http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2050
yet my Itouch still is not recognized...everytime I plug it it, My iTouch would beep..and itunes would start up..but It still doesnt list it under sources..Ive reinstalled countless times, Itunes, Clearing Apple Mobile files..everything..Ive redone all the options I can..this is just upsetting

Welcome to Apple Discussions
Hopefully, one of us can come up with some suggestions for you. Let me review for a second:
- you have completely removed Apple Mobile Device Services per the Knowledge base article
- you have removed iTunes
- you emptied the Trash
- and you restarted your iMac
- you have downloaded and installed iTunes 8.1.1
- you are not plugging your iPod into the keyboard USB port
Have you done anything to your iPod, like restart or reset? If not, I would try a reset before you plug it back into iTunes.
You are left with two possibilities, your iPod has a problem, probably with the docking port connector, or your Mac is having a software issue with iTunes.
Before you make an appointment with a Apple Genius for your iPod, try the following: On your iMac, open Finder, click on Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility and select your drive. Click on Repair Disk Permissions and let it run. If your problem doesn't go away, then make the appointment.

If the "it" refers to a compressed (zipped) spreadsheet that you downloaded, the ".ods" extension is used by LibreOffice and probably OpenOffice (which are free versions of MS Office) for spreadsheets, which would suggest that wherever you're getting that "Excel" file from has switched to one of those programs. I've tried opening an .ods file from LibreOffice using MS Office 2013 for Windows and it does open though with a warning that some things have been changed. I don't know if Office for Mac can normally open .ods files. But if your need is to just open .ods files, take a look at LibreOffice.

I converted from a PC to a Mac Mini.  I have my PC documents backed up on a DVD disk.  I have an external DVD drive connected to the Mac Mini.  I want to open these documents up from the DVD storage and save them to the Mac, BUT....when I put the DVD disk in the Mac is NOT reading it!

    Hi Joe,
Thanks for your quick response.  I should add....it worked before.  When I previously inserted the two DVDs into this remote drive, and I went into finder, I could click on the "remote device" line and see all my saved documents (excel, word, etc) on the DVD and open them on the Mac.  Now I cannot see them, when I try to open them on the Mac, nothing happens, nothing is displayed.  I just re-tested the remote DVD drive with a CD and, no problem, it opened up the CD via iTunes and I cold play the CD.  SO......I know the remote DVD drive (it's an LG by the way) is fine, it's something to do with some settings on my mini mac, especially where I could open it previously.  I do not remember changing any settings since then.
When I go into system preferences and click on CD/DVD it gives me options of how to open up a music CD (default is iTunes), a DVD (default is iMovie), etc.  The problem is my DVD is all miscellaneious files/documents.  I just want to be able to see them in the finder.  I also tried to open them via microsoft word, from the remote disk and again, it could not open the drive, even though some of the documents were microsoft word documents.  Again, I was able to open them previously and the DVD is not corrupted in any way.
    Any additional advice?
    Thank you!

  • My mac do not read mu cd's

Hi all, I have a macbook pro, I'm trying to install vmf usion on my mac but it does not read my cd, it lloks like an empty cd but it is not empty, I cannot see the content of the cd Could you help please

    Ah, I see, I think.
Your're trying to install Wundows under VMWare Fusion, & it's not reading the CD!?
I'm not certain, but it sounds like a setting in VMWare to do with sharing Discs/Disks, sometimes if OSX grabs the CD first, VMs can't read it.
Not on my IntelMac right now & generally don't have Internet available for it, but will try to check specifics later tonight.

  • Mac mini not reading CD's

Mac mini has stopped reading cd's, I get this message "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer."  but it will still play dvd's.  OSX10.9
    Any ideas please

First try cleaning CDs, as per > How to Clean a DVD or CD Disc ?
Then if the Superdrive will still not read CDs, it may have a dirty laser len and I would try either a > Maxell DVD-LC DVD Lens Cleaner or a > Memorex CD and DVD Lens Cleaning Kit on it.

  • My mac is not reading dvd's

    Hi there,
I have tried to watch a few non pirated DVD's in the last few days and my mac is not recogising any of them and after several attempts to load, spits them out.
Any ideas as to whats going on?

Check Finder > Preferences > General
Make sure CDs, DVDs, and iPods is selected.
Make sure the disc is free of fingerprints and dust.
And try restarting your Mac and try again.

  • Mac Mini not reading CD

I have a Mac Mini the i not reading a CD. is any i can do?

Is your Mini failing to read all CDs you try to mount, or only that one? If all CDs, then most likely your optical drive needs to be cleaned or replaced. If only that one, then there is a problem with that particular CD disk.

  • Mac Mini not reading old pc ext hard drive

Have a five year old external hard drive from a previous PC.   I connect it to my Mac Mini and the device listing shows it is there, but the letters are not black.  They are light grey and i am unable to open the drive when i click on the listing.

Sounds like it is not mounted properly, damaged or perhaps is protected by some sort of windows encryption.
Open Disk Utility and see if you select the drive in the list of drives and then mount it using the blue Mount button. If not then disconnect the drive, restart the Mac Mini and reconnect the External Drive.
Now if it is still not mounting and/or you are unable to manually mount it using Disk Utility, it is either damaged and needs repairs or unencrypting using a windows computer. Of course I could be totally wrong about the windows encryption thing, because I don't use them all that much.

  • Desktop manager for mac will not read the memory card

I have a Storm and the desktop manager does everything correctly except it will not recognize the media card for music.  It says "please insert a media card in your device."  Ive got the 8GB microSD card and it shows up in the phone memory but i cant load any music from my computer.

OK, I spent an hour and a half on the phone with RIM support this morning trying to fix this very thing with SUCCESS!!!  Here is what you need to do.  Keep in mind that this fix can only be done on a PC and NOT a Mac.  Sucks, but its reality.  Click on the link below and make sure that the PC your doing this on has the BB desktop manager installed on it.  I went to my dads house and used his PC.  After the tech and I learned that the DM has to be installed before you start the fix we were able to resolve the problem and the DM on the mac recognizes the media card.  I'm also able to see the BB1 and BB2 icons on the desktop now so I can drag and drop if I want.  I hope this helps you all.  If you need additional help with this please ask.  I may not be the most tech savy person here but I may be able to help a little.  Here you go:
NOTE: MAKE SURE THAT THE DESKTOP MANAGER IS INSTALLED ON THE PC YOUR USING FIRST.  I ONLY INSTALLED THE ENGLISH VERSION WITHOUT MEDIA SYNCH (to reduce download size and time)  AND IT WORKED GREAT.
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/documentLink.do?externalID=KB19717
Follow the directions to the tee and it should work fine.
PS:  If you have problems with your blackberry and you cant find the fix here or on CB call your carrier tech support.  If they cant resolve they are pretty quick at getting RIM on the case and resolving without you getting charged for it.  Verizon was helpful at that and when I spoke with BB tech support they were extremely helpful.  I was very impressed.
I hope this helps all of you with this problem.  Good luck out there!!!!
