[Mac] Error Code 6 Question

10 days ago my hard drive on my Mac Pro crashed and was duly replaced and am in the process of uploading all my backup; when it came to loading CS5 an error message code 6 came up-what does it mean.
[Title Edited for clarity - Hunt]

You are only allowed 2 active installations.  Since the one on the crashed drive is still considered active if this is a problem you will have to contact customer service for a reset.
A standard backup will not work to install PS.  You need to do this from disks or download.
Hope this helps.

  • I got the Mac error code -36 while trying to move a backup file

I got the Mac error code -36 while trying to move a backup file (made by Time Machine) to another drive.  The full text of the error message is:
The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “boot.efi” can’t be read or written. (Error code -36)

It's a disk error. Although Apple documentation says you should be able to copy Time Machine backups in the FInder, that doesn't necessarily mean it will work. I suggest that, instead of copying the existing backup, you start a new one on the other drive, and keep the old one. You need more than one backup anyway.

  • Error code question

I have a g4 which has stopped running and I need a little help. On start up it stops at the grey apple screen and doesn't boot up. I can boot up in target mode and are able to see the drive just fine. I ran an apple Hardware test and got a error code: fire / 4 / 2 Does anyone know how to fix this problem or is the computer dead?

Not sure what that error refers to. May be related to firewire. Do you have any external firewire devices connected? Are you using a firewire PCI card?
When troubleshooting, disconnect all external devices except your kbd, display & mouse. Now will it boot?
Will your Mac boot using the Tiger install DVD (or another system CD/DVD)?
If not, suggest you try a PRAM/NVRAM reset http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379 . Now will it boot?
If not Will it boot in Safe Mode? See

I was in the process of secure empyting my trash when I inadvertenly hit the stop button.

I have a error code -22 message when emptying my trash. Can anyone help me solve this? Thanks!

10.5.8 is as high as you can go for a download at this point. If you want a more recent OS you will need to purchase a disk with Snow Leopard (10.6) on it. Once that is installed you can go to Lion (10.7) or Mountain Lion (10.8) if your MacBook supports it, by a (paid) download.
    Best of luck.

    - Next remove one stick and run the test again. If still problem insert the removed stick and remove the other one

  • Outlook for Mac error code - 3259

I have had this error message for two days
An operation on the server timed out. The server may be down, overloaded, or there may be too much net traffic. Mail could not be sent.

My email provider is experiencing no problems and my emails are being received and are able to be sent via their website but not through outlook
    Help.
    PKF

    Hi,
This problem may occurs because an incorrect port number is set for the outgoing connection. Try to change the SMPT port to 587:
    Start Outlook.
    Click Tools then select Accounts.
In the Outgoing Server box change the port to 587.
Close the windows and try send/receive again.
Also, like Karl Timmermans suggested, for Office for Mac issues, better to post your questions to the forum of Office for Mac:

  • Mac error code -1407

I'm encountering this error while deleting any single file on my external harddrive, which is Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
I've searched through the net for this error but to no avail.
    I need advices and guidance!
    pleaseeeee!!

This post goes back 3 years.   Mavericks (which you are running) was not around then.   And there is nothing sacrosanct about an error number.   Apple have not bothered to publish a list recently because they are changing all the time.
Why not write a new question of your own and bring things up to date..

  • Outlook for MAC error code: -19982

We have 4 Macbook Pro's in the office and neither of them can receive or send mails via Outlook for MAC 2011. Have tried rebuilding the database on all of them but that hasn't helped, it just keeps asking for the password to be re-entered. Anyone with a solution please?

This is a question better suited for the Office for Mac forums.

  • Photoshop Elements 11 for Mac Error Code 213:5

I recently changed hard-drives; I suspect the problem stems from that.  I use Mac OS 10.10.  Elements Organizer opens fine.  Elements Editor throws the code.  Restarting computer does not fix.  I do not have either SLStore, or Adobe PCD folders (under Library/Application Support/Adobe)

If you migrated your stuff from your old hard drive, that's your problem. You can never, never migrate an installed version of PSE. You will need to download and run this:
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
and then go around and manually remove any bits you can find (I don't know about yosemite, but in previous versions of OS X Spotlight is programmed specifically to exclude the files you want to find here). Look not only in applications, but also in hard drive>library>application support>adobe, and your username>library>preferences.

  • Cant back up Mac - error code 6584

Hi Ive recently configured and set up my TC. Macbook configured wirelessly no probs.
However when I try to open Time machine after a few moments the above error message
appears and I have to end it. INstalled latest TC firmware.
    Any help much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Rob

    Hi LP,
Turn off wireless so there is only ethernet connection. - OK will try that in a mo..
Does the TC hard disk appear in Finder?  YES
If so mount it and then see if TM can find it. Even if it has issues once finder can access the drive it is usually ok.  Sorry, what do you mean Mount it ?
Is that how it should appear in Finder ?

  • Where is a comprehensive list of error codes?

I keep looking for a comprehensive list of all error codes sorted by number.  If, for example, something reports an error like "An error of type -1409 has occurred.", it seems there must be a list somewhere of descriptions of errors of type -1409.  Is there?  Does such a list exist?
If not, can you help me understand why not?
    --Gil

Thanks for the suggestions.  I sent Kevin a message...
    Hi, Kevin--
Thank you for compiling a very large list of Mac error codes.  I just got one that's not on your list, -1409.  I'm not sure what caused it.  I got it when I tried to run an AppleScript...
set aFileRef to open for access file "MBProHD:Users:gil:aPackage"
where aPackage was a package, instead of a file.  Not sure what it means.
    --Gil
I  tried Googling "An error of type -1409 has occurred."  It got a large number of hits; however most were of the form "Try this and see whether it goes away."  In other words, no definition.  Then I found one thread where a Senior Member posted a definition without attribution...
    Error: -1409
Macintosh system error (-1409) * Named fork does not exist */ error
The info we have on this error means that some part of the OS is damaged or missing, (assuming that the HD directories & such aren't messed up). Try reinstalling the last big combo update from Apple. It's possible that you will have to do an "Archive & Install" to repair your system files.
Now we're getting somewhere, but where did he get that definition?  The source seems to be a 2010 message on the Adobe Reader Bulletin Board.  The contributor's email is marked "private" and it's not obvious how to reach him or her.
Thanks, WZZZ, for your helpful suggestion.
Back to my original question -- Where's the list? -- I guess we're all disappointed to learn that none of us knows where some Apple employee keeps it.
    --Gil
P.S.-- I just got word back from Mail about my message to Kevin...
Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:
        [email protected]
Ah, well.  Guess I'm ready to give up now.

  • Error code 36 - while trying to back up to an external hardddisk. I have tried everything

    Hi,
When I try to get af back up of my files on my Macbook Pro I get error code 36!
I am nearly desperat! I feel like I have tried almost everything to get a back up of my computer and nothing helps.
My Mac Book Pro began to be very slow for a few weeks ago and I can hardly use it any more, so I decided i would take a back up before i will try to get it repaired or formatted. But then the errorcode 36 failure pops up!
I have tried to download and run the proversion of this yesterday:
    http://www.detoxmymac.com/detox-my-mac-basic
I have tried to format the external harddisk to FAT and alle the other options under disk utility for that matter - just in case
    http://naumanlodhi.blogspot.dk/.../fix-mac-error-code-36...
I have tried all the options in the link below exept from MacKeeper (used detoxmymac instead)
    http://naumanlodhi.blogspot.dk/2012/07/fix-mac-error-code-36.html?m=1
Nothing works! And I have looked all over Google for a solution and it seems like that there isnt any!
If there are anyone who has found a solution that works I will be truly gratefull
Hope that there are some clever Mac Experts here, that has a solution
    Thanks in advance :-)

Okay so there is NOT point in buying a New external harddisk to try and back up from time machine...
I have taken a back up of all that didnt made errorcode 36 about a weekend ago, but I dont have a back up og all from before this problem started...
I learned the hard way always to take back up from now on...
I still hope that there is someone who know show to fix the errorcode 36
    - at least there are many solutions online - just havnet worked for me :-(
    Thanks for your help though

  • Where are my error codes?

A reasonably current and comprehensive list of Mac error codes can be found on some folks' machines, but not mine.  Why not?
Error codes can be found in the header files used to compile code.  On Mark's machine...

I  have XCode V 3.2.5 installed on my machine.
    Any ideas?

    I think I found it...
I used the Find Any File app to search for 'MacErrors.h'.  It found 21 matches.  4 were aliases.  The remaining 17 were for various SDKs.  One that looks like it might pertain to my current system is located at:
    /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.6.sdk/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/ Versions/A/Frameworks/CarbonCore.framework/Versions/A/Headers/'MacErrors.h
This file contains 3204 lines, starting with...
