.mac Hosting and Personal domain

Any help?
I bought a domain name from a registar in Greece and signed up for Google Apps.
The @mydomain.co.gr woks with google mail and I want to keep it like this.
Do I have to buy additional hosting services to be able to publish my site at .mac using www.mydomain.co.gr.
Will my site be at web.mac.com or it must be hosted somewhere else an redirected to .mac?

Chuck, you wrote that "all you should have to do is point the domain name to the .mac address." Can you please explain how? I have been on phone support and email contact with Apple and NOBODY knows how to do this! I kid you not. There are articles on How To but it doesn't work for me. My website does not publish to my personal domain name on iWeb and .mac, despite following the procedural instructions from Apple.
At this point, my website is "published" to mac.com/myusername, but NOT to my personal domain name.
Thanks for any suggestions you can give.

  • .mac and personal domain question

I'm sure this has been addressed several times, although, I can't find the answer in a quick search...
I set-up a personal domain on my account. I have several websites going in iWeb, however. Can I still host my personal domain on .mac, but still publish my other sites to my .mac url? How do I switch back-n-forth between my .mac url and my personal domain without messing things up?!
Thanks so much for the help!

How do I switch iWeb to publish to my .mac rather than my personal domain? Is that possible?
iWeb always publishes to .Mac, nowhere else, regardless of what it says somewhere in the app. You can always reach all your sites via the url http://web.mac.com/username/sitename.

  • Mac and personal domain names

How to set up your iWeb and personal domain names, How do you get your iWeb DNS. tHANKS

Mac/iWeb and domainnames have nothing to do with each other.
Your domainname is related to your webserver. With or without iWeb.
And there is no such thing as an iWeb DNS.
Check where you have your webhosting and domainname registered.
And in case the message did not get across, MobileMe ends at the end of this month. And so does Personal Domain, which is a MMe feature.

  • Subscribe button and personal domain name

    Hi,
Is the subscribe button on my podcast page still supposed to work if I publish to .mac using my personal domain name? It doesn't seem to work for my pages. Here are two pages where the subscribe button is invalid:
    http://web.mac.com/SHIRTLESS/POETRY/POETRY_PODCASTS/Archive.html
    http://web.mac.com/SHIRTLESS/POETRY/POETRYPODCASTS/POETRYPODCASTS.html
If anyone can solve this problem, many thanks.
    regards,
    shirtless

Yes, because you are publishing to .Mac and just forwarding to a personal domain. Some things don't work when you use ftp to publish directly.
Have you made sure that all the correct boxes are checked inside the Inspector in iWeb that are relevant to the podcast page?

  • .Mac account and own domain

    Hi,
I own a .Mac account where I have published my personal web site created in iWeb. Now, I'm creating a web site for an alumni club also in iWeb. The club has its own domain.
Can I publish the web site for the club in its domain and still keeping my .Mac account and personal web site as it is? Two different domains, two sites and one computer!
    Thanks

The easiest way to do this is to build your new site on a separate domain file, publish it to a folder and upload it to the server using FTP.
Multiple websites on multiple domain files can be achieved by having them in separate folders or using a third party software like iWebsites.
    See ..
    http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebMultiplewebsites.html
Note that this page recommends the standard method for splitting domain files or the use of a third party application.
As you are starting fresh I would recommend you start each new site from a copy of a blank domain file and save it in a separate folder. Splitting domain files should be avoided if possible as it can lead to file corruption in some cases and may cause problems in the future.

  • Hosting .Mac and Personal Domain Separately - Help!

    Hi,
I have three websites I have made using iWeb, and one personal domain. I would like to host two of the sites only on .Mac, and host the third site on the personal domain. I set up the CNAME and it works but I do not want two of the sites to be linked to the personal domain.
Is there a way to do this?
Should I copy iWeb and use the copy for one or the other?
Can I separate the website files or something?
    Thanks in advance!

When I go to mysite.com, the iWeb page I want shows up, and I can go through the pages of the site. But if I type in mysite.com/site2.html or mysite.com/site3.html my other sites come up. I don't want those two sites to be accessible from mysite.com.
    Thanks for the clarification.
Of course one has to know the names of your other sites in order to access them.
Some ways to divorce them more totally might to
    +password protect them
+purchase another .Mac account (or use a family account) for them
+manually move them to iDisk/Sites. Then they would have the url homepage.mac.com/username/sitename (not sure all features would work).
PS A further option might be to use ordinary forwarding plus masking instead of CNAME. When you do that, your personal url is sent to your longer .Mac url, web.mac.com/username/sitename. I don't know what happens when you try to type in a different sitename after the personal name.

  • Blog comments disabled (against my will) and personal domain is not working

Comments on my blog no longer work and if folks use my personal domain, they get a "this page is under construction" message (MobileMe is configured to host your domain is down it appears).
There is another problem: at the end of published pages I see this:
    # Exception: TypeError
    # Message : Value undefined (result of expression postLinks.forEach) is not object.
    # File : Comments.js, Line:138
    Anyone else?

Thanks, Wyodor. I got the domain issue figured out. Looks like my NSI web-forwarding feature expired... but I thought the Mac hosting would replace that. So I turned it back on in the meantime and will check into that issue later.
Meanwhile, comments for my blog are still locked and I am still getting that error at the bottom of the page.
    On safari it says):
    # Exception: TypeError
    # Message : Value undefined (result of expression postLinks.forEach) is not object.
    # File : Comments.js, Line:138
    And on Firefox it says:
    # Exception: TypeError
    # Message : postLinks.forEach is not a function

  • .Mac site to personal domain

    Hi all,
does any of you know how is it possible that a .Mac site is transferred to a personal domain? It's not redirected: both sites are identical.
    See here
    h**p://web.mac.com/uomoragno/blog/spider-mac/spider-mac.html
    And here
    h**p://www.spider-mac.com/blog/spider-mac/spider-mac.html
    Thanks.
    --Antonio

You don't have to transfer anything.
With a Personal Domain your pages are stil on MMe. You have to add a CNAME at your registrar.
Go to your MME account and click Personal domain.
    https://secure.me.com/account/
Then click +Find a Help topic+. Then click Account.
If on the other hand you mean to host your webpages at some provider, then you have to publish to a folder and upload the folder to that host.

  • Blog and personal domain/store, SEO & other issues

I'm using the blog format to provide helpful tips, dynamic content and general marketing for our online store. The .Mac points to a subdomain, not directly to the site and the content can be viewed through the store pages in a frame (GoLive). I've submitted sitemaps to google for both the store site and blog subdomain and many questions, lots of uncertainity and variable scenarios on this and .Mac versus maybe better SEO friendly options like Wordpress and .Mac's general sluggishness. I like the ease of updating with .Mac and the main reason I have taken the .Mac to personal domain approach was the Search capability.
    1) Is there a way using GoLive or 3rd party option to search for blog content if I simply Published to folder and upload content & pages in the site versus the personal domain approach?
    2) If I update blog content directly to the site, what other steps aside from, resubmitting the sitemap to Google are good SEO practices?
    3) How does the blog via subdomain sitemap/Google content get crawled? So far the visible links appear to correlate to 'Number of Excerpts to Show'. plus the main blog page and archive page. Will submitting the sitemap in a particular level of the blog folders affect the crawling to maximize content discovery?
    4) Does having content in a frame from the subdomain from a .Mac account affect SEO & possibly get into Duplication of Content issues?
    5) Probably more questions to follow depending on logical direction and tweaks...
Any insights, input or tweak suggestions are appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Another question:
    6) Is there a method to create a sitemap of Blog entry links that you can post on a site? This and other navigation issues are a bit difficult, AFAIK.

  • Iweb '08 and Personal Domain/GoDaddy

I had a terrible time with this before and so gave up and used domain forwarding but now I wanted to try again. I researched here in the forums because I remember that there were a LOT of threads about it. I found this Step by step:
    1. Login into your Godaddy account
    2. Click on Manage Domains and click on your domain name
    3. Click on the "Total DNS" link
    4. Under Host click on the edit link for "www"
    5. For "Alias Name" use: www
    6. For 'Points to Host Name" use: web.mac.com
    7. Click "Ok"
    8. Should update within 24 hours
    9. Mine was updated overnight
But trying to follow it still gave me error messages at godaddy. I finally called them and realized what the problem was for me. After you do step 3 and are presented with the Total DNS panel, the first window says A(Host)Host and that is NOT what you want.
The second window says CNAMES(Aliases)Host and that IS the one you want. You see WWW is the first in the list in that box. Follow the line all the way over to the right and click on the PENCIL and then follow steps 5-7.
Just adding this in case anyone was still having problems like I did.

Thank you very much for this post!

  • IWeb and personal domain

Is it possible to create a website using iWeb and upload it to personal domain (www.mydomain.com) without Mobile Me?

    Yes, you can.
Sign up at a webhost, with or without a domainname, and publish.
Before you do, you can practice on your own computer :
    http://www.wyodor.net/Tutorials/iWebDemo/sFTP.html
And you don't upload to a personal domain. You upload to a server.
And browse this forum. It has been discussed several times a day every day since June last year.

  • Multiple sites and personal domain

    Hi everyone!
I'm having a problem with iWeb 08. Here's the details:
Using iWebsite and iWeb '08 I've created 2 websites, one for personal use and one for my business.
Now I'm interested in buying a personal domain for my business website.
How can I do to set the personal domain only to my business site, leaving the personal one unchanged?
    Cheers,
    Samuele

An easy way to manage multiple sites is either iWebSites or MultiSite.
I use iWebSites to manage multiple sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your original Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want. Works for me.

  • How to publish to .Mac instead of personal domain

    Hello All,
I'm making a website for a course I am on, and the first idea was to post the site onto the domain of another guy in course. So I followed the Mac instructions and now every time I want to publish it goes to the outside website instead of my .Mac account. How do I change things so that the site publishes to my .Mac account instead of the external one? Thanks in advance.
    Cheers,
    Walt

    Lori,
I tried that, but it still loads to AP278.com instead of my .Mac. I'm trying to put my http://web.mac.com/username account, I'll see if that works. In the meantime, any other suggestions?

  • From .Mac Trial to Personal Domain.

    Guys,
I started publishing my website to a .Mac Trial Account while I was preparing my own domain. No that I bought my own address, I want to move my site to another host, how can I do it?
    Thanks.
    JP

Is that host your other (not dotMac) domain?
If so, publish to a folder and upload that folder to the server.
