Mac froze while using Safari...
Hi,
I was browsing the internet today on Safari (v.5.1.1) and my MacBook froze. Everything was unresponsive except for a useless mouse cursor. I've never experienced this issue under Snow Leopard. I checked Console and I found the following entries:

It seems that my Nvidia 330m GPU decided to restart creating the freeze, could this be an indicator for problems? I've ran the Apple Hardware (extended) test and it gave me a clean bill of health. What can I do about it?
Needless to say, I am ****** off at Apple for bringing such a poor quality OS as Lion. I can't deal with Lion's constant freezes, hanged shutdowns, and other issues.
Without a doubt it is a scam. If she downloaded any apps as a result of this or the "tech" took control of her computer in any way then it needs to be reformatted and wiped clean and then restored from a Time Machine backup from a time earlier than the beginning of the incident .
If she does not know how to wipe it clean or restore from Time Machine then get her to book an appointment immediately at her local Apple Store or AASP. DO NOT DELAY on this!

If that doesn't do it then something has gone seriously wrong but I doubt a Safari crash could have been the cause of that kind of problem. -
Cursor keeps disappearing while using Safari
While using Safari the cursor/arrow will randomly disappear. I have to move the cursor/arrow beyond the Safari page and click on the desktop somewhere to make it reappear. This was happening on my MBP 15" for the last few months, now it is happening on my Mac Pro. Any suggestions on how to fix this?? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Jany --
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to come across that way.
I was just trying to suggest turning them ALL off to see if that helped.
If things were way better, the user could put one back at a time, which
would find the culprit.
Sorry, all this Flash stuff and suspicions of evil doing somehow
caught up with me.
ANYway, It's cool that you're making progress.
If your cursor doesn't disappear in other apps, like word processing or email,
it' probably not your mouse, either -
Hello,
while using Safari (6.0.1) with OS 10.8.2 I have to wait for 2-3sec while scrolling at a website.
The website is fully loaded, I want to scroll, then the 'beach ball' comes and I have to wait 2-3 sec. Then I can scroll.
This happens on nearly every site, independently of the content of the site.
Any help?
Thanks
GerhardThanks Linc,
this ist great and works instantly.
I wasn't able to bring these two things together, because I had the problem that iCloud Tabs do not work at my macbook before, but they do on all of my mobile devices (mobile to mobile) But my Mac does not work in any direction.
Is there also a soulution existing for this? Of course I tried to switch in and off.
Bokkmarks works fine...
Thanks again
Gerhard
p.s. should I open a new thread for this? -
My Autofill does not work while using Safari. I have checked both my Safari settings and my Apple settings but don't know what else to do.
Hi Eustace....yes, I did reset Safari but it didn't help. I'm running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5...which might be the problem...my Safari is Version 6.1.1.

IMac freezing up while using Safari
My iMac freezes up sometimes while using Safari and even trying to force quit doesn't help because the computer is totally frozen up.
I have left my Activity Monitor open and when it froze again today I was able to see that the system memory seems to be the problem area.
I see the following under System Memory:
Free almost nothing (here's the problem)
Wired 1.09 Gb
Active 2 Gb
Inactive 3.9 Gb
Why is the ratio between Free and Inactive memory so high?
When the computer eventually unfreezes the Free memory returns to about 4 GB, seems where it should be.
Wondering what could be using the Free memory ?You have a lot of issues.

To remove the Codec-M spyware, first back up all data, then select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. For any extension with a name you don't recognize, select it and click Uninstall. If in doubt, delete all extensions.
If you use Firefox or Chrome, take the corresponding steps in those browsers. You might have to delete Chrome completely and reinstall it from a fresh download.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.codecm.uploader.plist
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. A folder may open with a file selected. Delete the selected file. Then do the same with this line:
~/Library/Application Support/Codec-M
Finally, this:
/Applications/Codec-M.app
This time you may be prompted for your administrator password.
Log out and log back in.
B.
Remove "MacKeeper" as follows.
"MacKeeper" is a scam with only one useful feature: it deletes itself.
Note: These instructions apply to the version of the product that I downloaded and tested in early 2012. I can't be sure that they apply to other versions.
If you have incompletely removed MacKeeper—for example, by dragging the application to the Trash and emptying—then you'll have to reinstall it and start over.
IMPORTANT: "MacKeeper" has what the developer calls an “encryption” feature. In my tests, I didn't try to verify what this feature really does. If you used it to “encrypt” any of your files, “decrypt” them before you uninstall, or (preferably) restore the files from backups made before they were “encrypted.” As the developer is not trustworthy, you should assume that the "decrypted" files are corrupt unless proven otherwise.
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A. The "MacKeeper" application is in the folder that opens. Quit it if it's running, then drag it to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your login password. Click the Uninstall MacKeeper button in the dialog that appears. All the functional components of the software will be deleted. Reboot.
☞ Quit MacKeeper before dragging it to the Trash.
☞ Don't empty the Trash. Let MacKeeper delete itself.
☞ Don't try to drag the MacKeeper Dock icon to the Trash.
C.
Remove "Rapport" by following the instructions on this page.
D.
Remove "Eltima Player," which is garbage.
Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
I never install system modifications myself, and (unless otherwise specified in this comment) I don't know how to uninstall them. You'll have to do your own research to find that information.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickMyMac” (a hypothetical example.) First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickmymac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickMyMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickMyMac.” If not, open “BrickMyMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button. The uninstaller might also be accessed by clicking the Customize button, if there is one.
Back up all data before making any changes.
You will generally have to restart the computer in order to complete an uninstallation. Until you do that, there may be no effect, or unpredictable effects.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase and install OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
WARNING: Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" such as "AppCleaner" and the like that purport to remove software.

If your ISP is not StarHub Cable Vision in Singapore, you need to change your network settings. Ask for instructions.

Some of your user files (not system files) have incorrect permissions or are locked. This procedure will unlock all your user files, reset their ownership, and remove their access-control lists. If you've set special values for those attributes, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Enter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (triple-click, copy, and paste):
{ sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select
▹ Restart
from the menu bar.

I am having sound issues with the website Pottermore while using Safari 6.1. I once muted the sound and now can't unmute it even though the icon tells me it's unmuted. I can hear samples of audio books in the store section. Any ideas? I have reset Safari. Website works fine on Firefox.

My new ipad mini wifi with retina, 16GB reboots itself with a blue screen while using Safari. Can the bug be fixed?
Hi, Venkche.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Here are a couple resources that have some helpful troubleshooting steps for this issue. These are labeled for the iPhone, but the steps will also apply for the iPad.
Resolution
If a single application is not responding or stops responding when it opens, you can force it to close.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged. Learn more about charging iPhone and iPod touch, or iPad.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more aboutrestoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on

Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

Wierd icon while using Safari...
Hi,
Just a few moments ago while browsing the apple discussions website, my cursor changed from an arrow to a spinwheel-like cursor only this time it looked like a BMW logo with a black triangle on top of it (pointing like 120 degress to the left). It happened while using Safari. It showed in the category selection that appears when one clicks the "New" link, and then the "Discussion" button while in Apple Communities.
Does anyone know what it means?
I found an image of it (photo credit: Raza Syed / flickr.com)

Thanks!Take a look at this outside thread

This is the "wait" cursor that Apple's JAVA implementation uses in certain situations. -
Phone froze while using Here drive
Today my phone froze while using the Here Drive. It worked perfectly on the journey to my destination, unfortuntately failed and the phone froze with the screen still on the Here Drive where it froze. I was unable to change the screen or click on anything. Screen stayed the same until I arrived home.
Upon arriving home after looking at the support for the phone, I tried the soft reset and no response. Phone is still dead.
The phone was on charge through out the journey. and charged up fully prior to the return journey.
Screen is now totally blank.
My phone has never frozen before and was updated to the new Here Drive yesterday.
Infact very proud of it.
Any advice would be appreciated.Viborg wrote:
This is not a battery issue because the phone is being charged while driving.
Only if you have chosen 2D raher than 3D, as output of CR-200 only 750mA which is not enough if number of background applications running!

My Mac froze while typing. Nothing could move so I turned the power switch off. Now it will not reboot. I get the chime but it stops at a white patterned screen
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair

My mac is crashing constantly while using firefox, doesn't happen while using Safari
just wanted to let you know - i've never had any trouble with firefox or my mac book pro (osx) before. i think something is wrong with firefox.
I have the same problem in Windows 8 with newest, fresh and clear installed Firefox build. It's also for pages like facebook and so on, many pages you visited before. It's a problem with the cache. If you delete them, all is working fine for a short while.
The problem is thats this will happen nearly every day again, so its realy annoying.
In my constellations, its an Samsung Ultrabook with SSD drive and Windows Standby is used so, could it be that the cache ore firefox could get damaged while using powersaving mode if you simple open/close the Ultrabook?
I used Firefox/Windows 8 on my desktop without any problems but i will build in my new ssd tomorrow, so we will see if i get also problems like that by using energysaving modes (its only a speculation, it could also be another Bug in Firefox). -
