Mac doesn't recognise Airport device

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I get my Mac to recognize its got Airport?
I have a Mac Powerbook running OSX 10.4.11
I’ve just got Airport Express 4.2
I plugged it into the power supply and plugged the cable into the airport socket. It started flashing amber. I pressed the reset button the amber went solid for a few seconds but then returned to flashing amber.
I then went to airport setup assistant but when I clicked continue I got the message ‘no airport networks were found’
I then tried clicking on the airport symbol on the desktop (top right) and entered my broadband providers password etc and found that I get an internet connection just fine.
My problem is that I want to set a password to protect my broadband access but am unable to do so because Airport Set up Assistant still doesn’t work. I click continue and get the message ‘no new airport networks were found.
If I try the other option, which is ‘change settings on an existing airport base station’. I get as far as ‘Network Setup Select the Airport Base Station you want to modify’ however my airport base station isn’t on the list, its just blank. Clicking on ‘scan again’ doesn’t produce anything either, in fact it refuses to scan at all.
i have tried resetting the airport device and also the modem. I have unplugged the adjacent LAM telephone line and disconnected the Sky Broadband cable (in case any of these ere causing interference) no joy
I've also tried reloading the disc and setting up Airport again but it still can't find the Airport device.
Any help would be much appreciated as my broadband connection is now rather slow (not sure whether this is because of the faulty connection or all my neighbours using my broadband service for free!)

i am having a similiar problem to this:
my router crapped out the other day, so i decided to use my AirExpress as a temporary stand-in until i can get a new router. (I am thinking the Extreme!)
I thought it would be a simple solution seeing as how the installation was so easy. i have been fiddling with this thing for the last 2 hours.
before, it was hooked into my wireless router and creating it own wireless network and it worked fine. now, i have it plugged into the cable modem directly and i can only get it to work when its in the factory mode. as soon as i put a password on it and restart it, my computer can't find it anymore.
hmm...not sure what to do...

    See Here for
    Frozen or unresponsive iPhone
Try this first... You will not lose any Data...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...

If that does not work... try letting the battery fully drain.
Then Charge for an Hour and try the suggestions again.

  • Mac doesn't recognise certain CDs

I have recently purchased 3 cds and my mac doesn't seem to recognise them and just spits them out!
Why is this and is there a solution? Other CDs are fine.

I don't think there is anything about them being "new" as such.  It is not like they need to be broken in or anything.
When I see this kind of issue I first wonder if it is a drive going bad.  You'd then expect it to be more consistent with certain types of CD (usually DVDs show issues first, then RW CDs and home-burned).
You could try a drive cleaning disc, just in case it happens to be chance it is happening with these particular discs.  I have also seen people mention gently using compressed air, though I'd be worried about driving dust in deeper.
I guess you could try a SMC reset. Again that doesn't explain why only certain CDs but I have read about it curing some optical drive issues.

  • Apple Mac doesn't recognise me as a user on my external hard drive

    Hi,
I was wondering if someone may be able to help me? I use my Seagate external hard drive as my time machine back up but I cannot save or delete anything on there. On the hard drive, I am listed as a user but it doesn't recognise me as a user.
Can anyone provide instructions how to change this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Chris

Check out your alternatives like bootable clones that are fully accessible, even from other Mac's and PC's (with MacDrive installed) so your data isn't trapped by TimeMachine.

  • Mac doesn't recognise peripherals

My new new Macbook will not recognise my marantz voice recorder.  The icon comes up, but when I click on it it tells me that the device has not been properly disconnected rather than opening it.  The device works well on my old G4.  Can anybody help?

Thanks for your help Templeton Peck.  I checked on the system profile which recognised the device and then went to disk utility and clicked on repair.  It now seems to be working fine.  Thanks all the same your comment on drivers gave me the idea to look in the right place.

  • I have downloaded ios8 and my phone has frozen on Apple screen. The MAC no longer recognises this device. Please help!

I have downloaded iOS8 onto my iPhone 4S - the phone has frozen on the Apple screen (and it keeps going black). It is also no longer recognised as a device on my MAC...please help

Make sure airplane mode is off and wifi is on. If no go try restoring in itunes and if that fails you will most likely need to call apple or go to an apple store to get a repair

  • Qosmio G30-163: Windows media encoder doesn't recognise video device

I cannot get Windows media encoder to recognise my video camera connected to S-video port (Qosmio G30-163).
I get similar problem with Marratech pro webconferencing application (it crashes after 15-20 second if I try to use it - during the time the application is frosen - in configuration I can see the test picture/video).
If I use InterVideo WinDVD Creator 2 Platinum bundled software for capturing video it works just fine.

    Hi Nesko
In my opinion you see this issue a little bit wrong. You are right about some standards but you must know that every hardware manufacturers dont care much about that. Other way Toshiba as notebook producer can not test all cams and external devices with the unit and also all software you can find on the market. It is a mission impossible.
Qosmio is a multimedia unit and if you read specification about that you will see that you can do everything listed there (watch TV, connect camcorder and create own DVD movies etc.). Every one of us has some specific and unique wishes but nobody can guarantee that everything you want will work.
For example: since almost a year I have Qosmio G20. I have tested it with my camcorder, with VHS recorder using it with preinstalled and also third part software and for every situation I have found solution and it work somehow.
I really dont know which cam you have but if you want to have web conferencing without any problems you should by USB webcam with highest resolutions and frames per second. Web cam will be recognized and installed very fast and you can use it any time. Sorry but web conferencing via MCE and cam is not known to me.
Anyway you can try to contact support. Maybe they have some magic\solution. If you will find out how it works please write again. I am really interested if something like that is possible.
    Good luck!

  • My Mac doesn't recognise Ipod Shuffle 6th when I connect it

    Hi,
I have a problem wuth my new Ipod shuffle 6th generation.
Whan I connect it to my Imac (with Itunes upgrated) it isn't recognised. How can I do?
    Thank you

First of all, try a USB port that is built into the Mac, in preference to a USB hub or a USB port on the keyboard. Then, check if the LED is doing anything when it is plugged into that port, and wait a few minutes before concluding it isn't doing anything, as the battery may need to be charged for a while before it starts up.

  • Mac doesn't recognise my hp officejet 6500A via usb?

For some reason whenever I connect my HP officejet 6500A to my MacBook Air via USB, it doesn't seem to recognize it?
A few things I've tried included going to System Preferences-->Printers-->Clicking Add Printer -->IP and entering the printer's host name (since the IP address says not available). The irritating thing is that beforehand, the printer was being recognized by the MacAir but was "offline", so I deleted it in an attempt to add it again but to no avail. Does anyone know how to correct this??
Another thing is that the printer says not connected to a network and I don't know how to make it connect to a network.

You may have to see about getting later drivers from the manufacturer
web site for use in the printer, and unless you need to use it otherwise,
the USB should not require any IP or MAC settings for it to work.
Is the printer capable of wireless printing?
Just curious, since that'd be a handy option.
Has this printer ever worked with your MB/Air?
The problem may be the setting for network could rely on Ethernet cable
(if not wireless capable)  then the IP or MAC address would make sense.
I've never set up an Ethernet printer; that would be part of a network,
if set up wrong, it still may appear as an error or failed network item.
Are there Mac instructions with the printer? Usually they have quick-setup
instructions and a larger document or booklet of other featured instructions.
Usually Officejet printers work rather well with Mac OS X.
And aren't that difficult to set them up...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • I was led to believe a Xbox game pad can be used on an iMac to play call of duty, yet my mac doesn't recognise it

I was led to believe that an Xbox game pad can be used to play call of duty black ops on the iMac. I cannot seem to get mine to work. Is there an app or something needed for the computer to recognise it ?

I think Call of Duty doesn't support controllers due to the balance implications in multiplayer.

  • Hoe to open a file mac doesn't recognise

I need to open a remote management link on my macbook pro. It won't let me as it says the developer cannot be confirmed. How can I force it open? It's for Samsung.

Sorry, it is a bit vague...Its a remote management system for Samsung, I was on the phone with them and they were going to remote manage my mac as I have an issue with my phone. The file is "RcEngMgr" If that makes any sense to you?   As I said when I try to open it so they can connect to my computer, its saying it cannot open the file as the developer cannot be confirmed. The guy at Samsung said he thinks I need to open it as the administrator. I tried pressing ctrl when opening it as well, but the same thing happened.
Would really appreciate if you can help?

  • Mac won't recognise Nikon D80

I'm trying to upload photos from a Nikon D80 I've had for several years, but haven't used lately. When I connect it using the Nikon supplied USB cable, the camera display indicates it's connected to a computer, but the Mac doesn't recognise there's a camera connected to it. This problem occurs on my MacBook Pro and also on my iMac. It also occurs whether I use Aperture or iPhoto. Aperture version is 3.4.5. I conclude there's a connection problem between camera and MacOS, but I don't know how to diagnose or correct it.

As i said I'm not a Nikon user so I might be way off base but I downloaded the manual for the D80 and under the section on connecting to a computer is where they mention the different modes when connected.
If you don;t have the manual you can get it here Product Manual in pdf format. Look for the section Connecting to a Computer under Reference. If you download the pdf manual open it in Preview it is easier to move around in it there then in Safari.
If the camera has been in limited use for that long it is possible something got reset in it. I'd give that section a look to see if it helps.
If in the past the camera showed as a device on the desktop that indicates to me the camera should be set to Mass Storage so look in the manual for how to get to that setting in the camera.
    good luck

  • My Macbook doesn't recognise the startup disk

I started having problems with Yosemite and lion (installed in the same hard drive, different partitions) so i erase all and instal mavericks, the macbook is late 2009 stock but i don't have startup disk, when i install mavericks it tells me that wont boot and it went an error trying to install, so i am able to boot with the alt key but my mac doesn't recognise de boot disk, when i try to select the startup disk on preferences it tells me: "You can’t change the startup disk to the selected disk. The bless tool was unable to set the current boot disk.", what i can do, i can boot with the alt key but it doesn't boot automatically.

If you erase a drive, then in order to install Lion or later you must first install Snow Leopard 10.6.8. You can install Snow Leopard using the installer discs that came with your computer when it was new. You can then update the version of Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 by downloading the combo updater.

  • ITunes freezes and doesn't recognise iPhone

Hi, I've got an issue with my iPhone 3G running on iOS 4.0.1. Everytime I connect it to my PC (running on Windows 7 32-bit), iTunes freezes for a few minutes and doesn't recognise the device. I've been searching for the solution for a couple of days now and have found the following thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1141495&start=75&tstart=0
Fix provided by BeeBopp work for me but only until I reboot my PC. Then I have the same situation - having iPhone connected to PC, iTunes freezes and doesn't recognise the device - so I need to go to Device Manager and update the drivers manually even though they seem to have been installed correctly (I have Apple Mobile Device on my list before I update the drivers), but I need to point Windows to use the drivers from
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers\usbaapl.inf
    I have already tried:
-completely removing iTunes and its configuration files
-reinstalling iTunes (the newest available version)
-removing iPhone from the devices list and reinstalling Apple drivers
Nothing works - everytime I reboot PC, I need to update drivers manually.
Do you have any idea what's causing that? Thanks
