Mac Ipod Music to PC

Hello
I have an iPod Nano that is formated for a Mac.  I no longer have my Mac and am trying to transfer the music to my PC.  I tried using XPlay, but it does not seem to be reading my Nano when connected.  I have tried the suggestions from Media SOS with no lucki.  The music has transferred to the My Music folder on my PC.  Before I reformat my iPod, I want to be absolutely sure this music will be safe as it says the iPod will be wiped clean.
If it is safe in the My Music folder, how do I then transfer the music back on to my iPod once it has been reformatted?  Also, I have a new iPad with a few of the newer songs that are on my iPod due to the Cloud, but I eventually want all songs to be in the Cloud so I can access on my, PC, iPod, iPad and iPhone.  Yes, it would probably be easier to just get a new Mac laptop, but that is just not in my budget right now.
Note...I am not very techy so I will require step by step instructions.
Thanks,
Pat

If you purchased the music from the itunes, you can use the "Download previous purchases" button.  When I did that after purchasing my new computer, I got all my previous purchases returned from as long as iTunes was around.

  • Is it at all possible to move ipod music from a mac to a pc?

...without a CD burner on the mac?
    Here's the problem...
My son wants to burn a CD of some of his ipod music. We had originally intalled the ipod on a mac. However, the mac disk is full, and we haven't been able to install an external cd burner.
We have several pcs with cd burners, so I thought I could move the music over to the pc using the ipod. It did create a "shared" library, but you can't do anything with that but listen to it. I reformatted the ipod to pc format, but can't put the music back on the ipod.
I should be able to reformat the ipod back to mac, then reload the songs on there, but unless I can free up enough space to load the cd burner software, I'm kind of out of luck?

Windows can't read the HFS+ file system that a Mac uses.
If you need to use a Mac (HFS+) formatted iPod on a Windows PC, you'll need to install some 3rd party software such as XPlay 2.0 (which you can get from MediaFour Software). This will enable your Windows PC to read a Mac-formatted iPod.

  • Ipod - using Mac for music & PC for podcasts

Hi, I have an ipod 30 - love it.
I'd like to use my mac for music updates and PC for podcasts.
WHY would I want to do this?
    1. My mac is a G3 10.2.8 and it rejects the majority of video podcasts - my local mac shop says "yes, that is common."
    2. I like having my music on the MAC as it is portable - the PC is a desktop. (plus the mac looks cool in the loungeroom.)
So I formatted my ipod for PC - uploaded all my PC podcasts (successfully) and then moved to my mac to get my music (successfully).
    PROBLEM
When I go back to my PC to get Podcast updates, it asks if it can wipe all my music. i can't find the option to just update podcasts.
    Any thoughts?

I simply re visited the same process (see above)
    and it worked.
TIPS: When Windows asks to be the Music library, say NO - it will then up date your podcasts.
NOTE: when you update your music on the MAC, it will wipe your podcasts - simply return to the PC and upload podcasts.

  • Ipod music transfer from PC to Mac?

    Hello,
I recently reformatted my ipod shuffle to PC so as to use as a portable drive. On my PC I have music that I do not have on my Mac. Itunes deleted the music from mac and replaced with music from PC. when I plugged the ipod back into the Mac, it asked some weird question about which library to use (yes or no options), one answer(no?)did nothing and no longer recognized the ipod until an unplug and reconnect. the other answer(yes?)replaced the music library with the macintosh's original playlist.
So, is it possible to transfer music from a PC to mac? Is there some sort of copyright issue I'm missing here? If I replace the ipod music from the PC itunes library again, how can I transfer that music to the Mac?

I found this which I think answers the question:
Can I take a friend's iPod shuffle and browse or play its content on my machine (like I can with other iPods)?
No, there is no manual mode that allows you to view or play the content from a friend's iPod shuffle on your computer. This also means that you cannot load music from multiple computers or iTunes libraries onto iPod shuffle like you can with other iPods.
Can I transfer data to iPod shuffle from multiple computers when in disk mode?
Yes. If you put iPod shuffle in disk mode, you can transfer data from multiple computers from the Finder (Mac) or Explorer (Windows). You can only load music from one computer, using iTunes.
Can I use iPod shuffle with both a Macintosh and a Windows computer?
Yes. When you place iPod shuffle in disk mode, you can use it to transfer data between multiple computers, running either operating system.
Thanks anyway, seems like a strange thing not to be able to do.

I got a Mac and started buying music on it, and My PC has all of my whole Itunes library which is like 1000+. Well I want to put all of my music on my Mac, But everytime I plug it in and ask it to sync all music it tells me that I have to erase my Ipod and sync in with the music on my Mac... Gosh its so confusing.

you can connect the iPhone to your mac and import those iPhone photos and videos to iPhoto assuming you have iPhoto. You can create a folder and export all those photos to the Finder. Keep safe somewhere.  Also keep the iPhoto library for safe keeping. When you restore your iPhone you can sync all those photos back to the iPhone. so you will lose nothing. Just remember when you export from iPhoto select jpeg for photos and original for videos taken with the iPhone.

  • Windows Ipod to Mac Ipod?

Is there a way to convert my ipod I got when I had a Windows machine to a Mac Ipod? I want to be able to update the software and such things but can't anymore.

I am having the exact same issue! All of my music is on my Ipod which was formatted on WINDOWS. My computer crashed and I upgraded and got a Mac. Now I want to transfer the music to my Mac but don't know how. HELP! Do I have to find another Windows computer and connect to ITunes and burn all my stuff to a DVD first? Seems like a huge hassle. • How Can I Share iPod Music Over a LAN ?

I want to share music from an iPod over my LAN.
I've searched the forum, and can't find an answer there.
    Current Situation
I have all my music on a G5 and share it over an Airport network, so I can play it from any computer in the house.
I'm running out of disk space + I need to have iTunes running all the time in the background to serve the music over the network.
    Proposed Solution
I want to use an old iBook as a music server. The iBook doesn't have enough disk space to store all the music, so I want to move all the music from my G5 to an iPod - then connect the iPod to the iBook and serve the music directly from the iPod.
If I store the music on the iPod, I can play it fine on the iBook, using iTunes.
If I enable music sharing on the iBook, the iBook music library can be shared over the network - but this does not include the music in the iPod music library.
How can I share the iPod music directly over the network ?
I can't copy the music from the iPod to the iBook - there's not enough disk space.
I know I can do it by using the iPod in disk mode - and storing the music in an iTunes folder on the iPod. But I also want to use the iPod to play my music in the car - so storing the music in Disk Mode won't help.
I guess I could set up the iBook to refer to an iTunes folder on the iPod using Disk Mode - then sync the iBook with the iPod --- but that just means I'll have 2 copies of the same music on the iPod --- there must be a better way ...
    DPG5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

To the best of my knowledge, you can't. iTunes can only share music that's in the main iTunes library, not tracks from an iPod. Your best route will probably be to get an external hard drive for your iBook and put the iTunes library there.

  • Old Mac Ipod won't sync with new Macbook (help!)

Ok so this is probably something really easy but I can't for the life of me get it to work.
I got a new Macbook Pro recently and have been building up a new library with my older songs and newer ones I've acquired since the purchase. My problem is when I go to sync my Ipod to the new Mac my ipod automatically goes to the "ok to disconnect" screen without syncing anything. I pressed "sync" and "transfer purchases" and it still goes into disconnect mode, very quickly too.
Its almost as if the ipod is protecting itself and dosen't want to sync to the new Mac for that reason, but that's what I need it to do. Its a 'Mac to Mac' move so its not like I'm putting a Mac ipod into a Windows computer
What do I have to do, or how do I get to a setting that would let my ipod sync successfully on this new laptop? If anybody could help it would totally save the day.
The ipod is an iPod classic 2008-09 120gb

    Hey Ginger795
You would have to tell it to erase and sync the iPod. With a new library you will want to sync exclusively or set up “Manually manage music” on the iPod to make it work properly

  • Slow scrolling in iPod music selection window in iTunes8

    Hi,
Since the update to iTunes 8 I've noticed that scrolling/dragging the scroll bar in the iPod Music selection window has become very very slow, to the point where clicking on the scroll bar and dragging it causes a CPU load spike on my Centrino vPro dual-core Lenovo T61 (4GB RAM 32-bit Windows) and very jerky responses.
This is only happening when selecting Music/Podcasts on both iPods. The Grid view/Coverflow etc is not showing ths behaviour.
This used to be smooth and quick - anyone else seeing this?
    Tim

You are comparing apples and oranges - or further afield horses and carts.
The Portable Document Format is a rendered format. A layout engine has mapped character codes to glyph codes and the geometry of the line layout has been computed. What remains is to draw on the colour desktop display.
Apple Pages in layout mode and Microsoft Word in layout mode have to do the rendering, that is, map from character specifications to glyph shapings while composing ligatures in the line, decomposing ligatures at the end of the line and in tracked line layout, and much, much more.
It is proprietary information when Pages and Microsoft use which parts of the operating system to do what, and when they do whatever they do themselves. Nominally, there is ATSUI Apple Type Services for Unicode Imaging and there is CoreText.
Apple in its developer discussions is saying that ATSUI is slower than CoreText, by about fifty percent if memory serves. All of this again involves further parameter, namely whether the layout is by line or is by paragraph.
In the implementation of Apple TrueType 2 in 1994, the layout is by line hence the LLM Line Layout Manager. At that time, URW in Hamburg had an algorithm for paragraph level layout developed by Dr Peter Karow and Prof Hermann Zapf.
One of the reasons type developers gave for having hesitations about the composition model in Mac OS 7.5 in 1994 was that the layout was limited to the line level. Of course, so was QuarkXPress, PageMaker and every other application available at the time.
Anyway, OS X 10.4 and OS X 10.5 is still line level for speed, but if CoreText boosts rendering speed in OS X 10.6 it will also be possible to provide support for paragraph level layout (?). Alongside support for smart typographic scaling that is in the OS, but is not in Apple applications at this point.

  • Mac iPod to PC iPOd

Hi everyone, this is my first entry to this forum. I'd really appreciate help with the following:
I have a Windows PC with iTunes installed. I have just purchased a used 20Gb 3rd gen iPod, loaded with music. It is formatted for Mac. This is what I'd like to do:
    1. Transfer the music from the iPod to my PC, ideally to my iTunes Library, to join the music that is already there.
    2. Reformat my iPod to PC using iPod Updater(I know this will erase all music on it and restore factory settings)
    3. Load contents of my iTunes Library to the iPOd.
I think I know how to do 2 & 3. It's the first step I need help with! Is it Possible? Any help would be much appreciated.
    Dell 8300   Windows XP

I believe that you have to use a 3rd party software e.g. xplay

to copy the music from a Mac iPod to your iTune with your PC.
However, I am not sure that you are allowing to do so - copyright issue

  • HT1335 Connecting PC Ipod and Mac Ipod to MacBook Air.

    Hi,
I need to clarify a few points. I think I signed off too quickly! The 'how to determine your iPods hard disc format' does not read the same on my two IPODS, and the Mac one,
does not read as per "support.apple.com/kb/HT1335 states?
In the SETTINGS, 'about' for the Pc iPod, it states, Format windows, as the last item, which read as described.
However, my mac iPod reads (last there items) = Serial number, Model and finally Version? So, the serial number is not the last item, what does this mean?

    Still Terrified (cyfrommayo)

"Then when it finally did, her iPod showed up in iTunes but all the music was grayed out"
Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to "automatically update songs and playlists". . If you want to access your iPod directly, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and Playlists" in the iPod preferences. For more detail see this tutorial: Managing Your Songs Manually
"Also, her iPod switched back to play mode (meaning it no longer read "do not disconnect.)
That's normal in automatic mode, it automatically disconnects when it's finished updating. When this is changed to manual or the iPod is enabled as a removable hard drive the "Do Not Disconnect" will message will remain until you manually eject. Safely disconnect iPod
"Do we need to do something to her iPod for my mac to recognize it?"
Have a look at these articles if the iPod doesn't connect properly:
iPod appears on the Mac OS X desktop but not in iTunes
