Mac iTunes plays wrong songs

I know this question is posted alot, but I can't seem to find an answer. If anyone can link me to the solution I'd be very appreciative.
On my macbook pro when I open itunes and choose a song to play, the wrong song plays (select something by Yes, I get a song by Led Zepplin etc). Select the same song on my Iphone and its plays correctly. I do have Itunes match turned on.
If I go to the exact file through Finder and select it, the correct song plays.
Seems like some corruption with my Itunes library?
Any help appreciated.

Hi there pj300
You may want to try re-creating your iTuens library as an inital troubleshooting step. Take a look at the article below for more information.

  • My iPod Nano 5G plays wrong songs!!

I have. An iPod Nano 5g and recently he plays wrong song I select a song, the title is displayed, but the iPod is playing a different song. How can I fix it? The iPod has never gejailbreak, and restore in itunes (via the Internet) failed.

Are you sure you have the files tagged correctly in iTunes?  When you play this same track in iTunes is it the correct song?

  • IPhone plays wrong song, but shows correct name and artwork

Sometimes when I try to play a song on my iPhone using iTunes match, the song gets stuck at 0:00 and won't play, or the correct artwork shows with the correct meta info, but the wrong song is playing. Any ideas? I'm not trying to stream any of these song so it shouldn't be a bandwidth issue or anything like that.

I checked out page 61 about shuffling songs. I do shuffle the songs, however, my iPhone mixes up the audio and the track info.
Let's say I click on Between The Buried and Me's song Ants of the Sky, the iPhone will then show the proper information, say it's playing it, but then I hear something like Three Dog Night's One. These are files bought on iTunes and I am positive the track information and whatnot is correct in iTunes.
If the audio the iPhone is playing is longer than the song it says it's playing, the song will cut off early. The songs it chooses to play seem completely random, although a few songs are more frequently mis-played than others. This happens whether I am shuffling the songs or not. I first assumed that I had downloaded a corrupted file from iTunes, but then after multiple full restores, nothing seems to be fixing the problem.
Also, the more i play it, the more songs seem to get messed up. It's rather frustrating, I must say.

  • Everytime iTunes plays a song, Finder quits

I have a Mac Pro 5,1, 16 GB, 2T Startup Drive & three other drives for additional storage and Time Machine.
My finder & Dashboard quits and re-starts every time iTunes plays a new song.  The screen goes completely gray & blank under whatever I may have open.  It lasts only momentarily, but is quite annoying.  As part of the troubleshooting, I ran Disk Utility.  Checked permissions which were OK.  Checked verify disk & got result that the disk is corrupt & should be repaired.  When I tried to start my computer from the Recovery disk (using the Option key), it would not start (going instead to a gray patterened screen).  I tried this several times & one time it did go to the screen showing the Recovery disk and my startup disk.  But when I selected the Recovery disk, it went to the gray patterned screen again.  I then connected my Mac Pro to my MacBook Pro & booted the Mac Pro to Target Disk mode.  When I ran Disk Utility Repair Disk on the Mac Pro's startup disk, the result showed no problem with the disk.  I'm not sure where to go from here, so I can use some help.

I was able to get to the Recovery Disk & ran the disk utility to try & repair the disk.  When I did, it quit & said it couldn't repair the disk.  I was about to reformat the HD & reinstall OSX Lion, but decided to try the repair once more before I did that.  This time, it was able to repair the disk.  I then rebooted & found that the same problem still existed.  I went back to Recovery Disk & reinstalled OSX (over the existing copy).  When that was complete, I rebooted & find that the problem still exists.  One thing that repeated observation of the problem has discovered is that when the screen blanks out, the background that is there when the screen comes back is a different one than was there before the screen was blanked by the change of song in iTunes.  I'm going to put up with this for a couple more days, then will reformat & reinstall OSX.
I'd appreciate any assistance that anyone might be able to give me on this.

  • ITunes creates wrong song information

I'm using a one year old HP desktop with Windows 7.
Within the past few weeks I noticed my iPod giving the wrong song information, but the correct album artwork.  For example:  a Foo Fighters album artwork with the song information of the Beatles, but the Foo Fighters song would play.  I discovered iTunes was the root of this problem.  I uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes.  Then I went into iTunes and "played" each song, therefore getting all of them to 'reset' to the correct song information.  This seemed to work, at least for now.
The question I have is how do I prevent this from happening again?  It took almost two hours to go through the entire music library and ended up having to update roughly 1,000 songs, if I caught all of them that is.
    Thanks ahead of time!

No its not checked. Basically album art just keeps disappearing and song information is changing itself. Its really odd. I looked through my library today and about 1 in 5 album art is gone. Any ideas?

  • ITunes playing one song at a time

My iTunes only plays one song at a time. I've tried changing the format (ie repeat playlist, repeat song etc etc) but nothing seems to work. Can anyone help?

Do the songs have check marks against them? If not iTunes will only play one song at a time.
To check mark them all quickly go to edit/select all, then right click on the songs and select "check selection".

  • Why does iTunes play consecutive songs by the same artist so often?

Is there a way to stop or greatly reduce the issue in iTunes of playing consecutive songs by the same artist when playing in "shuffle" mode?  There was a slide tool in preferences that allowed you to set that to "less likely" or "more likely" but that appears to be gone from iTunes now, or at least I can't find it.  Not that it matters much, the problem was WORSE when they added that "tool" anyway.  It was less likely before they added whatever that algorithm was.  Now this happens constantly that my iPod plays 2 or 3 consecutive songs by the same artist when I am playing it in shuffle mode.  I have over 3500 songs on my iPod but it will usually play only a small percentage of those before starting to repeat also.  It seems to "stick" in a small area of the alphabet when in shuffle mode.  Meaning, it will play artists whose names begin with say L through R and ONLY those artists, then repeat a bunch of them after playing only 20-30 songs.  Everything else seems to be working fine on my iPod but this.  I suspect it's the programming in iTunes but of course, I have no way to prove that and Apple being the quasi Communist gov't type that they are, I can get no answers from them on this or most questions I have.  Maybe somebody here has encountered one of these issues and can offer some resolution?

I wish Apple would just remove the feature that supposedly addresses this issue.  It worked better when there was no setting for this.  I'm just tired of being pencil whipped by Big Brother.

  • Spotify plays wrong song

I have a strange issue with my spotify on my PC. I have like 5 tracks on my spotify account that when I play them they play a totally different song that I never heard of. They were correct for a while then all of a sudden they started to play a totally different song.  I have tried many things to resolve the issue like logging off, reinstalling spotify, deleting all the cache, ect. When I play the songs on my Ipad or android device they are correct.  They are tracks that I listened more frequently than others but I really have no clue to why it won't play the correct song. I've searched the forum some to see if someone has the same issue but I couldn't find anyone who had the exact same issue. Help would be appreciated.

Hello:  I am referring to the Spotify Desktop app. In the settings there are options to add in local music files sources. I am just trying isolate where the issue might be at with the wrong songs being played. Sometimes it is a local music file that has not linked up correctly to a track in the spotify service, when local music files are added into the Spotify App. Unselect these local music file sources and doing a logout and log back in and then checking those same Spotify music tracks that at first played the wrong song, sometimes this action fixes this issue, and allows the user to then add back local music file sources and not have the issue reappear again.

  • Spotify plays wrong songs

My desktop spotify has this really weird bug.Like 6 tracks play a  totally different song,or in some cases plays an acoustic version of the same song.So far i tried to uninstall and clean cache, but it keeps playing the wrong songs.I have no idea why and coudnt find any useful information in the forum. My phone plays the tracks right.I need help.

What songs are incorrect for you? I came to here to report the same issue. If I try to play (by using the web player) artist "The Greatest Bits", most popular song "Donkey Kong Country Theme", it starts playing Machinae Supremacy - Laser Speed Force. This has continued for a while now.

  • Itunes plays most songs, many full albums it pretends don't exist......

OK, I have never really had a problem with itunes before, nothing more than needing to update some tags when importing my library for the first time. But recently, a fresh reformat has left me wondering *** is going on.
I imported my library, error free from my storage HDD, and was listening to music as usual when I realized lots of full albums I knew I had, were missing from my ITunes window. I thought that was strange, so I went through, manually dragged the folders to the window, and it popped up with the dialog, saying it was adding those songs to the library. And yet, it didn't. The files are all mpeg-3. Every single song I have is, and its a crapshoot which ones will play and show up, and which won't... And I know all the songs were tagged properly, due to spending hours tagging everything in my collection properly.
So just to make sure they weren't listed under something else, I clicked a song from the folder itself to play. Nothing. A slight stutter as if ITunes was going to play the song, then nothing. I have since noticed a huge amount of albums missing, no random songs, full albums. And they will not play in ITunes.
Oh, they play in everything else, I have tried. Without any problem whatsoever. I have reinstalled itunes multiple times, browsed these forums to no avail, I am on my last nerve here, I use itunes because I keep my ipod updated with it, and I love the interface for handling large amounts of music. But I am ready to search elsewhere if 35% of my collection is unavailable to me.
    Please help, I am desperate.

What version ID3 tags? I've had best luck with v2.3 tags and iTunes. Othere versions mess with the artwork, it seems.
One other thing, check your Vista permissions on your HDD files to make sure you have FULL control, not just read/write.

  • Why won't itunes play certain songs on macbook

I bought a song on iTunes recently. It played a few times, but yesterday when I tried to play it the song wouldn't play. I checked it again today and it still won't play. When I sync my ipod it won't show up either. Please help, i'm not good with computers and I have no clue what to do!

I will try that on my Macbook Pro when I get home, if I can figure out how to do it (some more detailed instructions would help. . .).  The problem I'm having is songs I ripped from CDs into my iTunes library.  The songs and CDs are all available for purchase on iTunes, so I'm not talking about some obscure music. iTunes recognizes them.  Some of the songs from a given CD play; others do not.  In two cases, entire albums won't play.  were originally ripped from CDs into my iTunes library on an HP computer running Windows 7 (my Macbook doesn't have a CD drive).  All of the songs appear and play fine there.  However, the "grayed out" iCloud icon problem exists (and I can't play those songs) on my Macbook, my iPhone 5S or on my PC at work - which leads me to believe it's an iCloud or iTunes problem. . .

  • Why won't iTunes play some songs from the cloud

I am traveling with my MacBook Pro and opened my iTunes library.  I have iTunes Match also.  Some of my albums have the cloud with the down-pointing arrow...but they won't play and when you click on it, nothing happens.  What am I missing?

  • ITunes plays 1 song at a time?

I know this is a dumb question but how can I get iTunes to play songs continuously and not just 1 at a time? I have to click on each song to play it rather than the songs playing continuously by themselves? help!

Thank you so much for asking these questions. Your timing was perfect; I was looking all over the place for an answer the same problem (playing one song at a time), plus I was wondering what the checkmarks were for!

  • Opening Spotify URL PLays wrong song

Hi,  i have a problem with sharing spotify Track URLs. Always when a song lives in an Album with 2 CDs it plays the wrong song when i open a spotify URL. This url ( spotify:track:1noADETgR8OFyvszD3sI0n ) should be Bonnie Tylor - It´s a Heartache.but it plays Bonnie Tylor - Lost in France. I have tried with 2 different computers and 2 different accounts, booth windows. It always does the same thing.  Can someone test and doublecheck ?  Thanks for helping me out. Kind Regards, Christoph

I have the same issue. Also, when playing songs from "Popular" it plays the equivalent track number on the first album.
This seems to occur on the first album I play when starting Spotify. Going to another album resolves the issue and going back it's working as intended again.
Are you storing info from last played artist/album on shutdown and restoring it upon startup? Somehow the index on track-collections of last played artist seems to be +1 on startup.
