Mac freezes, iPod now frozen

I was updating my iPod mini when my Powerbook froze. Had to force quit with iPod upgrading. When I unplugged iPod it was frozen with 'do not disconnect' window showing. This will not go off. I cannot power it off.
And when I plug it back into re-started Powerbook and attempt to upgrade, iTunes preferences says 'no iPod connected.'
I called Apple tech support but they want $50 to talk to me about it. I declined the offer because I just paid them $375 for the Apple protection plan (which obviously doesn't cover iPods). Is there anything I can do to unstick the iPod. Is it now completely broken? Or is this a simple issue to fix?

Thanks for replying. What I did was... nothing. The next morning the battery had run down. I simply plugged it back in and it worked fine.

I have a first gen ipod touch and when i wanted to put apps on it so i paid the $5 to upgrade my ipod, but it stopped in the middle of the upgrade, my itunes works fine lets me see my ipod and everything. but my ipod is frozen with on the screen with the apple logo and the loading bar. and according to itunes, all my music is gone off my ipod after it did a "backup" before the upgrade.

Ya, i had a similar problem. i am trying to get the 4.1 software and half way through, it frigged up. it wants me to do a restore. when i do so, it says an unknown error has occurred. try resetting yours by holding the power and the round button until it restarts. if that doesn't work, i remember being on the phone with customer service a while back and they told me how to open the ipod as a mass storage device and manually format it. We should try to find out how to do that. (it is possible without additional software).

Okay I finally fixed it. I had to turn off wifi on ipad, connect ipad to computer with usb, unsync all music, deauthorize and then reauthorize my computer, and resync all music again! What a hassle but I now have all my music on ipad again.

I used the instructions at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173 to move my iTunes library from a PC to my new MacBook Pro.
Everything seemed to go smoothly...I moved the iTunes folder from the iPod to the Music folder on the Mac, then opened iTunes. Then something went wrong that I can tell will take me hours to fix. Or at least I hope not:
The first time I did it, all the songs had the exclamation point next to them and when attempting to play, I got the 'file not found do you want to spend hours re-linking all the files?' message. I moved the iTunes folder and tried it again. This time, about 95% of the 1,100+ songs had the exclamation point. And as I clicked on the few without the exclamation point to try and play them, they too developed the exclamation point blues.
Is this fixable? The .itl and .xml files are in the 'Music' folder. Should I try moving the iTunes folder from the iPod again? I also noticed that while my playlists and custom genre tags, etc. made it, the album artwork did not .

It is a likely possibility that the format of the folders is different between the 2 OS. Troubleshoot these
Make sure you have actually music files in the folder from your XP. Make sure you transfered your main music folder (My Music)
Do you have the folders in this order in your music category on your MacBook? iTunes>(iTunes Music Library.xml and iTunes Library data file)iTunes Music>(all of your music
If these dont work, then use Yamipod, a 3rd party utility that can extract all your info/music off your iPod into iTunes...

Can you hear it?
Boot from the install DVD and see what Disk Utility says.

PC to MAC and back on my Ipod, now my PC is not recognizing my Ipod anymore

I hope someone can help me. I never gave it much thought when I wanted to play my Ipod on my MAC at work, I have a PC at home that houses my Itunes library. Al went well when I first hooked up my Ipod. The I renamed my Ipod and it was all down hill from there. (maybe just a coincidence) but once I did the name change weird things started happening. My music would be grayed out so I could pic any of it. So I resync'd the Ipod with the new name. All was well from my PC to my laptop, so I took it to work and my MAC wouldn't find my Ipod .. then it just popped up and as to sync to the MAc.. I canceled but music was gray. mess with the sync music setting a little and then the music was available but gave me exclamation marks that the music was not there. (sigh) Now my Ipod just keeps scanning threough my playlist.. not stopping and My PC will not recognize/find my Ipod anymore. I don't get the "Do Not Disconnect" warning at all anymore. So I follow the support ideas but since my Ipod is not being recognized then I can not restore it. Can anyone help me Please!? Can't live w/o my Ipod and it's not even a yr old =/ appreciate your time.

When you connect the iPod to your computer and go to the Music tab to select which music you want to sync, iTunes will pop up a dialogue box that if you sync your music it will replace the music that is already on the iPod.
Since that sounds like what you want to do, just click ok and then sync.

Note that the fatal red X is often a clear indication that your iPod's HD is shot and in need of replacement. You'll need to take or send your iPod in for repair either through Apple or a third party service.

That's not good news. I'm sorry to say those photos may be gone.
Before giving up, you might try to force the iPod to restart. I've seen them "realize they're OK" after doing that, but rarely.
To restart, hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together for about 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

The same thing happened to me... Since two days the ******* thing keeps freezing after a while. Then I try to reboot and the screen goes white and it doesn't boot. If I wait like half an hour it boots again.
I thought it was a hardware problem, but the Apple Hardware Test founds nothing at all. I think it has to do with the software update I performed 2 days ago.
(MacBook Pro 15" Early 2011)
