Mac display card

I usually play PC games over bootcamp XP, after a few new gen games release, I realized that my MacPro is time to get a little upgrade. The major problem I guess is the display card, the 7300 GT can't stand for high graphics, so I'd want to ask weather it is possible to use PC graphic cards such as 8800, 7950. If the above solution doesn't work, how about using other Mac's display card? appericate your help =)

You are best off with Apple Radeon X1900. Only cards with an EFI BIOS work in OS X.
If you just want to run Windows, then yes, you could use off the shelf non-EFI PC graphics card of your choice. make sure you get the right cables to tap into the power adapter, most high end cards need to and the Mac Pro may have different plugs (there are two, take a look).
The ideal is to get the X1900 as BTO for $249. Otherwise, Apple Store is about the only place and is $399 (the Radeon X2900 512MB sells for $449 as a comparison).
Also, there is 7-10 weeks showing on Apple Store, so my speculation is there is a short supply currently.

And is there driver updates for anyone using the all-in-ones HP printers...has anyone been able to use their scanners since the update? and has the dual screen support been added to avoid the blue screen on startup?

The ATI Radeon 9600 PC/Mac edition 256 MB should work in the MDD G4. It has two DVI ports (one is dual-link and can support a 30" display). You will need adapters for ADC displays.

No, you can't upgrade the GPU on a MaBook Pro - it's soldered onto the logic board.

  • Two ADC 17" mac displays w/Mac Pro?

I have a pair of the older 17" Mac displays with ADC connectors. I used them with my old MDD G4, which came with a video card that had DVI and ADC connectors. So, I obviously had to buy an ADC/DVI converter so I could use the DVI port that the computer came with (one of the monitors just plugged into the ADC.)
Now that I have the new Mac Pro, with two DVI connectors on the card, does anyone think there would be a problem buying another ADC/DVI converter so I can use two monitors with the Mac Pro? I just wanted to make sure.

"• the 27" is directly connected to the other MDP port.
    • One of the 20" monitors is using the MDP adapter into the 5770.
    • When I try to hook up the other 20" to the DVI port on the 5770 I get nothing.
Note: If you are using an Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter, only two displays are supported across the three ports.
If you are connecting three displays, any DVI displays must be connected to either the Dual-Link DVI port or must use an Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link Adapter.
You MUST use All "Active" or "Powered" Mini DisplayPort connector such as the Apple Dual Link, or you can only use two displays

  • Have 21" mac display, should I buy mini or pro mac?

I have a 21" mac display but my pro mac was destroyed, should I buy new pro or mini mac?

If your Pro was pretty old and only a 4 core version,
circa 2008 or before, then the current crop of Minis
will probably not be that much of a difference, depending
on the graphics card you had in the Pro.
The Minis with the HD3000 integrated graphics are okay
for most general purpose uses and apps that are not
very graphics intensive.  The model with the Radeon
chip is an improvement, but only has 256k dedicated
    VRAM.
If the Pro was newer or was an 8 core or more, you will
    be very disappointed in performance.
Perhaps your best bet since moving from a Pro, is to
sell your display and get yourself an i7 equipped iMac.
Only 8 core Pros outperform them.  The new topend
Macbook Pros are real screamers as well.

Matrox MXO requires a Mac system with the following system configuration:
    * Mac OS X v10.4.7 or later.
    * DVD-ROM drive to install the MXO software.
    * Free USB port.
    * Display card with a secondary DVI-I connector. Must be able to display
    1920×1200 @ 60 Hz.
Note: You must have a secondary DVI-I connector for use with Matrox MXO, and connect your primary DVI monitor to a different connector on your display card. If you are using an AGP display card, it needs to run at a speed of 4X or faster.
    * DVI monitor that supports a native display resolution of 1920×1200 is recommended, such as the 23-inch Apple Cinema Display.
    * 512 MB physical memory (RAM) if you're using MXO with a QuickTime-based video editing program (Apple recommends 2 GB for HD editing).

  • I have a G5 PPC Dual 20" Mac Displays - I want to incorporate a Mac Mini and still use my keyboard and Monitors and Switch back and forth. How do I do this?

I have a G5 PPC Dual 20" Mac Displays - I want to incorporate a Mac Mini and still use my keyboard and Monitors and Switch back and forth. How do I do this?

    The Hatter,
I am a novice at Mac so I read all I can.  From what I understand the NEC monitors I bought require Display Port for their maximum performance.  The GTX 680 only has DVI outputs.  Difference from what I understand is larger bandwidth with the DP.
You said I have the 4000 for CUDA.  I am not all that familiar with CUDA and when I do read about it I do not understand it.
A concern I have is, that if I connect the 2 high end NEC monitors via the 5770, using it's 2 Display Ports I would have nothing connected to the 4000.  Is the 4000 doing anything with nothing connected?  I read where in a PC system the 2 cards would interact but in a Mac system they do not.
Bottom line, as I see it, the 4000 will not be useful at all to me, since I want a dual monitor set-up.
So far the 5870 seems the best choice, higher band width than the 5770, and it has 2 Display Ports to optimize the NEC monitors.
I'm not sure how fine I am splitting hairs, nor do I know how important those hairs are.  I am just trying to set up a really fast reliable system that will mainly be used for CS6 and LR4.  Those NEC monitors are supposed to be top notch.

  • Xserve 2006 pcie display card support

I just got a second hand xserve 1.1 I want to upgrade the display so I can use it play some game
Where can I get those graphic cards? Around how much?

10 times the same image or 10 different images?
A single Mac can do 8 displays and that would be a Mac Pro. Graphically it is your better choice anyway. As mentioned, the Xserve form factor is designed for rack mounts and not small by any means.
If you need to display 10 times the same image, you'll be much better off connecting a distribution amplifier that takes 1 image and simply displays that on 10 screens.
    Things to consider:
    1. Make sure that your displays have the proper inputs. Some models do better with VGA then DVI/HDMI when it comes to positioning/overscan. Since Mac video cards do digital and analog OUT, try a single display setting first.
    2. Make sure your images are constantly updating if you are using plasmas. They are prone to screen burn in (depending on contrast and image in as little as a day). If still selecting displays, get LCD's instead; they can't burn in.
    3. There are specialty video cards/extenders for doing this kind of multi panel display. Needed if you want to get fancy of what is shown. Very expensive though.
    4. Distribution amplifiers will be your cheapest option. Look at Gefen or check out monoprice.com. You could get 2* 8 port DVI or VGA amps and drive them with a single video card and use up to 16 displays (or 2 times 8 displays).
    Hope this helps...

  • Which display card should I configure in MacPro

    All,

MBP 17" 2G RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Can't back to PC platform anymore

The ATI X1900XT beats the QuadroFX in some (few) game benchmarks, actually.
Be careful when you reference PC benchmarks and translate them to a Mac environment. Especially with ATI graphics cards. ATI have a nasty little habit of under-clocking their Mac chipsets to maintain profitability with Mac specific cards. So what goes on a PC is not necessarily the case on a Mac. Also, performance is variable when it comes to the driver. again you should expect variance here.
Remember, the X1900 costs $500 on the street - it's no budget card.
Compared the the Quadro it's a bargain although that's beside the point… no-one here is considering the X1900 a cheap card rather the Quadro is an expensive one.
and the Mac Pro is aimed at the high-end gamer as it will deliver far greater game performance (for Universal app games) than any other Mac.
True… you'll get the best gaming performance with a Mac Pro than any other Mac before it. Having said that, this does not mean it's aimed at gamers. If it were you would have seen a version with an Extreme Edition Conroe rather than a dual processor Woodcrest.

  • Run Mid 2012 MacPro Without Display Card

    Hi,
I have a new 12-Core 3.06 MacPro and I need to utilize both 8x PCI slots (1 & 2) as well as one or both of the 4x PCI slots (3 &4).
Does anyone know if a New Mid 2012 MacPro can run without a Display Card and more importantly with a USB to VGA DisplayLink Adapter?
I was looking at this one in particular: http://www.startech.com/AV/USB-Video-Adapters/Professional-USB-VGA-External-Dual -or-Multi-Monitor-Video-Adapter~USB2VGAPRO
I don't care about video performance, as it will be connected to a KVM in a rack.
The MacPro will be running Mountain Lion Server.
    Thanks in advance.

Just an update for those who may come across this post - that you can run the Mac Pro 2012 with a USB adapter. I used a Startech USB to VGA adapter.
The caveats to consider. The adapters require a driver installation. This means the monitor will not display anything until the OS has started loading the drivers. What this means is, if your drive is failing and you cannot get it to boot properly, you won't be able to see anything going on since the driver hasn't loaded yet. Also, if you decide to boot into another OS partition, it better have the driver loaded as well. I'm also not sure single user mode will work - but have not tested that yet.
I've found myself some late model Nvidia single-height vid cards that still work great in the newest Mac Pros and are using them when I need both 16x PCIe slots and have slot 3 or 4 available. Really wish there were still options to purchase single-height vid cards with the newest Mac Pros.

  • Additional Display Card?

I see Mac Pros can have multiple display cards adding up to a total of 2GB of video RAM. If I have another GeForce 6800 display card, can I add it to my Power Mac G5 and make a total of 512MB of video RAM?
I find my G5 a bit slow when handling large image files using Photoshop CS3. Is it because my RAM is only DDR400 or will adding an extra display card help?

Hi! I'm not an expert in this area but there are a couple of things that could be slowing you down. One is a hard drive that's getting full and the other could be the video card.THIS page may help you figure out graphic card issue. Tom

  • Radeon 9600 Pro Mac & PC Card

    Hello,
I just got my Radeon 9600 Pro Mac & PC Card in the mail today.
I bummed to find that it did not come with a DVI to ADC adapter.
I have a apple 17" display that I would like to hook my new card up to.
I shopped around on the apple site's shop and found two products
    that may cure my situation.
One was a simple adapter cable for $29.99
The other was a bigger converter product for $99.99
    Which way should I go?

    Mitch,
If your monitor is one of the clear plastic generation types then the power comes through the ADC cable from your Mac. DVI connectors do not provide power, therefore the simple adapter cable probably won't work for you.
You will have to go with the converter for $99.99.

  • T410 display card error.[Help!!]

    Hi,
My laptop is T410 2522PB7. I have 2 critical issues.
    1. After i upgraded the display card driver to latest version. i got a error at my daily use(especially when i watching a movie or playing game). BTW. Cannot attach image from my HDD?
    the error said:
'The display dirver stopped responding and has recovered
Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 257.38 stopped responding and has successfully recoverd.'
this error kept buging me for a whole month. even after i reinstalled the OS or last version display card driver(189.55)
    2. Sound volume always go up and down, left and right when i playing something that provide sound. Also i have tried latest and last version driver.
Could someone help me with these problem please?
    Many thanks.

I'm having the same sort of issues with the display driver crashing. I have gotten the "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered: Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Driver, Version 257.38 stopped responding and has successfully recovered." error several times. The crash is usually proceeded by performance degradation under simple tasks like taking notes. Typically this has only happened when I’m not docked and thus not using my external monitor. I haven't noticed the audio issues mentioned in the other forum.
This issue has been unaffected by updates to both Windows (SP1) or the Power Manager
    Model - T410, 2522-W7N
    BIOS version - 6IET68WW (1.28)
    OS loaded (ex. Win 7 Ulti x64) - Win 7 Prof 64 SP1
Lenovo default OS? - No (was preloaded with 32)
Issue happen on Battery / AC / Both? Only noticed on A/C, but don't use battery much
    Updates from TVSU completed? yes
    Updates from Windows Updates? yes
Power Manager Version – sorry, not sure. it’s the most up-to-date version
    Power Management Driver
    RAM installed (brand and 1 x 4gb, 1 x 2gb, 2 x 2gb?) -2 x 2gb (I think)
Any error notification before issue occurred? No, byt Windows generates an error report everytime the driver crashes
3rd party application installed before issue happen? Don’t think so…
Any particular application which is running on the time this issue arises? It’s often pretty low demand stuff like taking notes in OneNote, with FF 4 and Outlook running in the background. Most recently I got a BSOD coming our of standby that said the video card was at fault.
Docked on station? Any USB attached? When taking notes, just a Lenovo USB mouse.
Additional comments which you think might help.
Are you able to recreate the issue on demand? No, it just happens some times out of the blue.
