Mac-compatible digital recorders?

Hello all,
I"m a college student going back to school in a few days, and I'm looking for a digital voice recorder that will let me record lectures and then play them on my Mac, preferably in iTunes.
I've seen a bunch of different recorders on the internet but none seem to be Mac-compatible. Some of the Olympus recorders claim to be compatible, but customer reviews say that they don't get all the computer-based features that the company promises. Additionally, I've seen recorders that attach to iPods, but I'd prefer to not carry my iPod to every class. Has anyone found a digital recorder that ACTUALLY works well with their Mac?
I'd appreciate any guidance. Thanks in advance!

I know Olympus makes one as some of our employees use them but the model number escapes me at the moment. Visit their website and you'll probably find them.

  • Mac compatible Digital voice recorder

I'm looking to buy a Mac compatible Digital voice recorder for interviews (I'm a journalist). Needs are one that is easy and basic, where I don't need to download any software if possible. I'm going to be doing lengthy interviews and need something that can stand up to travel & length of time (about 2-3 hrs per interview). Thanks for an input. Apple store couldn't help.... thanks!

For a high quality portable audio recorder, I've been very happy with the Olympus LS-10, but it is more expensive that the ordinary voice recorder, on the order of $250USD. If you want quality, this has it. I am disappointed at the sound quality of the voice recorders I have tried. It's stereo, about the size of a pack of cigarettes (if anybody remembers that). The built-in microphones are not perfect for music (reduced bass and boosted highs), but are excellent for voice. The device records about 10 hours continuously on 2 AA batteries. It has tiny speakers and earphone jack, and an iPod-easy menu system. It requires no software to transfer files. You connect the USB cable to the Mac, and the recorder shows up on the desktop for you to move whatever files you wish. You can record in WAV, MP3 or WMA formats at several bit depths and sample rates to balance quality with file size.
There are many competing products (Sony, Tascam, Marantz, others) that have some similar characteristics, but I have no experience with them - except some Zoom products I tried were poor.

    Hello All
I would be very grateful for any suggestions regarding a good quality mini voice recorder that will work well with my imac.
When i say work well, I mean one that will download material from the recorder to mac as simply as possible.
I believe the olympus range may be my best bet. Any particular models anyone can recommend.
Thanks so much for your help

  • Mac compatible digital photo frames?

    Hi
I am looking for a digital photo frame that is compatible with my Macbook. Does anyone know if they exist?
    Please help.
    Craig

I just found & purchased a Philips one on Amazon. I got the 6.5" version. The link below is for the 8" version. It got high marks from reviews and many mentioned that it was easy to use with a Mac. Plug and play. They hooked them up with the USB cable to their mac and copied over the files and it's done.

  • Mac compatible - Digital Voice Recorder Advice

    Hello Everyone,
I am looking for advice on a good, mid-range, but professional voice recorder to buy. I have a canon 5D2 and would like to use something like the H4n to record the audio and edit it in post.
Does anyone on this forum have a tip on what to get?
Thank you very much in advance for your help!
    Tupy.

There's many portable recorders on the market now but I've yet to find something better than Sony's products if you're looking for quality.
Check out either the PCM-D50 or the PCM-D10:

Zoom are interesting but the build quality is always on the cheap side.

  • Digital recorders are not Mac compatible are they?

I see digital recorders frequently, but have yet to find one that is Mac compatible. Does anyone know of one, or are you still using tapes?
    John

    Hey John,
Not too many out there, I agree. The only one I could find is pretty darn high end. The Olympus DS-2300. However, at $250, its got a pretty steep price point. But, its got a lot of features and seems pretty nice. Hope this helps!

  • DPS Issue: You do not have a compatible Digital Publishing Plug-in.

Issue:  I have recently upgraded to inDesign 5.5 specifically to use the new DPS tools. I've download the DP tools (v.1.0) that you are directed to online as well as version 1.1.3 of the folio builder panel.
Still, I recieve the following error: You do not have a compatible Digital Publishing Plug-in.
I've tried deleting my Indesign preference files, in addition to performing the keyboard-shortcut to reset your inDesign prefs on app launch.
    Specific details are as follows:
    Mac OS Lion (10.7.1)
    InDesign 7.5.1
    DP tools v.1.0
    Folio Panel Builder v.1.1.3
Any help that could be provided would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Chad Holmes.

Are you sure you downloaded the proper version? There are plugins for CS5 as well as CS5.5.
Where, when are you seeing this error?
There is a dedicated forum for DPS. Please post follow-ups there.

  • Any options for a non-mac-compatible printer?

My Samsung ML-1710 printer is not Mac-compatible (says so clearly on their website). No other options? Just throw my printer out the window and get a new one?

For what (very!) little it is worth, Samsung used to supply OS X compatible drivers for the ML-1710, but they could be hard to find. I own a 1710 & found a driver that worked well with OS 10.4 Tiger at SAMSUNG's Digital World - Support, although it was released in 2004 & listed as supporting 10.3.
The basic problem seems to be that Samsung used a proprietary printing language ("SPL," for Samsung Printer Language) in the 1710 & some of its other low end laser printers & although the Mac drivers for this were supposed to be CUPS compatible, they were not compatible with CUPS support in later Mac OS versions. Samsung USA never officially supported these drivers (which is why you had to get them from an international Samsung website).
The details are fuzzy in my memory but as I remember it, this "SPL2.5" driver also worked with my G5 iMac when it was first upgraded to Leopard 10.5 & even worked when the ML-1710 was connected to my Airport Extreme 802.11n, but after applying one of the later 10.5 updates (10.5.6 ?) it quit working with the Airport. I never got around to seeing if the same was true for a direct USB printer connection to the G5 & I have not tried using this driver with Snow Leopard or with Leopard on any of my Intel Macs, but I doubt it will work.
Eventually, I'll try the solution mentioned by Matt Broughton & try to post my results here, but this is not a high priority for me since I now use a nice Canon MP-620 color inkjet for my (very limited) printing needs.

  • USB Port=Mac-compatible?

A stills digital camera with a USB port is always Mac-compatible? If this is not the case, how can I be sure of said compatibility?
    Thanks in advance.

Hi, Ulises. The Powershot SD600 is listed as an OS X-compatible device in this list; a brief note in this article explaining what that means says:
"...when you plug in your digital camera to the USB port, Mac OS X senses the connection. The preinstalled Image Capture driver tells the Mac you plugged in a camera, and then launches iPhoto to import your pictures."
So you should be able to import pictures directly into iPhoto via the SD600's USB cable. In the worst case — if you find that to be untrue, and you can't figure out a remedy — a $10 card reader will solve the problem. Even if there is no problem importing directly from the camera, a card reader may be desirable, since it would let you perform the import process without running down the camera's battery to power the transfer.

  • Looking for a wireless A4, edge to edge mac compatible printer

Looking for a wireless A4, edge to edge mac compatible printer? can anyone reccomend something which really works well with Mac?
I would get an A3 but I am guessing that A4 edge to edge would be better?
I need edge to edge as I design A4 brochures and I need to make 100% size mock ups.

    Hello gumbsali,
Most or our current model printers are compatible with the Mac OS X Mountain Lion operating system; so we can provide you with the best recommendation, please reply with the following information:
      1.  Will you need to have faxing ability?
      2.  What is the largest size paper you will need to print?
      3.  Will you need the ability to scan 35 mm slides or film?
      4.  Will you need the ability to scan?
      5.  Is there a specific price range you are looking to stay within?
      6.  Will you need the option of using the printer wirelessly?
      7.  How many pages a month do you estimate you will be printing?
      8.  What is the heaviest weight (in lbs) of paper (or cardstock) that you plan on using in the printer?
      9.  Will you need the ability to have the printer interface with an iPad, iPhone or Android phone?
    10.  Will you need the ability to print photos and images directly from a memory card?

  • If I have to format an external hard drive to make it Mac compatible, will it delete all the content in the external hard drive?

If I have to format an external hard drive to make it Mac compatible, will it delete all the content in the external hard drive?

As others have said, the answer to your question is a big YES.  Formatting a drive will delete everything!
To keep your data, yet reformat the drive for optimal Mac compatibility, you will need to:
    1) copy your files to a different hard drive (I would recommend two different locations if you value your data)
    2) repartition/format the external drive
    3) then copy the files back to the external.
You haven't given details but if you need the external to ONLY be compatible with the Mac (and no longer care if if can be read by Windows), then you will want to partition the drive using the GUID partition scheme, and format as the (HFS+) "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" filesystem.  You can do so using the built-in "Disk Utility" application on your Mac (in the Applications/Utilities directory).  Here are instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ph5845
If you need the drive to be compatible with both Mac and Windows computers then please post that so someone can recommend a solution for your specific needs.

  • How do I install my LG Super Multi BLADE Mac compatible external drive without the install disc?

I can't find my install disc! How do I install my LG Super Multi BLADE Mac compatible external drive without the install disc?

You don't have installer discs with that model. What do you need to do? USB and Thunderbolt external drives do not require any special software. If you need to partition and format them, then use Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
