Mac got reset to default settings

Hello,
I came to INDIA today and fired up my laptop.
However all my settings are gone and it seems like my Macbook has been reset to default settings...
I mean Dock preferences, bookmarks in browsers and all the other settings that I have done to make my life easier in last 2-3 years are gone...
Any ideas?

How do i get to the firefox window so i can reset the default settings?

it is very slow online and when i went on today there was a message to reset to default settings. when i clicked that, it told me to go to the firefox window so i could reset. i don't know how to get to the firefox window. firefox immediately goes to my browser which is comcast. when i click on firefox above, it stays in comcast.

When you reset Firefox then a new profile is created and some personal data (bookmarks, history, cookies, passwords, form data) is automatically imported and the current profile folder will be moved to the desktop to an "Old Firefox Data" folder.
Installed extensions and other customizations (toolbars, prefs) that you have made are lost and need to be redone.
It is possible to recover more data from the old profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem

Is their a way to reset ALL default settings in PS CS6?

My 3D camera view is acting kooky when I go into 3D mode. It's like I'm underneath the text looking up at it, and no matter what settings I mess with I can not get the view that I want. Yes I have went to all the little drop down window and clicked on default view and I still get this same underneath view. It is really holding me up, I am intermidiate user so I' a little frustrated, can anyone help?Is their a way to reset ALL default settings in PS Cs6

There is Reset all tools and reset preferences. To reset you Photoshop Preferences as you start Photoshop hold down Ctrt|CMD+Alt|OPT+Shift you should get a prompt about you preferences. Somewhere in tools preset there are reset tool options.

How to reset to default settings for safari 4.1.3

Need a bit of help here... for some reason I'm not getting use of Safari 4.1.3, not able to open sites, the Open location function in pull down menu is greyed out and no bar for typing in sites I want to browse. I think I just may have to reset Safari to default settings, but not sure how... Opening up Preferences is no help.

I hate to say this but v10.4.11 with Safari 4.1.3 is really outdated. You may have problems loading websites for that reason alone and lack of security. Apple has not updated Safari for Tiger for years.
But try a reset.
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari
Select the following:
Clear history
Reset Top Sites
Remove all webpage preview images
Empty the cache
Clear the Downloads window
Remove all cookies
Remove all website icons
Click Reset
Quit and relaunch Safari. See if that made a difference.
I have an iBook G4 running v10.4 with Safari 4.1.3 and more often than not, websites won't load. Or I'll see the, "your browser is not supported', dialog.

Photoshop, I am in a class, I need to reset to default setings, to enable mini bridge to open within the program. I have followed the instructions and i reset to default settings. The program opened and no mini bridge tab appearred as instructed.

I can not get the program to reset the factory defaults, enough to open the mini bridge tab...... I have tried numerous times and it does not open and it is needed to be able to view two files in the application window and to be able to work on them and move layers as instructed....!!!!!!!!!!!

Photoshop cc2014, windows 7, instructions to open mini bridge tab are; open photoshop program, as it opens press cntrl, alt and shift to open prompt for default settings. When prompt opens, press yes and then the program continues to open and the tab for the mini bridge should open at the bottom left corner of the application page. I have done this numerous times and no tab appears, I even uninstalled photoshop and re installed and it still did not work. ( not sure what platform you mean, I am a novice, to say the least.

I tried uninstall and installing the program. I am taking a class and I need to open the "mini bridge" within the program. The instructions were to open the program and as it was opening, press cntrl, alt and shift to access the default settings. The Mini Bridge panel is no longer available in the most current major version (15.x) of Ps CC aka 2014. You can install the previous major version, Ps CC (14.2.1) by using the Creative Cloud desktop application.

Can someone tell me where to go to reset all default settings?

Hello. When printing pictures from the program the colors are coming out terribly wrong. It is NOT the printer as I can print just fine from other programs. Do I need to restore the default settings?

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

I think gnome-shell also uses something called dconf. The only folder I see though is "~/.config/dconf"
Maybe instead of deleting just move the file somewhere else just in case.

Why were my preferences reset to default settings? Why are all my bookmarks were erased, and now it says that Hulu is not working? WTF?

I started firefox this morning just like normal, I didn't change ANYTHING on firefox or on my computer. Now all my bookmarks were randomly erased, and now Hulu is not working. This is the error message from hulu:
"It appears that software on your computer is blocking JavaScript. To enjoy Hulu.com, you'll need to enable JavaScript in your web browser. Please configure your security software or browser plugins to allow Hulu.com to load JavaScript. "

I tried looking for bookmarks backups and there are none on my computer, so I am now forced to go through and remake all my bookmarks.
This makes absolutely no sense and I don't understand why no one has a decent answer. I better not see a god damn moderator get on here and tell me "this is not typical behavior". What a load of crap! I've seen other questions on here about the same damn thing that are still unresolved.

Okay, take a deep breath. Everyone is responding to your problem of losing your settings. Firefox settings folders are called profiles. If you can switch Firefox from whatever pretty much empty profile folder it is using now back to your previous profile, this should resolve your issue. Hopefully with that context in mind, the earlier replies will make more sense.
Also, Java is a plugin used to play certain applets and JavaScript is a technology built into Firefox. For now, you can ignore Java and focus on JavaScript.
JavaScript is enabled by default. To switch the setting, you can use the about:config preferences editor. Here's how:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''java''' and pause while the list is filtered
(3) If '''javascript.enabled''' is user set to false, double-click it to switch it back to the default value of true.

CS3 - The preferences file is corrupt and will be reset to default settings

Honestly, I've been using this program for years now and I'm still amazed at how jack-screwed it continues to be.
Why is my "preferences file" corrupt all of a sudden, and why pray tell, do I get this message every time I relaunch the program? How can this be corrected?
And while I'm frustrated and ranting....why does Illustrator constantly give me a "this program is not responding" error almost everytime I close it down for the last 10 years (literally) no matter what version I've used and no matter whether my PC is new with a new install of AI or on any other configured PC?
And why does Illustrator take 5 minutes to close when CorelDraw closes in 5 seconds without an error?
Ok... I'm beginning to ramble, AI does that to me. How about we tackle the error message on the thread title? Your help is much appreciated.

If resetting the preferences does not work then trashing the Settings folder and the plist file should.
You first quit Illustrator then;
Users/Username/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator CS3 Settings (you trash this folder) and then navigate a little further down in the list of preferences to com.adobe.illustrator.plist and trash that as well.
As far as why this has been happening for the last ten years would suggest one of three things to me, one; you have some corrupt files that are still in use or have been revised over the ten years and you still use them from time to time. They work fine but course you problems and now the systems have been updated to the point that the problems they cause are dramatic, two; you are using fonts that are old and while are not really corrupt in that they are serving their purpose they are causing the font cache or preferences to be corrupt and finally three you may have plug ins that have had problems that may never have been fully resolved and again they work fine except that they cause this problem(s).
That is what it suggest to me. And of course the fact that Illustrator is extremely sensitive to system problems with bussing and font corruption more so then most programs.

Reset ALL Default Settings - Specifically Delete to Recycle Bin

Good Day. When deleting music from my library I also want to delete it to the recycle bin but unfortunately I checked the box to not show & not move to recycle bin when deleting from library.

you can reset all your preferences to their defaults by rebuilding both sets of preferences files on the PC.
for instructions on Vista, see the "Remove iTunes Preference files" section from this document:

(in your situation, try moving both sets of preference files out of their default locations before relaunching itunes.)

My I Mac has reset to factory settings!!!

Can anyone explain what went wrong with my imac.
For no obvious reason it asked me to enter the password it could have been when I downloaded the latest security patch. It wiped the desktop clean of all the folders and documents. It cleared i tunes library from some 100 CD's, it cleared the photos from iphotos and kept treating me as if I logging on to my mac for the first time. just like I had taken it out of the box. Thankfully it didn't wipe my documents from the hard drive.
Can anyone explain why this could have happend?

I think you just might have hosed yourself up big time. You might try to download a demo copy of Data Rescue and see what it is able to find on you disk. If you have been using your system since deleted the your Home folder, there is a very good chance that the disk space has been overwritten already. Once that happens, there is no way to retrieve the data.
Bad plan to call it Home. Something like Domestic would have been much better. The names that the system choice should be left to the system and you should try to come up with your own names just to prevent this from happening.

10.5.8 Finder resets to default, desktop files gone!

The Finder on my 2008 Mac pro is really acting up at the moment an I have no idea what's going on.
My desktop has been wiped clean. Nothing there, except the drive icons. I don't keep much on the desktop but there should be a few folders and files that I always keep there for convenience. Also, Finder has reset to default settings - lost my custom Places from the sidebar and opens in icon view, which I never use.
I looked at the actual folder in Finder as well and the files are definitely not there.
What I have been doing:
I ran iDefrag on my files disk (INT HD 1TB) a few days ago (first time). I forgot to turn off Time Machine so they have probably been running at the same time.
Today Time Machine decided to backup everything from scratch, which I attribute to iDefrag switching everything around on my Files disk. Also filled the backup disk so I only have two backups at the moment, both from today.
Other than that, I have mostly been using Adobe Bridge, Photoshop and InDesign CS4 for editing quite big files. Also Firefox for normal web browsing.
Hard drives are reported to be ok. Profile is still the same name. The files are not in the Trash. Everything else is where it should be. System disk is 1/3 full. Files HD (which hasn't been affected AFAICS) 1 TB 1/2 full.
Does anyone know what could be happening to my machine?

I had the same problem and finally discovered that somehow my Desktop folder had become a Package. I could not do anything on the desktop but the apps and the dock etc. were working fine. I went to Go/Home Folder/Desktop/Show Package Contents and everything was there. But nothing appeared on the desktop. I could not open a new folder and anything I tried to drag to the desktop resulted in a permissions error. I tried all of the above fixes and more. The solution? Trash the desktop folder from your Home folder, empty the trash, reboot and start all over again. If you're lucky like I was you will have a Time Machine backup and you can restore a previous Desktop easily. Worked for me!

Firefox Crashing/Freezing Constantly and Resetting to Defaults

For the past few weeks, I have been having a lot of issues with Firefox crashing. Every time I try to open up a new tab or load a web page it will freeze. Sometimes this is only for a few minutes, while other times this lasts up to an hour and I have no choice but to close the program out using the task manager, as any attempts to close it normally fail. This is most prevalent within the first few minutes after I launch Firefox, and the program has been slow in this regard for quite a while, though usable after waiting a few minutes for it to fully load. As I stated though, for the past few weeks it has been completely locking up and crashing when this happens, and it continues to happen after I have already loaded web pages and try to open new ones.
I tried a complete fresh install, and the problem was fixed for a few days, however, after going for a couple of days without internet access and trying to get online again, the problem returned even worse than before. More than that, now from time to time my Firefox completely resets to default settings, clearing out my "New Tab" page's pinned tabs, as well as removing whichever theme I had applied.
This glitch has rapidly made Firefox unusable for me, which makes me very upset as I far prefer it to Google Chrome. While I don't know that it would help discern the issue, below is also a list of all the extensions I have installed as well as the plugins I have that are always active, (with all my other plugins either being disabled or "ask to activate"). With the exception of "Adblock Edge", I have had all the extensions installed for several months with no issues. "Adblock Edge" itself I only installed after uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox to try and fix my issue. My current Firefox version is 35.

PS CS5 Can not pan nor scrubby nor reset to default

I have a 64x HP duo core with the latest updates of my NVIDEA GeForce 6150 LE video driver and with PS stating "Your applications are up-to-date". I have three problems that I believe are all interelated.
1. I can not pan my drawing. Nor do I have side bars showing that I can ban.
2. I can not use scrubby. It is "greyed out".
3. Nor will PS reset to default settings using "shift-ctrl-alt" when retarting PS.
One note, I do not think I had problems (1) prior to updating PS with it latest revision.

I'll go out on a limb and guess that Photoshop CS5 is not enabling OpenGL drawing. Check Edit - Preferences - Performance to be sure.
Video driver updates can sometimes correct this, but your nVidia card is simply ancient, so I don't suspect you're going to ever get the OpenGL-based features to work with it. It rates under 50 on a benchmark for which at least 500 is a score you want to see for decent Photoshop performance.
I was just down at CompUSA yesterday, and I saw bunches of video cards that would work great with Photoshop, some of which were under $60.
