Mac having issue opening certain files on a day to day basis

My Mac seems to have problems opening files on a day to day basis. One day it will not open JPEG files saying Mac does not support file format and then the next day it will open JPEG files but then have an issue opening PDF files or MS Word files. Sometimes I am able to reboot and the issue is resovled other times even with a reboot I still run into an issue with opening a certain file format. I Verified Permissons with a few errors that got repaied but I'm still having this issue.

I understand what you want.. but it is the wrong way to do it.
You will get into a mess with using TM this way. It is designed for backup of individual machines.. you are trying to use it for a file server.
They do not want to create a central server where they manually have to go and save and fetch new files, they want it to be automatic.
The ironic thing is you are trying to use Time Machine as a central server.. only it is not.
A central server is exactly the right way to do it. But it can be done automatically.. you just use some synchonisation software. (Central server means you all work on the same files and you have centralised backup)

Using some cloud method would be the other suggestion.. but I am not sure exactly how to do it. I have lousy internet so cloud is really too hard to use for storage.. but Apple do lots of stuff to help people with cloud to synchronize fies.

Why can't Mac OS X open certain files?

I am running Mac OS 10.4.7
I just downloaded windows media player 9 for Mac OS X...it is on my desktop labeled as 'Windows Media.sitx'
When I go to click on it to install, it says 'Their is no default application specified to open the document Windows Media.sitx'
So I have to click Cancel or Choose Application. If I click Chose Application it just opens my Macintosh HD. I am a new user of Mac and have never run across a .sitx exension.

A downloaded file with a .sitx extension was compressed with Stuffit and you need a utility called Stuffit Expander to open these files which is no longer pre-installed on new Macs by Apple.

Having issues opening raw files from Canon 5D Mark iii in Photoshop CS5

I cannot open RAW files from a Canon 5D Mark III in Photoshop CS5. I get an error saying "
Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw.
Please visit the Camera Raw help documentation for additional information."
Documentation seems to be no help.
Any ideas?

Having issues opening html files in dreamweaver for mac

Every time I try to open an html file in dreamweaver, the file starts to open and then crashes. I cannot get them to work. HELP!

Can you please share your crash logs. Either you can copy it from the crash reporter dialog which comes up when application crash. You need to click on show details and then copy the logs which shows up. Or you can share the latest crash log created at /Users/LIbarary/Logs/DiagnosticsReports/.

Having issues opening eps files in Photoshop CC 2014

This is the Error that pops up:
Could not complete your request because Photoshop was unable to parse the PostScript.
I have a mac

Save it in Illustrator as AI file or as PDF/X-4.
You can place it in Photoshop as Smart Object or linked Smart Object or Open it, which would rasterize content.
Illustrator has also a PSD export which allows you to export AI files to PSD, under specific circumstances they are even editable.
Don't use EPS anymore, as it is an old outdated file type which does not support transparency and not color management.

I am having issues opening PDF files in safari, I am running OSX 10.5.6

When I attempt to open any PDf files it will either go to choose viewer to open this type file? (None available in selections?) Or just goes to a black screen where you can only cancel to get out of it.
I was told that OSX automatically opens PDFs in Safari etc. If I right click the file / link and save linked files to download then I can open them. Is there anyway to have safari open them with the proper app automatically?

OK, now we're on the same page. I didn't realize it but I can't open pdfs either. I'm on a brand, new iMac and pdfs don't work for me anymore. It also doesn't work in Firefox. I'll need to do some checking for both of us.
What does work is when the cog wheel stops rotating you can save the pdf via the File->Save As menu in Safari.

My Mac won't open certain files anymore so I can't install new programs.

I accidentally reset the default application used to open new programs that I try to install and now it won't open. It's set accidentally to use ScriptEditor. I'm not sure what "program" was used originally to open them, so I don't know what to reset it to. How do I fix it so I can install new programs again?

I think more likely, it's a memory / scratch disk issue. 1.25 gigabytes is a very big image file!!

Is there any timeline soon that apple users will be able to open things that need adobe flash player? I can not even play any games on Facebook, I can't open certain files, pictures sent to me or things like forms I news to see when I am not home

I am so frustrated about Adobe Flash player. I can not play any Facebook games, open certain files and pictures and documents that I need to access because not only does this phone not do it but my old Palm Pre couldn't do it either. I have had so many times where I needed to access things either online or via email, or message that I can not even look at because of this. I have to wait until I for home or ask someone else to do it for me which is embarrassing. I rave about my iPhone 4S all the time because it is truly great except for this. When it use to happen with my Pal Pre I figures once I got my iPhone that it wouldn't happen anymore but I guess I was completely wrong. I have had this problem for years and always get a message saying that it's being worked on. Well a couple of years is a long time to work on it. I understand about contracts and stuff but why is it taking a company such as Apple to be able to get it for their products? I get a lot and always want to play the games on Facebook but I can't do it on most of them at least the ones I have tried. So I can not play against anyone at that time I have to wait until I get home or use someone else's computer or something. Please tell me that in the extremely near future that this will not be a problem anymore. PLEASE!! I am sure I am not the only one out there who is having issues and if you do get it available please let there be an upload/upgrade for current phones and not just for future versions of Apple phones. That just wouldnt be very fair to all of your loyal customers and tell everyone to get your products because they are great and end up leaving this little problem out until they by your phone. Especially if they just got the phone they have. You guys are awesome with technology I have faith that you can make this available to all Apple products old and new by uploads or upgrades. Thank you hopefully can give me some info about the status with this or if there wen is one. I would have thought that being a company such as you are that it would already be taking care of right from the beginning and not wait years to take care of somewhat that is very important ro have especially when there is so much our there using Adobe Flash now. Indesign CS 5.5 Crashes When opening certain file

We have a user who is having issues opening a certain indesign document. If they open the document it will appear to load but after a few seconds it will stop working. 'Adobe CS5.5 has stopped working'
They are using Windows 7 x64. I recently applied the 7.5.3.333 update which did not solve the problem. I asked if they have any additional extensions but they didn't think they did.

Captivate 8 - Issue opening PowerPoint files

I am having an issue opening PowerPoint files with Captivate 8. I am running Captivate on the latest version of OSX on a Mac. And I keep getting a very specific message that states the PPT file is corrupted or outdated. Here is an image with the exact wording:
The problem is all my PowerPoint files receive this message when attempting to upload them into Captivate 8, and some of PPT files were saved using PowerPoint 2013. Both of which, lead me to believe that this is not a damaged PPT or an outdated PPT issue. Can anyone help with this one?

Is the issue specific to a particular powerpoint file and other powerpoint files are getting imported properly ?

"application cannot be found" when trying to open certain files

Recently i upgraded my computer to Mavericks recently and I've been having a problem opening certain files. In one day I upgraded to Mavericks and I also updated my Adobe programs to the Creative Cloud. Ever since then I cannot open any of my Adobe files. They are all saved as under the CS4 legacy format. I uninstalled CS4 after installing the Creative Cloud. Every time I try to open one of these files previously created in CS4, whether it is a photoshop ot illustrator file, I get the error message "The application cannot be found". I also can see no preview or thumbnails for the files. I talked to Adobe Support and we went through a process of deleting my preferences and it didn't work. I restarted my machine and it worked. It worked for a day and now after starting up my machine today it is saying the same thing again. After a while it just out of nowhere started working again. I'll be clear and say that I was logged into my adobe account and there were no network interuptions.
By the way, the new versions (Creative Cloud) of the adobe programs all work just fine and If I save something then it works fine. It is only when trying to read a file from a previous format.

If you are attempting to start Adobe Creative Cloud by opening a file created by its previous version, open the Adobe Creative Cloud app first, then choose Open from its File menu and select the old file. The files you are attempting to open were associated with the version you used to create them, which is now gone.
After opening them, save them again. From then on, opening them will probably open Adobe CC directly.

Having Trouble Opening TIFF Files

I'm having trouble opening TIFF files into Camera Raw. I have checked all my settings in Adobe Bridge and everything seems to be saying that TIFF files should open in Camera Raw when I click on then int and then into photoshop when finished editing in camera raw.
I'm trying to open 32 bit HDR images saved as a TIFF file into Camera Raw, and there seems to be nothing I can do to get them there. I have tried everything I can think of. When I right click on it (cmd click I'm on a mac) the option to open in camera Raw isn't there. I have tried clicking and dragging the image into Photoshop to try and force it maybe to open into Camera Raw, and I have opened photoshop and tried opeing it up from mini Bridge. In mini bridge I have the option to open the image into Camera Raw when I click this nothing happens.
I'm not sure what else to try I'm on CS6 and Camera Raw 7.0 .

It might be that you need to update camera raw to version 8.3 by going to Help>Updates from within photoshop or bridge.
(i don't remember exactly in which version of acr that was added, but probably after version 7.0)

Issue opening .cp files in Captivate 5

Good evening,
I am having issues opening some of our .cp files in Captivate 5. We are currently in the process of converting .cp -> .cptx -> HTML5. I handful of project files, when trying to open, this is what I get:
Just to clarify;
The file is not open already
I have more than enough hard drive space
CPU usage, as well as RAM usage is less than 25%
They are reading as .cp files, and this isn't the only file that is doing this
Any help would be greatly appreciated regarding what might be going on.

I found a workaround. If I open in Captivate 3, overwrite the file, then resave, it seems to open fine in Captivate 5. Ultimately, I wish there weren't so many hoops to jump through just to get these bad boys converted to HTML5. The process now is;
Open .cp in Captivate 3
Save in Captivate 3
Open .cp in Captivate 5
Save as .cptx
Open .cptx in Captivate 7
Publish to HTML5
Save in Captivate 7
Is there an easier way to this process?
