MAC | Each time I open a new window with ctrl-n, the sidebar opens and then I have to manually close it. How can I do a ctrl-n and not have the sidebar open?

Do you have any Sidebar-related extensions installed?
Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode? <br />

    '''''"a new FF iteration"'''''
No such thing. All Firefox windows and tabs run in a single '''firefox.exe''' process, unlike IE which has a separate process for each window, or Chrome which opens a new process for each tab.
As far as the Firefox SafeMode, you can't open it when Firefox is running ''(unless you open a separate Profile purposely)'', if you try all you will get is another window in the "regular mode".
You're not going to be able to discover the cause of your problem if you're unwilling to follow established troubleshooting procedures, regardless of how intermittent the fault occurs. I wouldn't be surprised of you have an add-on installed which is causing that problem.
Another course of action would be to create a new Profile, which is like starting from scratch with a completely new Firefox installation. <br />

  • I desperately would like to update Firefox to version 10 from version 9 but each time I try, I am stuck with FF10 checking addons for comparability and the Welcome page opening every time I start the browser.

I desperately would like to update Firefox to version 10 from version 9 but each time I try, I am stuck with FF10 checking addons for compatability and the Welcome page opening every time I start the browser. I continue to have to revert to version 9 to resolve this issue.

Sorry to be a while getting back! Tried all of that with no sucess so this AM, bit the bullet and deleted the FF folder from programs and downloaded and installed FF 10.01. Still was plagued with the same problem. Went into the appdata folder and there were two sessionstore.js files. Deleted them both, restarted the browser and no compatibility check for add-ons was done at start up and the extra tab for Welcome to FF was no longer opening Everything seems to be working as it should and I did not loose any of my settings.. Thank you for trying to help and I hope my solution helps anyone else who might experience this in the future. Here's hoping the next update goes smoother!

  • Finder opens a new window with tabs in the last closed window loaded automatically

As the title says, I've found this happens more than a few times for some change. Maybe every time, I didn't count. Say, I closed a window with 3 tabs opened, then next time when I click finder to open a new window, I will find the 3 tabs loaded in the new window automatically. I am wondering if it is a new feature or bug. If it is not right, would anyone give me some suggestion to correct, if possible? Thanks.

Yup. I think bring convenience or not is supposed to be the fundamental difference bugs and features.
Convenience also comes with users' habit. I am sure I will get used to the new way as time goes by.

  • HT1807 got an unlocked iphone 4s bt it asks for activation required via a wifi or mobile network each time i put a new sim. wat if i put in a sim which doesnt have 3g and i dnt have any wifi around me? how do i activate it then?

I am living in uk at the moment and i have an unlocked iphone 4s. Each time i put a new sim in it a message appears saying ''Activation Required''. When i slide the unlock bar it asks to choose a wifi network or a mobile data network. So far this hasnt been a problem coz i always found a wifi network around me or the mobile data network worked fine. Now the problem is I am moving back to my country Bangladesh in couple of days. And back there wifi isnt a very available thingie. And mobile data network is very hard to connect. So if i put on a Bangladeshi mobile service sim in my phone how do i activate it without the wifi or mobile data network? Please some help asap would be much appreciated.

    Hi Allan,
Sorry for the rant up there..   Thanks for your quick response.  I couldn't get to an Apple store and can't order anything from the States that contains Lithium ION batteries -- no U.S. Postal Services will deliver these to us anymore.  Target sold this to me as an unactivated Sprint phone.  I never activated it through Sprint in the States and just took it to Germany with me.  I updated to vs.6.0 via ITunes and without the Sprint SIM Card installed.  The IPhone is now accessible (Apps, Settings, etc., to be able to check firmware, et al., settings.  However, I can't tell if it's unlocked (since I upgraded the version without the Sprint SIM Card installed) until I go to the local cell phone shop and stuff in a BASE (provider) SIM card and test it out.  Is there a way to tell whether or not the phone is unlocked without a SIM card in it?  I don't think there is....

  • Message to update DE on Mac each time I open it

If I shut down DIgitial Editions and then re-open it. I alway get the black box with the message "There is a new version of Adobe Digital Editions available. To continue using Adobe Digital Editions you must download the update." I then follow the instructions by clicking "launch" and then "yes" on the installer. Now I can open files I'm playing with in DE. I must have done this about 15 times already. Why doen't the update stick after closing DE or am I not getting the update at all?
I'm using an IMac with Mac OS 10.4.11. I'm playing with free downloaded files and I've tried adapting an OeB to ePub and made a simple epub test file so learn how it's done. I also have an old PC with windows XP on which Digital Editions seems to work fine.

    Don,
One of two things probably happened.
1.) When this happens to me it is usually because I moved my copy of ADE from it's normal place (~/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/www.macromedia.com/bin/digitaleditions1x5 ) to someplace else - ADE will always reinstall itself there.
2.) You are using the alias we put into the applications folder (because the actual path is so horrendous) and when the upgrade happens the alias didn't get updated. In this case delete the alias - or retarget it to the above path.
    Hope this helps

  • Each time you install a new game, you need to run Creative ALchemy and "Transmute" your application.

What does this mean and how do you do it. I just put Guild Wars on my machine but no EAX so I assume this is why.
    Help is needed, thanks.

First thanks for the reply and so what you are saying is that I need to put the game in the Alchemy.ini file. I thought it would see the game automatically or am I wrong on that.
The only games that Alchemy will see automatically are the ones that are already in the Alchemy.ini, most (or all) of which should be listed here,
    http://connect.creativelabs.com/alch.../AllItems.aspx
If you click on the "ALchemy Quick Start" link in the left menu you will get the help menu that tells you how to add games to Alchemy. Personally I prefer to use the GamePath method over RegPath, just easier than mucking about and trying to find the correct regpath. For example I have Far Cry 64 installed (and to tell the truth I dont even know if there is a regpath to use, never looked) and all I did was open Alchemy.ini (in Notepad) and added the following,
    [Far Cry]
    GamePath=D:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Crytek\Far Cry\Bin64
(D in my case, but would be the drive letter for wherever ou have the game installed), then ran Alchemy and it was in the added games list and clicked Transmute. BTW Far Cry 64 works and sounds great using Alchemy.

  • How to "open all in tabs" bookmarks including links in second level folders (maybe each in new window with tabs) It opens only first level links... thanks

I mean, if I go to the main menu, bookmarks->some folder (this "some folder" includes a 5 bookmarks and "some folder 1", "some folder 2" each with own bookmarks), click "open all in tabs", then it opens only 5 bookmarks, but I want it to open bookmarks from "some folder 1", "some folder 2" too at the same time! (maybe in new windows with tabs for each "some folder 1", "some folder 2") doesn't matter.
Is there a way to do this? Maybe addons? extensions? Maybe you could add this in future versions...
THanks. It would be great for me and my friends. (they also asked about this)

    Any suggestions?

Probably far too old to register. Sounds like a bug, stopping the "never" selection from working. You may be stuck with it.

  • New Window from "FILE- NEW-WINDOW" duplicates all the currently open tabs in the new window. I want new window with just the "Home" tab please?

    Running Firefox 3.6.13 on 64Bit Win7.
I like to group tabs on a topic in a window, and when the tabs get to be too many, or a new topic, I do FILE->NEW-WINDOW and expect a new window with just one default (Home) tab. Instead I get a new window with ALL the tabs of the first window.
I have checked all the Options I could find. Nothing helped. I CAN make a new Window with just one tab if I right-click a link and say "Open in NEW Window".

A new window should only open with the home page(s).<br />
If you see differently then you need to check your extensions.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

    Hi
Please take a look to this thread Re: Can I refresh the browser rather than open a new tab?

  • Is there a way to open a new window with one site when the home setting on Firefox has multiple websites?

While working in Firefox is there a way to open a new window with one site when the home setting on Firefox has multiple websites?

I guess I'm not explaining myself fully. I have a home page designation in firefox preferences that starts firefox up with 5 sites. that pretty fills up my screen with tabs.
At some point I want to initiate another WINDOW in firefox (NOT a tab). I would like to be able to open up a window that ONLY has ONE tab, or as if there were only one site designated as the home page. This gives me a workspace that has my most useful sites available in tabs in one window, and also another WINDOW that I can move around in and even create more tabs without messing up my primary set of TABS (in my primary window). I see how this might not be doable without doing what I do now, which is open up a new window, and then close tabs until the new window just has one tab for me to work from.

  • How can I open a new window with the same website like the one I have open?

In safari I can open a new window with the same website like the one I have open, that makes it easy continuing to navigate on a website and to go back to the original website

    Hello Andieas
Why open a new window for fast browsing??
    Open new tabs.
Just right click on what you want to open and click "Open in new Tab"
It is easy and doesn't consume memory from your computer as well as easy to navigate.
    Hope you'll like it

  • How do I open a new window (cmd + N) on the current page (url) NOT my homepage?

Before I updated to firefox 28, I was able to hit cmd + N and it would open a new window with the exact same webpage I was on. Now it opens a new window with my homepage. I'm assuming I had an add-on or extension, but I am desperate to be able to do this again. Ideas?

This is an oversight by the developers of the latest FireFox revision: a great shame, as the overall feel of the browser has patently been improved.
Xabolcs has come up with a nice fudging idea; if it were to work; but sadly it doesn't for me....
As mentioned by MGprof, the latest version of FireFox (May'14) now opens one's "homepage" instead of a new blank window.
As my "homepage" is almost a dozen tabs; this is worse than useless. It's like starting FireFox again; and then having to close a whole string of unwanted tabs!
To compound my frustration, the "move to a new window" option disappeared on another recent FireFox "upgrade"; but I managed to get round that by copying an url from a tab, then opening a new blank window, to paste the url into.
So, is there any possible way to open a new window in this latest version of FireFox?
I just want to be able to open a new FireFox window; and I'd be happy with it being either blank, or duplicating the url of a currently-showing tab.
This would allow view of one trimmed-size webpage in front of another one, showing in a selected tab in my normal-use multi-tab window: useful when comparing complex images, for example.
I have just installed the above-recommended "duplicate-2-window"; but can't make it work for me.
I've assumed "no-restart-necessary" claim is correct; but using cntrl+N, I now get a new blank TAB!
I'll try rebooting next, and post here again if that improves the situation; but don't hold your breath!
Meanwhile, if the developers are watching out for feedback..................................... please sort this, by putting back the "open a new window" option: I do NOT want to have to use Gugl-Krohm!

  • When a script opens a new window, I would like the ability to not let the script use the full screen. I have seen that feature before, but for some reason I cant find it anymore. Has that been taken out ?

http://epaper.dawn.com. If you click on any of the articles, it opens that in a new window with full screen. I know I have configured FireFox earlier to not let script use full screen. I seem to not find it OR it has been removed.
