  • IPod won't show up on itunes or mac, freezes, and doesn't play bought songs

Okay i have four issues with my iPod
    1. It won't show up on iTunes or on Mac desktop
    2. When i plug it into the USB port it freezes and say 'Do Not Disconnect'. It will not come out of this
    3. Every single song i have bought won't play on my iPod. They transfer fine, but when i click on a bought song it simply skips over it
    4. I authorized this computer but songs still need authorizing, and i have already authorized them
So we bought a new Mac and i plugged in my 30 GB video iPod for the first time. It showed up in iTunes then so i synced it to our new computer. Then i tried to listen to my bought songs and they simply wouldn't play. The iPod just skipped over them. I had one song out of three hundred or so that were bought actually play. Then i tried reauthorizing my new computer and getting rid of all the old computers that had been authorized. That didn't work, and the songs that actually needed to be authorized wouldn't be authorized even when i clicked on them.
So then i unplug and just listen to it as is for awhile but then i try plugging it in again and it just doesnt show up on my Mac desktop or iTunes. And the screen becomes frozen with the same message, 'Do Not Disconnect' I wait for a half an hour for it to show up and it never does. I have no choice to unplug it and then it is still frozen with that same message. Five hours pass, and it is still like that. It finally goes off and then it simply doesnt work. So i plug it in to my charger and its fine except the whole not playing bought songs business.
Please i beg if you have any answers to any of these problems HELP!!!!!

  • Mac freezing and kernel panics

Please help if anyone can. I'm not much of a computer expert.
I apologize in advance if I'm not asking this question in the right forum or topic- I haven't ever posted before today.
I have a PowerMac G5 dual 2 GHz processor machine running 10.4.9. Lately I have had problems with freezing and kernel panics, especially at startup or soon after startup.
I have 1 GB RAM, 150 GB hard drive with 117 GB free space. I have no peripheral devices hooked to my computer- just an Apple USB mouse and keyboard that came with my computer.
Panics occur at startup usually, and require a restart using the power button.
Sometimes the system profiler shows that I have only 1 CPU.
I've run all the Apple hardware diagnostic stuff, Disk Utility, Disk Warrior, etc, and it comes up clean- no problems. I've run fsck -fy, and I've done a full erase and reinstall, then update to 10.4.9. Problem persists.
Sometimes I don't get the startup sound, and then everything freezes.
Sometimes it freezes on the blue screen and shows the prohibitory sign.
Sometimes when it freezes, the fans go wild and just keep increasing in speed until I force restart.
Recent kernel panic log reads as follows:

    PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Based on that info, it sounds like either the optical or hard drive is beginning to go bad and perhaps the CPU on the logicboard. The fact it mentions iostorage, that typically deals with the storage devices on the computer. The fact that the CPU disappears is not good. Backup your data and try to replace the hard drive. See my FAQ* on backing up:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
A G5 takes SATA hard drives, and won't work with the Parallel ATA drives. SATA drives take the connectors shown here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA
The drive may still be under warranty even if the computer is not. Look on the sticky label on the outside of the drive.

  • Mac freezes and pop up in several languages instructs to shut down

My IMAC freezes continuously and I get a message in several languages to hold power button and power down.  System reboots but then same thing happens

    Hello WFSP,
disconnect all peripherals other than apple, restart your Mac, if the message comesback then you have a bigger problem. If you do not get the message then go one by one connecting your devices.
    Best regards

  • Mac freezes and deletes Logic saves

Ever since downloading the new operating system and when in Logic, my Mac sometimes totally freezes to the point where only turning it off (holding down the power button only works) is the only option. This is annoying as its never happened before but whats worse is it keeps deleting the last 2 or 3 hours work i have done in Logic.
No idea why as i press control & S every 2 or 3 mins out of habit. I keep loosing loads of work.
    Any ideas
    Thank you

Logic 9 and i was on the last operating system. Is it Mountain Lion? the newest one next to Mavericks anyway
    Thanks mate

  • Intel Mac freezing and screen going black

    Hi,
Has this been happening to anyone else? My Intel Mac was freezing up a lot a month or so ago. It mostly happened while I was using Motion 2, but also while using Firefox or when it was asleep.
I did a clean install of Tiger and only updated to 10.4.9 (I thought the newest OS update may have caused the problem.)
It has froze a few times since then, but not as often. Just now I was working in Photoshop and the Finder and the screen just went black like it was asleep, but would not wake up. I finally did a hard reboot using the power button.
(When it was freezing up about a month ago, usually the screen would freeze up or I would get the spinning beach ball of death.)
After I rebooted the error report alert came up and here is the report:

Any advice or suggestions? Call Apple Care again?
    Thanks!

This is how I would approach it:
_Initial troubleshooting_ (you've probably done this already – sometimes it is easier to fix the problem without finding the root cause)
    - +Disk Utility+. Boot from the Mac OS® X install CD. After the language selection screen, when the main screen comes up, wait until the menu bar at the top of the screen populates. Then select Disk Utility from the menu. More information is available:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301170
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
    - Reset NVRAM/PRAM. See:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
_Further troubleshooting_: the following may assist in isolating the cause of the kernel panic.
+If the problem still occurs primarily in only one program+ (such as Motion 2), then uninstall that program.
+If it seems the problem is random now+: did you install any new hardware recently? If yes, then remove that hardware and see if the problem still occurs.
+In System Preferences+, under Sharing, make sure that file sharing, Windows sharing, web sharing, remote login, etc. are turned off.
+Hardware diagnostics+: on some Macs, you can run an Apple® Hardware Test by holding down the '''d''' button while booting the computer from the Mac® OS X install CD. You may see a blue screen with a small icon in the middle. After about 2 minutes, instructions will appear; please follow the on-screen instructions for running an "extended" test. If the Apple Hardware Test finds a problem, then take the computer to the Genius Bar® at the local Apple store, or call AppleCare® again; maybe with the 12GB of RAM you have, some of might be bad. Also, when you visit the Genius Bar or call Apple Care, have a printout of the above (your post) available; additionally, you may wish to write down the kernel panic message again so the support staff or you yourself can compare the 2 error screens and see how they are similar or different. Anyway I strongly suspect a hardware problem but it could be almost anything.
+Open up your favorite antivirus program+ and scan the entire hard drive just to make sure, if you have not already done so.
If all else fails and you need to reformat (you should probably go to the Apple Store to rule out any hardware problems before doing this), then choose the "zero all data" option under "security options" in the Disk Utility program. This erases the entire disk, not just the directory structure.
In conclusion I think you are right about calling AppleCare again but I hope these steps are useful (if they are not a recapitulation of what you already know).

  • Mac Freezing and Starting up Issues

My Mac G5 has been acting funny lately, every time I leave it alone for more than 2 or 3 hours, when I come back it's frozen. This can be very bothersome but it's also not the only problem. When i try to boot up my Mac again, it goes to a gray screen and just sits there, then the fan will start up and create a loud noise. Usually I have to put the OSx instal disc in, hold down C, and then when it goes to the install menu I click on "Select Startup Disc" then tell it to use my harddrive. MY computer then will retsart and everything will be fine..... that is untill it freezes again 3 hours later.
Now I've tryed verifying and repairing the disc drive, and choosing the startup disc under preferences. But nothing seems to work! Please help me, this is getting very annoying.
I have an iMacG5, single CPU at 1.8 GHz. I've already ran the Hardware test disc and it said there were no problems, I need help! Ive got 3 projects I need to have done this summer and alot of people are getting mad at me because I can't work on them.

Assuming "repairing permissions" reported that your HD was repaired & OK, except for the keyboard & mouse, disconnect all peripherals from your computer & try the suggtions (if you have not already done so) in the following:
Mac 101 Lesson 1: Computer Crises . Scroll down & click on the "My Mac stopped responding (aka "crashed" or "froze")" link.
If the above does not work, you may need a 3rd party utility. A few are mentioned and/or recommended in the following link:
    User Tips Library-System maintenance 10.3/10.4
    Good Luck!

  • My mac freezes and is incredibly slow

I have a one-year-old Macbook Pro that is 15 minutes out of support coverage. It is the worse Mac I've owned in over 20 years. It is without question the S L O W E S T mac I've ever owned. I am running OS X 10.9 with 16 GB of memory.
Press the start button, here are some times I experience.
1:55 until the password screen appears
3:15 I get a message to log onto iCloud. I've never used iCloud and don't have an account.
6:00 The desktop and Dock appear.
7:00 The first application may be usable.
Applications crash all day long. Firefox is the worst. I spend a good part of the day watching the beach ball spin.
The Force Quit function rarely works.
Several times a day I must hold the power button down to forcibly shut down the computer because everything has frozen. I then have to press it again to restart.
I run Sophos anti-virus software and often run Disk Utility to verify the disk and repair permissions.
The Mac store people told me running Mountain Lion was much slower and now I cantestify Maverick is much worse.
Can Apple send me a 10.7 OS disk? Can I drop back to that OS and not lose everything on my computer?
Is Apple aware they have problems and are they trying to fix them?

    Go to WSM Preferences/Transfer.
Server Address is your server ID number. It will be a string like 72.19.26.163
Server Time - Click the "Get it" button
Initial path is the name of the main folder on your server that contains all your website files.
Username and Password are the ones that get you into your server control panel.
If you don't know or can't get the server number or initial path ask your hosting company's tech support.

  • Problem with my mac freezing and screen glitching?

I have the 2013 15 inch retina Macbook Pro and I have been having a problem with it lately. Whenever I use safari, my browser is freezing constantly. Its is only when I use safari, not any other applications, such as Microsoft word. Normally, I wouldn't consider this a big issue, but it gets worse. When I don't navigate on my computer and let it rest for a minute or so (while running safari and sometimes other applications) this screen pops up:
I have not dropped my computer, nor done anything to cause any damage to it. It hasn't moved from my desk and I am clueless as to what the problem could be.

If you are continuing to see this type of display distortion on your MacBook, I would suggest working through the troubleshooting steps outlined in the attached article.

  • Mac freezes and says I need to restart because boot camp fails to load.

2007 Macbook 2.16ghz dual core intel 4 gig ram 128 gig sata hd running osx lion 10.75 and Boot Camp is running Windows 7 64 bit. The screeen freezes before I am able to copy and paste the error. How do I fix this? Please help!

I then load the recovery partition by holding down the option key immediately after pressing the power button.  Macintosh HD, the windows partition, and recovery HD pop up, I select recovery, then go into Disk utility. Then the Windows partition is in the top left, I select that, and repair disk, however the repair disk option is not accessable. The only option is verify disk. Repair disk is not available!!

  • Mac freezes and askes to restart when I render in FCP

I am new to forums but Im in need of some good help. I am trying to create a powerpoint type of video through FCP using imotion videos I've created. The clip is no longer than 5 minutes long and only has one song attatched to it. It has around 12 clips from motion. I was able to render no problems when it only had closer to 6 and 8 but now the mac stops at about 46% completed render and gives me a message that I need to press the power button to restart and nothing works until I do so..Its equivelent to the blue screen of death . Anybody have any ideas?

My first guess is there is a corrupt clip where the render crashes.
Try taking them all off line then bring them on one by one paying particular attention to the one around the 46% mark of the timeline.

    Hi m,
Given that you're under warranty (or have paid for a repair), you're still under warranty and have worked with Apple on this issue. Because of that, I suggest you continue working with Apple on this issue; if you do other things, and you end up having to go back to Apple to get it fixed, at the least it will complicate matters.
