find your model of external and download the drivers for it. They should open and run automaticlly, if not they will give you the instructions on how to download them. When you do this make sure you have the external plugged in. I would also make sure that you are plugged into the USB-2 port, and not the USB-1 port.
If all that fails Google for your model Samsung and type in SAMSUNG EXTERNAL SLIMLINE DRIVERS FOR MAC. then hit enter. many times you can find opensource drivers there that are better than factory drivers.
Check as well and make sure there isn't a recall or a fix from Apples Site for your Internal Optical drive. It simply doesn't make since that you have a failure on this newer optical drive.
Did you Run Macjanitor, or Cache OutX, or Onyx, and did you repair permissions. Any one of these or a combination could fix your problem if the optical drive isn' fried.
Any of the software mentioned is FREE and you can Google for them.
