Mac Firefox cannot establish a connection to the server at

I have a power PC G4 mac running OSX 10.5.8 and Firefox 3.6.10 and occasionally get the error message that Firefox cannot establish a connection to the server at ourhealthcoop.net or getshen.com and various others. How can I fix this and what is causing it? If it is a firewall, then how do I find the firewall and what do I do to "make things right"?

If Firefox cannot connect to any site, the problem may be a firewall blocking access. For details on that and other possible causes see [[Firefox cannot load websites but other programs can]].

  • Whenever I open Mozilla Firefox a message comes up saying "Unable to Connect" and "Firefox cannot establish a connection to the server".

My internet works fine with other programs such as IE and Safari. I've tried removing Firefox from Windows Firewall's list of trusted or recognized programs, then adding it back but it still doesn't work. I have also performed a full system can of my computer using an antivirus program and the results show that my computer is not infected by a virus.

Open your iPhoto Library package with the Finder.
look for a folder titled Import or Importing and move it to the Desktop. Launch iPhoto to see if the message goes away.  If there is no message  check the contents of the Import folder to see if you want to keep any of those image files (usually they have not been imported into iPhoto). If you want to keep them then drag the folder into the open iPhoto window to import.

  • I a connected to the internet, but cannot establish a connection to the server to watch an insructional video

If you did the following 3 steps in the link and saw the screen pictured in the link, you are communicating with the router you are connected to (yours or unlikely but possible, someone elses of the same brand that is also unsecured and within range):
Step 1: Open a web browser and type the IP address of the WBR series router into the address bar (default is http://192.168.0.1).
Step 2: The default username is admin (all lower case) and the default password is blank (nothing). Click on OK.
Step 3: Click on the Setup tab at the top and then click on Wireless Settings on the left-hand side.
The MAC address you are seeing may be that of a connected device rather than the router itself such as your Mac or your modem but I'm not sure what they are displaying.
You can change the "Wireless Network Name" on the same page of settings to a unique name to be sure which router you are connecting to when you connect via wifi. That will also require you to reconnect as I have described below.
Note that in addition to changing the security mode you will also have to enter a passphrase twice in the bottom section. That is the password you will need to enter in your mac to connect to your wifi when it is secured. It is also likely that after you press Save the router will disconnect you and you will need to reconnect using the password.
Also note that as long as you are doing it you really should set it to WPA not WEP as WEP is not as secure. Quote from the same page:
WPA is a strong form of wireless encryption, however not all wireless adapters support this feature. If your wireless adapter does not support WPA you will want to use WEP to secure your wireless network.
If none of that helps, you may want to try a D-Link user forum as non of this is Mac specific and a forum devoted to routers is likely to be more helpful.

  • Since getting broadband I cannot establish a connection to the server.

When I want to connect to the server from my desktop I get the message that Firefox can't establish a connection at en-us.start3.mozilla.com. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox and the same thing happened. However, Firefox works from my laptop.
After trying the suggestions, which didn't work, I decided to remove the program and then download it again. To my complete surprise the new program not only worked but it contained my bookmarks, etc. It's so nice to have Firefox back in use!

Check the settings you have for Firefox on your laptop. It's possible that your desktop machine has different settings. Also, have you set it to use a proxy server on either machine?

  • I'm getting a message saying that Firefox cannot establish a connection to google.

Something happened to Firefox yesterday - and now all I can get is a message saying that Firefox cannot establish a connection to google.
I searched for help via IE and I tried all the fixes suggested. I even restored my computer to an earlier state- that didn't change anything; set network settings to No Proxy; then I uninstalled Firefox, deleted all the program files, and then reinstalled - but nothing seems to work.
I really don't want to have to use IE, and I'm not technical enough to really know what I'm doing at this point. I'm afraid I might have lost all my bookmarks, screwed something(s) up on my computer etc.
This is SOOOOOOOOOO irritating and frustrating - can someone help me please.

Sorry to hear about your bookmarks. When you uninstalled Firefox, did you tell it to remove your personal data? That unfortunately would be irreversible, so hopefully you didn't do that.
You mentioned deleting some folders. Your bookmarks and other Firefox settings data normally are stored in a hidden folder under C:\Users\''username''\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox. I'm not sure whether you dug down and deleted folders under there. If so, please check the Windows Recycle bin and try to restore the Mozilla\Firefox folder to a safe location (e.g., Documents).
Did you use Firefox's Reset feature at any point? That would have moved your old settings folder to your desktop, inside a folder named Old Firefox Data. Hold on to that if you have it.
Regarding Google, I wonder whether your computer has contracted any malware infections that might be modifying your access. You could try the tools in our support article [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]]. Those are free and take a considerable amount of time to run. If they seem to finish quickly and require a payment for cleaning, you may have a serious infection. In that case, try the specialized malware cleanup forums listed in the article.

  • Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at "Every Website" but IE and Safari work just fine.

    Unable to connect
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at google.com.
The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
    moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
    connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
