MAC Filter don't work on extended Network

Hi guys,
Here's my setup : I've got an Airport Extreme 802.11n that has always been working great /___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png
I just bought an Airport Express for two reasons :
1) I wanted to plug another computer with a network wire (no wireless capacity)
2) I wanted to boost my wireless signal
So in the Airport configuration : Airport > Wireless > Mode
I choose "Extent a wireless network"
(my system is in french so many translation is not perfect)
Now it works great for both 1) and 2) : I can plug a computer with no wireless capacity on it with a network cable and it works fine.
Plus : we can access it wirelessly
HOWEVER my big problem is that : the MAC filter doesn't work anymore /___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png/___sbsstatic___/m igration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/mig ration-img-not-avail.png/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avai l.png
So anyone who would happen to know my WPA2 key could access it and that *****.
Can anyone please tell me how I can fix this because now I see that anyone can connect to the Airport Express wirelessly even though they just can't connect to the Airport Extreme.
BTW : Please no discussion over the fact that MAC adresses can be cloned, etc.... I know it I just want this to work

And I've done it BY THE BOOK !
not so complicated actually : Airport extreme = Primary WDS mode + set Distant WDS MAC address in it, then Aiport Express = Distant WDS mode + set Primary WDS mode MAC Address
and I've played around with some options the **** thing just won't work... I keep getting that stupid flashing orange thing forever and the diagnostic is : Problem with WDC settings

All good. Just drag and dropped each application and they worked until I did a restart. Then repaired permissions and everything works.

High pass filter don't work

i used the following setting for the testing;
input signal 1: 2khz sinewave, amplitude 1V
input signal 2: 50Hz sinewave, amplitude 10V
the above 2 signals are added together and fed into a filter. my objective is to remove signal 1(1V sinewave). i've tried some filter but it don't seem to work. for the attached vi, i used high pass filter. the filter don't work.
i tried to view the frequency component of the signal before and after the filter and found out that both signals pass through the filter.
1. why isn't the 50Hz signal being filtered off?
i had the following values:
before filter after filter
50Hz ==> 3Hz
2kHz ==> 120Hz
the filter seem to scaled down the frequency compon
ent instead of filtering off the 50Hz.
2. why is this so, how can i solve this problem?
3. what should i take note when setting the parameters of the filter?

You might try increasing the number of FIR filter taps. Also, would an IIR filter work for you? I recoded your example using the waveform filtering VIs that were developed for LabVIEW 6i. Please look at the number of taps for the FIR filter, and the PassBand and StopBand frequencies. Also, notice the IIR filter's superior suppression of the low frequency sinusoid.

TouchScreen Monitor + mac mini = don't work

There is a big monitor with TouchScreen. It works fine connected via USB with any computer with Windows XP or Windows 7. But it doesn't work with mac mini. What I have to do to force it to work normally?

When you say it does not work, what do you mean? Do you mean no video appears? If so you need to connec tthe monitor to the Mac via VGA, or DVI, or HDMI, or Displayport, etc.
If however you are referring to the fact it does display an image but the Touch screen capability does not work, then this is almost certainly because your Mac does not (at this point) have the right software drivers installed to enable this capability. The reason the Windows computers work is either because they already have the drivers installed or because Windows has automatically downloaded and installed the drivers.
You also don't detail what make and model of monitor you are referring to. It is possible some makes and models can be made to work with the right software (for Mac). However be aware that some makes/models only support limited touch capabilities, for example most HP Touchscreen displays only support two finger touches and not three or more.
In response previously to someone else who wanted to use a HP Touchscreen with a Mac I found this website http://touch-base.com/download.asp which has drivers for various makes and models of touchscreen display.

Why is Web Page Auth on MAC Filter Failure not working on Anchor Controller?

I have implemented a Guest WLAN solution as per the recommended design from Cisco. We have two internal WiSM2 controllers providing services for Internal secure SSIDs. Both these controllers are members of a Mobility and RF management group.
Two 5508 controllers have been installed in our DMZ for resilience and have been placed into a separate Mobility group. All controllers (internal and external) have been linked together as mobility neighbours in a full mesh and a new SSID for Web Guest traffic has been anchored to the controllers in the DMZ.
Web page authentication works perfectly fine, but I cannot for the life of me get the MAC filtering override to work, i.e. if a MAC address is present, do not redirect to the splash page for web auth.
I can get MAC auth working by iteself, but not with the Layer 3 option selected for web page auth on mac filter failure.
I know I can get around this by just creating two separate SSIDs. But the business is used to just having the one SSID for all guest traffic.
Is this a known limitation when anchoring SSIDs to controllers in the DMZ ?

I guess they changed their mind to add this fix in 7.0MR3. Now the fix will be in 7.2 release planned to be release in FEB.

My Mac Mini don't work with 3d Televisions.

Hello all,
I have a Mac Mini, and recently i buy a television by Sony 3d (46").
For my surprise, the television dont accept the signal from Mac Mini. O then screen appears the message (Signal Incompatible).
I change all configurations, but nothing. I call to Sony and they dont have idea about the problem.
Cam anyone help me?

Assuming your using a new Mac Mini with a HDMI to HDMI and one of the 4 HDMI ports on the Sony, the Mini will only recognise your screen when you either wake from sleep or on a restart. I've used this on a few Sony 3D TV's without any problems. Have you tried using one of the two HDMI's on the left hand side of the screen (HDMI 2 and 3 on the remote)
However, if you're using an old mac mini with the DVI connector, some of the convertor cables don't work, so it's worth checking that first.

Front Row Movie Trailers don't work on Airport Network

I can't view Front Row movie trailers when using an airport network. However, I can see the movies if I bypass the Airport Base Station and connect my iMac straight to my DSL modem via ethernet.
I can access all other internet services via Airport - but not the movie trailers. I would imagine there is some firewall issues with the Airport Base Station - but I don't know how to fix it.
Anybody able else able to see movie trailers on an Airport network?

Some people have reported that removing their router

Yes that thread gave me a fix:

Try the following:
1 - Go to "Sharing" on the System Preferences and
turn ON the Firewall
2 - on the right on the Firewall pane select "New"
and choose "Quicktime"
Voila, it works. (Even if you turn OFF the firewal)l
it still works.

Airport express won't work with Extend Network, only Create Network

My Airport Express when it is setup to extend my network while plugged into Ethernet will Create a network under settings. If I change this to Extend A Network it doesn't work properly. It keeps kicking me on and off WiFi, but the former way works with no foreseen issues. What is going on? I can't extend my guest network with the first option, I don't believe.
I have a 5th Generation AirPort Extreme and a 1st Gen AirPort Express.

This is the correct setting to "extend" the network using an Ethernet connection. Technically, this is called a "roaming" network.
If I change this to Extend A Network it doesn't work properly.
This is because "Extend a wireless network" is used only when AirPort devices communicate with each other using wireless only......not Ethernet.
It would help if Apple used settings like "Extend a network using Ethernet" and "Extend a network using wireless only".....but they don't.
The AirPort Extreme will need to be configured as the main router if you want it to provide a Guest Network. It cannot do this if it is configured in Bridge Mode.

Filter don't work or I don't understand the workflow

I use AP for long time without problems.
Maybe I don't understand the workflow of filters.
I edit some photos, make HDRs and use external Plugins from Nik.
When I use the filter to show TIFFs or edit with external applications I don't see the fotos when I use both rules.
When I use only TIFFs I see TIFFs but only BlackWhite fotos. The colored HDRs also TIFFs but I don't see it.
When I use only External Edit I see HDRs but only colored HDRs.
When I use both I see nothing, see screenshot.
Make I a mistake ?
I will not use keyword AP should do his job.

Flash 10 player for Mac - overlays don't work (pic inside)

I have a MacBookPro running Snow Leopard (10.6.2 - although this problem also existed when I was previously running Leopard 10.5). This is what Flash looks like on Myspace and YouTube for me:
YouTube controls are intermittent (i usually can't hit the pause button and have to use the space bar to stop videos). annontations show up, but as empty ballons with no content. just like this ad pop-up for itunes. MySpace music players work, the audio plays back, the play button works and the next play button works, but there's no visual information for the tracks or playback.
I've tried this in Firefox, Chrome (beta, downloaded today), Safari and Opera. Same problem in all, which makes me think it's platform independent and purely a Flash problem - perhaps a conflict with something else?
However, I've tried uninstalling Flash (using downloaded Adobe's Flash Uninstaller), uninstalling Firefox (including the entire /Library/Application Data folder for Firefox with my user profile), rebooting and reinstalling Firefox 3.5.5 and Flash (using downloaded Adobe Flash Installer). No joy. Same problem.
Ironically this also happens on the Adobe Flash Player test page - the video plays fine, but the version box doesn't display any information:
That black box is what shows up when you rollover the Version Information area.
Any one run into this? I've looked all over but have been surprised by how little recent information there is. Any references to Flash Player/Mac problems seems to be almost a year old at best.
I have no idea any more what this could be. But it's been this way for months. It's manageable to some degree since the functionality is basically there. But it's incredibly annoying.
Is there an older version of Flash Player that works with Firefox 3.5.5 and Mac OSX 10.6.2?

The last really supported Flash for PPC was 10.1.102.64, but if it's for like Facebook or such, people have been fooling FB to think they have a later version installed.

Apple was emailing people that did, not sure if they still do.
It would be so easy to say "Mac Pro (2008) or later" instead we have:

Which not everyone knows is, or means "Mac Pro (2008)"

After Clean Install some Mac applications don't work.

I just had to do a clean install of Leopard 10.5.8 with Tiger 10.4. I now have some problems with the Mac software:
1) I couldn't do a Backup Restore for my Mail local folders. I finally moved them from my Previous System Folder. They show up in the Mail Viewer Window, but the contents are empty.
2) I couldn't do a Backup Restore for my Address Book Folder. I finally moved it from my Previous System Folder and replaced the Address Book Folder in Applications. However, it won't open up.
3) System Prefs from the drop-down Finder menu under the Apple symbol won't open up. I can open it from Applications.
4) Safari won't open up from the Dock's @ icon.
If anyone could give me advice to correct these I would be appreciative. Thank you.

In some cases "newer" version of an App will not run on Older OS software.
For instance Leopard's iChat 4 will not run in Tiger.
You say a clean install and do not say if you moved your Home Folder Contents back.
Your Mail would have been in there as would the Address Book info.
However related to the first item, you may have issues getting the older Tiger apps to read documents/Databases created by the newer Apps in Leopard.

Is a MAC address filter incompatible on an extended network?

Hello all,
I've bought myself an Airport Express and an Airport Extreme.
The Express serves two roles:
1. Play music
2. Extend my network (a real extension, not just a network join)
On my Extreme, I've setup MAC address filtering with a time-based access (to avoid hacking of my network during the night -- don't worry, I have WPA2 security too...). Here's what I've done:
- All devices: no access from 11 PM to 7 AM
- Airport Express: always access
- Macbook Pro: always access
So far, so good.
Now, the problem I see if the following: IF my Express has access anytime, then an unknown device CAN connect to my network at night (midnight for example) simply because it will connect on my Express instead of my Extreme! It's like an unlocked back door!
So, from what I see, when I extend a network, the MAC filtering is not passed along to the "extending" devices. Also, on an extended network, I CAN'T set a MAC filter... So I'm stuck with an unsecure extending device.
So, my question is the following: is this normal behavior or is this an oversight from Apple? In other words, how can I extend my network and "propagate" my security setting on all my devices?

HI Yes this works fine. I have these  wifi base stations these configurations on the same subnet in my place *using MAC filtering (access control)* in two extended networks.. Here's how I do it.
• AEBS 802.11n@5Ghz 9DHCP and WAN.. and MAC ADDRESSES. TimecapsuleTV = SSID="my5Gwifi" , closed network
• 1 x AEBS 802.11g 2.4Ghz snow coloured dome base station (connected through ethernet to the main 802.11n AEBS) + 2 x 802.11g APx's + 802.11N APX; closed network; name | SSID ="my2.4Gnetwork"; all bridge mode. FOr WDS add all MAC addreses of all devices like iphones, ipods, macs, pea-seas, PS2's etc and the other APX base stations too!.
Here's the deal:
for the 802.11N base stations (AEBS . TC or APX gen 2), the extensible wifi stations are through '+extend this network+" in the + Airport Utility+.. There is no provision for the extension stations to addf any ACCESS control if you use BRIDGE MODE> (as I would you to do advise).
• for the *802.11g or WDS* I have found that you must ADD all the MAC addresses in EACH of the base statsion. This is simple to do my exporting all teh mac address config lists and importing them as you need. THis works fine.
My company registers world wide all laptop wireless nics. We have over 300,000 employees (3 x 10**5) all dynamically VPN'ed adn mac address filtered for windows , linux and unix. it works for them worldwide. Walk into any office and you are connected.
As for me and others WEP, WPA2 and all that is a mess around for hours (with that awful redmond based software) with frustrating and a huge waste of time when some one tries to connect to your system with some of those ghastly microsoft opertating systems. They all have their quirks. Vista - well you mostly know.
In any case the simplest and I beleive effective for most is MAC ADDRESS fitering.
FWIW all ways can be infiltrated.. you just need to monitr your network or add a GBE hub and use cables where the cables are in a locked oom.

ACS - SSID - MAC-Filter separation

I’m trying to setup following environment:
WLC 5508 (OS 7.5)
Up to 60 Access Points 1602I
Two SSID’s are required
WPA/WPA2 Authentication is required
MAC-Filter should also be used
I’ve done the following configuration:
LAN Enviroment works
WLC Setup works also with all Access Points
SSID with WPA/WPA2 Authentication work
Clients can connect to each SSID
For the MAC Filter Setup I’m going to use an ACS 5.4 and an Active Directory. The ACS has successfully joined the Active Directory and at the active Directory I’ve create to groups:
CN=SSID1,OU=Authentication,DC=global,DC=lan
CN=SSID2,OU=Authentication,DC=global,DC=lan
These two groups I’ve selected after I joined the Active Directoy. I used the Active Directory (AD1) as an Identity group, which is used by a Network Access based Access Service. In my second step, I configured the WLC to use Radius authentication for MAC-Filter and everything works.
But now I’ve found my problem:
The ACS Server like work top down and first rule matches:
If a MAC is member of group SSID1 and the Client wants to join SSID 1 it works
If a MAC is member of group SSID2 and the Client wants to join SSID 1 it works, too. Because the rules are checkt top down first match. And the ACS will find the MAC in group SSID.
Is it possible to check at the ACS which SSID send the MAC-Filter request? or
Is it possible to get the ssid value from the Active Directory to use this value in my policies?
I would like to restrict the MACs from group SSID1 to SSID 1 and the MACs from group SSID to SSID 2.

Username: aabbccddeeff
Password: aabbccddeeff
You've to check, in which kind you have to send the MAC Address (aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff, aabbcc-ddeeff, AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF, and so on)
The attachments will show you a sample ACS Access Policy and the "caller-station-id" configuration and the configuration of a SSID from a Cico WLC 5508.

Seeing my files across an extended network???

I have a wireless extender in my house so as to push the signal right round the property. If my iMac is connected to the main router via wifi and my Mac Mini is connected to the extended network I cannot see any of my files?

chances are you have created 2 separate subnets, instead of extending the subnet from the primary router. Bonjour discovery protocols will not cross a router boundary from one subnet to another. If this was not the case, then everyone would see your stuff across the entire planet, and you would be seeing everyone else in the world's stuff
The question is how did you add this extension to your home network? Did you do it via WDS (Wireless Distribution System), or is the extension attached via an ethernet cable?
WDS should have just extended the existing subnet. However, if you just plugged in another router to an ethernet cable, then you have created a 2nd subnet.
In the ethernet case, you need to put the 2nd router into "Bridge" mode. This is done differently depending on the make and model of the router. Sometimes there is a setting called "Bridge" mode, some times it is a case of disabling the "DHCP" server in the 2nd router, and sometimes it is necessary to disable both DHCP and NAT services. A Goolge search may help.
In addition, in a bridged network, if you set the SSID name and password the same on both WiFi base stations, you will have a roaming network where your Mac will maintain connections as you roam about the house with a laptop.
