Mac display mirroring...

My emac monitor has been dodgey for a couple of years, with sporadic raster shift problems -lasting for a couple of weeks at a time, and starting if its shut down for any ammount of time, or in hot weather.
This time is more serious though as I keep losing the screen completely - just a black screen. So I've got the cable for mirroring the monitor.
But... I can get it to work.
I have 2 other monotors..
an old apple multiple scan 15 display, which just sits there and does nothing (power is on and as I turn on te emac its power light flickers, but no display appears..
and a 17 inch CRT 'borrowed' off my wifes PC. when I turn on the emac its display shows the message "out of range" and sais it only goes up to 70mhz, and the emac display is 72mhz... So does this mean I cant use it as I cant seem to adjust the mhz on the emac?
Any help or advise appreciated, or I'll have to use the wifes PC, and I really sont want to do that (it takes at least 5 tries to get it to boot up properly....)
thanks
Andrew

Okay, so I've got a 17" tft display and hooked it up with the apple mini vga lead. And it works. but the new screen is 1280 x 1024 and the emac monitor is 1280 x 960... so the new monitor is stretching the screen display out by 64 pixels to fill the screen, resulting in everything being oblong when it should be square, and all the text being a bit blurry..
Is there any way of adjusting the output from the emac so that its 1280 x 1024, or making the new monitor leave a gap at the top and bottom and only displaying the 1280 x 960?
cheers.

  • Mac OS X 10.7.4 ARD Issues When Observing/Controlling Computers with Display Mirroring/Different Resolutions

As if Macs in an enterprise environment could be more difficult to manage, now since our upgrade to OS X 10.7.(4) I have lost the ability to remotely control numerous Macs in our organization. The issue occurs when attempting to control a Mac running OS X 10.7.(4) that has their Display mirrored and the resolution does not match on both displays. What happens is that I can see the remote screen however it does not fill the entire Observe/Control window. Instead, the remote screen takes up about 50% of the window, the rest is black but sometimes will display a mirror image of the remote screen in the black area. What?! Yeah, I've attached a screenshot because this is ridiculous. The real problem is that I cannot control the computer when it has reached this state, the mouse no longer functions properly, it is not clicking where I place the mouse, etc. I have made sure that I have all updates including ARD Client/Server updates. I even tried VNC but as I have come to find out that is a whole other issue (doesn't work, sends me to the login screen, etc).
    So here's what I need:
    - A patch that is going to fix this issue
    - A script to run that is going to change the remote screen resolution (I still have the ability to run remote scripts, etc. simply not Observe/Control)
    Ideas?
    <Image Edited by Host>

I found a way to work around this issue.  Not a fix but a work around.
This is little application some one wrote to toggle mirroring on and off.
    Mirror Displays
If you put this application in the client computer's /Aplications folder
you can use ARD or SSH to run the app and switch modes.
The problem only occurs for me when a client is set to mirror dissimilar displays with different aspect ratios.
I am only seeing this in Lion 10.7.4 and 10.7.5
    Hope it helps someone....

  • Why weren't we told that display mirroring would not work with a Mac older than 12 months?

Why weren't we told that display mirroring would not work with a Mac older than 12 months?

You were, just not directly. If you go to apple's mountain lion webpage, you'll see this note at the bottom:
    1. AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer).

  • Display Mirroring Broken

I am running two displays, both Samsung, one is 27" one is 24". Prior to Mavricks OS, there was no problem with display mirroring. With Mavricks frequently, many times a day, when opening a document, displays are mirrored, no content shows on either monitor. Shutting off mirroring brings the requested file up on the main monitor.
The 27" is using HDMI via the integrated Display Port and the 24" is using the Dual-link DVI port.
A discussion on Other World Computing (i.e. macsales.com) the day after release of Mavricks validated this problem. Apple says they haven't heard about it, go figure.

This is the glossy marketing description of the new Multiple Displays features in Mavericks:
    Multiple Displays
Desktop with menu bar and Dock
Each display connected to your Mac has a desktop with its own menu bar, so there’s nothing to configure. The Dock is available when you move your cursor to the bottom of the screen, letting you easily access menus and apps from anywhere.
    Full-screen apps on each display
You can use full-screen apps on each display connected to your Mac. Swipe on the trackpad or mouse to switch between full-screen apps.
    Multidisplay Mission Control
OS X Mavericks makes it easy to manage the apps running on each display. Mission Control shows you everything that’s on each display, including windows on the desktop and full-screen apps. If you want to move an app from one display to another, simply drag its thumbnail to the desired display.

  • Display Mirroring shortcut??

I have my Mac connected to my 55" Samsung via HDMI and use it as my primary monitor, not an extended view. However when i turn the TV off it reverts back to the laptop as being the primary monitor. I then have to get up and open the laptop and reselecct the Display Mirroring. Anyone know how I can change that or a keyboard shortcut???

Yes, I answered my own question in the post above yours.
I connected my MB to my external display as usual, restarted in SL install, clamshelled my MB by closing it, then plugging a USB device into it with the monitor still on, kicking the MB back into action via the external display as screen 1, you can now open the laptop and use the keyboard and mouse; i chose to use usb mouse/keyboard though and just followed the install instructions as per usual.
    Easy really

  • IMac won't offer display mirroring option when connecting to HDTV with Thunderbolt to HDMI cable

I have an iMac, and am trying to connect to my HDTV to use as a second display (mirror). I am using a cable with a Thunderbolt connector at one end, and an HDMI on the other. I know the cable works because I have used it with my MacBook on other TVs. When I use this on my MacBook, I simply open displays, and between the tabs marked "Display" and "Color" there is always an "Arrangement" tab to select. When I try this same setup on my iMac, the only two tabs I can see are "Display" and "Color" - the option to mirror disdplay (or recognize the HDTV in any way) simply doesn't exist.
I would welcome any help. Thanks much, Doug.

OK, yes your Mid 2011 has a Thunderbolt port.
Reset > the System Management Controller
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
    3. Wait fifteen seconds.
    4. Attach the computer's power cord.
    5. Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
and the > NVRAM and PRAM
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3. Turn on the computer.
    4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6. Release the keys.
Then try connecting the TV to the iMac.

You can, however, view the Mac display on your iPhone. Or stream video and music from your Mac, too.
Google +"Telekenesis" +"iphone" for the details.

  • Can I extend a MBP 15" to mac display and  another DVI monitor

    Hi,
I have a MBP 15" and I currently use mac display as my external monitor for my MBP via Thunderbolt. Can I also extend it to another monitor with DVI ? Is there any converters that can do that for me.
    Thanks

You should also ask this in the MacBook Pro forum. This is the forum for the 13” white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010 before ThunderBolt. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

  • Two ADC 17" mac displays w/Mac Pro?

I have a pair of the older 17" Mac displays with ADC connectors. I used them with my old MDD G4, which came with a video card that had DVI and ADC connectors. So, I obviously had to buy an ADC/DVI converter so I could use the DVI port that the computer came with (one of the monitors just plugged into the ADC.)
Now that I have the new Mac Pro, with two DVI connectors on the card, does anyone think there would be a problem buying another ADC/DVI converter so I can use two monitors with the Mac Pro? I just wanted to make sure.

"• the 27" is directly connected to the other MDP port.
    • One of the 20" monitors is using the MDP adapter into the 5770.
    • When I try to hook up the other 20" to the DVI port on the 5770 I get nothing.
Note: If you are using an Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter, only two displays are supported across the three ports.
If you are connecting three displays, any DVI displays must be connected to either the Dual-Link DVI port or must use an Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link Adapter.
You MUST use All "Active" or "Powered" Mini DisplayPort connector such as the Apple Dual Link, or you can only use two displays

That adapter only takes the analog pins from a DVI connector and connects the to a SCART connector. The Apple LCDs need digital signals.
I did hear that an official DVI lead for gamecube

    If it provides digital DVI at 1920 x 1200 non-interlaced 60Hz.
Would it just not work full stop?
They might just be sending analog though a DVI-A, which will not wiork with a digital display.
Would i be better off getting eyeTV?
If the GameCube provides video that works with a standard TV, it should work with the EyeTV, but only at TV resolution, of course. You would want the EyeTV 250 or EyeTV Hybrid, not the EyeTV 200, to avoid video delay.

  • Will the first gen ipad support display mirroring via airplay when IOS5 is released?

From what I have read, IOS5 will support display mirroring on the ipad 2.. Is this likely to be added to the first gen ipad ? If so then great, but if not, why not? Im sure if you can wirelessly stream music and movies to an Apple TV device (connected via wifi) from the ipad one, then surely you must be able to use display mirroring ?

In case you didn't click on the link above that is on the Apple site:
    AirPlay Mirroring for iPad 2
Wow your audience in the board room, classroom, or living room. AirPlay now supports video mirroring. Which means you can wirelessly — and securely — stream whatever’s on your iPad 2 to your HDTV via Apple TV. Everyone in the room sees exactly what’s on your iPad display up there on the big screen — even when you rotate iPad from portrait to landscape or zoom in and out on photos.2
So unless you were told be Steve Jobs that the iPad 1 will also do AirPlay Mirroring it really doesn't matter what you have been told, you are posting at best speculation but more likely misinformation.
And no, don't have anything better to do.
