Mac Geeks! Help Please!
So, its going to be hard for me to write this because the cursor keeps flipping from pages, clicking randomly on stuff, zooming in and out which it is making it difficult to write! Is this phantum cursor? And how do I fix this? I can't even get to my system preferences to see the SPECS for my mac
I got this macbook pro in August 2011... I have trackpad issues starting 2013 around Jan but it has gotten worst now! I cannot finish anything! Because my screen jumps around and stuff.
I finally can display the SPECS
Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5
Version 10.7.5 Lion
How do I fix this problem??? I don't even know where my battery is located to take it out and do that PRAM thingy?? Any help or suggestions!
Thanks you but I tried that ages ago....I constantly wipe it down but same issue when my hands are not even on my trackpad it is still erractic and jumpy. Like for example i'll watch a video my hands are not even near or touching the trackpad and I cannot even get through a minute of it because it zooms in and out, flip through pages, highlights everything etc. I just tried using a mouse and its WAY better though but it still does the same thing but mild now I guess this will do until I make a trip to the apple store!
Thanks!

Mac Geeks help please! coke spillage
Hi! Couple of hours ago while i was working on my macbook pro i spilled some coke over the trackpad and some over the keyboard. I immediately switched it off and started drying it. I read a post which stated that the mac is long gone when that happens and the only thing i could do is to open it and dismount stuff, also to dry it from the inside. So that's what i did and then it happened... While i was dismounting the battery cable off the logic board i accidently touched with my tool some small silver thingy on the board and you can say that it exploded.. The mac was switched off for at least 30min before i tried to open it. I will upload some photos and i beg for someone that is familiar with these kind of stuff to speak up and suggest what happened/how bad is the situation etc. My mac is just over 1 year and dont really wanna throw it..
P.S. I would assume that there have been loads of these posts and for that i apologise but its really important...
http://imgur.com/6882FfTYou're beyond liquid damage at this point if there was enough current to cause the spark and damage you show in all likelihood the logic board is now gone also.
Hopefully your homeowners insurance will help you out in any case use this as a learning experience (although an expensive one), one never have liquids of any kind but especially soda, near a computer. Soda is one of the worst liquids you can spill on just about anything from our stomachs to our electronic equipment (nobody would drink this stuff if they saw what it did to metal!). And two never open up an expensive piece of equipment if you are not 100% sure of what you are doing. And if you do open one up do not use a screwdriver or other metal device to pry apart components. There is a reason the tool used to do this is plastic.
Finally if you insist on drinking and computing get yourself one of these Moshi ClearGuard Keyboard Protector for Aluminum MacBook (or something similar) its a small investment that goes a along way to protect your expensive computer.

Brand new Mac user help please! How do you connect a 17" monitor to the MacBook? I have the monitor plugged into the Mac, but the F8 that I am used to with PC does not work. Please help. I am getting lots of spelling errors as the MacBook laptop screen is too small. Thank you so much! .

Normally, you just connect the monitor to the MacBook using a VGA adaptor that you can buy from an Apple Store. Now try System Preferences > Displays > Detect Displays. You should now be able to select a display mode for the monitor. If it still doesn't work, then I'd check that everything is properly connected. I've had problems with colours disappearing due to a faulty connection in the VGA adaptor.

Hello,
I am having trouble trying with publishing my iWeb site however I am taking to log in screen for the .mac account and cannot log into it. I am not sure if I have one created. I created one through iChat I believe but it is still giving me an invalid account name or password after submitting the website to be published. Can anyone help please? I am currently using a Macbook 2008 series with Leopard 10.5 OS... thank you, SaharaiChat and MobileMe are NOT the same thing. .Mac does not exist and has not now for several years - it is MobileMe instead, but unless you already have an account which is sounds as if you don't, then it is too late. You can't get one now.
If you want to publish your site, then you'll have to find a domain name registrar and register a domain name of choice and then purcahse hosting too and then you can publish by publishing to a local folder and then uploading using an ftp client such as Cyberduck.
Start by taking a look at http://www.godaddy.com or http://www.hostexcellence.com where you can register a domain name and purchase hosting.
MobileMe will no longer exist as of 30th June this year - it is going and iCloud has taken over, but will not host websites so everyone on this forum is having to search for alternative hosting.
Perhaps do a search of this forum for the relevant topics. -
PC to Mac mini, help please
Hi, I'm still new to Mac and even newer to things like networking.
I have a PC that has over 800 songs that I want to transfer into my Mac mini before my iPod Shuffle arrives through the mail.
The reason is the many problems that the Shuffle has when interacting with Windows PCs according to Apple Discussions. I want to move the PC out of the way and into the basement as soon as this is done
So my question is how do I transfer my songs without burning 800 songs to CDs? Can I hook up the two computers through the ethernet ports?
The PC has no firewire ports but has usb ports.
Do I need software to do the transfers also? If so is there any free software on the web to use?
Thanks to all who respond. Thanks for help but it still hasn't worked for me.
Jesse Jay when I try the smb://... I keep getting "The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "smb://..." could not be read or written (error code -36)" any clues what this means?
kd5bloc you stated "The second solution was much easier...Enable the networking from the Mac, and finding it via Windows". Maybe this will work if it will allow Mac to compy music files from PC, but once networking is enabled on the Mac how do you find it using Windows?
To anyone else who has or knows how to connect a Mac Panther to PC XP directly through ethernet for the purposes of transfering music files from the PC to the Mac please by all means leave instructions or links to articles on the web if you know any.
I have spent many hours reading articles and trying to get it to work but I just can't. Thanks to all who reply.

ATI 3870 Mac edition help please!!!
I can't get my ATI 3870 Mac & PC edition video card to install any OS previous to 10.5.4 because apple does not support them. Can someone please help me. So far I have figured out I need to take the ATI kexts and put them on the install DVD using Pacifist. I am not sure how to make an installer or anything. Thanks in advanced.
I agree that the Proadvantage card might be a Mac compatible but the photo is wrong. Other dealers have made that mistake.
There are actually two Mac Editions of the Radeon HD 3870 being sold at MacSales (OWC):

Newbie to Mac Needs Help Please - Very Frustrated
Hello. I'm new to Mac. I'm pretty well versed in Windows and pretty technically savvy so this is frustrating. I cannot get my MacBook with OS X 10.4.8 to print on my new HP 1020. Both are new. It never even occurred to me that the Mac wouldn't be able to talk to it and neither sales person asked about the other. Any work-arounds? Mac appears to recognize it...finds its name and all that...and any/all apps appear to "print" but nothing happens...no printing occurs. I know the printer works; works with my old Dell. Please help. Thank you.
It's my understanding that if you go to hp website and get the drivers for the HP1022 printer that will work. If it doesn't DO THE BELOW STEPS:
If you aren't already on OSX 10.4.8, upgrade now and then follow these steps:
For The MacBook:
1) Disconnect the HP 1020 if it is currently connected to the MacBook.
2 Download; http://www.narc.ca/1601-LJ1022_SeriesOSX.dmg (Old version)
2) Delete anything for the HP 1020 in Printer in "Printer Setup Utility"
3) If you have anything for the HP 1020 (or the 1022 from a failed installation) in "/Library/Reciepts" delete it.
4) Remove the 1020Series folder from "/Library/Printers/hp/laserjet" directory if it exists.
5) Reset the print system from the Printer Setup Utility
6) Reboot (the HP 1020 is still disconnected from the MacBook)
7) Run the installer package downloaded in step 2
8) Shut down the MacBook completely
9) While the MacBook is off, connect the HP 1020 and power the PRINTER on.
10) Power on the MacBook
11) Add new printer in "Printer Setup Utility", select HP LaserJet 1020, driver should come up, click ADD
Thanks TheMane for posting instructions t -
Apple has released Chinese Word list update 1.6 on May 6, 2013. It is a 105 kb update file. I have Chinese word list updte from 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, and 1.5 installed on my Mac. So I think I need it.
But many days passed, no Chinese Word list Update 1.6 is being installed automatically on my Mac 15 inches with retina display.
Where on earth can I get this chinesewordlistupdate.pkg file to manually update my Mac to 1,6?
And I really don't understand why Apple release this update in this kind of ashin many times and it is very anoying. I have contacted Apple support many times, but there is no clear response and they said there is no such kind of update.
Here is the link t prove that the update exist and has been released
http://www.gfi.com/lannetscan/macfullreport.htm
Help clarify and if possible, please point me to download this version 1.6 pkg file please

I think you are mistaken about needing it. Since you do not write in Chinese, it will not be of any more use to you than were the earlier Chinese word list updates you have posted about here in the past. Nor can I imagine that anyone in these forums will be able to help you get it, any more than they could the last time.

But I wish you good luck!
Apple now has a special discussion forum for Chinese. You might want to ask there:

VGA monitor and a 2010 Mac Mini - HELP PLEASE!
I just upgraded from the early 2009 model where all you needed was a VGA to mini DVI adapter. With this 2010 model, Im not sure if thats possible (for cheap anyway). I have a VGA monitor and all I want to do is hook it up to the new mac mini ...but how? I've heard that because VGA is analog and HDMI is digital that it cannot be done for under $100 ..is this so? why oh why couldnt apple have stuck with mini dvi. Please someone advise how to do this ..or am I forced to buy a new monitor with DVI/Mini DVI/HDMI connections
Forget the HDMI port. There's the Mini DisplayPort available, and all it takes is the right adapter:

Mac Mini Help Please!!! - Hard Drive and Time Machine
Hello everyone,
I return once more seeking your support if I may...
I went down to the Genius Bar today, as my Mac Mini was having the multi-colour circle not-responding icon showing an awful lot, and it was struggling to perform simple tasks.
I bought my mac mini 2 years ago (12-Mar-11), and I was told there was an I/O error; and i needed a new hard drive.
I am currently backing up my machine, onto a WD My Passport 500gb.
When a new hard drive is installed by Apple, can I restore my files with my 'My Passport' backup?
I do also store other items on 'My Passport'; does this make a difference when trying to restore my files to my new hard drive?
One more question if I may...
Has anyone here had a new hard drive installed by Apple before, and if so, has the hard drive 'stood the test of time'
Many thanks in advance for your help
JamesWhat utility are you using to backup your drive?
Apple buys hard drives from major manufacturers like Toshiba, Samsung, Seagate, and Western Digital. The drives will last as long as any drive you would purchase from them. Some last long and some don't.
Suffice to say the drives carry a specific warranty. That should give you an idea how long the manufacturer thinks it will last on average.
You can restore files from your backup pretty easily in Mountain Lion. If you are using Time Machine then you can actually boot from a Recovery HD image that it places on your backup drive. To boot from it you must connect the backup drive, then restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager appears. Select the icon for the Recovery HD and then click on arrow button beneath the icon. -

Message Edited by trate on 07-08-2007 05:59 PMConnect the Modem to the Internet Port on the Router.
Then , Connect the Computer using a different
Ethernet Cable to Port 1 or Port 2 on the Router.
Now, Press the Reset Button on the rear panel of the Router
for 12 Seconds. Then, Release the Reset Button,
Unplug the Power Adapter to the Router. After 10 Seconds,
Unplug the Power Adapter to the Modem. Then Wait for
30 Seconds, Re-connect the Modem, and once the Lights are
up on the Modem, Re-connect the Linksys Router.
If yes, Open a new Internet Explorer
Page, and in the address bar, type http://192.168.1.1, press
return, And when asked for Username and Password,
Leave the Username blank and in the Password field,
type admin . This will help you access the Router's
Console.
In the Router's Setup Page, just below Setup Tab,
in the blue line, you could an option " MAC Address Clone "
Click on that, Enable it, Save the Settings
Below the Setup Tab of the Router's Console,
Change the MTU from "AUTO" to "MANUAL" , and
Set the Size to 1400, Save the Settings,
Powercycle the Modem and the Router.
Check the Connections. -
On start up - loud pop, burning smell, dead Mac. Help, please!
This morning when my wife tried to fire up her heretofore reliable G5, there was what she described as first a popping sound followed by the smell of something burning. The smell went away quickly, but the computer now seems to be dead. My guess after looking through the forum is the power source. But having learned the hard way about making assumptions I'd like to run it by people (this forum) who know a lot more about my Mac than I do!
Does this sound like a power source issue, and if not what else can it be? Assuming the power source is the problem, how do I determine the correct replacement? I know the computer is a G5 2.0, but I'm not sure of production date, etc. that I might need to know to get the right replacement. Finally, where is the best place to get a replacement power source, hopefully without paying more than the value of the machine?
As always, thanks in advance for any help and advice you all can give me!OK, before we go any farther, is the flat-liner G5 liquid cooled?
Actually, specific model information would probably help. Remove the big side panel and look at the tiny label at the bottom of the side of the computer. That will have, among other things, the serial number and some information as to the configuration of the computer when shipped. Using the serial number, you can get more specific information on the unit at
http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html
(It also appears that the first three digits in the serial number conform to the year and week of production. (310 means tenth week of 2003, for instance).
Usually, a popping sound followed by a burning smell means a capacitor. Those who have experienced such over the years recognize the smell of cooked electrolyte, as opposed to the smell of roasted magnet-wire varnish that accompanies a transformer failure.
While the power supply is the most-likely culprit, it could be a cap on the logic board or a PCI or video card. The good news is that such failures are usually easy to spot by visual inspection. That being said, not all capacitors are visible, like, for instance, everything in the power supply assembly.
While it would probably be relatively easy for an experienced person to diagnose, it probably is not something for the inexperienced to tackle. -
I have an intel based mac laptop OS X v10.6.4 and use Firefox v3.6.8. and downloaded the most recent flash player. I am trying to read library epub books on my mac. I have unintalled and reinstalled ADE too many times and I did it according to adobe's recommended steps.
Here is the problem; I install the app but no set-up assistant runs. Furthermore, when I open the app, all there is is a black screen and nothing at all in the menu bar. No options, no nothing. I tried adobe chat and they couldn't help.
note: I own a kindle and am aware that epubs "can't" be read on it. I would consider purchasing a nook or a sony if I could confidently get ADE going.
****Thank you for reading this and any help and advise is greatly appreciated****
~JamieHi, This thread may be helpful or at least point you in the right direction to receive some help. I am totally unfamiliar with ADE or any of the Readers. I just search sometimes for answers for others:-)

Hope you find the solution.
