.Mac deleting my messages!?!

Yesterday I had over 400 messgaes in my inbox. I leave them there since there is a lot of business correspondence I reference.
Today I have 54 messages in my inbox; all I have done was run a .mac sync this morning.
The 400 missing messages do not appear in the trash or on the server at .Mac.
I could try and blame the sync, but some of the 54 remaining messages go back as far as June of 06. Why would some messages disappear while others, seemingly random, remain?
Ugh.

Thanks, Allan.
Problem solved. I was accessing my account from another computer (my mother-in-law's new Mini) and I set up new mailboxes for myself on that computer. Apparently, the messages were sitting in a mailbox not yet created on my home computer...
Thank you kindly for your swift response.

  • Iphone deletes sent messages on my mac

Hi guys - I have searched on this subject but to no avail.
When I sync my iPhone with my mac, it deletes all my messages from my Sent Folder on both my Mac and .mac and only keeps the ones on my iPhone (approx 34 messages)
This means if I want to search for an old email that I have sent from my Mac - I cannot find it which could be disastrous!
Is there anyway that I can set it so it doesn't delete messages from my mac or do I just have to turn off syncing mail?

I am sure that your iPhone has absolutely nothing to do with this. Your iPhone and iTunes does not sync messages in Mail. All that is sync'd is simply the account information (name, type, password).
What is more likely happening, is that you have set Mail to not retain sent messages locally, and the server side with sent messages to be auto deleted once sent, or upon quitting Mail. Or you have set up IMAP like settings, in that a deletion on one client (either Mail or iPhone) deletes the message from the server
You only need to sync your Mail accounts one time, then you can turn it off. You would turn it back on, when you modify account settings in Mail, add a new account that you also want on your phone, and you simply don't want to double enter that information again on the iPhone.

  • How can I set up email so that if I delete a message on the iPhone it deletes it on my mac

How can I set up my email so that if I delete a message on my Mac it will also be deleted on my iPhone 6 and iPad

    Why would you want that?
Doing so would defeat the purpose of syncing the email account.
Simply move the message to a folder or leave it in the inbox.

  • How do I delete the message app from my mac?

    I have a late 2009 iMac 21.5" monitor.
I noticed when I upgraded the operating system, Messages was added.
I don't like having messages appear on the iMac.
I've tried to disable messages, by removing all associated accounts.  eg. phone, email. etc,
However, the messages from my iPhone keep appearing on the device.
Is there a way to disable to delete the Messages app?
I have the yosemite operating system (which ever is the latest).
    Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

I am wondering if anyone is seeing my question? This is my first time and I am not sure if I am communicating correctly. If you are seeing the question above regading deleted messages reappearing please reply so I will at least know I am getting the message out.

  • Why can't I delete individual messages on either my iPad or my Mac when I can on mt iPhone?

Why is it that I can delete individual messages on iPhone, but can only delete the entire messages to any one contact on my Mac & iPad?

    Hi,
On the Mac version try Control Clicking the individual messages concerned.
I am not sure why you iPad is reacting differently from your other iOS device.

O ly if the email account is IMAP or exchange based. A POP account will not accomplish this.

  • How to delete gmail messages in Mail for Mac

I am using Mail 7.3 on my Macbook Pro with Mavericks 10.9.5.
I use Gmail for my email.
When I DELETE a message in Gmail it goes into the Gmail Archive (and stays in the All Mail folder)- it does NOT get Deleted.
Gmail help says I need to drag each message to the Trash when using Mail as Delete will not work.
    Really?
This is a drag to do, besides there is no Trash folder.
I have a 'Bin' folder and a 'Deleted Messages' folder so I'm trying to use them.
Still for Mail and Gmail not to be compatible for Delete seems crazy.
I have tried changing the Mailbox Behaviours in Preferences but it seems to make no difference.

I Wonder if your sitting there laughing at us as if there is some big conspiracy about selecti all and deleting all from our iPhones and iPads.
    The conspiracy.
Why can we not just not select all in the mail inbox and then delete all, if we do not want to delete every single one of them then deselect the few that we do not want to delete instead of having to select the thousands we do want delete individually.
And if you do make a mistake and delete the wrong emails by selecting all, then go to your trash and reinstate the ones you did not want to delete
I think 99% of us know how to DELETE emails individually, as you put it.
That's just sarcasm and if not then then your not fully understanding the question asked.
I would also say that probably 99% of us want to be able to select all and delete all if that's what we desire.
I would just like a honest answer of why we cannot select all delete all rather than giving me a load of rubbish about encase we delete something we didn't want to delete.

  • I just purchased my I MAC, and set up my aol and gmail to the desktop icon.  After deleting some messages tonight, I tried to shut down from the menu and received the message "Shutdown canceled because mail application is still open"--icon not working.

I just purchased this IMac yesterday, and set up my two email accounts to the mail icon today.   This evening, after deleting some messages, I was not able to open the mail icon nor shutdown, restart, or log off the computer from the menu.  I keep receiving the message "shutdown canceled by mail application".  Really frustrating.

Press Alt, Command and Esc keys to open Force Quit. Then, on the window that will show up, choose Mail and close it. Finally, you will be able to turn off your iMac

  • Can't delete email messages from some folders in Mail

I CAN delete email messages from header Folder "MAILBOXES" (drafts, sent, trash); however, there's another folder header below called "ON MY MAC", where I save various emails by dragging them to a subfolder, and when I try to delete these, I get this message:
"The message '(subject of email)' could not be moved to the mailbox 'Deleted Messages --- On My Mac' The destination mailbox 'Deleted Messages --- On My Mac' does not allow messages to be moved to it."
The only way to delete from this folder is to hold Control, select from the dropdown Move to, then Trash, and then one of three sub-trash folders (the one that has my email address) -- this is a pain to do.
Mail is just not working properly any more (I just added 2 other posts - one about crashing, another about all my Fonts missing)
    thank you in advance!

    Colin,
Have you checked Mail>Window>Previous Recipients for the old address? If not, attempt to "Remove From List" at that location and let us know what happens.

  • How can i link my E-mail with my iPad in a way that i can delete my messages from my email inbox server not from my iPad inbox only?

How can i link my E-mail with my iPad in a way that i can delete my messages from my email inbox server also not from my iPad inbox only?
Because when i delete emails from my iPad inbox, it will be deleted on my iPad only but when i check my email inbox server from the browser its not deleted!
So how can i set up this link so when i delete any email from my iPad it will be deleted from my email inbox server also?

    Hi Pierrot10,
Insert your backup disc (or plug your external hd), then open Mail.
In the File menu, click *Import Mailboxes* and follow the steps for a *Mail for Mac OS X* transfer.
Navigate to your CD/DVD's or external HD's backup and hit "OK".
This should create a new "Imported" folder in Mail with all your old messages in it, that you can then rearrange as you wish, creating new mailboxes etc.

  • Mail.app - Delete all messages in mailboxes

I have a POP account whose mailboxes show up under ON MY MAC in Mail.app. Say, I have the following mailbox and its submailboxes:
    Mailbox1
      submailbox1 (containing 50 messages)
      submailbox2 (containing 20 messages)
      submailbox100 (containing 34 messages)
It is tedious, to say the least, to go into each of the 100 submailboxes, select all messages, and delete them. Is there a way (e.g., Terminal command) to delete all messages in these submailboxes at once?

    Brett,
I'm assuming you're running Exchange on-box with Unity as voice mail only solution? You can still get to OWA from the Unity server. Or, if Exchange is off-box, you can still get to OWA from on the Exchange server.
Just type in localhost/exchange this should bring up the OWA interface for you.

  • Create a rule to delete older messages in a folder

I'm finding housekeeping in my Mac Mail time consuming and wanted to create a rule for a particular folder to delete messages older than say 2 weeks. I've tried googling and looking around for help but I can't find much.
I also have another issues I have a iMac and a Macbook pro and find I have to manage 2 inboxes, how does everyone else do this if I have read a message on my macbook pro why do I then have to see it as unread on my iMac.  My machines are setup for syncing and I have a mobile me account?  This should be so much easier.  Am hoping iCloud might solve this, I only want to read an e-mail once.
I'm now on Lion, any help or advice would really be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Catherine

Rules apply automatically only to new, incoming messages. It is easy enough to make a rule to delete old messages, but you would have to run it manually. (To create a rule, go to the Rules pane in Mail Preferences. The process is pretty self-explanatory, and much easier to do than to explain.)
Your Inbox behavior is exactly the way a POP account works — your email program simply downloads messages from the server. The server has no idea which messages you have or have not read. If your mail service provides IMAP, that is what you want. Set up an IMAP account, if you can, and deactivate the POP account. Not all email providers include IMAP, however.

  • When deleting a message in mail, how do you get it to advance to the next message? whenever i delete a message it goes back to the previous message.

when trying to delete a message in mail, i would prefer to advance to the next message. i delete a message and the curser goes back to an earlier message. i usually delete the most recent messages first.

First of all, you've posted in the Snow Leopard forum, but your profile says you're running Leopard, not Snow Leopard. What version of Mac OS X are you really running? You should always be sure that your profile matches the forum you're posting in, otherwise the "solution" to your problem may be totally ineffective.
Part of your problem is that deleting Mail messages depends on how you have them ordered. If they are listed in Descending Date order (most recent at the top), and you want to delete a series of consecutive emails from an earlier time, you should select the last one in that group and press the Delete key; with each one that's deleted, the selection will move to the next one up the list. You could also select the first one in the group, then Shift-click on the last one in the group and press Delete to get rid of them in one step.
If you have them listed in Date Ascending order (most recent at the bottom), you would have to select the oldest message(s) you want to delete and select it (or them) and press the Delete key, and the selection would move down the list to the next most recent message in the window.
