Mac email doesn't work with iCloud

Since the move from mobileme email to iCloud I can only get email accounts working for a short period, and sometimes not at all on agiven day.
What we had on mobileme was a family acount with 4 active email accounts.
These all worked fine and all came in as seperate mailboxes to the mail client on the Mac. Nice and exactly what we wanted.
Since iCliud these accounts all work fine on IOS devices where the account matches the appleID logged in on the account.
Email on the Mac is different. I am often asked for the password for the individual accounts registered within email. Sometimes these passwords are accepted and I can send and receive email, sometimes they are not. Neither of these things sound right to me a) why only ask sometimes? b) if it works once why doesn't it always work.
I have tried (over 20 times now - waiting for varying lengths of time up to several days) the following to find a solution:
1. Finding a post on these support forums or elswhere that says it has the definitive way of getting the whole account thing sorted out. It does seem many people have had issues moving email to iCloud.
2. Creating new accounts for the email addresses required following the instructions exactly and having someone else check that I am.
3. Trying the account immediately (actually email just does this). Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't
4. Waiting  and trying it later. Sometimes the account will work for a couple of days but eventually everything reverts to the asking for and rejecting/accepting the password.
5. Going back to step 1
Other iCloud services work fine e.g. Calendar synch.
Any help gratefully received. This has been going on for months.

I'm sure you migrated the primary MobileMe account to iCloud, but did you migrate each of the other email accounts as well.  Just migrating the primary account does not migrate the others.

  • Does my mac 10.6.8 work with icloud

Can I sync my mac version 10.6.8 with icloud?

No, it doesn't. 10.7.2 or later is required to have iCloud. Consider upgrading your computer if possible.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • Delete email in mavericks mac mail doesn't work with google app

    Hello,
I've got a macbook pro retina. I've received it with mavericks pre-installed, I've done the update to 10.9.1.
I got a google app account it was use previously with mac mail on mac os X 10.8.
I've resetup it with the all mail settings imap shown. The "Auto-Expunge on" is set to  "- Immediately update the server. (default)"
    The problems are:
    - each time I delete a message in inbox it re-appear if I click on another folder (like sent) and go back to inbox.
    - if I move a message from inbox to a local folder it doesn't move it, It copy it. Before mavericks that feature was working.
Could you tell me what are the right settings in google app mail to set to work well with mavericks?
Thanks a lot, this new mac mail app is hard to work with...

  • HT201342 my .mac email is not syncing with iCloud and I cannot access on iPad

I am trying to access my .mac email on my iPad. When I go to set up the account, it says it's already connected through iCloud, but the inbox is empty and I cannot figure out how to sync correctly. Same issue with my iPhone - no longer able to view or send .mac messages from that device. I have an older eMac (roughly 5 years old) and do not have the upgraded OS, but cannot imagine that an OS upgrade would be required to continue to access the paid email service.
    Frustrating!

For icloud email on your device, you must have icloud turned on, but also have the Mail app set up to connect to icloud.  In Settings>Mail, Contacts,...  look in the Mail section under Accounts.  You must set up your icloud email account there in order to use the Mail app to read and send emails.

  • Does .mac email address only work with MobileMe

My subscription to MobileMe has expired and I can no longer receive email at my .mac email address.
Does anyone know if you can still have a .mac email address without having to use mobileme.

You .mac email address is supplied by Apple via MobileMe. If you have chosen to not continue with MobileMe, you no longer have a .Mac email address.
If you wish to keep using Apple's email service, you must renew MobileMe.
If you don't, then you'll need to get another email address from some other provider like gmail, yahoo, your ISP, etc.

  • Icloud freezing on MAC Yosemite - doesn't work with my wifi network

    Hey everybody,
Since upgrading to Yosemite, I'm having troubles logging into my icloud account on my macbook air - mid 2011, when i log in from preference->icloud and i enter my infos. After a while a message box appears saying that it "can't sign in at this time".
But I noticed one weird thing: I tried to sign in from another wifi network (in a café), and it worked perfectly and everything came back to normal. But when i returned home and connected my MB to my wifi network, icloud freezed another time. Then I returned to the café, and it started to work again normally. But when i came back to test it another time at home, the problem of icloud freezing came back. So I shared some 3G from my iphone and connected my MB to it. And icloud started working fine another time. But when i conneted it to my wifi network, the problem came back.
So I recognized that maybe i'm having some network problems, so i reseted my router (dlink DSL-2640t )and I tried again, but the problem persisted.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

    skrble,
Welcome to the forum.  Sorry to hear about your troubles.
I re-read your message a couple times and it sounds like you are bringing systems home and that the point is that they will not connect to your home router.  You have listed a good number of different ThinkPad models and noted they will not connect to your router while other manufacturers will.
Let me ask, if you take any of these ThinkPads to other locations, are you able to connect view wifi?  If so, then the ThinkPad and wifi are working and we appear to have some setting / incompatibility.  We have had some odd cases where routers needed a firmware update, but I don't want to jump to conclusions.
Can you please let us know if your laptops will work somewhere else first.  If none of the ThinkPads work anywhere, then we have perhaps a different problem.   Lastly, when you are at home, have you tried a wired ethernet connection from the ThinkPad to your router.  If so, are you then able to get network access?   Perhaps we can isolate this a bit.
    Thanks
    Mark

  • Mac mail no longer works with iCloud

Since installing icloud, my mac mail is no longer working.

You have been using MobileMe's email settings, which sometimes continue to work for a time after migration but then get turned off. iCloud's mail server settings are different. Strictly speaking Lion 10.7.2 is required for iCloud, and on that Mail is set up automatically.
Leopard cannot access most of iCloud's facilities, however you can set Mail up manually to access your email. The method is described here:

  • HT204053 my apple ID doesn't work with ICloud. I can't register for Icloud

My apple ID and password work for everything else but when I use it to start up Icloud it  says This Apple ID's email address cannot be verified. Change your apple ID's email address at appleid.apple.com to sign into iCloud. I've tried resetting my password but hate to change my Apple ID.

I tried everything you said but after I downloaded ICloud on my computer and tried to log in with the Apple ID that is my email which works on everything else, it says "the Apple ID email address cannot be verified. change your apple ID email address at appleid.apple.com to sign into Icloud"        But I don't want to change my apple ID to a different email because that is my email.

  • FIOS Email: Doesn't work with Windows Live Mail?

I have follow the instructions posted in mid April 2015 for changing the email settings and they do not work at all with Windows Live Mail.
Unable to send or receive messages for the Verizon (text deleted by me) account. An incorrect password was entered. The next time you send or receive messages, you'll be asked to enter your user name and password for this account.

Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC92
    Protocol: POP3

    Secure(SSL): Yes
I am using the exact same identical password I used successfully to access webmail.  I confirmed the port settings of 995 (incoming) and 465 (outgoing) are being used in the set up. I noticed various versions of Outlook (Express, 2010, etc) have instructions posted here but not Windows Live Mail. Do the new settings not work on the client?

Update: I did find the instructions posted at http://www.verizon.com/Support/Residential/Announcements/general-announcements01.htm?CMP=EMC-CVZ_ZZ_... and they DO NOT WORK
Followed them to the letter step by step and still cannot access when using Webmail.  Here is the response:

  • Alias created on MobileMe doesn't work with iCloud

I had a mobileme account with which I have created an alias.
To try to use iCloud I created another account with an apple id. In this account I created a new mail  with "@me.com", that is the same alias of mobileme account.
When I transfert my mobleme account to icloud my alias works fine, but I do not succeed to verify any Apple service with my alias.
    I try Facetime, iMessage, etc...

    Dear Sjazbec,
All settings are correct and it worked before. That's why there are some documents om the cloud.
A couple of days ago, numbers and pages started to switch off their own iCloud-button! Since then, it is not possible to create new documents or spreadsheets because they won't be sent to the cloud.
I can't reach the documents in the cloud with my iDevices, but only with my iMac.
This way, the cloud is useless to me and even causing troubles, because the documents on the cloud are important to my work.
    Can someone please help?
    Kind Renards

  • Search in body of mails doesn't work with iCloud

Apple says "If you’re looking for a specific email, you can now search in the body of messages." on its iOS 5 page. This is true for my Gmail and Fastmail account (both IMAP) but NOT for iCloud/MobileMe.
    Can anybody confirm this?

I would also like to know what's going on with this. Very irritating that search (in email) is so hit n miss when Apple get is so right on the desktop software.

  • Thunderbird doesn't authenticate with iCloud!

Is there any info yet on why iCloud email doesn't work with thunderbird? I copy the same exact server information from Outlook 2010 (where it works normally) and thunderbird fails authenticating.
So frustrating. I do not want to be using Outlook 2010 for email now .

    SOLUTION!!!!
It works with some minor tweaking in about:config. However, I now have to resync all of my mailboxes (not sure how that one worked out =P).
In thunderbird, go to Tools, Options, Advanced, General, Config Editor
    Search for the string 'mail.server.server'
You should see a bunch of listings as mail.server.server#, where # = 1,2,3, etc
Look for the entry that says 'mail.server.server#.name' and find the name of the account that you have as your iCloud account in Thunderbird. Record the value of # in your brain.
Now go to mail.server.server#.authMethod and set it to 2
At this point, it should connect, but it may lose all of your folders. Just right click your account in the navigation pane, and click Subscribe and update accordingly.
If you just want to see your folders without redownloading everything again, go to Tools, Account Settings, Server Settings (for the iCloud email), Advanced, and uncheck 'Show only subscribed folders'
Everything should now work. This forces thunderbird to use the old-style IMAP login (I believe what Outlook uses and why Outlook 2010 works).
UPDATE: I seem to have had a problem with imap.mail.me.com today, so I switched to p99-imap.mail.me.com and it worked fine.

  • HT201250 Does time machine work with iCloud?

I'm new to Apple - not sure if Time Machine can work with iCloud instead of an external HDD. It would seem that iCloud would be the best place to backup to since it is available - just get on the internet and its there.

TIme Machine doesn't work with iCloud.
OS X Mountain Lion: Disks you can use with Time Machine
The backup volume has to be large enough to hold at least one copy of all the data you want to back up. The more space it has, the longer your backup history will be. It does not have to be any particluar multiple of the size of the volume(s) you back up.
