Mac freezes when connecting camera

My camera >>Nikon Coolpix 775<< is listed as compatable to Tiger but I am not having any luck with it! Everything was working swimmingly until I upgraded all my software (Tiger, iPhoto, etc) last week. Now when I connect my Nikon everything freezes up--I have to do the dreaded hard reboot. I've tried creating a new library, checked my camera's card, and looked throughout the discussion boards but am stuck. It's miserable...
Would incompatability to my camera give me such a problem? What could be causing this?
Someone please help!

Hi Mate,
dont know if you have got your ipod working yet, but I have just managed to get mine back up and running at last!! I reinstalled my old ipod installer disc, erased the memory, and connected to my mac, it would get up to about 78 tracks then freeze again, really ****** me off, but then I charged my ipod fully and tried again, straight away all my tracks were loaded, I am so bloody pleased, took a gamble wiping memory though but had to try something!!
Hope this helps you,
cheers
Swordie.

This came from another thread, but worked for me.  Problem is with newest iTunes 4.62.  Unistall iTunes, as well as its helper programs (Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Divice Support, and Apple Software Update).  Reboot, and reinstall iTunes.  It will reinstall all the other ones and you should be able to connect your nano.  Good luck.

  • IPod Classic 80 GB Freezes when connecting to Computer

    Hi.
My iPod Classic 80 GB Freezes when connecting to my computer (Vista... yes... I know). I've got my iPod for over a year now and I've never had real trouble with it.
When I plug it in (iTunes already running) my computer gives me the 'thumbthumb' noise because an USB thingamajib is connected to the computer. At this moment my iPod freezes and stays on. iTunes doesn't seem to find my pod. When I disconnect my iPod, it'll stay on (doesn't go energy safe mode) and stays frozen until the battery is empty. But by then, I've already lost my playing info (Which I really value).
    Pllllllease help me out her.

Someone has finally found a solution to this problem and i decided that i would spread the word around ... so here are the steps:
    1) Quit iTunes.
    2) Delete iTunes from your Applications folder.
    3) Go to your ~/Music/iTunes folder. Delete or rename the "iTunes Library" file.
    4) Open the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder and look for the backup of your old pre-9 library; it should be dated at about the time you first ran iTunes 9. Copy it back out to the ~/Music/iTunes folder, and rename it to "iTunes Library".
    6) Go to <http://support.apple.com/downloads/iTunes8_21> and download iTunes 8.2.1. The page says it's for G3, but the Read Me file says it'll run on G4, G5, and Intel too. Open the diskimage and run the installer.
You should now be able to run iTunes 8.2.1 again.
And your iTunes will restore to before you upgraded and you won't lose anything.
*If you download the iTunes file from the "support.apple" link, and you can't open it, go to http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/06/28/apple-itunes-8-2-and-quicktime-7-6-2-di rect-download-links/ and download "iTunes 8.2 for Windows: iTunesSetup.exe

  • MBP freezes when connected to VGA projector

My MacBook Pro (15" 2.4Ghz SR, 4Gb) freezes when connected to a VGA projector, doesn't matter whether the DVI-VGA adapter is connected to cable first or last. Boot time while connected to the projector is also inordinately long. I have seen this happen a number of times specifically with other Santa Rosa MBPs.
I haven't called Apple yet on this and I suspect it will require a firmware update to fix; is this a known issue (and is it known to apple?)
    thanks
    --p

Just to update this thread with what I've posted elsewhere:
On my machine this problem only happens if the computer has been put to sleep before being connected to a projector. That is, put to sleep after being booted but before connection to the computer. It can be connected after booting without sleep. Once it has been successfully connected to a projector, it can be disconnected, put to sleep, awakened and reconnected with no problem.
I think that this "first sleep after boot" issue is what makes the occurrence of this problem so variable.
Some people just leave their computer on for long periods, only putting it to sleep when not using it. If they connected to a projector before putting it to sleep the first time they wouldn't see this problem.

  • Freeze when connecting to wifi after waking from sleep

This problem was isolated to my Powerbook when I wanted to connect to a public hotspot (it started with the latest updates). Now, however, after updating my iMac G5 with all the latest updates, it's happening to it at home on my own wireless network.
When I wake my computer, it freezes when trying to reconnect to the wireless network. The only way to get access is to hold the power button down long enough for it to shut down and then upon restart I have a workable computer that can connect to the internet fine.
I've repaired permissions and repaired my disk from the install CD. I've waited up to fifteen minutes to see if the freeze would terminate with some process timing out, but no luck.
The beachball appears when I rollover the airport status in the menu bar (and the volume and clock) but doesn't appear when I rollover other items in the menu bar (quicksilver and norton). However, if I click on anything everything freezes and the beachball "just won't quit."
Anyone have a clue what's going on? All help is very much appreciated.
    thanks,
    bryan

Hi bryan. Welcome to the Discussions.
    1. You wrote: "When I wake my computer, it freezes when trying to reconnect to the wireless network. "
1.1. How do you know that the problem is specifically related to trying to reconnect to your home WiFi network, as opposed to some other potential cause of a wake-from-sleep freeze?
1.2. Are you using an AirPort base station or third-party base station? If third-party, what specific make and model?2. You wrote: "I've repaired permissions and repaired my disk from the install CD."DId Repair Disk find any errors, even those it may have corrected? If so, did you write them down?
    3. You wrote: "The beachball appears when I rollover the airport status in the menu bar (and the volume and clock) but doesn't appear when I rollover other items in the menu bar (quicksilver and norton). However, if I click on anything everything freezes and the beachball "just won't quit.""Could be one of the other menu extras you have installed, i.e. the icons on the right side of the menu bar other than the Spotlight icon. Often menu extras are launched as Startup or Login items. My "Troubleshooting Startup and Login Items" FAQ can help you pin that down if such an item is causing the problem. Note that your AirPort connection won't work in Safe Mode, but it gives you a way of testing if the wake-from-sleep or menu extra freeze is related to a menu extra, especially a third-party menu extra launched as a Startup or Login item.
    4. See if your computer's serial number is in the range specified in the "iMac G5 Repair Extension Program for Video and Power Issues" document.
    5. As far as general iMac G5 troubleshooting goes:5.1. Rule out potential hardware problems. Run the Apple Hardware Test that came with the computer. Instructions for doing so will be found in the hardcopy manual that accompanied your computer. For additional details, see my "Apple Hardware Test" FAQ.
5.2. Check the diagnostic LEDs, a feature of your iMac G5. See "About the iMac G5 diagnostic LEDs."
5.3. If your iMac G5 will not turn on, see "iMac G5: Troubleshooting when your computer won't turn on."
5.4. See also the iMac Service & Support site.
5.5. Check the iMac G5 Discussions for similar reports from other users.
5.6. As a general check, run the procedure specified in my "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ. Perform the steps therein in the order specified. While you've done some of these steps already, it won't hurt to double-check this.
5.7. If the computer is either under warranty or covered by an AppleCare Protection Plan, don't hesitate to take advantage of your warranty and contact AppleCare.Good luck!

  • Why my Mac freeze when PDF files in the FINDER

I have that problem since yesterday: when I try to either select or even just view the content of a folder with PDF files in it, my Mac freeze progressively after few seconds. Then, the only solution is to force quit by holding the power button. Really annoying! What should I do? My computer is only 4-5 months old.
I've uninstalled Acrobat, verified all my drives with Disk Utility, repaired my permissions and emptied my library cache. Nothing... Could it be the recent Firefox update ( yesterday )? Until 24 hours ago, everything was fine.
    Thanks for the help!

Since this is happening in the Finder... try this:
Locate this file: com.apple.finder.plist /Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that file from the Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot.
If that didn't do the job, do a Spotlight search and look for any .pdf files you have downloaded and saved and DELETE them. Somewhere in your system you have a corrupted .pdf file.
And, check the hard disk. Even if you've done this already, try again:
Open Disk Utility, in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.
Insert your Mac OS X Install disc in your computer’s optical drive or an optical drive connected to your computer, and then restart your computer. When you hear the startup tone, hold down the C key until you see the progress indicator, which looks like a spinning gear.
Follow the onscreen instructions until the menu bar appears with the Utilities menu in it, choose Utilities > Disk Utility, click First Aid, and then click Repair Disk. When it's finished, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Disk. In the Startup Disk window select MacintoshHD 10.x.x and click Restart.
Also, the best way to have Apple be aware of these issues is to send them crash reports. Here's how to do that:
    Reporting problems to Apple
When an application quits unexpectedly, you see a dialog that gives you the option to submit a report about the problem, called a “bug report,” to Apple.
When you submit a bug report to Apple, it includes information about the problem and your computer’s configuration. Many problems are directly attributable to the hardware and software configuration.
No personal information is gathered about you or your computer. No information that can be used to identify your computer is sent, such as volume names, network addresses, or hardware addresses. For more information, click the link at the bottom of the page to see Apple’s customer privacy policy.
To submit a bug report to Apple:
    Connect to the Internet.
In the dialog that appeared when the application quit, click the Submit button.
Type a description of what you were doing when the application quit. List the applications that were open when the problem occurred, and any steps or hints to reproduce the problem.
Review the report in the Crash Report window.
Click “Send to Apple” to submit the report.
You won’t receive an immediate response, but Apple greatly appreciates your taking the time to submit a bug report. As the software is revised, these reports are reviewed to help improve the software.
Your computer also records details about the problem in a log file. You can use log files to troubleshoot problems with an application, or you can send a log to the application’s developer if it is requested.
You can view the logs in Console, located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.

  • ITunes freezes when connecting iPod Touch - even after restored

    Hi,
I have an iPod Touch 32GB 4th generation, I have never had any problems with it until now.
Today I tried to connect it to my iTunes (on my MacBook Pro - late 2011 model) in order to sync it so that I could transfer some of my new music and iTunes would freeze. The mouse would pinwheel and I would have to force quit (it would not respond for over 30mins if left unattended). I created a new admin user and the itunes on the other user recognised the iPod just fine. I used the other user to restore my iPod in the hopes that when connected to my library again, it would be a 'new' ipod and so it would no longer freeze. Unfortunately this was not the case, despite my library recognising an ipod in recovery mode and being able to restore it (so that I can now at least use it in its most basic form). It has subsequently frozen each time I connect my iPod. How can I fix this? Should I just wait for the next iTunes upgrade?
    Thank you
    Frances

    Hi Frances,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
The sugestions in the article below should help. They will resolve most issues that cause iTunes to stop responding when an iOS device is connected to the computer.
iTunes: May become unresponsive when connecting iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3219
    Symptoms
In rare instances, iTunes may become unresponsive when connecting an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to your computer. iTunes may become responsive again after you disconnect the device from the computer.
    Resolution
Expand All Sections | Collapse All Sections
Follow the steps below to troubleshoot the issue:
Install any available software updates for your computer.
For Mac OS X: Click the Apple () menu, choose Software Update, and follow the on-screen instructions.
For Windows: Refer to the documentation for your computer for instructions on using Windows Update to update your computer.
Update iTunes to the latest version.
For Mac OS X: Click the Apple () menu, choose Software Update, and follow the on-screen instructions. You can also download iTunes from the Apple website.
For Windows: Use Apple Software Update, or download iTunes from the Apple website.
Test with automatic syncing disabled.Reconnect your device and test to see if the issue still occurs. If your device is recognized successfully, you may be able to isolate which type of data is causing the issue. Do this by deselecting all syncing options under each of the syncing tabs and then sync. After that, re-enable your sync options one at a time until the issue returns.
Note: If the issue only occurs when syncing data from the Info tab is enabled (For example: Contact, Calendar, Mail account or Bookmark syncing), reset the Sync History (for Mac OS X instructions see this article, for Windows see this article).
For Mac OS X: Click the iTunes menu and choose Preferences. Click the Devices tab and place a check next to option to "Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically." Click OK.
For Windows: Click the Edit menu and choose Preferences. Click the Devices tab and place a check next to option to "Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically." Click OK.
Check your device for podcasts. If there are any podcasts, manually delete all podcast episodes from the device by sliding your finger across the podcast episode's name and tapping Delete. Once all podcasts are removed from your device, reconnect it to the computer, open iTunes, and test.
If possible, test to see if connecting your device to a different computer with the latest version of iTunes installed resolves the issue.
    Test with iTunes plug-ins removed.
    Quit iTunes.
Navigate to the following folder, based on your operating system:
    Windows XP:  C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes Plug-ins
    Windows Vista or Windows 7:  C:\Users\[username]\App Data\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes Plug-ins
    Mac OS X:
~/Library/iTunes/iTunes Plug-ins   (The "~" represents your Home folder)
    /Library/iTunes/iTunes Plug-ins
If any files are in this folder, move them to the Desktop temporarily.
Open iTunes and test to see if the issue is resolved. If so, you may leave these iTunes plug-ins removed. If you wish to re-use these iTunes plug-ins, consult the vendor for the iTunes plug-ins to see if any updates are available.
If the issue also occurs on a different computer:
If the issue does not occur on a different computer, or no other computer is available to try:

  • Nano 4. gen freeze when connecting earphone

3 weeks old nano 4. gen 8 gig tend to freeze when i connect eraphones. Both original earphones, and some old I got at home. If i blow hard in to the connection-area, it will sometimes work normal. It turns on as normal if not connected earphones.
Is it possible fixing this myself?

    From the linked thread:
Assuming you have already used iTunes 10.6, there is a file called iTunes Library.itl that iTunes creates and you will need to either delete it (if you don't care about losing your playlists) or replace it with the last version in the "Previous Libraries" folder (assuming you ran iTunes 10.5.3 before this). Just move the last version from the Previous Libraries folder (it will probably have a date in it's name), put it in the same place as the original file and rename it to be iTunes Library.itl. These files are located in /Users/username/Music/iTunes/ (for Mac OS), or \Users\username\My Music\iTunes\ (for Windows 7).

  • BB for Mac freezing when trying to sync itunes to Pearl 8230

    Hi all-
Have searched the forum to no success.  Just downloaded BB for Mac and so far so good, except for one issue.  The DM will freeze/crash when trying to sync one song or a whole playlist to my BB pearl.  I can select any playlist I want, (I've made some with various file types and sizes to see if it was a file format or size error), and still had no success.  I've ensured my media card support is on, mass storage mode is on, unencrypted,  and auto enable mass storage mode when connected is on, room on the media card, and recognized by my device.  The DM recognizes my media card, and correctly identifies the amount of free space on it, allows me to select my playlist(s) and when I click 'sync', the drop down window indicates  "the following items are being synchronized" and "music", but the progress bar and the sync circle don't move.  I've left it in this state for 4 hours to return to find out nothing has changed.  I have to force quit the DM at that point.
My contacts and calendars sync fine, just no love when it comes to the music.
I have a BB pearl 8230 (4.6.1.284) on the Telus network, using an iMac running snow leopard 10.6.1, running iTunes 9.01(9)
Am I missing something?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Are you running the Mac in 64bit mode, if so that is a known issue. Work around appears to be switch Mac to 32 bit sync and then return to 64bit till next sync or BB RIM fix is out.
