Mac freezing still in Safari, Acquistion and mail?!
I have for some time been having 'what i thought' was issues with Safari freezing and being unable to even force quit. I thought i had it solved thanks to replies on here - but it's still happening sometimes. So I began to contemplate that perhaps Safari wasn't the issue - because it's happening with other programs.
First of all I am now using Firefox - as it seems much more stable whatever I do or visit on the web - under my current circumstances. (it has yet to crash on me?) Safari seems fine everywhere I go - unless I turn on the password access auto fill-in (using Keychain) and then some sites seem to cause the safari freeze (as above)? So my issue be Keychain I thought?
However, It has also happened only once or twice when I used apple mail to access my google email account (again I think these setting stored via keychain?) - if it automatically logs in when you open mail. This doesn't concern me too much though as I am still in the habit of getting my email via the website direct! However it may aide in the problem solving....
The final piece of the issue, is that I keep trying to open and use acquisition - and again it rarely gets beyond the point of logging into the networks (sometimes it will log into the networks but won't get beyond the start of searching for something) - before the freezing happens and again I need to hard reset? Now I am pretty sure that this program doesn't use Keychain, so...?
I realise there are many variables - but the issues all revolve around internet access and possibly keychain access - but is not soley confined to Safari?
Finally, I have my done all the normal repairs/checks etc - the OS, Safari, firefox and acquisition are all upto date versions. I do also have Allume 'Internet cleanup' - which blocks traffic/pop-ups etc but although this is fairly upto date 3.0.2 (not latest version 4) - I have also tried accessing acquisition with this program disabled - but still freezes. So in conclusion I have removed this as a possible issue? (plus firefox works through it fine all the time?!)
So, now I am head scratching and looking for suggestions as what might be causing this issue?
Thanks for reading my lengthy problem!
Hi,
I would probably completely uninstall Internet Cleanup (which is done via the Installer application) just to make sure none of the files it installs are somehow affecting the Mac. Sometimes disabled applications can still cause havoc.
Both Mail and Safari do indeed use the keychain for storing user/password information. Have you tried repairing the keychain from within Keychain Access? This can be done from the Keychain menu -> Keychain First Aid.
One quick test you can do to help narrow down things is to try these applications in another user account. This will help us to know whether your problem is local to your account or system wide. If you don't have another account you can use System Preferences -> Accounts -> [+] to create a test one (and [-] to remove it if needed)

I had somebody work on my OS 10.9.2 to speed it up. He failed and now Preview, Textedit, App Store, Mail (crashes) and Contacts do not work anymore. I can still use Safari, Firefox, Word, Photoshop and iPhoto etc. How do I get the Apple programs fixed again?
Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo). -
Safari Browser and Mail App cannot be opened.
After I turn off my iPod Touch and start up again, Safari browser and my Mail App crashes every time I open it. I tried to reboot the device again, and it did not work. I'm going to have to restore, but my question is:
What are the reasons for this? This has never happen to me before.
Replies appreciated.Almost all the times things like that just happens and they seldom return. If i keeps recurring after restoring to factory defaults/new iPod then you likely have a hardware problem.

Mac OS X 10.4.4 and Mail bundles
I just upgraded to Mac OS X 10.4.4 and found when trying to open preferences in Mail, that it would either not do anything or crash. I looked around and found nothing at the moment about this problem. So I checked to see if it was the bundles problem. I removed all my bundled plugins and it worked. So I put back the bundled plugins and in Terminal typed this
defaults write com.apple.mail EnableBundles 1
defaults write com.apple.mail BundleCompatibilityVersion 3
(In 10.4.3 to enable plugins you typed 2 but it seems to have changed in the update) and now the preferences are working fine with the bundled plugins.actually PM should work for you....why do you say it won't? Also Missing sync is available, but it costs $.

I upgraded to mavericks and it seems to be running ok. However, my keynote, pages, numbers and mail still look the same. The update section on the APP store tells me they have been intalled but that is not the case. Has anyone experienced the same issue?
You have to download them from the app store. They should come up under the update option if you already have the iwork apps. They are available for free (thanx apple) if you go to the store after installing Mavericks and select them.
Now don't be thrown off because the link (icon) in the dock is the same. There is a updated icon for each app. I got thrown off because I had purchased ilife before the app store and back then, all would go into a folder (iWork '09). I could launch the old apps from the 09 set even after I installed the new ones from the app store. Some of us find this a godsend as the options on the new apps are lacking some power options.
Download the new apps and just pull the old icons off of the dock and watch them going up in a puff of smoke! -
Safari Crashes and Mail will not allow replies
Hello,
Everything has worked fine until last week... our editor's computer runs Mail for his email and Safari is his browser. He is currently unable to respond to emails. When clicking respond it just fails to respond. If you click new the program crashes. In Safari if there is a form that needs to be filled and submitted the program collapses as soon as you attempt to fill in a form field.
In the report from Safari (version 3.2.1) the exception is EXCBADACCESS and the code is KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE
I have repaired permissions and checked to make sure javascript is enabled. All software updates are current. His mail settings are as they should be. His web browser preferences are unchanged.
Maybe a month ago I installed google desktop on his computer but everything has worked well since then.
Can anyone give me some ideas of things to look at or try?
Thank youOK, I read the post from ratz and I found the safari plist and deleted it and then did work... I also deleted the plist thingy I found for Mail and that didn't work either. Below is the error report when Safari crashed. Thanks for your patience with me.

I try to send a link in safari and it can't send. It says unable to locate mail application. I have re-installed the new mail program, and it still won't send a link or contents of the page. Any possible solutions?
These are Mac OS X 10.5—rather than OS X 10.4—technologies, and an equivalent forum for them can be found here.

Safari Pages and Mail cannot be seen after awaking from sleep
If I leave Safari or Mail open, all of a sudden now when I come back and wake the computer from sleep, the programs are open, but the pages or mailboxes cannot be seen. New pages do not open. All that is seen is the menu bar, which seems to operate normally, but no inboxes or pages appear. I have to shut the computer down to get it to work again.
Any thoughts?More info:
It seems to be the screen going to sleep, not the computer. When I come back and touch the mouse or the keyboard, as the screen lights up, there is a flash of the web pages I left up, then they vanish.
Yikes!!! -
IPhone 3G screen goes black in Safari, SMS and Mail (sensor not covered!)
This my second 3G iPhone. I took the last one in for the same issue.
I did not use the back-up in iTunes in case there was a corrupt preference issue.
I did upgrade/reinstall and there are still issues.
The screen goes black as if I have locked the phone with the on/off button.
To get back into the phone I have to hit the on/off button twice, slide the slider and continue where I left off.
This is not because I haven't touched the phone for a time. This is right in the middle of typing in SMS, email, password on a website. It seems to happen when i am interacting with a site using the keyboard but i might be wrong.
I am going to update to the firmware that came out today.I am having the same problem and have since I did the software update. I have the old iPhone is the only difference. It just goes black right in the middle of a text or surfing the web, even changing settings. I have also had a problem when done with a call and i go to hit end call but the screen never comes back to give me that option. I have had a few instances lately where someone calls and i slide the slider to pick it up and it just goes black but still vibrates and rings....its very very annoying.
Anyone know what is going on? -
I want to store all my media on my Time Capsule.

Ok, because I have a small SSD and space is getting wasted by 4 patrons on my disk, does somebody know how to consolidate the meat of the OSs onto one patron (prob. NTFS since all can read/write).
Thats great I did install Wubi in the end and didnt realise I had the option of choosing which OS to boot into. This is exactly what I wanted to achieve. Thanks
I have run into another problem though since installing. I have a 2009 Apple MBP and installed 11.04 Natty but the wireless doesnt work.
Am I right in saying that on Natty and this version of the MBP wireless isnt supported.
Do I need to run Lucid to ensure better compatibility and do I run through these checks if I run into problems with Lucid?
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookPro5-4/Lucid
I would prefer to run the latest Ubuntu Distro so please if someone could advise that would be great.
Thanks -
I have reinstalled both updates as advised above but mail v4.6 still does not work and mail v4.5 continues to have the same error message?
Maybe some help here.

Safari and Mail applications keep quiting
Hi
Wondered if anyone can help...
I have a 6 month old iMac 5,1.
Recently the safari application and mail application keep quitting without warning.
This isn't all the time but is becoming more frequent.
The system seems to be running slower some of the time as well.
I haven't added any major new software or peripherals but I have been downloading some movies lately... might this have something to do with it.
I have tech tool delux installed and have scanned (except surface scan as someone told me this doesn't need to be done..?) with all passing.
Any ideas?
Cheers
phil barnettI'm having the same issue on a 3 month old MBP/SR - with tiger. As soon as I upgraded to the public Safari 3, I started experiencing sudden quits in both Mail & Safari. I have repeatedly run the "repair permissions" and "verify disk", with no joy. When I got the little "tell apple" screen for safari quitting, it seemed as though the Flash plug-in was involved, although I'm having deciphering the string leading to the quit. I disabled all plug-ins and the problem went away for a day or two, but just resurfaced tonight. It's becoming more frequent (and more annoying). Our new imac is not doing this (yet). I can't seem to find any commonality to the program failures. If I save the string leading to the quit, could someone here actually translate it and give us an idea?
