Mac for Windows Software

Hi, I have a Mac OS X 10.5.8 operating system. When we purchased the computer, I knew I would have friends that used a windows operating system, so we purchased the mac for windows software. Sometimes we I am sending an attachment to an email that I know I have "saved as" in a doc. format rather than a docx., why can't the party open the attachment. They said it was a DAT file? Could I be doing something. I do apologize up front if this not something I can post. I am trying to solve this problem myself rather than spending the money for tech support. Thank you. esrmp2

I really don't understand what you mean by "Mac for Windows software."
Unfortunately, the problem lies with the recipient's mail program, likely Outlook. Have they saved the attachment to their hard drive first? Have you tried sending it as a PDF? That might let them open the attachment.

Hi I have just updated my computer and I seem to have lost the disk which came with my ipod (ipod for windows software 1.0). Does anyone know where I can download this so I can transfer my music to my ipod?

Using Mac Word for Windows software using Parallels

Hello,
I'm using Parallels. I'm running a Windows program. The program has an export to Word function. I do not have Word on Windows, I just have MS Office on the Mac side. When I Export to Word in Windows, it says I need to have Word installed. Is there a way to have my Windows software utilize Word using Office for Mac?

Sorry, but no. Save the file on your Mac OS X volume if you have third-party software on Windows that enables you to write to a Mac drive. Or find out if you really need to have Word installed in order to export a file from your program to a Word compatible file.

Program for reformating ipod on mac for windows?

Does anyone know of a program that will format an ipod from a mac but it will also work on a computer running windows because I know that the mac format is not reconized by windows.

Open Windows doc on Mac without Windows software?

I'm thinking of switching to a Mac, and was wondering if I am able to open a Windows document on a Mac without installing the Windows software.

I don't know what a "Windows document" is.
If you are talking about a Microsoft "Word" document then you have several choices to open it on a Mac.
Word for Mac
OpenOffice
Install Windows on the Mac and open the document with MS Word
I'm sure others will have many more suggestions.

An emulator for windows software

I need to run a simple windows software program on my Macbook running 10.6.4
I have just looked at crossover and also at iemulator.
It appears that crossover does not require the installation of Windows software. Am I reading that correctly?
iemulator does require windows, but it has the added advantage of working on all my Macs including a non-intel Mac.
I don't anticipate needing this for many applications, but I would like to have something that is simple.
Have you found any solution that might work for me?

Your MacBook and your Mac Mini if it has at least 4 USB ports on rear can both use the VMWare, Parallels, VirtualBox, and Boot Camp. These programs are known as virtualization engines. These are not to be confused with emulators. Emulators emulate hardware. An Intel Mac does not need CPU or GPU hardware to be emulated, and only needs the firmware that is more commonly known to PCs to be given to the environment in question.
Crossover does not require Windows installation, but does require an Intel Mac such as your MacBook or a 4 plus USB port Mac Mini. Its application support though is nowhere near as great as actually having a full fledged virtualization software. You can check its website to find out which application support it does have.
Before you get any virtualization, WINE, or Emulator software, ask yourself what applications made for Windows you need to read their documents on a Mac? Maybe there is a Mac public domain software that can read the same documents.

Format External Drive - From Mac for Windows

I have a Maxtor One-touch that I need to back up a bunch of data for a Windows XP user. After some research, I thought that formatting the drive in the MS-DOS (FAT) format would do it, however, after doing so and moving all of the data, I have tried the Harddrive on a PC running Windows XP. The drive doesn't mount.
The external drive is a PC/MAC compatible version. Am I overlooking anything? Is there something I need to do in windows to access the drive.... because it's not obvious.

follow either Templetons advise or (if not possible) use Disk Utility and set the partition scheme (behind the Options button) to MBR (Master Boot Record) and use MS-DOS (= FAT32) as file system.
That should also do the trick.
The 'standard' partition scheme on Intel Macs is GPT (GUID Partition Table) which can sometimes lead to the effect with Windows PC that you observed.

HT4796 PC won't reconnect to Mac for Windows Migration?

My PC suddenly disconnected with my Mac during the Windows Migration Process. The Mac still says transferring information but my PC is trying to reconnect. What is the problem here?

So I tried a different account and swapping out the cables. Even broke out as brand new one. No joy on Windows 8.1. I'm going to guess there was something in my Win 8.1 settings that prevented iTunes from syncing, since the computer recognized my iPhone, and even suggested I transfer the camera roll photos, but did NOT load iTunes.
SOLUTION: I finally got it to sync to the RIGHT (but not the LEFT!) USB port on my MacBook Pro with Retina running Mavericks. Why not the left port? Is there anything different about it? Works fine for other stuff.
Back in July, everything synced to my Windows desktop just fine -- but of course that was before iOS7 and Windows 8.1.
So I guess I should mark this solved. If anyone with a similar problem is reading this, I would say your best chances of syncing an iDevice running iOS7 to a computer would be to find a Mac running Mavericks and try ALL its available USB ports before giving up. Failing that, find a PC NOT running Win 8.1.

IPod for Windows Software 1.0

Hi,
I've been having some ipod issues (my computer isn't recognizing it) so I've been doing various things to fix it. One suggestion was to reinstall my original software that came with my ipod (as my computer no longer runs ipod watcher so I though I'd give it a try). But my ipod was Mac formatted and so's the CD. I totally forgot how I managed to download this software in the first place. Any have an idea where I can download this information? Thank you.

I have, but my ipod screen says only "ok to disconnect." My computer senses my ipod (I can hear the new hardware alert) but I cannot see it on my computer or itunes. Could it be antivirus software? I connected it to my boyfriends computer and it didn't recognize my ipod either - but he didn't have itunes. Would that matter?

But flash-based extensions will keep working for CS5 and CS6 applications.
But you are right, this is not the solution to choose if you want to make an hybrid extension for CC.

Cant find right media player on Mac for Windows Media Mpeg-4 files

o Must transfer WMP mpeg 4 files via bluetooth to mac
o Have tried DivX converter = "unknown error (-2041)
DivX player = nothing, just blinking pause button
Flip 4mac (WMV) = won't read (won't even make itself available as option for file)
VLC = picture but no sound (yay)
Windows Media Player = won't read (won't even make itself available as option for file)
Quick time = "invalid sample description found in movie"
MPlayer 0SX2 = picture but no sound (yay, and yes volume is turned up on all devices)
It's only a few files stuck on broken Sprint PPC 6700 which I am exchanging for new one but want to preserve a few short home movies. Can't hook up w/ windows pc because that's the part that's broken (cable jack) and must use blue tooth, my windows pc has no blue tooth. Files transfer and play but at best it's just video and no audio.
Am off to store for blank cd to see if I can burn files to disc on mac and a memory card (for phone) for temp back up. But don't know if that will solve problem, just band-aids.

My guess is that 10.4 does not recognize the .sitx format that previously worked on my 10.3
Mac OS X 10.4 no longers comes with StuffIt Expander. You'll need to install that to be able to use .sitx files.

Does Apple have a free download that allows you to run windows programmes without installing windows OS software?

Wine usage on Macs is tough since general Wine is all command line and build yourself from source code.
Wineskin is free, and is geared toward turning your Windows apps into Mac Apps.

Best Way to Set up new Macs for Windows Servers

I am trying to get 5 new iMacs set up to my schools servers running Windows Server 2003. No one else has time to set these lovely machines up and I have no expereince doing any sort of networking. I need to get the machines to login to student accounts and save all the prefence changes and such there and not on the computers. According to my boss this was where they were having problems when trying to set them up. So if anyone has any good tutorials or such they could pass on to me, it would be greatly appreciated.

The problem with all these instructions that i found when setting up our network is that they all rely on you having a Win2k and a OSX server. This is not the case i think for many of us in small/medium size organizations. We have OSX clients, but not a server nor a spare OSX workstation to make a server out of. Now im sure these various documents can be modified to fit this client only situation but i have been unable to find anyone that has done so yet. I intend to do it myself at soem point but havent found the time yet. We run a mixed network at the office with win2k3 domain but we dont have out mac clients bound to it yet.

Export from Mac for Windows Media Player - square pixel widescreen

I'm working with a square pixel wide screen iPad animation video. I built comps in AE and am editing in Premiere. I'm having issues with playback in Windows Media Player. Keyframe interpolation and cross dissolves are causing glitches. My pixel ratio is 872x486 And I want to export from Premiere with better results in WMP.
Your help with export settings is greatly appreciated.

Does windows really run the same on a mac with bootcamp for any made for windows apllications?

I want to buy a mac for work, but the softwares we use are for windows ( iris-net, easera systune, elgar) . If i install windows on bootcamp, it will work?
