Mac interface differs from Windows interface

Hi!
For some reason Adobe (like Microsoft for instance) appearently think that when working on a Mac, users are better off with toolbars floating all over the place. In the Windows version on the other hand, Photoshop Elements and its toolbars are shown in one single wondow. Is there any way I can make it look like this on my Mac? Cause I really hate the floating toolbars!
Hope you can help me

  • How's Mac OS differe from Windows in regard to accounts?

I work with Windows all the time. I was wondering if Mac OS allows different account for each user to log in locally, able to join a domain, and capable of making system image of its OS for restoration if needed. Does Mac OS has something similar to Windows group policy where the admin can control almost anything in that computer?

    Yes.

    Yes

Users can make backups of their own user account folder (their 'Home' folder in Mac OS X). The system resources are backed up by the Admin user.

The Admin user - or the root user which Admin also has access to - can control everything, yes.

Ask on a Windows forum since that's what you're having a problem with.

  • Cannot access Mac OS Partition from windows 8 running in boot camp

So I installed Windows 8.1 Pro through Boot Camp but I can't access the Mac OS partition from windows even though boot camp partition shows up while I'm on Mac OS. I have installed all the drivers from apple but still it didn't work. Then I downloaded Paragon HFS+ which was free for windows 8 and 8.1 thinking that this would solve my problem. The instructions told me to change the drive letter for mac partition from disk management by right clicking the drive pressing "change drive letter and path" button. But the "change drive letter and path" key in grey color and I can't press it. Can somebody please help?

  • Switch back to Mac OS X from Windows 7

I got a MacBook Core Duo 2.0 13" (White). This was originally my cousin's and she gave it to her parents but her parents installed Windows 7 and they cannot get it switched back to Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.8).
I have been searching over the internet on how to install the Snow Leopard OS back as I have the disk installer. But the problem is, the machine ejects the disk. I tied to do internet recovery but only Windows appear so that means Mac is really gone in this machine, also tried to boot it on disk reboot (start then hold the letter C) to no avail.
Would you happen to know how I can switch back the OS to Mac from windows 7 without me going to the Apple Store?
I am not tech savvy. I would need dummy-like instructions.
    Thank you so much!!

One way would be to boot into internet recovery, and then see if you can format the disk (back to MacOS formats) and then install MacOS again.  After that, update to the latest you can, and you're all set.
(Basically, the same advice as Allan's, but you could try internet recovery if you wanted to ensure you were using the latest OS and installer bits that you could...)

  • IChat interface differs from exact same version on other Mac

    Hey,
Me and my friends both have macbooks with the same version of ichat. The problem is, is that the status symbols (such as the colored circles) on my macbook are more bland solid colors while his are gradient based. Not a problem, but I would like it to look a little more smooth. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

  • WLC 5508 , AP client dhcp address different from WLAN interface VLAN subnet?

Hope the title makes sense, here's my situation: I have multiple businesses on 1 WLC 5508, there's a LAG to my core switch with seperate interfaces for each, broken up by vlans.
My question is: if i have a WLAN setup to use interface "Company A" which is vlan 10 with an ip of 10.0.1.5 which then points to 10.0.1.10 for dhcp.
Can the WLAN client connecting to the Company A WLAN use an IP in a different IP range?(192.168.1.10?) can the wlc route? from the perspective of the DHCP server where doers the request come from? (10.0.1.5?)
Can the DHCP server 10.0.10.10 on vlan 10 respond back with and ip on a different subnet to assign to the client to use and still be fully fonctioning? would the default gateway for the client need to be 10.0.1.5?  So the clients ip would be 192.168.1.10 /24 with a gateway of 10.0.1.5 (ip adress fo vlan10 interface on WLC) And if multiple clients on the same subnet wanted to talk to each other woudl the WLC know how to route them to each other without passing through the default gateway?
Sorry if this is confusing I'm having a bit of a hard time explaining it in works, i can try and draw somethign up if it makes more sense.
    thanks
    Eric

I think if you want these clients to stick to a WLAN configured on a VLAN that has a different IP addressing you could configure your VLAN with the normal IP addressing then add on the SVI the 2nd IP_Class_default_gateway.
    E.G.
    Vlan 10
    interface vlan 10
    ip address 10.0.10.1 255.255.255.0
    ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0 secondary
Clients that receive IP address from 192.168.1.0/24 network will be able to reach 192.168.1.1 and all traffic will pass right.

  • Printing to a Mac shared printer from windows 8

How can I print to a Mac shared printer (OS: 10.8.2) from my Windows 8 PC which is using the same Apple network?
    Matthias

I have tried using Bonjour on for Windows on Win8 however while it finds the printer and can add it no problem whenever a job is sent to the printer a blank page is printed. The Win8 machine can print to the printer fine if directly connected and the same driver is used when printing via Bonjour so one can only assume it's a "communications" issue between the Win8 machine and my Mac Pro which is sharing the printer.

  • Boot Camp, How to switch back to Mac OS X from Windows?

I successfully installed boot camp and Vista on my imac so I could watch netflix on my computer (other than that I have no use or patience for Vista or Windows). Now, I am in Windows Vista and am unable to switch back to Mac OS X. I have looked everywhere, including the Windows Help and Support and I can't see how to close Windows and get back to the good side.

Open the Control Panel, click on Startup Disk, and change the setting; this item will only appear if the Boot Camp drivers are installed. Alternatively, restart the computer with the X or Option keys held down; in the second case, select the Mac OS X system, push the button with the straight arrow, and change the startup disk from System Preferences afterwards.

  • Connecting to MAC (Snow Leopard) from Windows 7 PC

Been trying to get the iMac to connect with a windows 7 pc. Have successfully connected to the PC from the iMac using the Go/Connect to server method. From the windows 7 PC perspective, the iMac shows up in network neighborhood, but when I double click on the iMac get an error message - "Windows cannot access ..." then the name of the iMac. This is associated with error code 0x80070035.
From the windows 7 PC, I can successfully ping the iMac by name and IP address. The iMac and PC are using the same workgroup name as well. I'm thinking the problem is associated with how I configured sharing on the iMac --- but I can't seem to figure out the problem. This is how the iMac sharing is configured:
    - have a public folder set as the shared folder, with everyone identified as having read and write privileges
    - under sharing/options,"share files and folders using SMB (Windows) is selected
    - below that, have the "on" button checked for the accounts I have on the iMac.
Thinking that there is something in the sharing configuration that is the problem. Would appreciate any help. Thanks.

I don't know a whole lot about this topic, but I do know that, in Vista, Microsoft apparently disabled some important feature required for connecting to a Mac for file sharing, which caused some problems for my wife. We finally solved the problem for her by doing the following:
Go to the Start menu and go to All Programs -> Accessories -> Run
    Type "Regedit.exe" and press return
    Go to HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
Select Lsa, then choose Edit -> New -> Key
Type "DWORD" (without quotes) as the name in the list
Double-click the text "(Default)" in the right-hand pane
Enter "1" (without quotes) as the value and press OK
Quit Regedit and restart the machine
Log in to the remote Mac using "ip_address\username" as the user name
I'm not sure if this is still relevant on Windows 7, and I recall there was a much easier solution if you had one of the higher-end versions of Vista... but my wife only had Home Premium, which meant she didn't have the tool needed to make this fix easy. Stupid Microsoft...

  • Officejet A909a prints from mac but when from windows "out of paper" message appears.

I have an older 8500 which has been very loyal to me and I have looking after it well, which is now pushing 4000 pages.  However i went to print a file from my Windows 7 PC yesterday which is connected via usb, and it wouldnt print saying it was out of paper (which it wasn't) about half full . So i tried again no luck. UN-installed then reinstalled the printer still noting. went to my work laptop (windows 7) which is connected wirelessly through the network, same again "no paper" message appears. i thought this is strange turned it off back on still nothing even after disconnecting it from the mains for a few minutes, nothing the same message still appears.
However, my son has a mac book pro and he just printed his coursework off the printer effortlessly through my network. so i know the printer is fine especially as i have now printed self test pages off through the printer itself.
I have no idea what to do now, as i have tried uninstalling then installing, printing via usb and network. and when i say "out of paper" i mean the printer receives the print command from my computer as it tries to feed paper a few times but cant pick it up also i have tried with various paper levels in the printer (full, half, about 20 pages, 1 single page)
    Please help.

    Hello @Dangerous97,
I understand that when printing from your 2 Windows 7 computers you receive an 'out of paper' message after your HP Officejet Pro 8500 All-in-One Printer struggles and fails to pick up paper. However, you are able to print from a Mac computer. This is very unusual behaviour!  I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue. Also, thank you for including that you are able to print self-test pages from the printer with no issues as well.
Generally, 'out of paper' messages are caused by a hardware issue with the printer itself. Because you are able to print standalone to your printer and from a Mac, there may be an issue with the documents that you're trying to print from your Windows 7 computer or a programming issue with your printer.
With that being said, to start I would like you to click here to download and install the latest programming Firmware Update on your printer. Once the website opens select the Download button on the top left. Once the download is complete, please follow any onscreen instructions to send the update to your printer.
Once the Firmware has been successfully updated, please test printing again.
Please respond to this post with the result of the Firmware Update. Good luck!

  • Menu Mnemonic behaviour different from Windows Applications!!!

Hi, In My Swing application I have few menu's on Menubar. For Example File(Mnemonic 'f'),Edit(Mnemonic 'e') and View(Mnemonic 'v'). If I pressed Alt+f then File menu opens, but now if I press 'e' ( which is not associated with any of menuitems of "File" menu) then the Edit menu opens. If you try similar thing in any windows application, there Edit menu will only open when you press Alt along with 'e' and nothing happens if you just press 'e' when File menu is open.
In JBuilder( which is also written in Swing), although the menu mnemonics works just like Windows. Can somebody tell me how to achieve this Windows like behaviour in Swing application, so that on pressing 'e' without Alt, nothing happens and only on pressing Alt+'e' the Edit menu opens?
    Thanks,
    Sandeep

Betty raised this on the Lightroom-news comments section where I replied:
"The mistake was that I used the Apple screen key combo Command+Shift+4 to capture the menu. This is what caused the menu changed from saying 'remove Photos from catalog to Remove and trash photos. Obvious when you think about it! If you reread that section again, it should make more sense."
I revised the text in this section so that it now reads:
"if you hit the delete key you will be faced with a slightly changed dialog that offers (as before) the option to simply remove the current photo(s) from the catalog, or the option to delete completely from the disk. Note here that selecting Delete from Disk will remove the photos from the catalog and then send them to the system trash/recycle bin. So although the warning message says that this process cannot be undone, it is not in fact a complete deletion. The photos you delete can still be accessed via the trash/recycle bin. It will only be when you choose to empty the trash/recycle bin that the images will truly be deleted forever.
If you are aware of this difference and wish to avoid having to go through the above dialog each time you hit delete to remove photos from the catalog, you can instead now use the Photo > Remove Photos from Catalog command, or the Option + Delete (Mac), Alt + Delete (PC) shortcut. This allows you to remove photos from the catalog without showing the Delete photos dialog. Or use the Command+Option+Shift + Delete (Mac), Control+Alt+Shift + Delete (PC) shortcut to remove photos from the catalog and send them directly to the trash. Again, bypassing the Delete dialog."

  • HT1533 How can I switch back to Mac OS X from Windows 7 Bootcamp?

I'm having problem switching back to Mac OS on my Macbook Air.  It's currently running Windows 7 bootcamp without a Mac OS installed with it.  I tried booting up on Mac OSX installer disc (Snow Leopard) on the external CDROM drive but it boots to Windows instead.  I tried the Boot Camp Control Panel on Windows and Restart to Mac OS X but it could not find an OS X intalled and I tried changing the startup disc to the installation disc on the CDROM and restarted but still goes to Windows.
    Please HELP!
    Thank you.

The MBA did not ship with an OS on DVD because they don't have an optical drive. There are two kinds of OS disks - commercial release, which for Snow Leopard is 10.6.3 I believe, and machine specific. If your SL disk is gray it isn't going to boot your MBA because it isn't made for the MBA. If your SL disk has a cat on it look at what specific version it is. As I said, I think it is 10.6.3 and while I wasn't able to find out what specific OS version your MBA shipped with, I'm pretty sure it was a version later than 10.6.3 and if I'm right your disk isn't going to boot the computer. You'll need to either contact Apple for a valid replacement installer or find someone with a Mac who can make a valid installer on a USB drive or DVD.
