Mac intel virus ?!

Hi,
Desktop all fuc*ed up, I had to re-organize it 5 times now, the icons are weird like the system doesn't recognize the files...
Safari and Firefox don't work anymore.
Everytime I launch Safari it gets me a message, it asks me to enter my session password...? Whatever I do the application quit and a message error appears (re-launch or quit)... ***?
And Firefox is slow as ****. Very very very very slow!
And without any reasons all other apps now quit, I don't understand it.
Is it a virus? Is it just possible?
Everything happened under OS X 10.4.9, I have a Windows installed but I did not used it since 2 months now...
Can anyone here help me understand it?
Thanks in advance!
Bapt.

back up your files to your iPod or external hdd, then insert Mac OS X install disc one. reboot your computer holding down the C key. select your language of choice then in the menu bar at the top select... utitlities i think... its the second last one, then go to disk utility. select your hdd then click erase. then reinstall os x and put all your files back on. then upgrade to 10.4.10 and you should be okay.

  • New Macs and Viruses

I have been looking at new Macs. My question is this: Are the new Macs as safe as the old macs where viruses are concerned. I think this is what I am talking about.
Intel Core 2 Duo. I don't know what I have on my ibook G4.
I don't know if I can afford a Mac again. My G4 cost about 1200.00 and now it would be 2000.00 and it doesn't come with Iworks. This is really getting bad.
I have even considered getting a PC because of the price.
Could I get a portable Hard Drive and boot up to it. I have looked at them, but don't know which ones would work for me.
I am having a problem with the computer freezing. I have been working with someone on the board, and I thought the problem was fixed, but all of a sudden, it is happening again. I really don't know which way to go.
I also like haveing the OS 9 on the computer because I have some old software that only works on the OS9.

    Barb:
Your questions are not well pointed, but I will venture to respond.
There is no virus in the wild that would infect Mac OS X. It is the OS, not the computer that makes the difference. Intel Macs running Windows are as vulnerable to viruses and malware as any Windows machine.
If you need to run OS 9, you are best off with your iBook or another PowerPC computer as you cannot run OS 9 or Classic on an Intel Mac.
Yes, you can boot your computer from an external firewire HDD. It must be firewire to be able to boot from it as you cannot boot a PowerPC Mac from a USB device. You can install a newer and larger capacity HDD in your computer. You can do it yourself or have someone do it for you. There are services that would do it for you. It would cost about $75 labor plus the cost of the drive and shipping.
The freezing can be caused by different things. If you describe exactly what happens more exactly we may be able to offer suggestions.
    Good luck.

  • IPhone no longer can sync with iTunes on Mac Intel Mini

I have an original iPhone (not 3G). It was working fine until today. Today when I booted my mac mini, Software update said that there was an iTunes update. I downloaded and installed version 8.2 of iTunes. When I connected my iPhone to my mac mini (Intel running 10.4.11), which is what I use to sync my iPhone, iTunes didn't see it. It was as if the iPhone wasn't connected to the mac.
I thought maybe it was the cable. So, I switched cables. It still didn't sync (or even see the iPhone).
I have been charging my iPhone using a wall adapter, so I tried both cables with the wall adapter. The iPhone charged just fine using both cables.
I used the cables and tried to sync my iPod Classic (120GB) with iTunes. I can sync my iPod Classic with iTunes just fine with either cable.
I have an 17" Powerbook G4 running 10.5.7 and I thought I'd try to see if it could see the iPhone. The Powerbook is running iTunes 8.1.1, I haven't upgraded it yet. I was able to see the iPhone and I could try to sync, but the iPhone isn't sync'ed with that iTunes library so the sync doesn't do anything, but at least the Powerbook sees the iPhone and connects with it (and iTunes sees the iPhone as well).
I'm upgrading to iTunes 8.2 to see if the Powerbook can still see the iPhone (just seeing if it was the iTunes upgrade that broke the iPhone sync). Well, the upgrade on the powerbook didn't seem to hurt its ability to see the iPhone.
I'm back at square one. My mac Intel mini running 10.4.11 can't see my iPhone and nothing I do seems to help it see the iPhone, but I can sync my ipod classic using the same cable.
I'm now wondering if there is something wrong with the iPhone. Has anyone else seen this problem?

Sometimes a glitch can happen with an itunes upgrade that can cause itunes to no longer recognize your iphone. If you have already tried to restart your computer and tried different usb ports, I would try this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224?viewlocale=en_US
    Hope it helps
Your only removing the outer software so it shouldn't affect your itunes libraries or files.

FireFox can't open lots of files it isn't suposed to. DMG is opened by the Mac osx as a virtual volume file you just drag the FireFox icon to where you want it installed. Check your desktop for a FireFox volume... like a drive. Double click the DMG file if it is not there. This is how Mac works it has nothing to do with FireFox, many apps install this way!

  • Print job not working on Mac-Intel.

We're having trouble getting a text field to print on the
Mac-Intel machines. It prints fine from Windows machines and
Mac-PowerPC. Any ideas? We just get a black box printed out on
Mac-Intel but things work fine on the PCs.

Jao, I tried it but no luck. As John recommended, I also uninstalled Lightroom, deleted the preference file as well as the print templates per your suggestion and reinstalled the latest Lightroom 1.3.1. Still no luck with using the left panel in the Library module.
One thing I just noticed was that if I open a very small catalog of ~200 images, everything appears to work fine. It looks like a problem with working with my 12,000 image catalog which always worked well before I upgraded my iMac to OS X Leopard. By the way, I've got the preferences setup to always check the integrity of the catalog at the start of every session. Everything is supposedly good.
Anyhow, thoughts and recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I hate the thought of reimporting all my images and losing all my metadata in the process. Thanks.

  • I-Mac Intel Coreduo VS Powermac G5 dualcore

Please don't get annoyed with my posts but I'm fairly new to Mac platform and I need one computer soon (since my Powerbook is not going to be fast enough).
Initially I was looking at Powermac 2.0 dualcore but since it's a little difficult to carry around (and I travel alot), I was interested in knowing what you guys have to say about the i-Mac Intel coreduo? For Logic, what is the performance difference between Powermac 2.0 and Intel i-Mac?

I saw those posts you were refering to. To me it seems like the Intel i-Mac is as fast as a G5 2.0 dualcore and is 5-6 times faster than a Powerbook 1.67. Am I right? Any conclusions?

On the Oracle Certification Matrix (http://www.oracle.com/technology/support/metalink/index.html)
    Product "Database/Server"
    Database Product " Ent. Edition"
    Platform "Apple Mac Intel"
    you get:
Certify - Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition Version 11gR1 On Apple MAC Intel
Operating System: Apple MAC Intel Version -
Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition Version 11gR1
    N/A Version N/A
    Status: Projected
    Product Version Note:
    None available for this product.
    Certification Note:
    STBA
    What does it mean "STBA"?
Most other platforms (AIX, Solaris, Linux, HP/UX) have
    "Status: Projected" also,
but they have as "Certification Note" a 4th Quarter 2007 acronym:
    Q4CY2007
    Oscar

It's now mid-2010 and we are still waiting ...
We use Pearson PowerSchool in our school district and just got this notice from them:
We’ve been anticipating an update from Oracle, which would allow us to deploy Oracle 11g on the Mac. The Windows version from Oracle has been available for nearly 2 years; however, there is still no published delivery date from Oracle for a Mac version.
Complicating matters, the current version of Oracle for the Mac is not compatible with Mac OS X 10.6.x Snow Leopard, which has been shipping since August 2009. New customers, and existing customers who want to upgrade their hardware, would find new Apple servers are incompatible with the current Oracle database. Oracle has not provided a date by which the current version of the Oracle Mac Database (10gR2) will be certified on Mac OS X 10.6.
Oracle’s diminishing commitment to the Apple platform has left Pearson with limited options for customers using Mac servers. We do not have a commitment from Oracle for future versions of the database supporting the Mac, and current versions of the Oracle database are incompatible with new hardware running Mac OS X 10.6.
Therefore, all Mac customers should make plans to replace their Mac database servers with a Windows-based database server (physical or virtual). Pearson will discontinue support for the Mac database server effective December 31, 2010.*
Should Oracle issue a version of 11g with Mac compatibility, we will evaluate support options for this platform again.
This is extremely bad news for us as we are a Macintosh district and don't have the resources to support Windows servers. Why is Oracle not supporting Mac OS X? Is there anyone we can complain to or is it just a hopeless cause?

What does it means exactly "2H CY2008"?
Other platforms show acronims like "Q4CY2007", which is Quarter 4 Year 2007, I suppose.

  • Building InDesign CS4 plug-ins once for both MAC PPC and MAC Intel

    Hi All,
I would like to know if there is a possibility to build the indesign plugins once for both PPC and Intel on MAC. Right now I'm forced to build my plugins twice: on the PPC machine and on the Intel Machine.
I tried to build the SDK example Basic Persist Interface on my MAC Intel machine and then i placed it on my MAC PPC and it failed to load.
is there any configuration I need to specify so the XCode linker will link for both machines?
    I'm using:
    InDesign CS4
    Leopard 10.5.8
    XCode 3.0
    Architectures: i386

  • Filevault bug with Mac Intel & bootcamp

    Hello,
I try to use filevault on my Mac Intel with bootcamp, during the process I get an alert: I don't have enough space to us it, the message said I would require 4064,0 Gb... my hardrive's size is 250 Gb ! (I have the screenshot). So I try the same process on MacBook with the same personal document folder it works. I reinstall my MacBook with a fresh install of MacOS X and then setup bootcamp. afterward I try fileVault and it didn't works...
Does somone know this bug ? is there a fix ?
    Thanks
    HDR

I have the same problem on a MBP, the same error message, but I do not have bootcamp installed on my mac… so it may not have anything to do with that app you are using.

  • Flash player 9 beta does not install on opera 9 mac (intel)

    Hi All,
I installed the latest opera 9 on my new intel mac. Then I
tried to install the flash player 9 beta for intel mac. the player
was correctly installed on all the browers (firefox, sarafi) except
opera. There was no error messages shown during installation, but
when I tried to view flash content in opera, there is just simply
nothing showing (getting a blank area instead). Any idea what the
    problem is?
    Cheers,

    just a follow up.
Does anyone have any idea why the beta flash player 9 can not
be installed into opera on mac intel?
Or there is something wrong with my installation?

  • Which racing wheel can i use on I-Mac Intell

which RacingWheel can I use on my I-Mac Intel OSX 10.9.2

Unfortunately there is none that I can find that would work.  The last time Grand Theft Auto for instance was written for Mac OS X was in 2004 before the shift to Intel CPU.  You'd likely find better support in one of the Windows virtualization solutions and their forums:

  • Has anyone used Malwarebytes or anything similar to protect Mac from virus etc

Has anyone used Malwarebytes or something similar to scan Mac for virus and other security and effiency problems?

I should have been more specific, I wasn't given a Mac to keep, I was given a Mac to clean up. I have almost 20 years experience working with personal computers and I've worked on every major OS that's been released during that time (OS/2, every version of Windows since 3.1, Linux, Mac OS, Unix). I no longer work in a shop specifically fixing computers but my family still gives me their computers to look at whenever they have issues. My cousin just gave me her laptop since she was unable to fill out any web forms that would try to verify her e-mail address, plus she kept getting pop ups to run some MacKeeper software. Had this been a computer I received second hand I would have re-installed the OS regardless of the state it was on, but since she needs the files on her computer for school I figured it'd be much easier to run a Mac OS equivalent of Malwarebytes than to backup everything and re-install the OS.
Unfortunately when you search the internet for a Malwarebytes alternative for Mac OS, the majority of the time you just get posts from people saying "Macs are super secure, don't worry about it you won't get infected", which is a completely useless response for someone whose computer is infected. The rest of the posts responding to people who ARE infected are much like your response "Just re-install the OS" but that doesn't address the underlying issue of what's infecting the computer for those people who can't afford to lose everything. I was eventually able to Google the symptoms of this issue and determine that it was a trojan known as DownLite or VSearch. Once I found where it was located I opened up a terminal, ran sudo su to elevate myself to root, deleted the VSearch folder and files from the terminal, ran ps ax | grep VSearch to find the running application and did a kill -9 [pid] to terminate the app (rather than rebooting.)
Once that was all done I was able to use Chrome and Safari without all of the popups and hijacks. It took all of 5 minutes once I knew what the underlying issue was but I was really hoping to find a program like Malwarebytes so I could just let it scan the computer and tell me "These applications are malicious..." especially since my cousin installed a lot of stuff I would consider junk on her laptop and I didn't want to delete things that are just harmless junk (since she might use them.) Since I ended up having to do this all manually I'm just hoping there's nothing else lingering on the computer that didn't have visible symptoms.
