MAC Drive software

Does anyone know or have experience of this software?
http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive/
I have been given a drive from a MAC that evidently does not have the 4gb mac partioning in its drive formatting.
I need the 36 GB media  file from it. (urgently)
My Win7  system identifies that there is a connected disk drive but there is no way to open it.  ie. I can only see it as a device to be ejected BUT there is no drive in "My Computer " or "Explorer"  or Devices to open.
Evidently ...the MAC Dive software will solve this issue but I dont want to load a "dodgy" application if I can help it.

This is a bit of an old thread but it might help me get an answer I've been pondering about for a little while recently since buying a WD 2TB My Book Studio.
I've been using Macdrive for years now and absolutely love it! However, being a long-time desktop PC user I have never used any of my external hard drives in the past as a scratch disk. Recently, I upgraded to the more portable land of laptops and it's working great but to make sure I optimised my setup as much as I could, I bought the above mentioned drive because it's RAID0 enabled and e-sata connected giving me a decent, stable data-rate (I assume). The WD drives often come pre-formatted as HFS+ to make it easier for Mac users to just plug-in and go and I thought considering I am often working with colleagues using Macs and FCP too, it would be a good idea to keep this drive formatted this way to retain better compatibility with my peers.
The question that popped up in my mind however is whether this is adversely hindering performance whilst editing? Would read/write speeds be more efficient if the drive were configured natively as NTFS or does this not make much difference when using Macdrive?? Anybody have any thoughts???

Can anyone tell me how to get my computer to recognize my installed and registered version of mac office instead of the test drive software that came installed on the computer.
I am assuming there is someplace to set this option - as of right now, any document I open has the test drive text and the reminders each time of expiration of the trial software. I am beginning to go insane.....

    eMac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

My standard list of things to do first for these weird sort of problems. Keep in mind this list represents the programs I tend to use. I run Panther (OS 10.3.9). There are several alternate programs that do the same things with some combining the functions of some of the ones below. So everyone has their favorites, but here are mine...
Run MacJanitor (free download) to do all the Unix Cron Maintenance scripts.
Run Disk Utility (Applications -> Utilities) and repair disk permissions on your start up drive (typically your internal drive). Also verify any other drives mounted on the system, especially any external drives that you use for iMovie and iDVD projects.
Run Preferential Treatment (free download) to check for corrupt/damaged application and system preference files.
Run Cache Out X (free download) to clear all system and application caches.
Reboot your Mac (after running Cache Out X you are given the option to restart the machine).

  • How to Extend C: Drive On PC or/and use Mac drive from the PC

I Install Boot camp on Mac book pro
the Limit for Drive C: is only 32 GB,can i extend it ?
From the mac i can see and use the PC C: Drive but i cant See and use the Mac drive from the PC,
Do you know any way to see and use it ?
    Thanks,
    Yariv

You weren't limited to 32GB unless you chose to do so.
    HFSExplorer can read HFS+
    MacDrive7 can read and write
Personally would not use FAT and just stick with NTFS.
Paragon Software has 3 products. To write to NTFS from OS X. To resize partition. Backup software for Windows.

If all you're trying to do is move the files from the Windows external to the Mac external, you can simply connect them both to the Mac and drag the files from the Windows drive to the Mac drive. If you want to move the files back and forth between them, you'll need to establish the format of the Windows external. Macs can read and write to FAT32 and exFAT (which can handle files larger than 4GB) formatted drives but can only read NTFS formatted drives without additional software. With the Windows drive connected, you can check its format with Disk Utility.

  • Do Mac drives need to be defragmented periodically like PC's do?

    Hi folks,
Do Mac drives need to be defragmented periodically like PC's do? If yes, how do you do that on a Mac?

Sorry to hear about your situation Anonymoose2 - tough spot to be in.
    DEFRAGMENTING
I have a lot of experience with defragging in Windows and Mac. It really helps with Windows but on a Mac it is not worth the dollars & time & effort. iDefrag is a quality product, but it costs money (no free trial worth the effort) and it is labor intensive. And it fails to get at everything (even when using it from boot-disk). Besides - it appears that Apple products defragment themselves provided you leave them "on" overnight (perhaps all week?) I have read about this AND have experienced the "performance jump" from doing that. The direct method of tidying data on a Mac is to boot to your install DVD, attach an external drive, access Disk Utilities, then copy your entire OS X contents to the external storage. It takes about 30 minutes to one hour (do it while you make dinner so as not to get bored). Then reverse this - copy the external drive BACK on to your Mac. Perfect defragmentation (if that is important to you - it is very important when experiencing trouble while installing Boot Camp for instance). A perfectly defragmented drive is always a little faster, but that's all you get out of it.
    FREE EXTERNAL STORAGE
Put a note up in your area and ask if anyone can donate their old jump drives / memory sticks to you. The new ones are up to 32GB and people tend to ignore their old 2GB or 4GB sticks. Most offices pass them out to staff like candy.
    RECOVERING LOST DATA
There is really great software out there for recovering lost data on a Mac. Often even with a free try before you buy - but - those products recommend you do NOT install on the same drive as the lost files. The more you use the drive the more the lost files can be over-written before you recover them. The drive needs to be examined from another machine, unfortunately (and better done by a certified service person).
    CLEANING YOUR FILES
There is freeware and shareware which allows you to "see" useless files and duplicated data. You can then safely delete the extra. Photos and music are typical items which take up LOADS of you precious space. (Actually - start right now by deleting your Safari cache and cookies. I had friends who had years of browsing history on their machine and it added up to a LOT of space saved when they dumped it!).
Araxis has some of that clean-your-files software that lets you try before you buy (I liked it) - OmniDiskSweeper is another recommend (I have not tried it yet).
For what it's worth. (Hope things pick up for ya! - Cheers)

  • Unable to install driver software

Hey everybody I have the n97 mini, and i have a Windows 7 professional 32bit.. had the same version of windows and had no trouble with it.. now when i re-installed everything, Ovi and the n97 mini driver software, it worked for the first time.
As for the second time, Reading the device is a success but it says "Unable to install driver software" Is there is a solution to this problem? or do i have to reinstall the windows all over again?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Select "/var/log/install.log" from the file list. Post the messages from the last installation attempt, starting from the time when you launched the Installer or Software Update.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.

  • Mac Drive: What internal or external drives can I 'see' from OSX or Bootcamp?

    Hi All,
I am having a bit of a hard time trying to finalize my port over to macintosh and I am hoping someone can help me understand what I should be able to "see" from where I can see this on my network. I would like to move some data temporarily OFF an external hard drive and ONTO the Internal Drive #1 temporarily so I can use this External Drive for another purpose. But again I can't figure out if I should see this External Drive (C below) and be able to move it to this internal BootCamp drive (#1 below).
I have MacDrive installed on all Windows installs and have the following in my MacPro:
    1. 1TB HD with Windows 7 BootCamp
    2. 500 GB with Windows XP BootCamp
    3. 1 TB with Snow Leopard and Windows 7 via Paralells (I WORK HERE REGULARLY)
    outside the machine I have:
    A. 2 TB Time Capsule via Ethernet to the MacPro (that actually backs up the Laptop Machine wirelessly)
    B. 2 TB Western Digital (that backs up the MacPro drive 3 that I work off and store my data)
    C. Various External drives that I plug into the MacPro via USB
Is it possible to get a handle on whether I need to actually boot into the Window 7 BootCamp Internal HD in order to move this data to this drive and whether I should be able to see this Boot Camp Drive from within OSX? I mean, can I move the data from the Mac Formatted External Drives to the Boot Camp Drive without booting into Boot Camp? Can I see these Mac Formatted Externals from Boot Camp (assuming I have Mac Drive Installed?
Should I expect to see the Time Capsule from the Boot Camp drives?!
    Thanks for any help

OK, you are half way there...
The MacDrive software allows the Windows side to read and write to the MacOS partition.  You are correct, there is a Paragon software you could have purchased for about the same price.  Six of one, half a dozen of the other.  Both products work well.  For some things one may be slightly better than the other,  but either should work fine for what you want.  With this, you should be set when you boot into WIndows using BootCamp.
As I said, you are half way there.  Now you want your MacOS to be able to read and write to your WIndow 7 boot partition.  By default, MacOS can read from teh Windows drive, but can't write to it.  You have a couple of options to try here.  If you do a google search, there was a method to get unsupported read and write access using the native driver with your MacOS that worked for the older versions of OS-X.  I don't know if it still works for Lion or not,  but it might be worth a test.  There is NTFS-3G that you can get for free.  I seem to recall some people had priblems with it when Lion was first released, but I imagine those issues have probably been addressed by now.  There is the option of buying commercial software for this as well.  Here there is another Paragon package that you can but which works very well.  It give you the full read and write access to your Windows drive, and it hasn't had any problems on Lion for me.  Unless you use one of these methods (or something else I haven't mentioned) you will not be able to write to your Windows boot drive when you are running MacOS.  You will be able to read from the drve, just not write to it.

  • Driver software is not available from Apple

Was using an HP LaserJet 1020 without any problems until last week, when it just gave out and it shows the following error every time: "driver software is not available from Apple". Have tried to install the latest drivers but it won't allow it with the same error.
Also tried following these instructions http://blog.jayway.com/2010/04/08/hp-laserjet-1020-in-snow-leopard/ but it gets stuck on the third step. The driver list can't be opened and it reads "driver software is not available from Apple" again.
    Any suggestions?

From what I can tell from online research, HP never claimed the 1020 printer series was compatible with Macs or has ever developed any OS X drivers for them. For instance, from the "Specifications" tab of this product info page:
Because of that, I'm kind of amazed that you ever got your 1020 to work with any version of OS X, unless some sort of hack or third party driver was involved. If so, you might want to check with the originator of that workaround to see if there are any new developments that would get it working again.

  • Netgear WN111v2 Mac Installation Software???

I have a Netgear WN111v2 USB Wireless adapter that I want to use to connect to a Netgear Router.
I thought since I was replacing my old Netgear Wireless adapter (it got broke) that I wouldn't need the installation software (it only comes with Windows installation software).
My System Pref->Network doesn't recognize the adapter when plugged in.
So, is there a Mac version for this adapter or am I going to have to return it to the store?

A quick Internet search appears to indicate that a different chipset is used for the version in question. Unless you can locate an original or third-party Mac driver for this very device, you may have to look for another solution.

Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Medion P82012 Graphic tablet - Mac driver needed, where to get?

Just got a Medion (P46000 MD 85637) tablet from Aldi, but do not seem to be able to get it to work. Does anybody know if there is a Mac driver (that works) out there? And maybe one that would also allow using the various buttons on the tablet?

But either the 'real' manufacturer or the distributor (Medion) might be the only sources of updated/better drivers.
Stefan I agree, Medion has no drivers for Mac (or so they claim) and the 'real' manufacturer is who?
This Waltop Taiwan firm seems to be that.
Although it might be possible with Medion that they use another one right now.
The link you and I found dates some time back, so might be...
Maybe using the OSX System Profiler and the different hardware and software categories in it can shed some light to that.

  • Windows vista, Ipod shuffle 4th gen.  Computer cannot find device driver software for ipod.

After several hours trying the troubleshooting options provided by the apple support site, I have come to what I think is the issue here.  My girlfriend recently got an ipod shuffle and when plugging it into her computer the dialog pops up saying it is installing device driver software for the ipod.  Eventually it asks me to insert the CD that came with the ipod.  No CD came with the ipod, so I click the option that says "I do not have my cd".  Then it gives me the option of searching automatically or manually for the driver software.  The automatic way can't find it.  Doing it manually, with the help of the troubleshooting page, didn't work either.  google search can't seem to help me on this one.  Also, I tried plugging the ipod into my computer (not hers) and it worked fine, it was able to install the device driver software on its own.  Does anybody know the issue here?  My computer has windows 7, and hers has vista.  Hers is Serice Pack 1.  When I tried installing service pack 2 it wouldnt work.  I don't know if that is the issue though.  I have tried just about everything, I think the issue is finding the device driver software.  When I do a google search nothing comes up, so I have no idea what to do at this point.  Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Well its surprising to know that! But even  have an ipod shuffle 3rd gen n dint face any problem like that. FYI no cd comes with the ipod jus take ur ipod to an apple exoert n he will solve ur problem .
