Mac freezes after startup

Hi, I have a macbook aluminium from 2008, 2 GHz Intel core 2 duo, 2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 memory and using OSX Lion 10.7.3 Everything is up to date.
For the past year or so my mac has sometimes frozen after it starts up. All icons and background load, EXCEPT my google notifier on the top tool bar. That's how I know my mac is freezing. But it's frozen before I started using google chrome and years after using google notifier. So I don't think those are why it's freezing.
When I click things the rainbow spinwheel comes on and it stays that way, so I just turn it off and reboot. Sometimes this will happen a couple times in a row, if I'm lucky it won't freeze for weeks. I don't know what is causing it or why it's so sporatic. I copied my console system log. Please help me! I'm afraid I'll turn it on and it won't start again. Thank you!

Mac Pro on 10.6.8 freezes after startup

Since updating to 10.6.8 my 2009 MacPro will freeze after startup when opening finder, safari and itunes (so far). No beach ball and ForceQuit doesn't work. Resolved only by a hard shutdown with the off switch and restarting. Never a problem on restart. This problem seems identical to that described in an archived discussion (after an update to 10.5). It means that a third-party system modification you installed is causing the problem.
Reboot as usual (not in safe mode) if you haven't already done so. Don't launch any of your usual applications. Launch the Terminal application, copy or drag -- do not type -- the line of text below into the window, and press return:

Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.)
Next, do the same thing with this line:

Acrobat Reader 9.1.x freezes after startup

Hello,
Our Acrobat Reader is having problems on some machines during startup that it completly freezes after startup.
I've traced this with procmon and have seens that a certain file "sharedEvents" is trying to to somthing buth it is hanging on
lock - unlock. Killing All process of Acrobat Reader and deleting this file and then re-starting the program isn't helping because it keeps 0 kb and the mentioned behaviour is trying to do something with this file.
the file can be found in %appdata%\adobe\acrobat\9.0
Our profile's is redirected , it is working for most of the users but some users are having this problem.
Can anybody tell me what Acrobat Reader is doing with this file and is there a work around to initialize everything back again so the
user can startup the program normally so it is not freezing after startup without having to remove and install it back again ?

The problem I'm having is a problem on the journal file. After some more investigating it look that the problem can be related to oplocks since we have enbaled oplocks on our server (were the file is placed trough folder redirection). We will check this ...
I've already disabled oplocks on client side and then everything is working however we are using Vista in combination with offline files and if you disbale oplocks then offline files will not work so we are looking a bith further to see what we can do on server side ... to be continued ...

PS CC 2014 freeze after startup

Photoshop CC 2014 freezes after startup on MacBook Pro.
Start screen dissapears, all tools and panels are loaded and then the app crashes.
I tried to reinstall twice but it changed nothing.

Why does my Mac begin to flash then freeze after start up?

Could be many things, we should start with this...

1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)

4. Select your Mac OS X volume.

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

My Mac freezes after waking up

I have a rMBP mid 2014 that keeps freezing after sleep, but not every time, since I upgraded to latest Yosemite 10.10.3. I can move the mouse and close all active programs, but it takes long time and will anyway not restart after that. I have to force power off and then power on again, then it will work for a while.
I have tried to do the upgrade again och even tried to reinstall Yosemite again, but it didn't help. Here's a report:

Rid the MBP of CleanMyMac. It may very well be the source of your problems.
NO so called cleaning or performance applications should be installed in a Mac. At best they will do nothing, at worst they can corrupt your system.

MBP Freezes After Startup - Fixed Version Cue Already!

I installed the OS X security update last week and i had the problem where after boot-up I can see the mouse pointer but the entire desktop is frozen. I deleted Adobe Version Cue from the Startup Items and that solved the problem.
Until today, the SAME thing started happening. I have NOTHING in my startup items. At this point, I can't use the computer unless I do Safe Boot and then it works ok. The only thing I can pin it on is that the first freeze up happened when I was running Adobe Acrobat Professional 7.0 and converting a document to PDF. It froze and then every subsequent reboot freezes about 10-20 seconds after startup.

Ok in the 30 seconds I had before my machine froze, I opened the activity monitor and under all processes found that there was a root pdf process using 80-100% of the processor, after force quiting this process I haven't had the problem agian and have been able to reboot with any problems.

HP Pavilion P7-1225 Desktop Freezes After Startup. Frustrated!

Hi,
My family's HP Pavilion P7-1225 desktop computer freezes a few moments after startup, most times. However, it will occasionally work just fine for hours and then suddenly lock up. Over the weekend a sort of clicking sound was heard followed immediately by the freeze. Restarted a few times, heard noise, got lock up. We're not hearing the noise now but it's still freezing up.
We have yet to talk to HP Support about it, but no other professional has been able to solve it (and we have had many try). Please help!

Many things could be causing your issue. Intermittent freezes can be very difficult to solve. Since so many professionals have already tried to solve your issue then it's probably time to contact HP Support. As such, I am not going to suggest what has probably already been suggested and/or tested.
I don't know if you are using an UPS but transient changes in line voltage (too low or even too high) will often times cause a failover and clicking noises (relay closing and opening) with some UPSs will be heard. I hear clicks from my UPS at times even though the lights don't flicker. A poor or faulty UPS could cause issues like you are experiencing. You might also having an electrican check the circuits in your house. You might want to isolate your PC equipment off circuits that might have high current start up devices that might cause local voltage surges.

FME freezing after startup

I'm trying to setup FME to generate a live video stream from
a Philips SAA7130 capture card and Intel c-media audio input port.
Shortly after startup the program freezes, if I disable the audio
input in device manager FME does not freeze and works with video
only. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem with audio
capture freezing FME and are there any log files or a debug mode
that could help figure out where the problem is?

Yep, had it all the time with FME 1. Which version of FME are
you using (version/build)? Replicated the issue with usb capture on
a later version, but it went away with latest FME and latest usb
drivers.

Mac freezes after 10 minutes, hard drive and sata cable replaced

MacBook Pro (MacBook Pro 15" Unibody 2.53 GHz Mid 2009) froze about a month ago. Computer would get slow and then just stop responding. Wouldn't even respond to force quit commands. Press and hold power button only way to free it up.
Directory Scan, Volume Structure failed. Bad Blocks.
Purchased new hard drive (Western Digital Blue 320 GB Mobile Hard Drive: 2.5 Inch, 5400 RPM, SATA II, 8 MB Cache) and replaced. Try restore from time machine, fails - freezes up with about 20 minutes remaining to finish.
Got a USB SATA cable (external) and new SATA cable (internal) for computer.
The drive and computer work fine when connected via external USB. Ran Apple Harware Test (ok), reset NVRAM, all software is up to date.
I replaced SATA cable in computer and tried drive internal - same problems. Still freezes after working for just a short while.
So to sum it up, new drive works via external USB but not when installed internally.
Any ideas what it could be? Did I buy the wrong drive? Do I have two bad SATA cables? Something else entirely?

On you picture going from right to left. the cables are/WIFI/Optical Drive/Hard Drive/ Battery. What you have circled is the cable for the Hard Drive. Sometimes you can have a little extra tape on the connector. I would not use it as a grab point to remove an reseat the cable. You would want to carefully pull the cable loose and make sure there is no separation in it and then reseat it. I cannot see your hard drive in the picture,so I do not know if you have the sata or ssd drive. If it is the sata drive ,do you hear any light clicking noise when you startup? This would mean that you have possible drive damage. If you have a ssd drive (solid state drive) it is not possible to damage the drive by jarring it as there are no moving parts. Make sure all connection cables are fully seated. Include reseating of memory. Okay, you definitely have a network connectivity problem. OS X Server is not supposed to behave that way. What kind of network infrastructure do you have? What make/model routers, switches, hubs, whatever? WIred/wireless? What class cabling or if wireless, what class wireless?
is there a way to restart smb service on the macbook, or even fix it, so that it doesnt have to always be reconnected?
Yes. Usually you just disconnect and reconnect at will.

2008 Quad 3 Ghz Mac Pro freeze after startup

I'm writing this on my MacBook Pro since my tower is no longer functional. I'm not sure what to do with it but I'll do my best to describe what it's doing. It is a 2008 Mac Pro, with two dual core 3 Ghz Xenon processors, 10 GB Ram, 3.75 TB hard drive space, ATI Radeon 1900 XT video card.
Push power to boot up sometimes it boots up normally other times the fan just just excellerates to high and the tower does nothing, and I have to force a shut down. On the next boot up it always does the fan thing again resulting in a second force shut down, then a second attempt to boot back up same result, almost always on the third attempt it will boot up to the desktop. if that's not odd enough it gets weirder.
Whether it takes me three tries to get to the desktop or it goes there the first try it will run for a few min, then the screen gets blocky (like a pattern of squares or artifacts all over the screen and the system is now completely unresponsive except I can see the mouse moving, I've waited to see if it will come out of it, but it doesn't so I force a shut down.
At first I thought, maybe my hard drive is failing so I get the System restore OSX disk. It behaves the same way when booted up with the System disc. The more I think and look around I'm beginning to think the video card is going bad. This kind of behavior was intermittent at times but today I can't use it for more than a few min. I took the door off and after letting it set I booted again but again still same thing. the only place that I feel a lot of heat is from the video card especially around the vent near the ports. I've tried removing the card but it doesn't seem to want to come out. I've removed the bracket with the two screws It feels like it's coming out of the socket but something is holding it into the case and I don't want to force it.
So here are my questions, does this sound like it's a bad video card? And if so is there some trick to getting it out, even if it's just to look at it and perhaps clean any dust out of it in case it's getting clogged.

it would seem it's in the acceptable range, I'll have to look up Temperature monitor and see if I need to use a SMC Fan Control to up the default.
The inside was only moderately dusty which I went ahead and cleaned out, I make it a habit of cleaning the insides out from time to time. The only exception being the Radeon 1900 XT which after removing the fan and giving it a good shot of air and a large clump of dust coming out the other end (by the heatsink fins) makes me think that that is the likely culprit of my 1900XT's early demise. Cleaning out the card and putting it back in though made no difference, so I think the overheating damage is done. I have thought about giving the oven bake method a shot if the card is crap anyway there's nothing to lose. Also thought about checking the firmware to see if it needs updated.
4SNS is a sensor of some kind which I guess the "ICBC" refers to the specific sensor? A search of Mac Pro sensor ICBC came up with "ICBC Current, CPU-B core current" perhaps that will give me an idea what to look for in monitoring the heat. As long as it's not a fatal warning I'm happy, I was starting to freak out a little thinking the logic board was bad and the unit being out of warranty facing the reality of either taking it to a service center and paying an arm and a leg to fix or to just ebay the mac and use the money towards a new or newer MP. I can't really afford to dump close to a thousand bucks into a board replacement at an apple service center. I'm thankful I bought a laptop last year or I'd have no computer to work on. Hopefully once I get the Radeon 5770 sanity will be restored plus the 5770 is a better card than the 1900xt anyway. Mac Connection sure is taking it's sweet time processing the order though...

IMac freezes after startup; locks at Login screen

Hi,
I have changed the system date to an ealier date - a day earlier. After a few moments, my computer froze. Restarted my computer but it still freezes at login screen - keyboard doesn't work. The system works on safemode though, but normal startup doesn't work at all. No HW was added or removed except for the external USB drive. I also have tried the following items to no avail:
1) PMU Reset
2) Changed date/time to normal in safemode and installer-disk startup.
3) Disk/folders permissions tests were OK. Terminal disk check was OK.
4) Removed my internet connection and all external disks.
5) Created another user-admin account.
Please help me here. I'm backing up my data files right now and would reinstall my OS later as a last resort.
